We had a great time, our first RV adventure. They were very cordial and the Covid process was not too convoluted. We were a little concerned about actually having an RV to rent when we got there but there was no problem when we picked up. Our trip was good and the checkout process was fine however they could've spent a little bit more time explaining the ends and outs of RVing. Luckily we found lots of information on YouTube about things to expect on our adventure. We ended up returning our RV late on Saturday night as we came home early. We dropped our keys in a lockbox and never heard back from them until we finally got our refund on Tuesday or Wednesday after the return. I would've appreciated after spending nearly $2000 that I would've at least gotten a phone call or an email explaining what they charged me for. We left a $500 deposit and they refunded about 150 of it upon return. I did call on Tuesday to ask if they had received the RV and they said they were in the middle of checking it in nobody phoned me back. We had a number of issues some safety related and I would have thought that they would appreciate getting some feedback which since they didn't return my phone call didn't receive. So I will leave it here. The freezer stopped working during our trip and we lost all our frozen food. There was a check light that went on and I needed to read about how to reset it myself. We tried calling the one 800 number which is supposed to be the rescue number but after 25 minutes on hold nobody picked up. There was also a strange wire that was dangling between the gas and brake pedal and it was quite Dangerous and I would have hoped they could have fix that. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! !!!!! I am reviewing our recent horrible experience with Cruise America. We are 3 older men who have rented almost once a year with Cruise America. We recently rented from the Franklin Park Il location and had truly the worst experience ever. When we arrived for pick up appointment they made us wait outside for an hour in the sun till they dealt with a retail customer who arrived after us. It took all of 10 minutes to check us in when they finally did it. I guess they make more money from the other guy. When we finally got the RV we realized the AC is faulty and after about an hour it would freeze up and get brutally hot. I called Cruise America 4 times before anyone returned my call and was eventually told to go buy a fan and some ice after the days/hours of waiting for a return call. Ultimately I ended up sleeping outside in a lawnchair for a number of nights because of the extreme heat. It's a 100 degrees in Tennesse and this is why why rent an RV. It was a terrible experience and with a recent heart attack i was very distressed. THE UNBELIEVABLE END: When I asked what's next to reconcile the situation you told me to talk with the location we rented from, what a nightmare that was!!! We checked in first thing this morning with a cleaned unit to have the most rude and abnoxious tall balding man trying to BULLY me and basically tell me i was lying and the AC was fine, he told me he is a mechanic and doesn't do customer service, when i asked speak to someone else i was told i was not permitted to speak with anyone else and told me to F -off and that he'd send me the bill,...wow. I lost my patience as well as i was completely in shock in how we were continuing to be treated but i ultimately walked away and gave up and just left for our flight home. Absolutely the worst experience we have ever had ! Completely UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT Besides the helpful person @ the front counter, Everyone else acted like I was inconveniencing them for the day& that was just picking it up! Upon drop off, I was told there would be a $50 housekeeping fee ? I asked for what & was told basically everyone pays that (?) The Rv was returned in as clean of a condition it was received. After explain to the manager there was nothing I could see that need to be cleaned and I was gonna make sure I disclose the attitude everyone had in a review The manager lost his temper, shouted obscenities & told me to get off the Rv, I was being charged for cleaning & a few other words. I took pictures of the RV . You can decide if it needed to be cleaned I would take Uber across the United States before I rented another RV from cruise America!!!! read more

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a young lady who had my paperwork ready and went over it in detail. You can tell she wanted to make all fees clear. That said, there were no hidden fees when I made my reservation so it was her more clarifying the rental agreement over. After I signed, I was directed outside to meet a gentleman who walked me through the large size RV. Watch the online videos first, so it all clicks and makes better sense when he is walking you through it. I think I was in and out in 40ish minutes. About the time for the kids to go to McDonald's across the street. By the way, the lady inside was so nice as to let my kids eat while I did the walk through. Just returned a standard size RV from the this location. Very happy with the vehicle and service. Pickup was pretty fast and efficient. The woman who runs the desk is very on top of everything. The RV we rented was less than a year old, everything was clean and operational. Check in process was smooth as well. I had to buy engine oil while on the road and there were no issues with reimbursement. I would rent from here again. read more

WORST RV CAMPING EXPERIENCE EVER!!! No Toilet, Air Conditioning, Leaking Shower and more... We have rented RV's annually for 8 years running and usually go with Cruise America. This time...was a disaster. It was Memorial Day weekend during the Pandemic of 2020. Camping facilities state-wide were restricted to "self contained units only" and the campground bathrooms were locked up tight...what could go wrong?!? We drove 6-hrs in an RV to Northern Wisconsin only to find that the toilet was inoperable, shower leaked, air conditioner didn't work, floor warped from toilet/shower and the shower door wouldn't stop falling off the track. Worst part was that Cruise America didn't do anything to help us unless we were willing to drive back 6-hrs to Franklin Park and swap out units. Luckily, we were able to convince the owner of the Campground to spend hours of his holiday time rebuilding the toilet platform to temporarily fix the unit...at our expense. When we returned the unit, the owner of the Cruise America franchise didn't want to hear about it and refused to offer us any type of courtesy credit unless we signed a release which prevented us from talking to Cruise America's corporate office about our experience. Needless to say...it was a horrible experience the likes of which we've never had before and we still haven't heard ANYTHING back from Customer Relations in over 2 weeks time!!! I would think that during one of the worst economic and health crises ever, these companies would step-up and take care of their customers who have spent THOUSANDS on their rental service. Problems happen...but the measure of a company is how they treat their customer after the problem arises. Never again. read more

I recently rented an RV. First time. Great time - almost 10 days with my almost 6yo daughter. Did have a glitch on the trip when the heater in the RV didn't work; but the 800# people were really helpful and immediately authorized a purchase of a space heater which I easily found at Ace Hardware. Not a huge deal. Sh*t happens. Then another glitch when I couldn't figure out how to get reimbursed. Was stuck in a loop with customer service and their email system. So I managed to get a hold of one the family members that own the company and he told me that his son was the right person and to email him. I did that and the son called me directly within an hour! They immediately arranged for the refund to my credit card. Between the great time my daughter and I had RV-ing and the A+ family that seems to own the Company, I'd definitely go with Cruise America again. read more

I would NEVER recommend using this company to anyone. The customer service was AWFUL. We were treated with no respect and little guidance when issues came about. While driving on our last day of our 10 day journey the microwave spastically ripped from the wall coming inches from my face. Avoid this rental place at all cost. The RV that was rented to us was very old. It had close to 100,000 miles on it. The ride inside was like sitting on a couch in the back of a Ryder moving van. Our kitchen sink drain pipe wasn't attached to the sinks drain so on the first night we washed our dishes all the water spilled onto the interior stairs! And made a puddle outside right in front of the door. There were 3 or 4 other things that made it obvious that they rented us (at full price of course) the most broke down RV they had. When I returned the RV the manager blamed me for the plumbing problem and was very rude about the situation. Drawers wouldn't stay shut. Bathroom sink also leaked, though not as bad. No speakers in back. Air conditioning was horrible. read more

Great experience! We got a 1-way rental to California because we were moving there from Chicago. At first, they tried giving us a high-mileage RV. We pushed back (asking for breaks and other reports because we were going to be driving through mountains with kids). They then gave us an RV in great condition. The generator overheated briefly in Las Vegas and customer service was super helpful walking us through how to give it a break and check the oil. We will definitely rent from Cruise America again. Don't be turned off by the negative reviews. Just thoroughly inspect the RV before accepting it and insist on a different RV if there is an issue (there were plenty available at this location). And if you're thinking about renting an RV for 1-way for a move to a different state, I highly recommend it, especially during Covid-19 to avoid hotels, restaurants, and public rest rooms. We needed a pandemic safe vacation for our family of 5 and puppy, and Cruise America delivered. I have to admit that I was apprehensive about RVing in general, and I have high standards on cleanliness and accommodations. Cruise America provided a wonderful last minute vacation for our family with a clean RV that allowed us to cruise around Lake Michigan. The RV was easy to drive and for us novices to figure out. We rented the Large which was well designed and had enough space for 2 adults and 3 kids. I do recommend reserving most camp spots as they were mostly full. We were pleased and would consider doing this again. read more

Just brought the RV back here and these crooks are trying to say that it smells like cigarette smoke and there are ashes in the RV, even though I have video and pictures proving otherwise. The manager looked at my credit card on file and saw that I had paid with American Express and suddenly the smoke odor disappeared. It's amazing!!! read more

We are currently on our rv trip to south dakota. We will NOT use Cruise America again. Our kitchen sink leaked all into our starirwell and was unusable for the entire trip. The driver/ passenger floor is scalding hot. There is a drawer that continuously opens. There are no speakers in the back of the rv-- only available to driver and passenger seat. No Ac in the back unless you want an additional charge for the generator. When we called about the sink, we were told we could find someone to fix it but don't let them charge more than $75 to fix it... like I want to do that on my vacation. Also, the RV is very bumpy- like a u-haul moving truck. For 3k, it should be a lot nicer. Very disappointed. read more

I had a great experience with my rv rental. I rented a 19 footer and took it to Glacier National Park. The staff was helpful and the check in and check out was smooth. When I brought it back they were very fast and pleasant. Great trip and fun RV. read more

My sister rented a 31 foot camper from these people for a our yearly family vacation. First off we had to drive 150 miles to Chicago to pick it up. Had to be there at 2:15 pm to pick it up. we did didn't get served and out of there till 5:00 pm!!! The place claimed it was a brand new 2018 camper, only had 150 miles on it. It drove like crap, the transmission slipped, the thing shook like crazy, the hot water "tank" was not working and my brother in law said they'd be severely compansated when returned ( we'll see tomorrow). The thing was built like a tri-level home!!!! three humugous steps up inside, one gigintic step up into the shower ( that didnt work due to the hot water issue), a huge pull up onto the toilet! ( i'm 5 foot, my son and nieces smaller!) and to top it off a 16 inch step up to the bedroom, that you had to step on to open the bathroom door and repeat to leave it. and the God awful bed that was way to high to get in without taking a running leap! I would never rent another RV like this or from these people. Too small, not enough storage, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, uncomfortable places to sit while riding in. If motion sickness is your thing then definetly don't rent! Hopefully my sister will not get conned tomorrow when they return it. She is a very formidable person so I hope she gets the refund! read more

There's a reason why this location gets only 2 stars (hopefully lower with my 1). Spent $5000 on a motorhome rental and they refused to give me two $30 credits for things that were broken (they only gave one credit). They also told me I should have fixed one problem on my own while traveling - fixing a broken shower handle while camping isn't my idea of vacation. Not to mention, when I drove away in the first RV, it steered so hard to the right I thought it was going off the road. When I brought it back it took 3 hours to replace it. No credit for that! I was told that since I asked for an early pick up (11:00am) then they were still within the 1-4:00 normal pick up window (we left with the second one at 4:00pm). Cruise America corporate customer service is great - let's hope they'll be more understanding when I file a complaint! read more

Cruise America was great to deal with....until we used the Mannheim Road dealer in Chicago. They gave us a standard RV with well over 100K miles on it, although there were many on the lot, assuring us it was ready to go. The RV literally fell apart as we drove. Two of the roof vents were broken and wouldn't shut. One we tied down, the other flapped. Three of the tires were low and needed air. The bathroom door locked when it shut and had to be jimmied open with a knife each time it shut. The over the cab section got more and more loose with more and more cold air coming in. We used jackets and coats to block the air (it was January). The paneling behind the driver kept coming loose. We got tired of slamming it back together and decided not to worry about the cosmetics...until the whole thing fell onto the passenger seat. Thankfully hitting the seat back and not my head with the drywall screws. Do NOT use this dealer unless they clean up their act. A lot. read more

Nice desk lady. Otherwise the camper itself was like traveling in a covered wagon. We couldn't get the water to work in the bathroom sink, the dump handle for the shitter came off, the right front tire was low by 20 pounds. I thought the vehicle was out of alignment until i stopped to check the tires and found they were all low, the shower leaked onto the ground. When i cited these things, the nice desk lady gave a standard apology and proceeded to tally my final bill for payment. It wasn't until i persisted ..requested compensation that she advised that she had to talk to her manager and if he agreed we would only be able to a get refund for one day or i could complain to the main office but such complaints often don't go anywhere with them 4thand i wouldn't be able to get the 1 day refund after complaining to the main office. So we took the one day refund. Also when picking up the camper the guy that went over everything with us, acted like it was a big pain in his backside when we asked questions or sought clarification about how things worked. Rolled his eyes. Then when dropping off the camper, the same guy checked us in, and said that there should have been a sticker in the bathroom faucet to show us how to operate it. Didnt apologize. Wasn't that part of his job?? The best part of the camper was the bed and the engine. We traveled over 3k miles out west. Hills were no problem. Beware, the floor in front passenger and drivers side gets super hot from engine. SHITTERS FULL! read more

The online rental process was simple enough, although found that prices leapt up quickly as we delayed booking (so book early). From there it was a strange ride. You have to call the day before to reserve a time to pick up your rental. I called every 20 minutes from the time they opened at 9am, finally got someone on the phone by 10:30a and was told I had to wait until 2:45p to pick up the RV. When I got there for the rental I find out they also charge for you to leave your car there while you use the RV. The RV was lovely, worked well, had a great trip. A bit annoying to leave the tank at 3/8 (why can't they just start you full??) and top up propane - but all achievable at a TA truck stop. Grateful for the after hours key drop option. Got in late with a grumpy baby, but still took the time to clean and wipe down the entire RV by hand. The next day the bill was confusing with a variety of abbreviations. When I called to clarify I was told, among other charges, we had to pay an extra $100 for cleaning due to pet hair. This equates to two hours of cleaning. When I told him that two hours seem excessive, the manager offered for me to come clean the RV myself. Not exactly great customer service. He made sure to send photos to prove his point ... but I still don't see this equating two hours of cleaning. Renter beware, if you have a pet around you will be paying for it. Unfortunately their customer service left a bad taste at the end of what was a nice trip. I'll look for alternate rentals in the future. read more

Where do I start first you have to call the day before to set up an appointment to pick up rv. When we got there we had to wait almost an hour before anyone said a thing to us. Then the lady behind the counter informed my mother that because she didn't have a drivers licenses that she could not be the one to pay for the vehicle which the people on the phone said that as long as she has a valid ID there would be no problem. Finally after we got that all figured out the dude who was "suppose" to show us how everything worked rushed through the whole thing was very very rude. Then they tell us it's a 2018 rv the thing looks like it was pieced together with glue and the engine is always racing the damn car would never go past 60 mph going up hill and when we would go down hill the damn thing would shoot forward and when I would push on the brake to slow it down it would go faster. Then when we finally made it to our destination we figured out that we couldn't get hot water because the thing was broken so my father call their servicing number and it took forever to get someone on the phone. Then the guy told us that there was nothing he could do because of the holiday so we had to go on with the rest of our trip without any hot water. The vehicle itself is very small on the inside don't take anyone with a disability because they won't be able to get to the bathroom the bedroom or even in the vehicle because there are very large steps to get in.
