As I pull into the parking lot at Cubby's Dog Park, my dog Lola starts to whimper with excitement. She loves coming to this park to meet other canines. There are two separate parks. One for small dogs and one for large dogs, Lola is a big girl so she gets to play in the spacious large dog park. The park has shaded bench seats for owners to sit. However, I walk the field to keep an eye on my girl. There are two water fountains for the dogs and poo bags are also provided. Unfortunately there are still dog owners who don't pick up after their pets. So watch your step. The field is covered with small bark so probably a good idea to wear closed toe shoes. This park is seriously the cleanest dog park I've been to! It's mostly new wood chips and there is a separate small and large dog side. There's also a little gated section in between before entering the dog park so dogs won't be able to escape. The owners are all very cognizant of their dogs and picking up after them. There's fresh water for dogs to drink from and a hose. Plenty of parking is available and it's right off the 680. Thankfully we live walking distance from here! My puppy has such much fun meeting all the dogs and puppies, she absolutely is tired out after an hour of playtime and she's not too dirty from the wood chips! Really good size park for large and small dogs. We went around 3 in afternoon and there were a few dogs but as we get closer to 5pm, many more came! Fun park for the dogs and there is a trail by the park which you can take your dog for a walk first before or after the park. Good size parking lot of about 20-30 cars. read more

My sister frequents this location and wanted our pups to get together. This is a great dog park with some shaded spots for both humans and dogs. There is a small and large dog area. I like that it's not dirt but bark so mornings my pup doesn't get crazy muddy. Only negative is the gps to this location. Just know when you turn before/or after crossing the bridge (depending on your direction) it's the structure on your right with some rooftop buildings. read more

A Clean and well-maintained dog park. We adopted a small dog 4 months ago. He LOVES humans, but dogs (especially the bigger ones), not so much. So we enjoy the separate small and big dog spaces to help him with his social skills, or lack therof. He likes watching the big dogs through the fence and is starting to open up a little with the small dogs. Owners we have met so far are very friendly. read more

It's ok. I like the size of the large dog park but the small dog park is really just space. No obstacles or anything like that. I also don't love that it's shaved bark instead of something else which makes my dog really dusty after playing. Worth checking out, I just like other parks better than this one. Aww memories! I came here with my husky puppy to get his energy out before heading to Wente with a friend. He had a blast!! There was a small and large dog park, filled with fun dogs and their owners. (One weird owner towards the end started screaming at her dogs, but by then we were on our way out.) The floor is covered in wood chips. It's spacious for dogs that want to play fetch and those that want to run around and wrestle. There's even agility courses in the back corner. Not all parks have poop bags and water stations, but this one does, thankfully. Plenty of parking since it's a suburban park. I never come out to this part of the Bay Area so appreciate taking my dog to bigger spaces than what's in San Francisco. Overall positive experience! While other Yelpers complain about specific dogs, everyone seemed like responsible dog owners. I'd come back again. read more

It has wood chips instead of grass, so dogs don't get too dirty by coming here There are 2 parks here, people normally bring their dogs to the bigger one (all dogs already). There's also a small dog area too but rarely is anyone there. :-( I live really close by here so I always bring my maltipoo here, most of the big dogs are friendly to my little dog. If you have a small dog, please come to this park so my dog can play with yours!!! read more

Really nice dog park in Pleasanton. The surface is pressure-treated tan bark, which is great when it's been raining and your usual doggy Disneyland (Point Isabel in Richmond) is a soggy Disneyland... We met up here with some friends who live nearby. There were agility obstacles, very cool. A fair amount of space for dogs to run around, and owners were mostly responsible. Look, if you're going to bring a dog somewhere, keep an eye on your pooch. If it starts to bully other dogs, you need to step in. There was one large black German shepherd (a larger version of our shepherd mix) who was giving smaller dogs grief. A malinois puppy was giving the big guy what for--this was hilarious. As long as the owners are being good, this is a lovely spot for pups. read more

Amazing new park that opened today, November 5th, with great amenities for all dogs. They have a separate off leash play area for small dogs and one for all dogs. The play area is covered in a special bark that does not splinter, so it is safe for the pups. They have plenty of seating and covered areas for humans. There are also dog water fountains that the dogs can use without the assistance of their humans. The all-dog play area has gymnastics equipment for the pups to play on. There is so much space for the dogs to run around, the park sits on 1.5 acres of land. It's located at the staging area of the Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail. There is a 4hr parking lot that can be used for the trail or the dog park. The sweetest thing is that the park is named for the first K9 officer of Pleasanton and is situated in the same area that Cubby used to train. This is a great new addition to our town! read more

Brand new park with a very well thought out design. There are two areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs, but there is a sign on the entrance to the large dog side indicating all dogs are welcome in the large dog area, which is a nice touch and should mean people with small dogs (like me!) won't get disapproving glances from people because we are on the "wrong" side. The footing in the enclosures is wood chips which has a nice smell now because they are fresh. My only concern would be there is the possibility of a strong urine smell in the summer. However, this footing will be great on rainy days because dogs can't get muddy! There are plenty of young trees which will provide ample shade when they mature, and there are three covered concrete areas with benches and tables for owners who want to hang out and socialize while their dogs play. There are also plenty of benches for owners who may prefer to be by themselves. There are some cool agility obstacles in the large dog side, which is a cool feature that I've never seen in a dog park before. I also appreciate the entrances each have two sides so that people and dogs entering and exiting don't have to get tangled up. As long as owners are responsible and clean up after their dogs, I think this will be a great park! I also love that it was named after the city of Pleasanton's first canine police officer. :-) read more

I love this dog park, one of the biggest fenced enclosures in the entire East Bay. Most of the regulars have well behaved dogs and is a great place for me and my GSD as she can play with other large dogs. The park is entirely wood shavings, so I'm not too enthusiastic over that but it hasnt caused us any problems yet. What I hate which doesnt necessarily have to do with the park is the fact that there is always one person who has to bring a ball. My dog loves to play ball, almost obsessively to the point where she wont play with other dogs (lowkey resource guarding) and after constantly having to go to the other corner of the park to fetch my dog from the one owner who is playing ball with 3/20 dogs in the park, the owner just does not get the message. I get it, it's a free park where you can play with your dog however you like, but for the sake of other owners it would be great for once if I could bring my dog so she can have quality time with other dogs without being distracted by your toy. read more

I visit Cubby's twice a day with my dog and we love it! Here are some pointers if it's your first time visiting. TWO gates for a reason. PLEASE remove the leash from your dog before opening the 2nd gate. This is for YOUR dog's safety. MONITOR your dog while they're in the park. This ensures you'll be able to pick up after them when they poop. Others will let you know if you happen to not see it happening. PLEASE don't bring aggressive dogs to Cubby's. Other owners will ask you to leave if there are numerous encounters. Don't be offended if this happens. REMINDER this is a park for DOGS. It's not safe to bring your toddlers and let them walk around. Nor, is it okay to let them play in the wood chips where dogs pee/poo. ENJOY watching your dog having a good time with others! In general I like the park and some of the features. Many people complain about the bark but I think its fine..could be worse. I wish there were a porta potty for the park users. The obstacle course is a nice feature to stimulate and improve the relationship and trust between owner and pooch. My main issue is two fold, all related to one cause...unaware owners! 1: Owners chit chat and play on their phone and don't see their dogs pooping all over the place, for others to step in and pick up for them. I guess that means " if I didn't see it, it didn't happen??" 2: Similar scenario, but larger dogs are being aggressive and the owners are nowhere around and busy elsewhere in the dog park. Today I confronted an owner of a large German Sheppard for exactly this and he took offense. He was busy chatting and took more offense to the fact that I brought his dog's aggressiveness to his attention than to the fact t was happening! My point: While you may feel that you dog is only playing and just a big, gentle giant...be in close proximity to your dog to at least put owners at ease and make them aware you're there and monitoring. You know your dog better than anyone, we don't. If dog parks like this are to be a safe place to share and play we have to do more than just show up and disengage. My dog has been hurt here before by larger dogs and again, the owners (not all of them though) are nowhere around!? I highly respect and admire the dog owners that clean up after their dog and actually monitor and train their dog. Dog socializing is absolutely important but it takes some amount of human support and intervention...this isn't necessarily a hands-off sport. read more

This is an awesome dog park!! We were in town for the weekend visiting family and needed a place to take our dogs. We heard about this new dog park and wanted to check it out. We got there and there were so many big dogs! It was great! The fence is nice and clean, had wood chips as ground covering, they had little obstacles the dogs could play on, large enough they could actually stretch their legs, and plenty of doggie bags to use. Also has beautiful views. We will be back whenever we come back to Pleasanton. read more

Nice park, clean with cedar chips. But we had our car broken into twice, called the police & were told they were aware of the theft problem. We came back after several months & were disappointed to see no cameras, no "lock your car/take your valuables" signage. But suddenly there's plenty of signs announcing a $100 fine for off-leash dogs on the adjacent Marilyn Kane trail. What used to make for a fun dog adventure & lunch in downtown Pleasanton is just useless rules & worry about our vehicle's safety. read more

Overall, a great park! Love the bark surface because there is NO MUD on rainy/wet days. The owners and dogs are generally pretty well-behaved, but... have had a few issues with some irresponsible dogwalkers who bring more dogs than they can handle (or pickup their poop!)...and there's one older guy who brings an aggressive German Shepherd who has attacked multiple dogs. But more than the dog, the owner is an irresponsible buffoon who refuses to correct his dog or believe he has any aggression problems. ** NOTE: For anyone reading this whose dog has been attacked by this shepherd, please contact me directly as I have the owner's name and any attacks should be reported. We've already reported him, so hopefully the problem will be resolved soon. read more

The park itself is very nice, I enjoyed bringing my dog here for the times I came. Unfortunately my dog was attacked while at the park one evening for maybe 3 minutes before a golden retriever and Saint Bernard were on top of my dog with her crying. The owners did not run over and grab their dogs like I hoped they would've. My brother in the process of taking the dogs off of mine had been bit. The owners leashed their dogs for a minute before letting them off leash again. It's very sad to me that the owners did not care about what their dogs just did and continued to let them run free after attacking mine. I've decided to no longer go to this park because of this incident. I've witnessed many owners not watching their dogs while they are there which to me is not good ownership. Please keep an eye on your dogs and make sure they are behaving correctly. read more

This is great large dog park that i go to semi-frequently. My doggie Rose loves it. Shes a big girl and there's plenty of space to run her. However, I have to agree with what several other reviewers have stated: there are people who have no concern what their dog does once they're unleashed. Just last week, my roommate and I had to physically pull a German Shepherd off of our dog, while the other owner casually chatted at the entrance, completely ignoring our screams for help. If everyone could be mindful and take responsibility for their animal I would have no complaints. read more

Great dog park! This dog park has two separate sections, one for small dogs and one for all dogs. Lots of "furiends" to visit with, as well as humans. Clean areas with water spouts and bowls. Also, lots of seating and tables for spectators. Love this park especially because of wood chip ground cover. Since purchasing a puppy in May, I have been to this dog park every other day. I love this park. I have met really informed owners and their dogs are for the most part well behaved. I own a Pitt/Bulldog mix who is very friendly. They have welcomed him into their groups as he plays well, which I appreciate. The physical facility is clean and well kept. It could use an extra washing down and there are those owners who don't watch their dog and their waste gets left there. I appreciate the shade and the fresh water. I'm a fan! read more

We love this park. We come from Tracy just to bring our baby pup to play. It has been a routine field trip for him.

I like alot of things about this dog park. However I seem to be having trouble in communicating a problem even though I have called, written and talked in person to maintenance people as I was leaving. In fact they said they were there to check on the issue. I took a large trash bag and tied the fence together where it was not correctly closed. Someone with a key to the lock needs to unlock the upright pipe, lift it, and place it in the larger pipe hole in the ground. This is what it is intended to do and is simple. Otherwise the two parts of the fence separate with pressure or wind and the small dogs and large dogs mix. Often this is no problem however there are times it could result in a serious injury and total surprise to owners. Simple fix. Do need key. Please. Sorry but I have tried other means to contact. read more

The location is great, the view is beautiful and love the bark especially on wet days. But this dog park has many irresponsible owners that stand around chatting or on their phones not paying attention. I have stepped in dog crap the last 4 times I have been here! One sweet woman the other day went around the whole park with poop bags and picked up all the land mines that have been left by people who didn't care or "didn't see". My dogs getting socialization is very important but I might limit the times I come to this park.... it's such a nice park, please keep it clean! read more

Great location, huge area, lovely layout...but, I'm sorry, the wood chips are NOT cool. I found plenty of pointed ends that could easily impale a paw. It boggles my mind that 300K was spent and they can't spring for grass and use recycled water to irrigate. Or even better, artificial turf specifically designed for dog parks. Dublin, Livermore, and Danville all manage to have lovely grass parks, which is where I will continue to go I guess : ( read more

I take my dog to Cubby's Dog Park almost everyday; my dog really loves it. Several things I'd like to see happen is to expand the parking lot, add bathrooms, and lights for evening play. Hopefully as the city see's how much usage is actually at this dog park changes will happen. read more

The physical park is great but I won't go back. I'm not a huge fan of dog parks but wanted to give it one more shot. Walked up to the gate and someone let their dog poop without picking it up. Almost stepped in it. Walked inside the gate and another pile of poop someone hadn't picked up. Three pit bulls arrived at the same time and one was immediately aggressive toward another dog. My dog was bothered by another dog and the owner sat on a bench and did nothing. After their initial sniffing my dog was done and moved on. The dog continued to follow mine and wouldn't leave him alone. It was really bothering my dog who is really laid back. His fur was standing up and he finally showed his teeth to the other dog after being harassed enough times. I was amazed at the owner. I'm glad others are enjoying it but it's not for me. I think the disrespect of owners not cleaning up after themselves was just too much. Such a nice place for people to be given to enjoy not to keep it clean. read more
