Ambiance was great. Love the atmosphere. You are greeted when you walk in. Menus are at the counter where you order & on top of a trashcan when you walk in. I was looking for an authentic Thai/lao cuisine and this is as close as it gets here in Dallas after coming back from being in Laos for some time. Only thing I didn't enjoy was the portioning to the cost. I felt like I received very little for what I paid. Flavor was great but the spice level wasn't there. I got a level 5 as well. Good restaurant. Hope to come back again and maybe see some changes in the portions or pricing. Sticky rice was a bit pricier than I anticipated!

Sweet rice is the newest Thai place here in bishop arts and was exactly what the neighborhood was missing. The owner is so sweet and always so helpful when ordering. Beware their spice levels as they use real Thai chilis and it can get very hot very fast, so usually I order a 3 or 4 spice level elsewhere but here I order 2. We have only ordered to-go granted from here but Everything we have had is always great! Our go to's are the duck fat fried rice (comes with combo steak chicken and shrimp) and then the crab rangoons, egg rolls, yellow curry and moo ping. I think that will get you right in almost any state!

I literally can't say enough good things about Sweet Rice because even after a week of eating here, my boyfriend and I are still raving about it. Sweet Rice is owned and run by a Thai family (I believe), so you best believe that the food is incredibly authentic. The very nice lady gave us incredible recommendations, and she was so sweet and kind. She brought out lots of Thai spice options, which were fantastic additions to our entrees. Pricing is honestly very reasonable for the amount of food that you get, and you also have to keep in mind which neighborhood Sweet Rice is located in. The menu looks incredible and we honestly wanted to try everything, but we opted for the duck fat fried rice and this other rice dish that was so freaking good. I've never had Thai food this good in Dallas much less anywhere else in Texas, so that's how you know this is truly a gem. The duck fat fried rice was so unique and so fragrant, and I would come back just to order this again. The other rice dish that we got was also so yummy with the meat and the rice perfectly cooked. The sauce from the meat seeped into the sauce, so we were scarfing down bite after bite. I truly can't say enough good things about Sweet Rice. This has become one of my boyfriend's and my favorite restaurants in all of Texas, and we plan on bringing our family and friends here. Please come try it out! They're worth the visit.

FRESH FOOD!! My daughter works in the Bishop Arts area and recommended we try Sweet Rice. Shes been here a few times and highly recommended it. What a great choice! Everyone was so welcoming and helpful with the menu options. Very clean and chill environment. We had a great experience and will be back. I had the chicken Pad Thai and my husband had the chicken fried rice. Both were delicious with lots of flavor. I ordered mine at a 3 but maybe I'll get 4 next time. I like my food pretty spicy and was offered some fresh spices and sauces to add by the sweet lady at the counter. So good. My son and daughter ordered a couple of appetizers to try, shrimp fresh rolls and crab cream cheese. Their peanut sauce is so yummy! I even added some in my Pad Thai. Everything tastes so fresh. I got a strawberry green tea with boba to go. Very refreshing and tasty. If you're in the Bishop Arts area and want a bite to eat I highly recommend trying them out. They're located where Encanto Pop used to be. Very cute spot with delicious food.

I have been so meaning to get to this review! I could keep it succinct and just say Go to Sweet Rice! But we loved that this food is superb and is here in Oak Cliff, so we definitely need to say more! The female front of house that was here the day we came to Sweet Rice was so amazing to us, I can't begin to tell you how kind she is and I forgot her name. I am so embarrassed. She was lovely. And she managed the front pretty much by herself. She warned us about the spice level. We can generally take the heat; but we ordered a "2" and it had plenty of heat for my husband and I. She was right. ( I usually get a "3" and he orders a "4" on a 1 - 5 scale.) For our first visit we chose familiar items. Thai Chicken Wings, Thai Chicken Green Curry, and a little something different, Street Thai Train Fried Rice with a three meat combo - beef, chicken, shrimp. But the Sweet Rice menu is incredible. Soups are headliners here - so many. Noodles. Combinations I would love to try. As it turned out, everything we had was terrific. Perfectly cooked, seasoned and served, it was plenty of food for two people. Street Thai Train Fried Rice was seasoned such that each grain of rice was as seasoned as the next. It was a beautiful rice dish that needed no sauce even. The chicken wings were not greasy at all. Tight and crispy but tender and juicy. Very Good and again, well seasoned. The curry was perfect. The vibe is good with plants and that historic building feel. Although there is a huge wonderful sunny window at the front of Sweet Rice, the restaurant itself is small. There's Ledge seating at the window and other tables and chairs that are close in proximity. They have Counter ordering. There is one unisex bathroom and no additional dining in back. I lived in Oak Cliff and this little spot is truly evocative of old Oak Cliff. It's built along with a string of other small historic buildings, newly revitalized places, along Davis going West downhill towards the intersection of Tyler. It's interesting. It's intimate. And it's tough to park. I'm not gonna lie. There is parking in back, in front of a long deck, where you can enter through the restaurant's back door. There's a few spots to fight for out front and more back east up the street. It's better at different times of the day, I'm sure. We had no trouble parking today!

    Me still here. I'm out.

Peeps. I can't even rate this place on food. The customer service towards me was deplorable. I'm ordered fried rice to go. FOUR families ordered after me for sit down meals and received their food before me. Thirty minutes later they told me some nonsense like the online orders are backed up. Ma'am you took my order at the counter!!! No apology or kindness given. I'm still waiting. Horrible!!!

I was cheerfully welcomed as I entered. Fast casual, small dining area , limited seating and parking but definitely worth it. Food and service just as good as other Sweet Rice location. Even the eat-in foods are served in I sat at the small dining counter with a view to Davis St. All orders are served in biodegradable containers. I did not check out bathrooms but this place is clean and tidy. Thank you for being in Oak Cliff. 5 stars.

Updated Review - the portion sizes have gotten better over time. This Thai restaurant is extremely good, I wish the prices were a few dollars cheaper for better value. Typically end of up paying $20 for almost any lunch sized portioned meal.

    Chicken pad Thai

I used to love Sweet Rice and it was our go-to spot for Chicken Pad Thai. Unfortunately, our visit today was disappointing. We ordered our usual Chicken Pad Thai and vegetable egg rolls. The egg rolls were excellent as always. However, the Pad Thai noodles were noticeably undercooked -- stiff and hard to eat. My husband actually choked on them, so we politely asked for the dish to be remade. The second version was slightly better but the noodles were still not fully cooked. When I asked for to-go container lids and extra Pad Thai sauce (so I could steam and soften the noodles at home), an older lady (around 70) shook her head and said "no." After I offered to pay for the extra sauce, she eventually provided it, but the interaction felt rude and unwilling. The combination of declining food quality and this poor customer service has changed my experience so much that it will unfortunately be our last visit. I really wish it hadn't ended this way.

    Chicken Skin 10/10

My friend introduced me to this place and when I tell you the lady I am going to assume she is the manager she told us her name and it was very pretty and unique. But the food is goooooooood the chicken skin let's just say I went 3 days in a row and their refresher oooommmmmggggg the strawberry refresher is gooood....

I absolutely love Meat Larb and Papaya Salad, and I also picked up some small sticky rice and a container of cabbage pickle. I remember the gentleman at the counter quoted me around $42.00 for everything, which seemed right based on what I ordered. When I paid by card, I honestly didn't get a clear view of the amount on the terminal, and I was in a bit of a hurry, so I didn't think to ask for a receipt at the time. I totally regret that now! It wasn't until I checked my bank statement a couple days later that I noticed a charge of $282.20 from Overseas Market. As you can imagine, I was pretty surprised, as it's quite a bit more than the $42.00 I was expecting. Spoke with the man by the phone he said I don't have a receipt and refused to work with me. At this point he left me no choice I got back online and did a partial dispute. This type of incident can happen to anyone so, please ask for a receipt and take time to look at it.

But the dining flow is smoother and the dining room is larger and more comfortable. They have sacrificed considerable shelf shopping, an entire row - I didn't see my favorite pho packaged broth mix - but I certainly appreciated all the new tables and chairs. You still order and pay up front. There are photos for everything you might want to order, but there is something that cannot really be conveyed. I believe that the heat levels are hotter than most places. They will warn you. Believe them. So I believed it, it was still HOT, and I had to laugh. I still enjoyed it all. So my Husband got his wish and ordered the garlicky Pork Riblets. They are marinated in garlic, fried in garlic, and topped with garlic. So very very good. He also had the Chicken Wings also deep into the garlic flavor and very tender. He shared with me. Thank goodness. So I shared the always crunchy and tasty pork egg rolls. Heaven. They came with their own sauce, but there's a table up by the kitchen with the Hoisin, Sriracha, and other sauces and of course there is a spice tray. My husband had their wonderful green curry and I, the Pad Kee Mao, which was very spicy even at a (2). I wasn't keen on the noodle texture or lack of sauce. I've had many versions of Drunken Noodles and I wanted to like this this one. I love this grocery and restaurant combination. It's aromatic and fun! The restaurant has vibrant decor and murals that transport you to a diverse neighborhood. Every employee who helped us was approachable and kind, checking on us after we were seated and served, going as far as taking photos for us when we asked because we were celebrating our anniversary, and bringing out things we asked for once we were seated. It seems basic to say that, but the warmth and kindness was felt from each employee we interacted with, and I don't want to gloss over their good service. Our order: - Angry Pho Birria Platter - Elote + Chips - Strawberry Lemonade - Ube Horchata The pho (a little spicy) and bao (a little sweet with super tender meat) will make you want to do a happy dance. The wings could have been a little crunchier but they were sauced so it's understandable. The Bang Bang and Spicy Chili flavors were delicious. The Birria tacos were good, but we loved everything else on the platter more. The Elote + chips starter was authentic and yummy. The chips felt like an odd pairing, but it tasted good together! The Strawberry Lemonade was sweet but refreshing. The Ube Horchata was creamy and delicious. Not too sweet, and the ice didn't ruin it. Know before you go: - Arrive early! We got there when they opened at 11 AM on a Friday. Two other parties were already there and waiting to dine, as well. By 11:30 AM, a nice-sized crowd had rolled in. They had no problem getting everyone served quickly, though. - You order and pay first, grab a seat, and then they bring your food out to you. - Yes, the platter sizes are sufficient for two hungry adults to fill up on! You might even have trouble finishing it all. - Their online menu has awesome pictures of each platter option. The platters look smaller in person than in those photos, but as I said, you will definitely get full. - My husband, who is not a pho lover, loved the Angry Pho. - They are closed on Saturdays and Mondays. - They have gluten-free and halal options.

I ordered the basil fried rice (spice level 2) and the pork fried crispy rolls. The spice level 2 gave the rice a subtle kick - noticeable but not overwhelming - which is just the way I like it. The basil fried rice was packed with egg, bamboo shoots, baby corn, mushrooms, bell peppers, white onions, fresh basil, and garlic. The flavors were balanced, and the portion size was VERY generous - this was way more than single meal for me. The crispy pork rolls were also very good. They were filled with pork, green onions, glass noodles, carrots, white onions, and cabbage, and served with a thin sweet & sour sauce that complemented them nicely without being too heavy. Even though I ordered them as an appetizer, they arrived midway through my meal, so not the best timing. The fountain machine wasn't working, so drinks were $2.50 for a can of soda with no refills. That felt a bit steep for a canned drink. I count that as a downside of the visit. Overall, the food was flavorful and generously portioned. With small improvements on the drink situation and meal timing, it could easily be a 5-star experience.
