I'm just amazed to see the new generation trying to get over on the customer. Wow. Like the customer is fucking brain dead and "wouldn't know the difference" Yeah right I bought six Sea Shells. A very delicious Italian pastry made with ricotta cheese and orange zest. Actually I'm sure these are Sicilian. The island off Italy which has citrus growing. Anyway low and behold when I got home and took a bite they were yesterday's pastries. Really? Wow. I guess I was supposed to not notice. Oh OK. Like Pinocchio has a six inch nose but I didn't notice. OK. So now you're trying to pass day old pastry to the customer rather than loose money by tossing them into the trash. Two suggestions. Say they're day old and discount. I know some people may buy them at a discount. I would not but that's me. I like my pastry to be fresh. Second suggestion. Make less. When they're sold out then the customer can choose something else. Stop trying to fool the customer. Because this customer is pissed off. Angry. I work hard for my money. Stop trying to sell items at full price when they're not fresh. Shame on you. Your Aunt Tina would be mortified if she knew what kind of bullshit is going on at her family's business. Might be my favorite Bakery. Everything i heard about this Bakery over the last 2 years was true and o boy was the jelly donut addictive. The blueberry Danish was on point as well and the Boston creme . I gotta go back and then remember to take Pic before eating and sharing the sweets. Get the Jelly donut if you're new. Where do I begin?? It saddens me to say that Cuccio's has been a disappointment of an Italian bakery for at least the past 15 years solid. Today, after about 5 years or so of not patronizing because of the history of their sub-par pastries and desserts, I figured I'd take their current Yelp ratings into consideration, and pay them a visit. I ordered rainbow cookies, a brownie, and a cherry cheesecake. 4 rainbow cookies cost me $4.25, meaning each 1 1/2 inch cookie cost over a dollar. Absolute highway robbery. If the cookies were mind-blowing, I'd understand, but the cookies were horrific. It saddens me that a place that claims to be an Italian bakery, doesn't know what a rainbow cookie (also referred to as a 7-layer cookie) is supposed to be. The usual "7 layers" refers to a chocolate layer on the top and bottom, 3 layers of cake (usually pink, white, and green) and 2 layers of either raspberry or apricot preserves (or a mix of both). Cuccio's 7-layer cookies involved 7 layers of cake, which were sacchariney sweet, almost tasted like they were sitting in sugar syrup, had NO recognizable jelly layers (which, quite honestly, is what makes or breaks a rainbow cookie), and just tasted terrible. So minus one star for their cookies. The brownie was worse. Dry as a sponge that's been sitting out in the desert for days. Not moist, not chocolately, not fudgey in the least. It was like eating a brick that had a coating of chocolate frosting on top - added in a desperate attempt to save it from being inedible. Terrible. Minus one star for the brownies. The cherry cheesecake was no better. It was clearly old - I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was sitting in that display case for at least a week - or at least that's how it tasted, and that's most certainly the consistency that the outside of the cake had. If this cake was "freshly baked" then this bakery has an even bigger problem. The cherry topping was your usual canned cherry topping that all bakeries use to top their cheesecakes - so no fault there. But the actual cheesecake was awful. Again, sacchariney sweet, incredibly processed-tasting, and no underlying flavors of cream cheese - which is (or should be) the basis of a cheesecake. All I tasted was sugar and artificial flavors. I can honestly say that Trader Joe's frozen NY cheesecake tastes better than this. And as for previous reviewers who claim the place is "clean and spotless" I'd like you to read their Dept of Health history. Had I read it prior to visiting this place, I wouldn't have gotten anything from there at all. Their latest review states: " Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated flies present in facility's food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies. Personal cleanliness inadequate. Outer garment soiled with possible contaminant. Effective hair restraint not worn in an area where food is prepared." They had a "B" rating and 23 violation points. Not even close to being "clean and spotless". I would recommend anyone heading to Cuccio's to seriously reconsider their choice and head to one of the myriad other Italian bakeries in the area. Not just for cleanliness/sanitation reasons, but also because I've never gotten a single thing from Cuccio's in 20+ years of patronage where I sat back and said "hmm, this is really good!" everything has always been disappointing. We lost a great one who always asked about my parents when I visited. Having grown up in Providence, RI, I love old tme Italian bakeries and thus I love Cuccio's! They have the standard Italian style cookies, cakes and cannolli's. And unlike another reviewer, I found the people working here to be quite friendly. It would be nice if they accepted credit cards but if by not doing so, they can hold down their costs (prices), it is fine with me. In an era where the chains are swallowing up the independent bakeries and coffee shops, it is great to know Cuccio's is where it is! read more

I came here to get cookies, and the results were pretty good but not great. Its a very big storefront and they have a long line of different baked goods. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable enough, but not that experienced as I had to correct them so that they didn't stuff a pound and a half of cookies into a tiny box. I would've actually gotten an Italian cheesecake or a grain pie (pastiera) if they had them, but they only had NY style cheesecake and it was too long after Easter for a grain pie. They had an impressive selection of regular cookies, but their batter could've been much better; it was missing mostly cheese, but also sugar as well. Their rainbows were great, although highly unconventional. Since this place is 70 years old now, the owner wanted 7 layers in its rainbodw cookies. When I say 7 layers I mean 7 different layers of dough, on top of all that jelly in between and the chocolate on the top and bottom! Suffice to say, I only got a couple, as they were huge. They were much tastier than the other cookies, but they were sitll overkill. I also got pignoli cookeis, which were by far the best here. They were overpriced (even for pignoli), but they were up there with the best I've had, and they were pretty big with great quality nuts. I would go back here mainly for the rainbows and pignoli, but not so much for the other cookies. Regardless, this was still a solid example of why Brooklyn Italian bakeries kick ass and I would definitely come back if I'm in the area. read more

This bakery has been around for a long time. This is because they make their pastries the same way throughout the years. They are very consistent with their products. It might lack a fancy outside decor and you won't find any over the top and overly decorated cakes or pastries displayed around the store BUT what you'll see is an amazing array of fresh buns, cakes, bread and pastries. My partner and I dropped in on a Sunday afternoon to take dessert to some family and it was THE BEST BAKERY EVER. I kid you not. I'm from NC and I've lived all over but the Italian bakeries in Jersey take the cake. Or at least they did, until we had the chocolate strawberry cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, Oreo cup, fruit tart, and five other desserts I didn't know the names of. I love the cannolis from this spot! I have been buying them for several years now and they're always so delicious. The cream filling is tasty and the vanilla and chocolate outsides are always just the right amount of crunchy. I also ordered a cream cheese drumstick looking thing and it was very tasty too. CASH ONLY. Small, Old-style, Local dessert bakery. A staple on Avenue X. Part of the experience if you're in the area. They have some amazing things, and some awful things. I love the small slices of cheesecake, but they have a pale crust which I can't see well enough to peel off (which I must do since I'm allergic to gluten) My husband loves their cream donuts and has been eating them his whole life. However, it seems unreasonable that he must eat all six at once or else they will go rancid. He's literally tried to eat them after dinner and found the cream has gone rancid. I got a pumpkin pie from them this week. It was $9.50 which is more than I'd pay at ShopRite but less than I'd pay at most bakeries and less than I'd pay for a gluten-free one. I usually just eat the guts and ditch the crust. This one was so eggy that it was savory and gross. It peels away from the crust which was good for me, but I couldn't eat much of it since it was salty and didn't taste like pumpkin pie. I waited a day and then went back to try another slice - only to find the pie covered in mold. I am so confused! I know natural, fresh bakery items don't contain additives and therefore go bad, but why do their products go bad the same day they're purchased when I could get the same thing at any other bakery in South BK and it would last several days? Was it already old when I bought it? We'd never stop coming here because those cream donuts are one-of-a-kind these days, with the closest item being a Leske's donut, but I wish there were a way to know for sure if we're getting something fresh or something about to expire. read more

What can I say..very disappointing as I have purchased from this place going back 30 years..before original family sold it few years ago...pastries are huge and tasteless. Connoli cream has weird chips in abundance, except they aren't chocolate chips. Some brown chips that have nothing to do with real chocolate. Both connoli and french creams are heavy and aren't authentic Italian recipe, weird texture too.Try Tasty Pastry in Dyker Heights and you will not be sorry. This place....avoid. read more

Typically, I need to here a few times once I am home during break! Staff is always really friendly and everything I have ever gotten from here is delicious. The main reason I frequent visit Cuccio's is mostly for their unique rainbow cakes! I like buying 2-3 pounds to take back to my campus! Their rainbow cake are not only three layers like other place. I believe Cuccio's has 6 or 7 layers (If I stop stuff my face with them, I might be able to count them). Also if you have the room I would also recommend the red velvet cupcake or the cannoli! read more

I, along with a few others, organized an office celebration today. It would seem we are always finding reasons for cake in our office. My coworker went to Cuccio's this morning and bought two cakes for the office party. One chocolate frosting with yellow cake in the middle and the other cake is mocha frosting of the same version of the cake. People were interested in the Mocha cake so it was several pieces cut out of it before someone noticed something odd. It was green in the center of the cake....Is it food coloring? No! IT WAS MOLD. OMG. There was mold in the center of the Mocha cake! It was disgusting. If we put the cake back together the center of the cake which about the size of my fist is all green and moldy. That is a lot of mold! It takes some time to grow mold that big in the center of a cake! I would never get cake here again! Looks like the cake was contaminated with mold spores already when it was being assembled. There was nothing on the outside of the cake. I am just speculating but from the physical evidence, it looks as such. The chocolate version of the cake is not fresh either. The cake is dry and hard. The cake was not moist at all. Ugh. In the garbage it went. My coworker and I called the bakery to let them know what happened. My coworker was so embarrassed by the whole situation since she is a bit more sensitive than me about these situations. My coworker felt like it was her fault...I had to remind her, she is not the one who made the cake! It was Cuccio's!! Both of us were on the phone speaking to the manager on the other side of the phone. We explained the whole situation about how we bought two cakes this morning and when we cut into the Mocha cake, there was mold in the center of the cake. The manager said, " I know, I know, I know." I was in shock and my jaw dropped. The manager said there has been a refrigeration problem and he knows already. SAY WHAT?! My coworker said to the manager, if you (manager) knew there is an issue with the refrigeration, why would you sell me the cake?! AMEN TO THAT, SISTER! Let's just say, we are not happy with Cuccio's. I hope she realizes not to trust Cuccio's anymore. If a bakery knows there is an issue with the refrigeration, they should not be selling their cakes. It can make someone sick! This is awful. My coworker is still so embarrassed for presenting Cuccio's cakes to the office. I would chalk it up as lesson learned, NO MORE Cuccio's especially if this is how they do business. Yuck. read more

I love this Bakery! =) It makes me smile! All I can say is that the square cheese buns are the best ever! Creamy cheese filling with an white icy glazed drizzle. They make them on extra large baking trays and cut them. The fruit buns are also good too, but I love the cheese ones best! All for under 1 dollar! They also makes the large cookies with the BIG chocolate dot, which is amazing too. The butter cookies are delicious as the black and white iced cakes in the window.
