I had a late dinner at 9 PM on Memorial Day and the host and staff were incredibly friendly to welcome us (even though it was late). We had great service all night and the ambience was relaxing with the waterfall outside. The crabcake lollipops were a favorite, the chicken was perfectly cooked and the cream spinach with some of the best I've ever had. The fried rice and the whipped potatoes were also great. My cosmopolitan was perfectly balanced and nice and strong. We had a party of six and everybody enjoyed their food and the experience. Took my boyfriend to Dakota's for his 34th birthday after hearing great things from coworkers & learning about the underground waterfall and unique downstairs elevator experience. I made a reservation in advance and requested seating near the waterfall if possible. We were seated quickly, but the seating process was a bit chaotic, we were first placed right next to another couple in an otherwise mostly empty room, then moved to a half-circle booth, and finally relocated again next to the waterfall area. We were told the seating request had been noted, but the waterfall feature wasn't even running that evening, which was disappointing given the expectation. Service throughout the meal was fine but not particularly memorable, especially considering the price point and reputation. For entrees, we ordered the tomahawk steak and lamb chops, which were both solid and what you'd expect from a high-end Dallas steakhouse. Unfortunately, the experience around the meal overshadowed the food itself. With so many strong steakhouse options in Dallas, I'd personally try out Al Biernat's, Nick & Sam's, or STK Steakhouse instead. read more

It's tucked underground, so you actually take an elevator down to get there (don't worry, there's stairs if elevators aren't your thing). We took my cousins here and this was their first time here. They were very impressed. We started out with the tater tots, not just tater tots but tater tots oozing with white cheddar cheesy goodness. We ordered a dozen oysters and asked what size they were and our waiter said medium! The only disappointment of the night. We corrected him and said they're small to tiny!!! Wife and I came out for a special occasion. It's a fantastic location, heart of downtown but a subterranean restaurant that you take an elevator to. Wish we sat next to the water feature, we were in the middle of the main walkway. Staff were very respectful but it was a lot of foot traffic by us which does take away some of the ambience. We were excited to try this restaurant for my husband's birthday since it was one of the few steakhouses we hadn't been to and our son -- who goes there frequently -- had great things to say about it. We requested to sit outside to enjoy the water feature, but unfortunately, the patio was weatherproofed that night, so we didn't get to experience the outdoor atmosphere we were hoping for. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, but it tasted sour. I mentioned this to our waiter, who quickly tried to dismiss it. My husband tasted it as well and agreed that it seemed like the bottle had been open too long and had gone bad. The waiter again brushed it off and started to walk away, and I had to stop him to explain that I couldn't drink it. He reluctantly took it back. Underground steakhouse in the middle of Dallas. The service is really attentive and kind. We both got filets which were nice along with the broccolini, risotto, and fries to share. The risotto was both of our favorites for sure. For dessert we got an ice cream sundae which was explained to us like a kid threw it together and that's basically what it is, but super good nonetheless. One thing I didn't love was that when we were asked if we were done with our main plates, they took all of our sides away as well, which we still had quite a bit left of each one. It took us a minute to realize that we were in fact not getting to take them home, and when the sides aren't cheap that's pretty disappointing. It is a classic Dallas establishment that I have been meaning to check out. what's unique about this restaurant is that you can only see their elevator above ground, the whole dining room is underground next to water fountains. Tried the crab cake appetizer, ribeye, Kansas city strip, creamed spinach, and Mac and cheese as sides. I really loved the ribeye, with a really nice crust and huge portion. I often judge a restaurant by the bread they offer and this one definitely has top notch bread!!! The green salad was fresh and tasty. The Smoked Prime Ribs were cooked just right and very tasty. The sides were amazing - loved their mashed potatoes and spinach; the glazed carrots were amazing. Steakhouse Review #5: Dakota's. Made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday. Not sure how parking is because we got a ride, but it's downtown so I'm assuming it's not the easiest. When you arrive, there's an elevator that takes you down to get into the underground restaurant. Fun! The look and atmosphere was just swanky enough with a classic flair that included a waterfall. It's one of my favorite vibes we've had thus far...not too noisy, not too pretentious, and just the right amount of special. We were seated right away and ordered a blackberry mule. It was tart and sweet and so good. Our service was good but not spectacular, no complaints. Ordered two famous tator tots for an app and they almost made me cry they were so good! They are $5 a pop and so worth it. Our main meal was a filet, mac & cheese, cacio y pepe risotto, carrots, and mashed potatoes. The steak was the best we've had thus far and was tender, mildly smoky, and perfectly seasoned. Divine. Now, the sides were where we were reallllllly let down. The mac (bland with no distinct flavor) and mashers (gummy and bland) just weren't good, the carrots were basic, and the risotto had promise and was actually fairly decent with a parmesan and black pepper accent. It was my birthday (they had a cute little birthday card on the table which was appreciated) and brought out a dessert but it was two chunks of frozen cheesecake and was not bangin. One of these places will eventually knock our socks off on all levels, but this wasn't the one, though the steak itself was supurb. Overall, we probably wouldn't go back but glad we got to experience it. The meal was $160 and we tipped $50 for a total if $210. The service & ambiance were great, however the food was even better. We both ordered rib-eye, Mac & cheese, loaded mashed potatoes, and truffle fries (not pictured). The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I didn't like the fact that every condiment that could be paired with the steak was an extra charge. We took our son, his fiance and her parents to celebrate his graduation from UT @ Dallas with an EMBA and his BD. We ordered a number of entrees as well as several side dishes and starters. 1st the good.. The wait staff was attentive, polite and professional - except to the lady who came and checked on the steaks that our party ordered. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight of the evening. The filet mignon was over-cooked (our guest asked for medium rare and the steak came out medium at best and borderline medium well). My double pork chop - the section toward the bones was actually rare. Our guest when he mentioned to the lady who was checking the level of doneness of the filet that it was over-cooked, she just said - cut into the middle of the filet which he did... and it was just pink going toward brown.. She just ignored him and walked away. At no time, neither she nor another member of the staff who was there offered to have it redone. Three of the five sides were just terrible - the risotto was way overcooked and had zero flavor. The mac & cheese was also overcooked. The brussel sprouts were burnt... The bill was about $800+ and then they added 20% of tips... brought the total to about $1000... The quality is no better than something you can get a Texas Roadhouse or the kinds with about 1/5 of the price we paid... Just a terrible experience. I will be a regular, because they know meat and they know it well. The steak, pork belly, lobster, and pasta were true perfection. 5 Stars. The sides are okay. I would suggest to the kitchen staff not to try so hard - stick with the basics. Example: the pureed cheese potatoes is overkill. People who like steak - generally love potatoes. You don't have to transform them too much. The same with the hors d'oeuvres... A chicken nugget dressed up is just a chicken nugget on a fancy date. I went to Dakota's on Friday night for a nice dinner with my boyfriend. We don't go out like this often, so it was meant to be a special night. When we arrived, the atmosphere was nice, and our server was very polite. We started with the calamari and shrimp appetizer, which was amazing. After that, we had high hopes for the rest of the meal. When our entrees arrived, I had ordered the 8 oz filet, and they asked me to cut into it to ensure it was cooked correctly. I had requested medium-rare, but what I received was completely raw. (For context, I have a culinary background, so I understand what a true medium-rare steak should be.) I asked them to cook it longer, and when they brought it back, the outside was charred, but the inside was still raw. At that point, I requested a completely new filet. When the new steak arrived, I cut into it and immediately noticed an odd texture. I told them it was fine to avoid further back-and-forth, but when I took a bite, it was awful. It had the texture of ground beef, with visible blood spots. The outer half-inch was overcooked, while the rest was severely undercooked, and it had no seasoning at all. I complained again because I had never had such a poor experience at any steakhouse. At that point, someone I assume was a manager came over and said, "I just wanted to let you know we serve Allen Brothers meat, which is the highest quality you'll find.
