But the Aji de Galina is by far THE BEST item on the menu! It is an incredible Creamy Chicken and Rice dish with such a unique flavor that is literally addiciting. For real, I'll eat it and later on within a few hours I will crave more! Highly recommended. And the service is unbelievably fast for a sit down restaurant; place your order at the counter, get your drinks and within five minutes you get your food. I got a Culantro bowl for pickup. I was really excited because I love Peruvian food. I really really enjoyed the sauces, the aji verde was filled with flavor. The bowl itself was probably 80% white rice which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. I would not order it again. It was about $16. The food was ready quickly and and the inside was really nice. If I did go back I'd get the lomo Saltado, which is what I typically get from Peruvian places, but paying $16 for 2 cups of white rice and a couple pieces of chicken wasn't worth me actively making an effort to go back. I do think they make and sell plantains but these ones were made by me. I think they were really necessary in the bowl and I'd highly recommend ordering some if you decide to get this bowl. read more

Got a bowl for take out. On UberEATS it is buy one, get one. When I received the bowl it was a bit cold. The bowl contents were 75% rice, tomato, a couple of slices of red pepper, and corn. There were black beans and chicken. I got the sauces on the side, which I asked for extra spicy. I really enjoyed the sauces and it paired well with the dish. However my complaint is that it was a lot of rice and very little content. The taste was OK but the quantity did not meet my expectations. read more

Mmmmmm is all I have to say! The spices were on point and you can taste the variation of this location or the cooks and it was also very good. The chicha morada leaned on the cinnamon side. Ever since trying Peruvian food in Atlanta, I've wanted it again. Once I learning we have Peruvian here nearby, we decided to go. I ordered the same named dish (lomo saltado) as in Atlanta so it was hard not to compare the two. Overall the staff here was friendly and welcoming. And the ambiance simple and relaxed. This steak dish was good but it wasn't close to as flavorful or sauce filled as what I experienced at the other place. Would I come back, yes. Would I say it was a good replacement, no. I'm pleasantly surprised to find this excellent Peruvian eatery right in downtown Ferndale. Starting with the Patacones Picantes, which are yummy fried plantains in pico de gallo and covered in an Aji verde sauce. So good. Next we had the Arroz Con Mariscos, a delicious seafood and rice dish. The best thing on their menu. Add a side of creamy white beans called Canario Beans and that's as good as it gets. The service is fast, accurate and friendly. The food is bursting with flavour, possibly too much in that a few items came off a bit saltier than I remember. Culantro seems to an overlooked gem among all of the options in the Ferndale area. My guess is because they do not serve alcohol (note that there is a brewery next door). If you are skipping due to the lack of alcohol, you are missing out. (They do have some really good juice!) This small Peruvian restaurant has fantastic food, a bright interior, and lovely staff. The food has is very flavorful and fresh. The menu is a good size and the portion are large. My friend and I shared Aji de Galina and Lomo Saltado. The Aji de Galina is shredded chicken in an amazing yellow sauce, over potatoes and rice. The Saltado is steak, fries, and veggies, and a safe introduction to Peruvian. All of the staff is lovely and friendly. Worth a visit! read more

This has got to be the biggest joke of Peruvian cuisine I have ever tried. I had high hopes as this is a cuisine I eat regularly and always love to try new Peruvian places. This one misses the mark entirely. The chaufa - terrible. The seasoning is horrendous. It takes like plain rice and noodles with some curry sprinkled on it mixed with mustard. The aji verde. Not good. Where's the added lime juice to the flavoring? This may as well be ground up jalepeno in mayonnaise. The ceviche is fine. The leche de Tigre isn't bad. I have gotten this twice this week and was very happy. First time I got the empanadas, which were so sweet and savory. Arroz Chaufa.. so good. Everything tasted fresh like it's made with healthy ingredients. Which is so refreshing. This second time I got the arroz again with steak.. think pot roast steak but in fried rice. So good in my opinion. Lastly my friend got the Pan Con Pollo. I took 3 bites and my taste buds were happy. Not something I could get every time since I'm dairy free and gluten free. I got the lomo Saltado, which is a dish that I love. Although the flavor was there, the meat was a little tough and I guess was expecting a little more. This is my new favorite place in Ferndale! Three of us stopped in for dinner and had an amazing meal. You can dine in or carryout. If you are sitting at one of their several tables you can order at the counter or from a QR code menú at the table. The food arrived quickly and we tucked right in! There is no bar, but treat yourself to a passion fruit juice (jugó maracuyá) to enjoy with your meal. We ordered two appetizers. Plantains (patacones picantes) and the empanada (2 large empanadas per order). Both were amazing and the empanadas were the best I have ever had. We also ordered the half chicken la brasa and the carne la plancha. Wow! Such great flavors with tender flavorful meat. We loved everything. We also went home with plenty of leftovers. I had been dying to try this spot since it opened. I finally got my wish. It's a quaint little spot with ample parking in the back. The decor is colorful and vibrant, and the staff is very informative and attentive. This place popped up in my Yelp feed so of course I had to try it out. When I walked in, the inside had a relaxing feel. I placed my order and had a seat. The food was ready pretty fast. The waitress was very attentive. I had the Pollo a la Brasa which is basically rotisserie chicken with Peruvian spices. It was very tasty and not dry. I chose the black beans and rice for my two sides. The entree came with two dipping sauces. I do enjoy some heat in sauces but the green dipping sauce was very hot and it was just a dip of the thines of my fork. The other yellow sauce had just the right about of heat for me and added a bit of ethnic taste to my chicken. I will be returning to try a few other menu items. read more

Trying another place for the first time. I'm not a stranger to Peruvian food, especially the wonderful chicken - I go to a few places every time I'm in DC. I was really happy to see that our area was getting our own. It's a nice place inside, very clean with good music piped in. You order at the counter, and they had some specials this night. I, of course, was going to check out their chicken game. We also got a pork and chicken dish, and some empanadas. The chicken came with two choices, I wish they'd have the plantains as one, but fries and a good-sized salad were nice. The chicken was fantastic. Great skin, moist and flavorful meat. And those sauces? Great. The green kind (jalapeno) and the orange, which I assume was habanero. Both with kick, but balancing off the chicken wonderfully. The other dish was also very good. The empanadas were decent, but I'm not sure why they seemed to be sprinkled with sugar. It looks like they're pretty busy, which is a good sign. You'll wait a bit for your food, but not that long. Service is fine, and the owner checked on us during the meal. We got some sweets to take home, and the tres leches cake was off the hook. I will definitely get that again. Culantro is a great spot for a quick bite of Peruvian food in Ferndale -- I stopped by on a Friday night with friends and had a great experience dining there! The atmosphere feels more like a fast casual restaurant than a full-on sit down restaurant, but I appreciated that they've got some modern conveniences at the table (ordering directly from app to table & USB chargers at every table). Food service is pretty quick and there are a ton of options on the menu. Among my group of friends, I think we decided that the Lomo Saltado was the best dish, but I'd definitely recommend getting an order of the Maduros Fritos; how can you go wrong with sweet fried plantains at such a low price? I got there lomo saltaldo and yellow curry. Both were good but nothing too great. I also tried there plantains and empanada. I wasn't a fan of both. Plantain was okay but too charred and the empanada didn't really have a great balance in flavor so it had a more overpowering sweet acidic flavor. Delicious and fast. From placing the order to getting the food it took about 10 minutes. You place an order at the counter, take a number, stir at the table and they bring you food. I like that they have pictures of each menu item on the wall so if you are not familiar with this cuisine it makes easier to choose. I also like that they offer vegan dishes and many sides are also vegan. My husband wanted Pollo a la Brasa but they were out, so he got Arroz con Mariscos. I got the vegan Lomo Saltado and we also got a side of beans and plantains. Everything was delicious, plantains fresh and crispy, you could feel that beans were cooked from scratch and had a very good flavor. Hubby enjoyed his rice with seafood, my lomo was very nicely flavored but too oily. They used too much oil for my liking and if ever ordering this dish again, I need to make sure to ask to use less oil. We will be back to try other menu items. Got a delivery of this when I moved. I've been dying to try them! Had the most amazing chicken, black beans, and rice ever! ( Polla a la brasa) . Got a side of plantains , and the salchipapas. While salchipapas were good- not the best thing for me. It was way too much food and I made it stretch out a few days. The sauces are amazing- and beware- quite spicy! So delicious though!!! I had the chicken empanadas- soooooo delicious- also great with the sauces!!!! We ordered food on the app, and the food was ready exactly when it was predicted to be. That's always a good sign. We ordered the empanadas, pollo a la brasa, and the carne a la plancha. I inhaled it. The food tasted fantastic and fresh. It was refreshing to get to try something different and new. I had been told that the chicken was tasty and moist, and it did not disappoint. I'm so happy I got to try a few things when we decided to go. Not living in the immediate area anymore, I'm really mad at myself for missing out when I lived in Royal Oak.
