First time here and was satisfied with the whole experience from the moment I walk into the salon and even after I walk out. I got a whole hair dye, hair treatment, eyebrow wax, and upper lip wax. My hair grow out, never dye before, and it was dark and thick. Crystal grand me the exact color that I wanted and it was nice and balanced. I've found my go-to salon. Crystal was quite thorough as she took her time to make sure my hair looked great. She was careful when trimming the sides and went back over it several times to make sure she didn't miss a spot. After I was done she noticed I didn't have an umbrella or rain coat, so she kindly grabbed an umbrella and walked me to my car. Talk about full service! They take walk-ins, but I recommend calling ahead anyway. read more

I have been a long time customer of Crystal's before she opened her own shop. Initially Crystal's worked within a few blocks from my home. It wasn't the closeness to my home the reason I went to her for my hair cuts, it was her talent, personality and the way she personally treated me every time I sat in her chair. Even though her new salon is now miles away from my home, I am still one of her regular customer and willing drive to her new location for a first class hair cut, her lovely personality, the way she accommodates her customers on a moment's notice. I have gotten hair cuts from Crystal several times and liked her. She can be bit pushy with sales pitch but I thought she was talented with the hair cutting. So I went to get touch up hair dye job for my grown out root. I am getting married this weekend and wanted to make sure my root doesn't show. She told me she can do 85% of matching job and it would be better to dye the whole hair. I thought she was getting pushy with dying the whole hair to make money and so I said 85% is fine. End result? It was nothing close to 85%. I am an Asian and has thick black hair and all she had to do was lighten it up a bit to match, but it looked like my root has grown more out with the dye job she did. Not only that, the smell from the dye was so stronger, that I felt nauseous and had to ask her to open the back door for air ventilation. The dye also stained my skin especially around my forehead and I had to tell her that which Crystal responded, "It's your baby hair!!!" and then adjusted her glasses and said "oh.. ya little bit, let me remove it" when I told her that there was still stained left on my forehead she got upset and said "I am going to cut off your babyhair!" WHAT? I was furious! She told me to give her only $25 instead of $45 for the hair job because she told me that it was going to be 85% job of matching my hair. I got fed up arguing with her and paid and left. Little did I know I would end up in ER little bit over 30 hrs later. I had an allergic reaction to the cheap dye that she used on my head that I woke up with rash and intense itchiness that was unbearable all over my body. I had no idea it was from a hair dye so I went to ER. I would not go there or recommend anyone to go there. Crystal is argumentative, greedy and UNSAFE! read more

Crystal has been cutting my hair for several years now and I was thrilled when she opened her own salon. Not only is her new place closer to where I live, but it's a great space. I'll admit that as a kid I hated getting my haircut, but now it's a delight to pay her a visit. Who knew that sitting in the barber chair could be so fun? It is hard to find someone who knows how to cut thick, wavy/curly hair. Hard. I honestly had not had a "wow, I'm in love with my hair" moment until I had someone cut my hair using the deva cut method. The only downside to those cuts is the cost. Really? I have to pay that much for someone to cut my hair? I only did it once and was afraid to go to anyone else. It started to get way too long and my split ends were out of control...during this time I also became a student and was unemployed. A few days ago I just couldn't take my hair anymore so I got on yelp to see what my options were. Typed in '$' and up pops Crystals Salon. I read the reviews...can it really be true? This many positive reviews and 25 bucks? So I booked an appointment. I'm hesitant to continue because I'm afraid I will not be able to see her until next year dude to a booked schedule... Shoot, she deserves this...here we go... Crystal is absolutely pleasant. When I sat down in her chair she gave me the breakdown on pricing which I really appreciated-no one likes surprises. She asked me what I wanted, so I told her, but I also asked for her help too...bangs/no bangs...length, etc. She's good-she went over the shape of my face and what would compliment it. She chats it up while washing your hair, etc, but when it came time for the cut, she just focused only on my hair-no chatting. She is meticulous and strives for perfection. I appreciated that as well because lets face it, when someone is chatting away while you are in their chair, you more often than not get a bad haircut or too much taken off. Today I went to my old barbershop on Mac Arthur and saw that they were closed so I took a chance with this hair salon and im not going back to my old barbershop. Best haircut I have ever had! I have really curly hair and needed a haircut badly. My ends were damaged, broken and split. My hair had turned a strange orangey red color from breakage. I looked everywhere but either no one was open, had no appointments or extremely expensive. I found Crystal's salon on yelp and after reading the reviews I thought I would give this place a chance. I called to see if they had any availability and she said be here in 10 min! I was so happy but also so nervous. For anyone who has curly hair you know the struggle of finding someone that can cut your hair well. I arrived and was greeted by Crystal and her pup Happy. She was so welcoming and kind and explained everything she was going to do. She washed my hair, put in a special product and then began to cut. She checked in with me throughout the haircut and I am soooo happy with outcome! I left with one of the best haircuts I have ever had AND a new hair product. My hair was looking drab, dry, and out of control. The last cut/style that I got a few months ago was terrible. Read the reviews in Yelp, and Crystal's salon is only a couple of miles from where I live, so called and she had an opening. When I arrived I had second thoughts because the salon seems to be connected to a private home. But I rang the bell, and down came Crystal from her adjacent house. She listened to me, but made several suggestions, gave me examples in her magazines, and then went to work. She took her time with the cut, and carefully layered my hair, giving it much more body and shape. After the cut, she styled it with a blow dry, consulting with me as she went along. I just came back from crystals salon and I am completely in love! My hair color and cut took 3 hours but nobody else was in the shop. It is the cutest salon I have ever encountered! Crystal and her husband were extremely kind and they did a great job with my horribly bleached, damaged, and tangly hair. I had yellow patches all over and so many different colors in my hair it was horrible but crystal fixed me right up. I called ahead to make sure she was there which I highly recommend people to do. She was very detailed and precise with the cut as well. I could really tell how passionate she was about hair styling and making sure she did a superb job and she did just as she strived for. I don't get my hair cut often (last time was 5 years ago), but it was past time and so I went looking for an excellent and reasonably price salon. Crystal's is just that place! Tin was my stylist and he took the time to ask me about my hair routine and what I might want for length and style by the time I was done. He was friendly and gave a great wash and cut. There's the usual offer of style and product afterwards, but they weren't pushy at all. They have a little dog, Happy, that barked when I came in and left, but didn't actually come into the salon. While I was there, several regulars stopped by for different services. This is clearly a popular salon in the neighborhood. Wow! Great discovery. Tin spent a lot of time and care on my haircut. He took the time to understand what I want. He even straightened my hair afterward at no charge, to double check that it was even. (My hair is curly.) I normally don't straighten it, but thought it was fun to have a different style. It was nearly an hour and a half of his time. I appreciated how much care he put into the cut. I love how it turned out. I'm growing it out, so Tin helped me make a plan of action. Been a customer of Crystal and Tin for over 4 yrs, since their shop opened and been in business. I followed Crystal from her previous workplace to her present shop, because she does excellent work !! I never had any complaint. They use quality hair products, not cheap stuffs that will damage your hairs, or like some stingy hair salon owners whose owners and stylists use small amount, or are prohibited to use expensive stuffs on customer's hairs, and failed to add "lasting coloring sealant" to hair color, so your color will last longer between next coloring and shampooing. Crystal's Salon are NOT cheapskates like other salons in what they use on your hair !!! Crystal does excellent hair coloring, massage, makeup, and waxing. I had used all of these services over the years !! I will continue to go there and refuse to use anyone else. Believe me, their prices are fair, and you will get quality results. If anyone writes negative review of them, it is because that customer didn't make any prior appointment beforehand as in "Sexy", and "Mimi L of Alameda" whom Tin alleged he never cut her hair, or even had her listed on any of his appointment books. I believe him, because Tin and Crystal are people with strong work ethics, high social and moral values. Once you get to know them, you will repeatedly come back. Found Crystal and Tin on Yelp. At first I was a bit hesitant to go since there were only 5 star reviews, but since it was close to home and inexpensive, I figured what the heck, support my fellow Oaklanders. I'm glad with my decision because it turns out that Crystal is a real professional along with Tin. I had really long hair and I am donating to Locks of Love so they rubber banded it and even put it in a zip lock without complaint. Tin proceeded to give me a pretty good cut, a little too short in the bang area but it'll grow, for only $20. I also ventured to dye my hair, which I never do, to a light shade of brown and it came out real nice. I'm still getting used to it but my husband surprisingly liked it a lot. He had a friend who did hair and felt that Crystal really knew what she was doing and contoured the cut to my face. Will definitely go back especially since I'm going to have to maintain the color. I have to give bonus points also because they were really sweet to my daughter, offered her juice and treats and let us hang out inside when we were waiting for our ride.
