Devil's Backbone, like a good story, doesn't try too hard--and that's exactly why it works…read more We wandered in for an early dinner, the kind of stop you tell yourself will be quick and sensible. But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage. All in all, Devil's Backbone isn't just a place to eat and drink. It's a place where a simple plan quietly turns into a better evening than you expected.

During the summer, there are BBQ areas and lots of out door seating. A large outside stage has bands and entertainment. There is a campground and RV area with shared shower houses. The camping area is year round. The gift shop has outdoor colors (forest green, browns) tops and sweatshirts. The long sleeved t-shirts are $29. The short sleeved tye died shirts were my favorite. The restaurant has the "resident" stuffed bear. At the entrance. We were expecting a 15 min wait but were seated earlier. The menu has a beer and beverage menu. The dining menu has burgers, fries and vegetarian items. We enjoyed hot chocolate. Our friends had sandwiches and fries. I enjoyed the vegan chili. It was delicious. Spiral noodles didn't work in the Mac and cheese. The place wasn't crowded. I bet that the grounds would be crowded with guests during the summer.

I got off work late and decided I was gonna buy dinner instead of having to make it. I ordered fajitas from this restaurant, and I was about to place my order online and it told me my total was $17.89. Literally about to press the button to process my order, but decided I would just call them and pay for it when I went in there. When I arrived they instead asked me to pay them $23.89. I said that is literally five dollars more than what it said on your website and what it told me I was going to pay on your website where I just almost placed my order. They laughed it off and said we haven't changed the menu yet. The bottom line is that is false advertisement, and all these restaurants that continue to do this type of thing can be found for fraud because of it. If you tell me one price online and charge me a different price when I come in to your restaurant, that is clear false advertisement. It's not only false advertisement, but even extra than that when it was about to allow me to place my order online for a total of $5 less. Sick of this type of terribly poor business practice. Second time this has happened ordering from them and they literally had no accountability and ruined my dinner when I brought it up this time. I sit here at 9pm after leaving their restaurant 10 minutes ago, hungry, disappointed and sick of unaccountable folks running things acting like it's ok. I've eaten there about four times now and only because it is one of the only options out here when you live 45 minutes from all other parts of civilization with restaurants. Well never again after tonight. The food is mediocre. Just meh. And another time that I ordered from there, I ordered nacho supreme and told them I didn't not want the chicken on it, I just wanted just beef on it and they instead gave me just a regular beef nachos with just cheese and beef. Not what I ordered at all. I still paid for that mistake they made too. But now I just feel like if they don't care I don't care. You get what you give, and you will get the same level of care from me and any and all restaurants who continue to participate in these types of bait and switch illegal business practices without giving a single care, will get a review like this and will be reported to the FTC for false advertisement. You may think that doing this doesn't matter, but I know it does and everybody is about to learn how much it does matter after the ftc contacts them. And yes, over 50% of restaurants post 2020, participate in this immoral bait and switch business practice, and I for one am going to make it part of my business to put and end to it, by reporting every single business that continues to do this. The level of care that is delivered to customers in the restaurant industry post 2020, is abhorrent and it needs to stop.

I thought it was good, but not amazing. For my main, I got the cast iron with seared tuna and shrimp and for my two sides, I got mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It was quite good. The portion was solid, but the blackening seasoning on the tuna was a little too salty and the shrimp wasn't too flavorful but the red chimichurri sauce helped cut the saltiness and add flavor at the same time. For dessert, my husband and I shared the cookie skillet. It was a little sweeter than I would like but still ate it all, but not sure I'd get it again.

Our waitress was great, very fast, attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, that's about all I can say. I got a fried oyster appetizer. These were good, if a little greasy. For my main, I went with a NY Strip steak with a side of mushrooms and vegetable kabob. I had asked for the steak to be rare. It was more on the side of medium well, and pushing well. I can handle that, but it was also surprisingly bland. I had to add salt and pepper just to eat it. How do you strip a steak of flavour? The mushrooms were salty, and mostly breading over cheap buttons. Chewy and bleh. The vegetable kabob was singular. Literally two mushrooms, a bit of bell pepper, and an onion, maybe six pieces. But, hey, I got my vegetable for the day, right? Also, honestly, it was not an inexpensive dinner. Even ignoring pricing, it wasn't good. Ambiance and service? Great. Food? No, thank you.
