So excited that there is a new Thai place open in the Uptown Quadrangle plaza. What's great about this restaurant is that they have a unique concept and convenience factor to carter to the local Uptowners. I already went to this place twice - dinner and lunch, and I love what it has to offer. Love the menu concept, as there are only eight entrees to choose from. I practically tried everything on the menu. Tofu fries, #1 Phat Ke mao, #3 Kra-Pao and #8 Suar Rong Ha and Thai tea. They all tasted fantastic and the portion of the food was just right. Crushcraft opens extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays until 3 in the morning. That's convenient for those who live nearby the area to grab something to eat after hours. I pretend to be cuisine neutral, not favoring one over another, but Thai is probably my favorite. Crushcraft was getting a lot of buzz and continues to do so with good reason. The food is authentic, delicious and inexpensive. A trifecta of awesome. On my pursuit of Thai food appreciation I have spent some time cooking Thai. My touchstone dishes for a good Thai place are Tom Yum Gai and Gra Pow. The Gra Pow at Crushcraft does not disappoint. (For the uninitiated, Gra Pow is a spicy, green pepper ground beef with an egg on top.) Their Gra Pow has enough heat to make your face tingle, but still maintain delicious fresh bell pepper and basil flavors. Served over rice with fried egg on top. A real treat. The other dish we tried was a green curry. It was lovely with a nice heat to counter the sweetness of the coconut milk. Abundant Japanese eggplant. The dish had these wonderful little pickled green tomatoes. Oh! Sooo good. Rich and fragrant. The menu changes periodically. You will find it written out on two large rolls of brown paper by the door. Some items may be crossed out. I always find 86es to be a good sign. The right 86 means the kitchen is cooking fresh food. Be adventurous. Pick something you don't recognize. All dishes are served in brown cardboard, bio degradable plates. Think the salad bar at Wholefoods. That stuff. The silverware is plastic. So the dining experience is lo-fi, except that the food is so good, you can forgive the informality. And truth in advertising, you're getting a street eats experience, not high church ritual dining. $2 Thai beers (Singha and Chang) on Tuesday nights. My one gripe was that the beer was not cold enough. The dining room is created to give an open air feel. I think the large patio doors can open during clement weather. The decor creates the impression of a Thai outdoor food court. The effect ties everything together better than the Dude's rug. Worth a few visits. read more

In my quest for the best Thai food in the area, I'd heard a lot about the locally sourced family run Crushcraft. Unfortunately, it wasn't even close to living up to expectations. While running a clean supply chain and being a smaller businesses might give Crushcraft a homier image, the food didn't provide much value or flavor. While there I tried the Gang Keo Wan (AKA green curry) and Phat Ke Mao (AKA beef noodles). As authentic as the names sound off the menu, the taste was very poor in quality. As in, near flavorless. The vegetables added to the curry seemed to be added for the sake of vegetables rather than to add to the flavor of the curry and the chicken was dry and unpleasant to eat. The noodles were slightly better, but still very lacking in flavor. For both dishes it was as if someone had given a college student a recipe and a $5 allowance for groceries and to go wild. There was an egg in the dishes too. Don't understand why they were there. Maybe to fill you up? Because the rest of the dish certainly didn't. This is a great place to grab a quick bite if you're craving some Thai food. It's "Thai street eats", so maybe not the Thai food you're used to, but what they offer is really good and (I assume) pretty darn authentic. It's an order-at-the-counter establishment, and their menu is up on their wall to your left as you walk in. I ordered the #10, which is three fresh rolls (your choice of chicken or tofu, I chose tofu) plus a cup of Tom Kha soup for $8.65. I also got a side of jasmine rice for $1.08. My favorite thing was the soup! It was so flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. I added the rice to it for a little texture and it was perfect. The rolls were also great, very fresh and healthy. They came with a little cup of chili sauce that gave them a great kick. My friend had the #1, the Phat Ke Mao, or Drunken Noodles, wide rice noodles with chicken and veggies. She liked it a lot, although she said it was the kind of spicy that clears out your sinuses. The decor in this place is gorgeous, the main seating area has a beautiful ceiling with plenty of skylights and colorful streamers dangling down. This place has become my favorite place for Thai food. Although it's quite a drive for me, it's definitely worth it! I absolutely love, love, love the decor inside. The colorful paper strips that hang from the ceilings are such a unique and cute decor! And I love how big the windows are too- lots of natural light during the day time and a nice view at night! I ordered the OG Phat Thai, tofu fries and a Thai tea. I was SO excited when I saw that there was tofu fries on the menu- although it's just fried tofu with a dipping sauce (it was still good)! A unique casual Thai dining experience in the uptown area! What a perfect spot for you to have a Thai lunch or dinner! Affordable prices and taste great in quality! First of all I love the modern and Asian flair decor and space! They have different props that don't see in a typical Thai place: pickled peppers on shelves, walls covered with old ramen noodle and fish sauce boxes, strings of ribbons in the ceiling, and bamboo in the high ceiling. You place your order at the counter and they call your name on the microphone and you pick it up at the expedite bar. They serve most if their food items in biodegradable plates and silverware. As for the food... It was as authentic as it can be! I saw the kitchen staff in the back and profiled then as "legit". They have their own spelling/ way of calling their food. But for the sake of my review I'll just tell you what I had. Chicken padthai: the noodle texture was good it wasn't soggy or overcooked. It wasn't overly sweet or super saucy like most places. I like how they use more of the tamarind base rather overuse that the red oil base. Of course it came with bean sprouts, fried tofu, and chicken. Papaya salad: for $5 I think the portion was good for the price. They used tiny dried shrimp and an decent amount of fish sauce that wasn't overpowering. If you stand and watch them make it behind the counter you can actually see them using the mortar and pestle on the shreds of papaya and strands of the raw green beans. That's pretty epic for a casual Thai joint if you ask me. Pad Kee Mao: the flat noodles was flavorful but not overly salty. What's different about this dish was that they use grounded up chunks of beef rather than thick slices of beef. I'm actually ok with this as I don't like how some places have chewy thick slices of beef at times. What I don't really care about this dish was the pieces of green lettuce. I assuming it was to offset the flavorful-ness? I just don't like hot lettuce. Tofu fries: slices of fried tofu in a cup with a sweet and tangy chili sauce sprinkled with scallions. I like the crunch and it's not oily. Kra Pao: jasmine rice with ground pork and a sunny side egg. The flavor was very similar to their pad kee mao to me. I don't know if this dish was my favorite or not. Nothing is wrong with it. I just don't know if I want rice and a side of ground pork. Just not epic to me. Sides of sticky rice: it came in the cute small wicker baskets. The rice was nice warm and had the perfect texture that wasn't dry at all. Over all I am quite impressed with the food here. Very cool place! I was attracted to it after seeing all the other good reviews Yelpers had and stopped by for casual lunch on a Friday afternoon. If you have ever traveled to Thailand, and in particular, to Chiang Mai, you will understand my fervent pursuit of and obsession with Khao Soi. This is a noodle soup found only in northern Thailand and is a complex dish made with spicy curry broth, pickled mustard greens, and egg noodles topped with fried rice noodles. Having taken a cooking class in Chiang Mai where we went to the market to collect all the ingredients and crush the curry in a mortar and pestle, I know that making khao soi is pretty involved. Since coming back from visiting Thailand over 2 years ago, I have been in hot pursuit of this elusive dish. I was thrilled when I saw it on the menu at Crushcraft! First off, the atmosphere at crushcraft is very cool. I elected to sit outside on the patio where there was a nice breeze cozy booths. There were colorful flags decorating the space and it felt like a cool, urban street cafe. You order up front and wait until they call your name. I obviously ordered the khao soi and waited about 10 minutes for them to complete my order. When it came out, I surprised by how little soup there was in my bowl. I love noodle soups (pho, chicken noodle, you name it!) but was a bit disappointed at first glance. Nonetheless, I dipped my fork into my bowl and brought the curry-enrobed noodles into my mouth - it was delicious! Besides the traditional accompaniment of lime, I thought this was pretty authentic. It was delicious and I quickly slurped up the entire bowl. It got kind of spicy at the end, but I finished every last bite. This version is probably in my top 3 for khao soi - I truly enjoyed it. It's a great little place in The Quadrangle that offers basic Thai fares and then some. While they open late into the night, we were lucky to squeeze in right before the lunch crowd spilled out the door, which, according to a Crushcraft veteran, is the norm. We were able to find a table under the brilliantly lit space towards the back where I shared my sizable bowl of pad thai. I'm so excited to have a go-to Thai place in Dallas! I was in Dallas for a short amount of time, and while there, I probably went to Crushcraft 4 times. Only found it because I was looking for something near Whole Foods, and Yelp never fails me! The distance from the hotel I was staying at, to the eatery was not far, so friends would walk there, take the trolley, or take Lyft. Inside was light and airy, hip. There's 3 different seating areas: when you come in, a main room, and outside. Stay close cause they call your name when your food is ready. I ordered the drunken noodles and have no complaints. I like the concept here and the decor made it seem like you're eating at a street market in Thailand. When you first enter, the menu is on the wall by the entrance. Pick out what you want and order at the registrar, pay, and pick a table to wait. They will call your name when your order is ready. We were the odd ones in the crowd of business professionals from a few financial companies nearby. We ordered the steak with rice, khao soi, and fried tofu sticks. If you are a spicy food lover, this is like heaven!!! I love their pepper stand. There are about four different kinds of chili pepper in different texture and sauces. Sriracha is one of the options, chili pepper in fish sauce is another, dry chili flakes, and I think a wet red chili sauce. I love spicy food so of course, I dived in for all the peppers. I think different kind of chili goes with different dishes. For example, the dry chili flakes was a better fit for my khao soi just because it's curry and it just makes sense to use dry chili. The fish sauce chili pepper was better with the tofu sticks in my opinion. I didn't like the original sauce that came with it, too sweet for my taste. One thing I will say about this restaurant is that they have good customer service. On my first visit, I was displeased about how my order was taken incorrectly, i was charged for two items when I only ordered one and I wasn't satisfied with the two entrees. I actually wrote this restaurant off (In my mind) and vowed to never return. However, the owner contacted me and apologized on behalf of the staff and encouraged me to reconsider trying this restaurant a second time. So I did. This time I actually ordered two entrees: the drunken noodles and the red curry beef. I enjoyed the red curry beef this time. I actually found the coconut curry to complement the jasmine rice as opposed to overpowering it (like I thought in my original review). Wasn't too pleased with the drunken noodles because they were sweet (not as sweet as the pad thai but still sweeter than I would expect drunken noodles/pad see ew to taste like especially since this is not known to be a sweet dish). I also disliked the drunken noodles because ground beef was used as their meat. I was expecting beef but more along the lines of the angus beef strips served with the red curry beef entree as opposed to ground beef. Portion sizes are small. This restaurant is great as a lunch spot! I just wish they offered more appetizers, i.e. corn patties, shrimp blankets/shrimp wrapped in rice paper, etc. I am used to Thai restaurants offering more options for appetizers besides soup and veggie egg rolls. The onions and peppers in both dishes had a bit of a propane-like tinge to them, but it was oddly appealing. The entrance could be laid out a little better to avoid blocking the doors with the queue. Just came here for lunch and I must say I do love the ambiance. It is very casual yet has that strong Uptown Dallas feel to it. (I don't mean that in a bad way. If I lived closer, I would love to visit this area more. It's pretty and clean.) I ordered the Gang Panang Neua ($9) with the tofu fries ($3 ish) and just stared at the cool roof until they called out my name. The food itself was delicious and is something that I would definitely eat again. I was a little disappointed when I noticed that curry was just barely warm. I'm guessing they dished it out before my tofu fries were done, which came out incredibly crispy hot and awesome as thought. I think the taste of the curry itself was good on its own, but the curry sauce with the pickled radish, and then the dipping sauce for the tofu combined were too sweet for me. I tend to like only a little sweet dipping/sides so it doesn't leave a sugary aftertaste when I bite into my savory rice and meat. Crushcraft Thai is awesome! I visited this place with a few friends last summer and we all had such a wonderful experience. What I really like about this place is that their portion sizes are more normal instead of overkill. Normally at Thai restaurants, there's so much food on the plate that I leave feeling like I'm in a coma. But here, they give you just the right amount of food. I ordered the Phat Ke Mao (Drunken Noodle), along with an order of Tofu Fries for sharing. The tofu fries could have been left off of the order because there was nothing grand about them. They were tasteless. But, the Drunken Noodle meal I had was insanely delicious! There seasoning and the sauce on the noodles were both amazing and there was just the right amount of sweet and savory flavors to give this dish a golden star! I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed this sooner! I'm a big fan! Every Thai restaurant you go to has some staple items. Crushcraft has those, but adds a little twist to each dish. It's called "street eats" because the interior is designed to make you feel like you're on the streets of Bangkok or something. You definitely still feel like you're in Uptown, Dallas, but nonetheless, its great location and cool/colorful decor provides a different experience from your other Thai places. You can't really go wrong with your choice. #3 with the fried egg on top is delicious, but I've tried a number of other items, and they're all very tasty. You can substitute tofu in a few of their dishes and and still be pure vegetarian-- just ask. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of were the tofu fries. They were bland and didn't compare to the rest of our meal. Lots of seating and parking isn't terrible. The last time I went, I think people were using it as a pre-gaming spot. They have beer towers. My first experience at Crushcraft was a good one! My husband and I love Thai food so we were excited to try a new place. First of all, they totally revamped what used to be Baker Brothers. All the decor inside makes it really feel like you're eating legit street food. Love what they did to the glass ceiling atrium too. This is a very casual place, you walk in and immediately you'll see a big board of their menu to your left. You stand in line and make your order and they'll call you by name when your order is ready. Easy peasy. They offer a good variety of basic Thai noodle and rice dishes, salads and a few soups. I tried #1 Phat Ke Mao and my husband got #3 Kra Pao. We also shared spring rolls and the tofu fries. They also offer a few Asian beers and fresh fruit waters (I got the cucumber mint water). So refreshing! Our food was ready in about 5 minutes and I was really impressed w/ the portion size given the cheap prices $8-10 per plate). I was also impressed with the taste. It had a little kick to it, but it wasn't overbearing and not too salty. They also did not short you on the meat either! The tofu fries were so cute, they came in a little cup. They're just basically sliced fried tofu and you can dip in a sweet chili sauce. Nice "healthier" version of fries. The spring rolls were great too! Great portion sizes. I had this place at at the Yelp Summer Solstice event and they were amazing. The food is absolutely delicious and flavorful. They had sangria for $5 I'm assuming for Sunday "brunch". They give you quite a bit of food and are super inexpensive. The outdoor patio is nice and the atrium is so fun and colorful if you don't exactly want to be outside but still enjoy vitamin D. I don't have anything special to say about the staff. Finally, casual, fast Thai food! Well, semi fast in the sense that it's not a sit down restaurant like 99% of all Thai restaurants in Dallas. A drive thru here would be pretty amazing though. Order at the front, find a seat, and get your food at the front when your number is called. Crushcraft sets itself apart by offering a fun, unique vibe ranging from its decor to the names of their dishes on the menu to the actual food. There's ample seating inside and outside on their patio in the back and front. I also love how natural light fills the restaurant during the day! The food isn't heavy or drenched in extremely sweet or spicy sauce like you see in most thai restaurants. You can modify the level of spice/sweetness to your dish by adding your choice of condiments available by the counter. - OG Phat thai- I always order this, because it never fails to satisfy my thai craving. I would omit the fried tofu but picking those out isn't a big deal. - Phat ke mao- wide flat rice noodles with ground beef, veggies and a delicious sweet and savory sauce that brings it all together. - tofu fries- fried tofu in large fry form with a slightly fried exterior and rubbery texture inside. I just decided to try Crushcraft on a whim and I am so, so glad that I did. I was in Dallas for the week and had a craving for Thai food. I search on Yelp and Crushcraft came up just a little over a mile away. The restaurant is in a little strip mall with a number of restaurants, but once you get inside you would have no idea. The decor inside is bright and open, which really makes it feel like you are outside (but with air conditioning). And, the sitting area is beautiful and open to the sun through a glass atrium. You order at the counter and pick up the food when they call your name, so don't go in expecting anything fancy. The food though is out of this world. After browsing the menu for a little while, I ended up ordering the Phat Ke Mao (druken noodles) while my friend order the Khao Man Gai. On the side we ordered the Thai Fried Boiled Eggs and the Tofu Fries. The food came out after just a couple of minutes and the woman working the counter was very determined to get our orders just right. Man did she do a good job. Everything that we ordered was wonderful. The Phat Ke Mao beef was delicious and the noodles were just chewy enough. There were plenty of vegetables and the dish wasn't too oily. I didn't get to try the Khao Man Gai though because by the time I looked up from mine, my friend had finished it! The Thai Fried Boiled Eggs are an absolute must in my opinion. Think of your typical soy sauce boiled egg deep friend and then cut in half. Really, I have dreams about them. The Tofu Fries were also great. I wouldn't say they were the most special, but deep fried tofu...yum. The food all came with a sweet chile sauce for dipping too, which I loved. Even though we ubered there, parking looks like it is a breeze. Since it is in a shopping strip mall, there are a ton of spots that surround the restaurant. All in all, Crushcraft has made its way into my heart and I will definitely be back when I am in Dallas. The name doesn't lie; the food is most definitely street eats, so don't expect too much in the realm of fine dining or even real napkins (think a roll of brown paper towels). But, you can come in looking for some great, inexpensive food. Woohoo! As good as it gets! read more

I have no complain about this place. The only problem is far from my crib but that's okay. Everything are awesome. Ambiance is great, food are awesome, price are perfect. I love everything.. Good quick Thai food, but terrible at everything else. Food delivery process could be refined because it's too loud, jarring, and disruptive. They announce names over a microphone loudly, it's terribly cold inside, and the interior is junky. This isn't a place you want to sit and chat or enjoy a meal. But it's serviceable. read more

It was my birthday. I think people just roll their eyes rather than give in. We came walking in and wanted some beer. We had questions. The girl up front was super nice, but not at all amused. I ended up with a decent Deep Ellum brew. They had a few beers on tap, including Blood and Honey. They had four beers in cans/bottles. Also cold saki and box'o'wine. Cute place. Airflow in said cute place is dicey. There's one room up front by the registers which is pleasant. The rest of the restaurant was sort of hot and stuffy. They really need some more ac's. I had the #6 Curry. I was great. I made a happy plate. Spring roll bites are good. Everyone liked their food. Service was good. Music is not great. They have an app they are pushing to you can change the music, and god help me I wanted to, but I'm not paying for an app to change bad loud music in a restaurant. Is it possible the owners are also the owners of the app? "Here, listen to a full volume Linken Park-a-thon ORRRRRR pay us to have it stop." Sort of scammy if you ask me, whether they own it or not. There is lots of No here. Even though the green curry is a delicious "yes," you still have to deal with copious amounts of "No." No shrimp option for any dishes. Want to drink a hot tea? Yes, you guessed it: That is also a "No." They put sugar. In. Everything. It's Lent, so I gave up meat, and ordered tofu pad thai. Guess what was in my Pad Thai? Yup, chicken. So even, "Can I have tofu instead of chicken?" is a no. It's hard to say "Yes" to someplace with so many "Nos." So I won't. Yes, I know that this place is popular, blah,blah, blah. Very nice place for work day lunch. Not a good choice if you come to Dallas for a one day visit and choose it for one of the two meals.

We love Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, and end up bookmarking a lot of places from that show. We especially love it when one of them sounds great and is local-which led us here for lunch on a Saturday. Love the look of the place-with the open seating and huge windows-but it seemed every table was wobbly...really wobbly. Ordering was easy, food was done pretty quickly and prices are good. My fried rice was tasty and had good spice. Hubby liked his food too. But ultimately, Crushcraft was just not all that special and did not offer anything to take us away from our usual go-to Thai place. read more
