The amount of good this place and the owner Jodi does here for the local community - especially the…read moredie hard dedicated golf purists and enthusiasts - simply can't be overstated. When all the other driving ranges or clubs in the area are either private or closed or too expensive, this facility is a true local legend! Always open, even in the rain or snow, year round, with heated overhead bays if you need - and real grass practice area, or even dedicated short game options as well, for serious practitioners during the season. None of the fancy clubs in the area can compare despite their pedigrees. Add to that an actually quality restaurant, pickle ball soon for the more recreational experience, and not even to mention the most friendly and supportive team of maintenance and operating personnel including the owner Jodi who is the very model of small business excellence, and no matter your appetite for activity, you can't go wrong here. I rarely leave reviews, or reviews this long, but I could go on for paragraphs about how truly invaluable a hub of passion and performance this place has been for me and innumerable other local very high level (but budgeted) golfers (all of whom, if you happen to be learning or improving, most likely are so friendly or kind that they'll probably give you free lessons while you're practicing if you ask). It's only a matter of time before the first famous PGA or Korn Ferry or just YouTube professional golfers arise from this place, one of the best kept (though maybe not anymore ha) golf secrets of all Central Connecticut, maybe the whole state. PS. I saw some other folks mentioned a few topics to which I noticed the early lights out seem to have been fixed, and now are on motion detectors, so even if you're the only one there, they go on for the section of driving range you're using, and there seem to be totally new balls put into rotation last year - pretty awesome!

I stumbled across Hunter. The course is in excellent shape. The fairways were maybe a little soft from the rain but thick and lush. Some of the greens were faster than others, but that's golf. Unfortunately, I played about as poorly as I have in the year since I took the game back up, but I can hardly blame that on Hunter. Overall my experience was alright. They use 3Trak software for the launch monitor and system. It appears to be semi-accurate. Biggest issues I had was a ball that was perfectly still not moving would be registered as a hit. So good thing we had mulligans on to reset this or it would tank your score during a 9/18 hole play through. The only issue I had with the screen/ball net is there was a hole right in the center of the screen which also caused the screen to wrinkle up due to the hole. This should really be replaced. The overall cost is about the same for any other simulator in the area. 4/5

Ownership has switched hands, and I believe I had a group on both times I went, if you're looking to save a few bucks. My only complaint (at all) would be that it was a little bit warmer than I would've liked, especially once you're moving around and actually doing any sort of activity. Now that that's over, let's talk about the good parts! The axe throwing is super fun, and we all enjoyed it after learning about the rules and safety tips then learning how to hold the axe correctly and throw it, and we continued to get pointers and help as needed if we were struggling throughout our allotted time. All of the stuff we encountered were friendly and personable. One great thing that we learned is a newer offering is that the pool tables, darts, and cornhole is now free! As in, pop in and buy a beer or a hard seltzer for a drink after a rough workday and relax and unwind with free activities in a clean indoor space! We will definitely be returning to take advantage because while I LOVE axe throwing, it could get expensive to do every week. The pizza place in there is different than it was the first time we went. And, it was actually not open when we went at 1 PM on a Saturday, which was fine for us because we had already eaten and had dinner plans later so we were not there for food. Our understanding is that it's a one-man show so there may only be pizza/the restaurant open during busy hours, as opposed to every time Montana Nights is open. Something to keep in mind if you're thinking about eating while visiting.

But two and a half days ago, they contacted us to cancel because they had closed their doors for good. We didn't want to cancel the event, so what were we to do? Well, Montana Nights came to our rescue and 20 of us had a blast. Our Guardian Angel was manager Carolyn, who worked in a slot for our group, arranged an instructor, pizza and sandwiches from Square Peg, and drink tickets from their bar (beer and axes, what could go wrong?). Anyway, we had a freaking blast at Montana Nights. Our instructor Kyle was great. He gave us a safety talk, demonstrated one hand and two hand throwing techniques, and broke us into two teams for some axe flinging fun. We threw at a conventional bulls eye target, an unconventional bulls eye target where the center moved around, and Tic Tac Toe and Connect Four variations. I threw ten axes in warm ups, and then 20 axes in two ten-frame 4-person team contests. I stuck one out of ten in the warm ups, just one in Game #1, but improved significantly by sticking 4 in the second game. I even had a center Bulls Eye!! By the way, the food from Square Peg was great - lots of different pizzas, grinders cut into fours, and a big salad. Thank you Carolyn and Kyle for saving our event. It was a charity collection event where our members donated new clothing, toys, and household supplies for Madonna House in Norwich, CT. I would love to see Yelp incorporate more of some sort of charity collections at our events. Sort of a "Pay It Forward" philosophy. Everyone can afford to bring a few cans of soup or tuna to donate to a group that needs them.

I'm thrilled that they've taken over LGC and are working hard to make it a first-class practice center. The indoor simulator gives you the opportunity to practice year-round, and the mini-golf course makes for a fun family outing. Jo provides excellent customer service, and if you need a lesson, Marty is a PGA professional instructor. Other than playing on the course, Litchfield Golf Center provides the next-best golfing experience.

This year's…read morefirst course was Toll Gate Golf and it was somewhat forgettable... give me a moment while I attempt to remember. Okay, here we go... It was not a very large course, as every hole was stationed immediately right next to another and the average par was about 2. It seemed as though while they have a good chunk of land for the driving range, they took about 20 yds by 5 yards of land and said, "alright let's turn this aisle into a mini-golf course". I will say though, that the green was in great condition. There were no 'natural' obstacles (dead squirrels, bugs, twigs large leaves, etc.), no tears on the green, therefore pretty much leaving us to our own putting vices! You can grab your ball on the 18th hole, so if you get there early enough with a big group of people (5+) you can play out of order and not worry about losing your ball on the 18th. Anyway, I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for some mini-golf action, although there are better options about 35 minutes west of here. But since the entire course is right in front of you, I think it's a great course for families that need to have a close eye on their children.

I used a hodgepodge of my dad's clubs and my uncle's. The TaylorMade driver was straight as an arrow and hit straight and long where I wanted it. The chipping in this thick New England grass (rough) was another story. I think TEE BOXES were in pretty good shape. The CARTS have nice navigations systems. The course is a bit dry for early October so clearly, they did not see enough rain this year. Some fairways were a little chewy/patchy. The GREENS were in very nice shape. I had a better day there excluding that they were as fast as California which I did not anticipate but should have given the drier conditions. This is the best short course in this area and well beyond with some legit challenging holes and a diverse layout with sloping hills. Nothing boring to speak of my friends. The CLUBHOUSE is beautiful, and dad says the food keeps getting better and better.
