Burgers are very good...I would pass on the pastas and salads though. Update: the pizza is good thin crust and tasty but it could be better. I have been coming to Cryan's before the new ownership, back when it was Miller's Tavern. The food has always been great, the reason for the 3 stars is because my server (never even caught her name), was constantly on her phone- like where we could actually see her and it was obvious that she was ready for us to leave, so she could close out her section. There was even a point where our drinks had been empty for awhile & the GM had to come over to ask what we were drinking. All-in-all, the service has gone down hill, at least with the wait staff. read more

My wife Maria and I went on Friday ( August 16, 2019) around 8:45 pm to Cryans to eat. When we arrived, we saw the place was completely full 100%. The smiling and friendly hostess told us it would be at least a 20 minute wait. We saw the bar was completely full, and all the tables were full. We saw that there was a lot of staff working everywhere. However, we were pleasantly surprised when, after only 5 minutes, we were seated. After we were seated, our server Kelly approached the table (on a full night!!!!) to greet us, almost immediately. She smiled and calmly asked us if we wanted to have any drinks. We ordered and began to look at the menu. Within just a few minutes she returned with our drinks and we were ready to order. She took our order. We ordered the Cheesy Bombs and a salad. and Prime rib dinners. Again, very busy night and we expected a long wait! Boy! We were shocked. Kelly was on top of her game. She brought out our appetizer (which we never had before) and salad in just a few minutes. The bombs were simply hot and delicious with the marinara sauce. She even had time to casually come back with a pleasant smile on her face, to ask us how we were doing. I told her to order us another Cheesey bomb app. I was worried that the app would come out at the same time as our dinner. But she did it again successfully. The app came out just a short time later before the meal. This girl was on fire! We had just finished the app when the Prime rib dinners came out. My wife and I were shocked. We have eaten prime rib from other restaurants in the area. Cryans topped them all with this order! The meat was a nice thicker cut, as well as a nicer larger cut than other restaurant offerings in the area, with minimal fat on it. The food was piping hot. The mixed vegetables and my baked potato complimented the meal tremendously. All of this done to perfection on a very crowded night! Kelly was no stranger to our table or other tables nearby that she took care of. She made us feel welcome in the Cryan home, and did not rush us as she was always available if we needed her. I only wish that other restaurants in the area, such as Harpers Table could offer such a quality service and great food comparable to what Cryans has to offer! No wonder, Cryans was full when we arrived. We topped off the night with the lava cake for my wife and Cheesecake for myself. What a way to end the meal! I would definitely give Cryans as many Stars as possible, if not more over the top, because of their great service and quality of food, and quality of attentive service that we received from this visit on this very busy night. I still can't get over how well they timed our food delivery, and how we never felt like we were waiting, and this allowed my wife and I to have a truly enjoyable night out together. A good place for a burger and a beer. They're known for their pizza, but I've had it a few times and don't love it-sweet sauce and little flavor to the crust. The menu is standard bar fare (wings, burgers, fried snacks), but pretty consistent with good service and (I think) fairly priced. Stick with beer. They have a pretty decent list to choose from and the cocktails are overly sweet. read more

The pretzels were very good. A bit on the salty side. But just rubbed off some salt and they were just fine. I don't get the hype about their pizza. I ordered a personal pie with sausage. It arrives with 1/2 sausage? I did ask the waitress. And it wasn't ordered that way. And the cheese was burnt. Like most burnt things. It doesn't taste great. I guess the craze was that its a thin crust?? Sauce was bland. Cheese was burnt and only 1/2 sausage. Certainly something I'd avoid on a return visit. Beer was good. Cryans is the old Millers Tavern. Easily accessible from 78. The food is awesome. I'm a creature of habit and always seem to get the quesadillas which are full of chicken, cheese and fajita veggies. The crescent rolls stuffed with cheese and pepperoni are a perfect meal before a heart attack. The pizza is the same recipe from millers. At first the pizza was meh, but over the last few years they've stepped it up. Parking isn't great, but they've made some adjustments to accommodate that. The bar is always packed and people seem to always be waiting, but the turnover is pretty quick. read more

We were starving after our sons lax tournament in NJ and decided to stop before returning back to PA and boy did we strike gold. This little tavern was nestled right off of I-78 so it was convenient. They had a great draft and bottle selection and as the menu was mostly bar food, ALL of our selections exceeded our expectations. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu so she was OUTSTANDING! If we ever are cruising through that area again for whatever reason, we'll be sure to stop. read more

Hi Ordered the whole lobster. Had to pick it up and rip it apart with my hands. Best part is that the tail wasn't split and cleaned so you get to see the poop oozing out of the end of the tail we're it met the body. Totally gross. We told the waitress to let the chef know. It's always crowed as many people come for the tavern atmosphere, live music, trivia night and above average tavern type food. This place kept the same style pizza as the prior owner "Miller's Tavern" and is probably in the top 5% of NJ's thin crust pizza's. The owner is friendly and always greeting customers and sometimes even handing you your dinner order. We bring our 2 teenager's here for dinner as this is a family friendly place. We love their wings, pene vodka, and pizza. The french onion soup is also great. The shepard's pie is a great choice if you don't want a full course ribeye or fish and chips. No complaints about the menu. Parking is tough at peek time 6pm-9pm. Service is always great with the server's who are very attentive. read more

This is one of those classic Jersey bars that has changed owners but wisely kept all the pieces of the former glory that made it great. You won't find trendy settings or gastropub speciality creations. What you will find is a large helping of local color, delicious rotating local microbrews and some stick to your ribs meals that will have you saying "Hey. Wanna hit Cryan's?" almost weekly. What does this place do right? Big meaty Wings and ice cold fresh draft beers. As Olaf says "Put 'em together it just makes sense!" Trögs, Riverhorse, and Weyerbacher are some of the best "tap takeovers" they sponsor. If you know beer and you're from Jersey, these are household names. If not, then take a leap of faith and you won't be disappointed. They also really hit the bar snack sweet spot with their other apps that are way too large portioned not to share. What do they do better? Burgers. Thick patties with delicious toppings and juice just dropping down the sides as you pick it up for every bite. What do they do best? PIZZA. Bar pies to die for more accurately. When the tavern was Millers, this is what they were famous for. And the same recipes, ovens and techniques have kept them coming out hot, fresh and consistent. What could use a little improvement? If it isn't grilled, pizza ovened or fried, it can be real hit or miss. Salads tend to be over dressed or soaking wet (which I suppose comforts in the fact that you know the lettuce got washed) Entree specials can be a little on the heavy side and their attempt to lighten things up doesn't work. Oh and no fish. Do. Not. Eat. Fish. Here. Overall I adore this place and I've gone far too many times to tell you about one specific meal. Came here for drinks with my four girlfriends and was having a LOVELY time. Our waitress was an ABSOLUTE DOLL!! Every employee I came into contact with was extremely friendly, kind, & helpful. However, after about an hour & a half into our time; after having a couple rounds of drinks, we were RUDELY interrupted by an employee who asked to see all of our IDs. Keep in mind, he was not our server; nor did he introduce himself or explain why he wanted to check them. It was no issue at all for us to have our IDs checked. We are all of age and had/have nothing to hide nor were we giving any reasons for probable cause to approach us the way he did. Had he approached us differently, explained the situation, whatever it may have been, introduced himself; maybe I wouldn't be writing this review. Not to mention this was a larger, taller, intimidating man approaching a table of 5 females . . . After checking IDs and confirming we are all of age; he proceeds to tell us he "is the Boss" and that he "is just doing his job." His name is Johnny and if you ask me, he is in NO potion to be managing this establishment with that kind of attitude treating CUSTOMERS that way. We wanted to give a local restaurant/pub (That we LOVE) business during these crazy times of COVID-19 2020. He never apologized for interrupting us or for AGAIN explaining what prompted him to ask after so long. Honestly this whole experience DISGUSTED me. Made me never want to come back, which is truly sad. I've been coming here since it was Miller's. My mom would take my brother and I for lunch when we were little. My parents went on dates here. That place has always felt sentimental to me. Until tonight. Unfortunately the new "Boss" or "Owner" doesn't seem like a very "I care about my customers type of guy." What the heck have they done to Miller's Tavern? Growing up in Hunterdon County, you knew about Miller's Tavern. Known for their pizza and rowdy atmosphere. Also know as a great "High School" place, if you catch my drift. (HAHAHA!) I was back in the area and decided to visit and old haunt. I heard it changed ownership but they kept their pizza recipe. Upon entering the bar, we were quickly seated at a table, but we weren't approached by a server for almost 10 minutes. When she finally showed up, she had a really bad attitude, and proceeded to "snap her gum" as she took our drink order. I ordered one of their craft beer selections, a Dale's Pale Ale. When the drinks arrived, I took a sip of mine, and knew right away that this was not a pale ale, but instead a holiday seasonal beer. Our server had disappeared, and we had to get another waiter to get her to our table. We must've have interrupted her instagram posting, because she came back with even more attitude. I told her that the beer was not right, and she argued with me about it. Ok fine, maybe the wrong keg was tapped. But the bartender should know what each beer tastes like. Now if this was a bud light, miller lite, or something like that, I would've just dealt with it. Long story short, the waitress asked if i wanted something else, I ordered a different beer and it was perfect. Our food comes, and the pizza is still amazing!!! The sandwiches were good too! Our server never checked back on the food, or asked if I wanted another drink. To bad, the Goose Island IPA was awesome, and I might have had 1 or 2 more. When it was time to get the check, once again, our server was missing. We then went up to the bar to get the check, and actually paid for the check at the bar with the bartender. There was a table next to us, that had almost the same problems. I'm going to chalk the experience up to a waitress having a bad day.. The pizza is still awesome and that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.....thank god for take out, I highly doubt that I'd stay there to eat again. When it was Miller's....as divey as it was, the service still was better! For the waitress, leave the social networking, attitude, and gum chewing at home before you go to work. I know a lunch shift isn't always ideal for a server, but a job is a job. read more

Oh how I hate to update my last review, but it really seems to be the only way the owners may get some unbiased feedback, so here goes. We loved our last trip to Cryan's. The food was great for pub food, the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was fun. We were excited to go back today for lunch. It was pretty bad. We were so disappointed! Here we were, thinking that we had found a new go-to spot and now we're wondering if it's worth going back. My best guess is that they have different cooks on different days. They may want to reconsider whomever is their Friday afternoon cook! Our appetizer combo wasn't great....the onion rings were incredibly oily and the breading didn't stay on the fried pickles. The burger we ordered medium rare, was very overcooked. The pizza was bland as could be, and it was the same type of pizza (the Wild Irish Pizza) that we ordered last time and loved. The crust on the bottom was almost soggy. My daughter's shepherds pie was the most edible, but even that was average. We left feeling like we spent a whole lot of money, for below average food. I hope they sort out the inconsistency of quality so that we can make this a regular spot of ours. For now, we're not too sure. read more

Cryan's (or Millers, for the locals) has been extremely busy since opening for several reasons. 1. They redid the building and it looks amazing... It truly does. Warm, inviting, and updated. 2. Their tap system keeps the beer ice cold... The coldest beer in town. I feel like if it was 1 degree cooler it would freeze lol. 3. Their food is great... They kept MIller's signature pizza and steamers but use high quality ingredients so it's better than ever. They have some other welcomed additions to the menu which I can't get enough of (Cheesy Bacon Bombs!?!). However, how busy they are is beginning to be their downfall. On nights that are busy (weekends especially) their food quality drops as they try and keep up with the demand, drink wait times go up at the bar, have to park a block away, etc. If the quality of the food and drinks were consistent... I'd give them 5 stars. But until they get there, it's a 4 star experience. read more

Amazed at some of the negative reviews. We had a great meal. Summer is here and that means new adventures and good eats for my son and me. A good buddy told me about Cryan's. Said he loved their pizza and wings. So.... We went lunchtime for pizza and wings. Friendly server. Food came right out. Sausage pizza was thin crust style and delicious. Wings were meaty. Consumed with gusto. A take home grilled chicken sandwich on ciabatta was enjoyed by my wife. Only criticism was the AC was set on frigid and I nearly froze to death. Kept thinking of that Seinfeld episode, "Order a hot dish if it's drafty." We really enjoyed our visit and will be back soon. read more

Pretty great overall. Our server was extremely attentive and sweet. The bus boy was also very helpful! We were seated pretty quickly for a group of 5 and it was pretty busy for a Monday night! We had the best potato skins ever, along with a great wedge salad and the garlic wings. We had the margarita pizza and a plain one as well, which were not as good as the past time we visited but still fairly yummy. We had two flights of draft beers and our favorite was the Yards Scotch Ale. Definitely coming back!! read more

This is about twenty minutes from our house so we wouldn't normally come here. We have driven by a few times and we're always intrigued by the exterior. Cryan's used to be my family's "go to" spot. It's the one place the entire family always agrees to go to. Lately, we've been kind of disappointed in them. Covid has obviously negatively affected pretty much every restaurant in the country, so I'm not holding staff shortages or the fact that they've had a limited menu until just recently against them. The way that I feel treated as a long time regular customer and the organization of the hostess stand are things that have caused me to start going there less. There is always a wait to get in after 5:00 on Friday nights. It was like that even before Covid. We've patiently waited numerous times for a table because we know to expect that. The last 2 times we have gone, we were given a pager and told 20 minutes or whatever it was supposed to be and when more than 30 minutes have passed without a page, I've gone in for an update and found out that they forgot us and sat tables in front of us. They have teenage girls running the hostess stand who obviously are not capable of managing the seating. I was nice about it the first time and gave them a pass and waited double the time that I was originally told. The second time it happened, one of the hostesses said that people were calling ahead on the phone while we were waiting and got put ahead of us (since when have they started doing that?! I've never been given that option) and she also told me that they accidentally sat tables in front of us and then proceeded to say, "Well, what do you want us to do about it? It's not like we can go over to the tables and ask them to leave now." Then told me it would be another 30 minute wait. Needless to say, we left and haven't been back since. (That was about a month ago.) It honestly really upsets me because we've been coming here for years. The bacon bombs and meatball parm pizza is one of my favorite meals in the world. I also enjoy their meatloaf and beer selection. We've always had great servers too. I really hope Cryan's can get their hostess station straightened out because we really miss going there read more

This was my second time to Cryans in 9 months and both visits were the same. Sat at the bar and the older guy behind the bar took about 10 minutes to notice us. The first visit I thought they were just short staffed but it seems the older guy doesn't let anyone else behind the bar which is big and really needs a second bar tender. Should really be someone with some energy and personality. Well the old older guy bartender was just too busy talking to other patrons and selling lottery tickets to even notice we were there until he went rushing past us on his way to the other side of the bar (probably to sell more lottery tickets. That whole lottery ticket thing is pretty tacky and gives the appearance of a convenience store) You would think with an Irish pub there would be at least some Irish music but nothing of the sort.
