"Charlie, we have a saw, just cut we in half" Another real conversation, "do you carry cedar?" "Nope, we all out" "not even one board, I just need a 10' piece" "yeah we got some" "ok, could you show me where it is?" "Follow me" Everything is covered in loads of dust. BUT, even though it is a different location, 84 Lumber is the exact same company I remember growing up (was a different location but identical inside... nostalgia!) While the guy working there was not helpful and should probably be fired, they had my wood and brought back memories with grandpa.

A contractor friend of mine suggested I try 84 Lumber for some lu.ber needs which I needed for a roofing job. WOW!!! I am now a fan of 84 Lumber. Ben was SUPER cordial and helpful first thing I. The morning as we pulled in at the crack of dawn. He gave me a military discount and let me know their price for the lumber I needed was the same as Lowes, only at a grade stop above in quality. They also have a designated parking space for wounded Veterans near the front door which I thought was very nice for those who deserve it. It appears 84 Lumber has more lumber than anyone else and they will help you load it if you like. Thank you, Ben for being a great asset of 84 Lumber. I appreciated the friendly and professional service I received when I came in the door right after they opened.

That doesn't mean all the other folks I talk to aren't amazing too. I wanna say Chris? (giant man , compared to my 5'2" stature) is also kind and helpful. I will keep coming back. It's a great relationship that I will continue to cultivate! Thanks yall!

We're about to close on a new home and are in need of lots of renovation materials at deep discounts. So for Valentine's Day we shopped around and made plans for our new home together -- a bit of dreaming and a bit of reality. He had heard about Builders Surplus, and what we found was aisle after aisle of basic home items. We are focusing most of our attention on bathroom and kitchen re-dos. Builders Surplus had lots of stone and laminate countertops to look at -- most in the $30-per-square-foot range. (Countertops at other stores have been more in the $50 to $80 range.) Similarly, Builders Surplus had some great prices on tile. In particular, I found large square marble-looking tile that would be great for a bathroom floor for $1.29 square foot compared to much more at big box stores, which we ventured to after Builders Surplus, providing some great cost comparisons. Builders Surplus also had a large selection of bathroom and kitchen sinks and bases for bathroom sinks. Plus, many of the bathroom sink bases are made with unfinished wood, making it easy to paint the base to fit with the bathroom. We got to Builders Surplus about 20 minutes before closing, so we were rushed to see it all. I'm holding out my fifth star for when we go back and make some very fun purchases.

We went into New Albany location a few weeks ago to look at whole house window replacement…read more A fast speaking young man showed us the options (luckily we did our own research and have done windows in a previous house). He was only moderately interested as he told us his specialty was "historic" preservation (sorry our house is only historic to our family). We were told we would be called to set up a visit for measurements followed by a quote. After two weeks and no call my husband called the store and was told we would get a call (last) Saturday and still nothing. Guess we'll move on. Would like to use this side of the state line, but what can we do. As Julia Roberts told the snobby salesgirl in "Pretty Woman" -"big mistake" as a kitchen and bathroom total renovation is to follow.

I spoke to a carpenter that has done some work for me in the past, and he suggested I talk to PC as they are a Andersen distributor. Stopped in PC with the idea I may have to buy a replacement window. I spoke with Sandra McClure and explained what was going on with my window. Once she narrowed down the exact model of my window, she took me to their window showroom. Ms. McClure pointed me to the Series 200 Andersen window and asked if that is my window. She was right on the money. At this point she starts disassembling the window so she could show me all the weatherstripping and gaskets. She showed me each one I should check. At this point we go back to the sales desk and she prints out a full schematic of my window and highlights all the pieces I needed to check. I had volunteered I thought I may have to buy a new window. Throughout our entire conversation she said I have excellent windows and she doubted it needed replacing. She kept saying she felt sure my window could be repaired without too much trouble. Additionally she stated any parts I may need she could get them for me. Not one time did she try to sell me a new window. I did ask for a quote just in case my worse fears were the case. So, I come home and start taking my window apart. Two of the main gaskets that seal the windows together are somewhat adjustable. I gently adjusted the gaskets and the window quit leaking air. Now one final small problem. As I was trying to tighten up the window latch, I stripped out the wood casing. So I call Ms. McClure and first thank her for her excellent guidance. Then I explain I stripped the screws on the latch. Yep, she had a fix for that too. Worked like a charm. In these times of less and less customer service, Ms. McClure and PC provided excellent service. You can bet if I need anything window related, I'll buy it at PC.

The store's owner, Sandra, is so approachable, and you can tell she's passionate about this. Alas, I have not yet had a need for their building products. But I have purchased several of the gift items they have in the store -- another reason to check it out! Honest Home carries this fun line of cards with cut-out birds to be used in mobiles. It also has kits to build your own toys, and for Christmas, I particularly admired the ornaments and wood veneer Christmas tree garland. The store gets the veneer scraps from manufacturers, and it would have otherwise been thrown out. Honest Home brings its green mission to Christmas trees as well. And for home products, I've noticed that they carry recycled rugs, compost bins, flooring and countertops, lighting, cleaning products and paint. I am hoping to buy a home soon, so I'm looking forward to getting some green supplies to make over my new home. I'm holding out on the fifth star until then. I'm sure I'll continue to be impressed by Honest Home.
