Made a reservation since we figured that it would be busy because of Mother's Day. Got here and restaurant was 60% full. Greeted with smiles all around the front desk to Matt our server. While I was glad to get seated and greeted quickly, I was underwhelmed when the server knew the drink of the day but didn't know "Yesterday's Soup". Ordered brussels sprouts for an appetizer which had a little bit of a kick, although not extremely crispy. And concurrently got the chicken fingers dish for the little guy. For our mains, my wife and I ordered the barbecue nachos and Smokehouse Hash respect respectively. The food delivery was very quick. Quality was good, the dishes were warm, and the server was friendly. However, I guess my perspective on the meal is evaluated against both a Culinary Dropout in AZ and even my previous experience at this same restaurant. The vibe was fine but just felt rushed. Not because of the pace of the food (which was speedy) but the overall feel. There is a difference between a manager stopping by and saying, "Everything good today?" versus a manager saying, "What did you like best about your dish? That's one of my favorites." Or "Next time you come be sure to try the ...." Granted this would be extremely exhausting to do for every single customer and every single table. And, they may have done this for others and just not for my family. Perhaps I'm just needy. But in my opinion that is the difference between a good meal and a great dining experience. Will I go back? Yes Would I recommend it to others? Yes Would I go for brunch again? Maybe (because my tendency is towards dinner items) This time was a 3/5.... Or perhaps a 3.5, but not quite a 4. Unfortunately this was a miss for me. The happpy hour drinks were just ok. I had the frozen espresso and the maui wowi. Neither were strong and espresso kinda just tasted like a chocolate frostee lol. The Maui had a grapefruit taste.... not really sure why. Ordered the pigs in a blanket appetizer. Again, just ok. The entrees were the ribs, short ribs and cap ribeye. The ribs and short ribs had a good flavor profile but extremely salty. Like, hypertension level. My cap ribeye was actually good, but came out room temp. I asked them to throw it in the microwave to warm it up but even with that, it came back cold. Once I warm it up at home I think I'll be happy. Lastly for dessert, we had the monkey bread and banana peanut butter bar. The monkey bread is like an apple pie monkey bread.... not what I was expecting. The bar was good though. THE GOOD: our waiter Joshua, the bartender and the managers were all phenomenal. They tried to accommodate us with everything including letting us order happy hour drinks even though we weren't at the bar, tried to warm back up my food (even though it was a fail) and apologetically comped the desserts for the table. The vibes seem interesting here - kind of classy but also casual? It's confusing. Valet is available here, but my unbougie-booty always pulls around to the back for the self-parking. The fried chicken is decent here though a bit oily and a bit salty. The mashed potatoes were on the pasty side and the coleslaw was heavily dressed. I had a bite of the Mississippi Mud pie and that was a decadent slice of dessert. Almost like a thick layer of ganache topped with whipped cream. The old man who was part of the dinner party really demolished it though, so it's possible to eat the whole thing by yourself, if you're curious. I think he's still alive today. Came recently with a group of coworkers. Easy to find with plenty of parking on a Monday night. As a vegan I was pleased to see a vegan curry on the menu. There were also several mocktails that looked interesting. I ordered a side salad, vegan curry, and the verde green mocktail. My coworkers all loved their food. I wasn't as impressed with mine though. The curry was very brothy - I was hoping for a lot more of the black rice. It just wasn't very filling as a meal. The mocktail was more of a spicy green juice than I realized. I thought it would be more pineapple juice-y based on the description. I couldn't finish it so I'm glad I ordered an iced tea as well. Made a last minute reservation for Sunday brunch. We arrived shortly after and were seated immediately. Very nice space and ambiance for girls brunch time or a day date with your love. Tons of seating options to include booths, high top tables and even rooftop dining. After being seated it took a while for our waiter to come over but the place didn't seem to be super busy but maybe I couldn't see every area of responsibility...who knows. After some time our server arrived and brought out waters and took our orders. I decided to go with the roasted salmon as it read well on the brunch menu. The food arrived a while later and it was all plated beautifully. The table had some of everything from sushi to pizza to a breakfast bowl and a salad and sandwich. Everyone seemed happy as they began to dig in. My roasted salmon was very flavorful and had a beautiful finish. It was cooked to a medium finish with a yummy pesto atop a bed of risotto with crispy Brussels on top. Everything paired well but I was disappointed with the lack of crispy Brussels. It seemed that only one or maybe two were torn apart and spread through the dish. I desired more but didn't bother asking because other requests took forever to arrive to the table such as hotsauce or a side of ranch etc. Nevertheless, I think it was a pretty decent experience and worthy of another visit. I would've sworn I had this place bookmarked, maybe even been here before, but, nay, thanks to a friend visiting from WA they chose for a reunion brunch and from THE START we were teasing her about wanting everything according to photos googled from the brunch menu- alas, twas 7pm and we had to order dinner. Two more words... CRISPY RICE... PEACH & RYE, ENDLESS SUMMER [MARGARITA] and VANILLA ICE CREAM (ok that's three but you get it). Not only was our "I've only been here 15-days" waiter, DEZ, on point but we also accidentally received a duplicate of the delicious crispy rice and didn't even have to correct the tab at the end because they didn't charge us for it! Everyone LOVED that crispy rice app with the spicy tuna and lemme tell ya, I was with three of the pickiest eaters on the planet! The interior is beautiful and cozy, super cool stage area I look forward to enjoying some time soon! The rainbow roll ( pork belly nachos, Brussel sprouts and pretzels with melted provolone) was ALL delicious, the cocktails were fab, and we really enjoyed ourselves. However, the place prides itself for making craft cocktails I have tried a couple and both were very unimpressive. I chose Wagyu pigs in blankets as appetizers and would not recommend it I also shared with my friends and none of us liked it, for main dish I got Mongolian short rib and that was fatty, dry and under seasoned all at the same time. I think I met about five different staff members just checking in on how my dinner was going. The Katsu, however, was delicious. The only thing I disliked about it was that the bottom bread was extremely soggy. The sandwich kept falling apart so I couldn't get the full experience of it all... You can't go wrong, there's something for everyone here. The menu seems to have a little bit of everything. My friend and I kept it simple, we shared the white truffle deviled eggs which are topped with crispy prosciutto and chives. If there are deviled eggs on a menu there's a 95% chance I'll order them. These ones were top-notch flavorful and the truffle wasn't overbearing. For my entree, I got the caesar salad and added steak for $10. To me, it was the perfect meal. The salad was super cold, crunchy, cheesey, and had a nice pungent dressing. I ordered my steak medium and it was cooked beautifully, well-seasoned, and super juicy with a nice char. Zero complaints and I think a great price for a top-notch steak and salad. The cocktail menu can look a little overwhelming; ask for a recommendation if you can't decide. I ordered the "society crush" mocktail, then spiked it with vodka, haha. I couldn't resist the description: ruby red grapefruit, citrus oleo, toasted cinnamon, and seltzer water. I ordered the Caramelized Banana Bar and Mongolian Short Rib for take out. The presentation of the short rib wasn't the best (from last pictures) but the food wasn't bad. The short rib was good, there was almost no broccolini in the bowl, the congee looked and tasted like grits in my opinion, and the rice I would've preferred in its normal shape and texture. It was fried into a shape similar to the beef rib. For the first bite I thought I was eating beef fat until I realized it was the rice. The Caramelized banana bar was also ok. It's best to bite into everything all at once. I will say the portion of food was just right. This place also looks like a vibe. This is my second time at Culinary Dropout (the first was at a Yelp event a couple months back), and it was just as delicious! I recommend ordering the fried chicken and biscuits. The dish comes with a side of coleslaw and mashed potatoes with gravy. The coleslaw had a hint of apple juice, which was refreshing! The chicken was fried to perfection, the biscuit was warm and fluffy, and the mashed potatoes were amazing! My husband and I both enjoyed our lunch on the rooftop. The restaurant is gorgeous.
