While the town of Mammoth Lakes has grown and has many wonderful accommodations, Crystal Crag Lodge is a throwback to a quieter time. If you are looking for a place to stay with more amenities, this is NOT the place for you. If you are looking for the basics and appreciate a more rustic vibe, this IS the place for you. Feel free to bring your creature comforts and expect to disconnect. We've only had positive experiences with the staff. Huge mouse infestation. It was all over Mammoth Lakes. However, management was understanding, after setting up tons of traps in our cabin, and catching 12 mice, they gave us half our refund back. We did not end up staying for our duration, could no longer deal with the mice situation. Hoping that they'll get this issue fixed, we would love to go back, as everything else was wonderful. Cabin was clean and very comfortable and a tranquil, peaceful view of the lake from our balcony. Unfortunately, the mice totally ruined our trip this year in August of 2025. read more

The bed was so uncomfortable, I had two springs jammed in my right side, and it made it almost impossible to sleep. The couch was very, very old and dirty. The broom and dust pan was literally hanging on the wall in the kitchen where we were making food. The outdoor plastic chairs and table were so covered with sap and dirt. Rented "Little Indian" for a week. Left after 5 days. The cabin is about to fall down. Floor is uneven and porch is not well supported. Everything is old and very rustic. Furnace thermostat didn't work. It was clean when we arrived but the dust, from the dirt roads, soon made it a mess. No beach across from the lodge. And at least one mouse lived in the cabin. Talk about a lake loaded with the Oregon Trout! We spent a day at other main lakes but not a single bite, being a saltwater fisherman who has his own spots it was discouraging not getting a bite. Came to Crystal Crag Lodge as we rented for a very reasonable price! Their service was awesome as they walked down to the dock and had everything filled out for us so that the process was quick. We highly recommend them if you are looking to catch some big trout and want to deal with amazing people. We ended up renting 2 days in a row just filling up the cooler to take home back to LA. We rented a 10 passenger pontoon boat for a partial day of fishing. At first we were so pleased with CJ, she was helpful and kind and let us use it an hour earlier than anticipated which we were beyond ready to write an amazing review. Our phones died while out fishing since we had been doing so for 5 hours, when we realized that the sun started going down and one of the people we were with earlier was waving us down we rushed back to the dock. CJ was standing there, hands on waist and while walking up asked for the key. We knew we were in the absolute wrong for being late and started to apologize PROFUSELY. She said she had waited 45 mins for us and she doesn't care if we apologize. She didn't want to hear our sorry. I was ready to offer to pay for the additional time used along with the extra time she had to stay waiting, UNTIL she said to NEVER call them again as we will not be welcomed back. The amount of attitude given in front of young children was absolutely ridiculous. Being upset is understandable but being disrespectful is not. Even with the amount of disrespect given I was still apologizing. One of the guests with us was really upset with how awful she was being as this was not intentional at all. We genuinely felt horrible and again were willing to pay for the inconvenience. Since she kept going on and on about how we were not welcome to be there and to leave immediately the other guest with us told her that was enough. She needed to stop. She wouldn't. She just waved us off and snatched the keys. I'm a VP of Operations and have never spoke to someone that way nor would I tolerate an employee doing so. My family and I have been coming to Mammoth for the past 10+ years to go fishing. Lake Mary is one of our favorite lakes to fish, and I can say we've had the best boat rental experience in all of the past 10 years renting from Crystal Crag Lodge. Not only was the rate super reasonable, but they went above and beyond in their service. I was afraid that since the road was closed that we'd have to time the trolley to take us up to the lake. The cabin I stayed at was Crystal, it had a full kitchen, fireplace and bathroom with a shower. The nice thing about Crystal is that it had it's own driveway. Some of the other cabins share a driveway. The best thing about Crystal Crag Lodge is the view. You step outside on to your private patio and just soak in the view. You should also be aware that there are bears around. One came down to investigate as I was BBQing, he must have smelled the grill and wanted to crash the party. He was about 20 feet away, but high tailed it up the hill as soon as I pulled my camera out. I guess he was camera shy. Just got back home after spending 7 wonderful nights in Cabin "George " A 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom rustic cabin. This cabin had the most incredible view of Lake Mary. We loved our real wood burning fireplace. (We were brought all the wood we needed by the most incredible friendly staff) I loved our cute little kitchen, which was really well stocked with all the pans, utensils, etc. That you would need. Had a great Weber Barbecue on our deck. I planned and packed most of our food for the week. Last night had a Barbecue with steak and corn on the cob. We did want to go into town one night to have pizza. We asked the manager C.J., and she referred us to a great restaurant with great pizza. Crystal Crag Lodge is a true gem. It's rustic, a true cabin experience. Very clean, clean linens and towels. The staff bend over backwards to help all their guests to feel right at home. We booked another week stay for June 2019! That's how much we enjoyed ourselves. My husband and myself with our small dog. I have stayed here before about 25 years ago. So, this was not my first time there. My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend for his birthday get-a-way and we had an absolute blast! CJ at the front desk was very helpful while I was making the reservation. The cabin is equipped as described so pay attention to their list of items and DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE BEANS! We stayed in one of the newer cabins that is walking distance to the lake for great fishing! We caught 4 fish while we were there, one from the shore and 3 from one of their motor boast we rented for the day! The motor boat had a bit of a trick to them to get them to work, but we managed okay. I would totally recommend staying here to fish at the lake! read more

First, let me say my husband and I have worked at the Lodge for the past three summers. We travel all the way from NE Tennessee just to be able to spend our summers at such an awesome place. This review may be a bit biased for that reason, but I will share what I know for a fact to be true. Derek (owner) and CJ (manager) are caring and hard working individuals who go above and beyond when it comes to customer service and consistently making improvements to the property and cabins. Yes, the cabins are old, but they are clean, well stocked, comfortable and provide all the necessities, plus convenient "extras" such as coffee filters, oven mitts, dish towels, bath soap, dish soap, grills, fire starters, etc. We all take great pride in providing a relaxing and comfortable getaway for our guests, doing our best to ensure a memorable visit to Lake Mary. My husband and I enjoyed Crystal cabin for 5 days. Extremely nice staff here! The view can't be beat from this cabin but there are 33 steps so be prepared. The kitchen has most utensils you need including coffee filters, sponge, dishwashing liquid paper towels pots pans...etc. our only complaint was the smoke from the fireplace. My husband advised them of this. The other complaint would be the electrical plates. They're loose so it's hard to charge up your phone at times. Bring an extension plug if you can. Came out the second week of August 2015. The place was hopping with kids, dads and moms. We stayed at the twin cabin and it was clean and well kept. All in all we had a great time. If you're looking for modern amenities TV, blow dryer, AC,wi-Fi etc. etc. this isn't the place for you. Because they don't have any of these amenities. read more

Such a great place. Best spot/view on the lake. There are a bunch of cabins so you can book to suit your party/purposes. It's a real cabin experience so don't expect luxury hotel accommodations, but I think all the cabins have a small porch and a BBQ so you can enjoy your own space. The whole place is dog friendly too, which is a huge plus for my family. The staff are all very responsive and accommodating. Need recommendations for day trips, hikes, bike routes, restaurants, or just want a boat to paddle around for the day? They'll cover you. Definitely rustic and isolated next to a lovely lake. For fisher folk it's super. For others, well it's about time to start investing back into the facility. Appliances are sketchy, lamps and lighting pretty grim. Bathrooms need new vanities and overall the place needs a refresher. Otherwise, the prices are pushing too high for value delivered. read more

Crystal Crag is the perfect answer for my husband and I, who no longer want to sleep in a tent, use a pit toilet, cook on a Coleman stove, and (maybe) shower in questionable facilities. I love waking up to a gorgeous view of the mountains and Lake Mary. The cabins are rustic, but clean and comfortable. Our kitchen had a nice microwave, a new toaster and coffee maker, a sparkling clean refrigerator and stove, and more than enough pots, pans, dishes, and glasses to accommodate our needs. It's okay to be away from the TV for awhile, although my husband brought a hot spot so he could access the Internet for work. We had excellent cell reception, as well. But best of all, Crystal Crag is pet friendly. Our two large, goofy, city dogs had the time of their lives, watching Blue Jays and chipmunks. Unfortunately, we had to leave a day earlier than we planned. CJ offered to try to rent our cabin for tonight, and she did! She sent an email even before we arrived home stating that she credited our card for the cost of tonight. We appreciate her honesty and consideration - how would we have known if the cabin was rented? This was our third stay at Crystal Crag, each time in a different cabin. What a gem! Rates in Mammoth are all over the board...this place falls somewhere in the middle. The cabins were nice and cabiny, the grounds were very well kept and I can't say enough about the staff..by far the nicest, most accommodating, genuinely happy and neat people. Full view of the lake only steps away. Super dog friendly...(I got half way home and realized I left a bag of dog poo by the stairs and feel just awful..so sorry!!) Cell service but no wi-fi. This is a housekeeping cabin and as long as you understand what that means, you won't be disappointed. This is also a pet friendly lodge, which is why we decided to stay here during our 4-day getaway. It was adequate for us and the location is spectacular. The atmosphere is laid back and it is the perfect place to really get away. There are no TVs or wifi. Wireless reception is weak so expect to really be removed from it all and simply enjoy nature. The property is lake front and all cabins have a lake view. It is so peaceful. There have been bear sightings in the premises and one guest actually saw one while she was walking her dog. So be careful during early morning or evening strolls in the woods. There's so much to do during the day--boating, fishing, hiking, bike trails aplenty and the town is so quaint. And lots of lakes around. And remember that you'll be at high altitude -- about 9,000 feet, so don't push yourself too hard. read more

These are a bit pricey but the view is well worth it. If you are expecting a Four Seasons type room this is not for you. This is a cabin with the bare essentials. It is so quaint and quiet and the views of Lake Mary are just amazing. The bedroom faces the lake, it makes for a great way to wake up in the morning. Book in advance they fill up pretty fast. My husband, our dog and I just came home from a two week stay. We had to book a year in advance. We stayed in a cabin called Mamie, one bedroom, one bath, kitchen, fireplace, on the lake. We enjoyed it very, very much. The staff is attentive and conscientious. The cabins are clean, appropriately (not lavishly) stocked, well cared for and the mattress was very comfortable (in Mamie). We fished for trout in the lake and grilled them on the B-B-Q on the front deck overlooking the lake. The setting is serene and like growing up in the 50's. This is a cabin in the mountains, not a hotel. They honestly describe themselves as a notch above camping and below a hotel. (At least a notch below hotel) Comfortable beds, sheets, blankets. A heater and fireplace are there. Bring your own fav pillows. Bring your own fav cooking items, like your Japanese knives and your wok. It's 10 degrees colder than in town so bring warmer clothing than you would have thought. Not great cell coverage but the personal hotspot with a USB cable worked acceptably. The place is heaven, if you ask me. Downside, it's right on the little mountain road that circles the lake so America's big trucks' show is all there in all their finery. Up there fishin. But you can hear a pin drop after sunset and it's not a major thorougfare by any means. Families come up year after year, generation upon generation. If you want to see Bald headed eagles, fox, deer, bears, chipmunks, seagulls, and trout, right from on your deck, come up. Rough it. Oh yeah, bring your bikes, you ride down the mountain and a free trolley takes you back up to your front door. Ha! read more
