The chicken salad sandwich at sweet and salty is -hands down- the best chicken salad sandwich in Portland period!!! It's got big chunks of chicken and a little sweet from some cranberry, some crunch with celery and Walnut and then some peppery spice that smacks you a little bit, but not too much. They keep it real simple and have a great white bread they put it on and, frankly, I can't get enough. I usually get one once a week or so depending and it never gets old. The gentleman behind the counter explained that it's challenging to determine the traffic during the week, so weekdays do have a less varied selection. however, there are still plenty of options! The weekday I visited, after seeing someone on Instagram devouring several cookies, scones and muffins, they had all those items plus pinwheel pastries, biscuits, popovers, quiche, hotdogs in pasty, mini chocolate lava cakes, and tarts. Hard to choose! Especially when I no longer over indulge on sweets and pastries So I limited myself to just one item. Opted for the popover freshly filled with Bavarian creme upon ordering. The popover was light and airy, but it was the sweet, delicate Bavarian - or maybe French - creme that took it over the top! They need to be eaten there, not saved for another day. On weekends they also have frittatas and breakfast sandwiches which I love. lily coffee is also available. And they have a dish with day old items for $1.50. The only downside is the tiny parking lot shared by several other stores so it's always packed. I drive a tiny Smart car and still had to maneuver and do a few k-turns to get out safely. The order process was seamless as well as the pick up. The cake was beautifully decorated and tasted just like how it was advertised. While they are known for their cakes, their pastries are wonderful as well! Their cinnamon rolls are immaculate - not too sweet and not dry!! They also don't put raisins in it!!
