Honestly, each time we go to Culinary Dropout at the Quarter it just gets better. The general manager Maura and all of her servers are truly outstanding. They greet us by name and always have fantastic suggestions (my niece loved the mocktail spritz she suggested). In a sea of Scottsdale restaurants and especially one with a constant full load of reservations (and always a walk in wait!) I am consistently impressed that this team makes every customer feel special instead of like a number. Five college girlfriends reuniting after 40 years chose Culinary Dropout in North Scottsdale as one of our first meals together in Phoenix, and what a perfect choice it was. One member of our group is a die-hard Pepsi connoisseur, and when none was available, store manager Matt and executive team member Maura went out of their way to bring her not one, but two Pepsis. That's when we knew this was a truly special place. Oh yes...the food. We ordered from nearly every section of the menu to experience the full range of offerings, and every single dish delivered. The whipped feta, crispy popcorn shrimp, soft pretzels, Brussels sprouts, chicken katsu, pepperoni pizza, steak frites, and beer-battered fish and chips were all outstanding. Our fan-favorite cocktail was the Evil Jungle Princess, absolutely to die for! Lana, our server, is the crème de la crème of customer service. She catered to all our wishes, made fantastic food and drink recommendations, and even helped us capture a photo of our group enjoying our time together. Culinary Dropout is one of our favorite restaurants so we decided to make reservations for Easter brunch. Sadly, our visit today was not great. We had to ask for a kids menu although we had a child with us, our water glasses were never refilled, our order was wrong and worse, all our food came out cold. It was obvious it had set and the over easy eggs had congealed with the gravy being ice cold. The service was sadly lacking. The chandeliers twinkled like flirtatious stars, the air smelled faintly of rebellion and rosemary, and the music was as if a mischievous jazz band had been locked in a basement with only good vibes and caffeine. But let us speak, with reverence, of Alex. Ah yes Alex, as I shall call her from now on. This young lady didn't just serve -- no, she curated our evening like a sommelier of pure joy. She knew the menu better than I know my own reflection, and she had the timing of a Shakespearean actor trained in the art of comedic pause. She was equal parts butler, bard, and benevolent guide through the kingdom of food. And now, dear reader, the Mudslide Pie. I have tasted things in my life -- war rations, hamster, Yorkshire puddings that could choke a horse.....but this. This Mudslide Pie is a dessert of such decadent proportions, I believe it may be illegal in several European nations. We were looking for food around 10:30 on a weekday and Culinary was one of the only options! We've been here before and had usual pretzel bites, burgers, etc and I never felt the menu was one I enjoyed. This time I had the Asian crunch salad with grilled salmon and it was one of the most delicious salads I've had- the salmon perfectly grilled. We finished with the mud pie which is a different take as it's not an ice cream base- I didn't love it. Service was super friendly! read more

The restaurant was not crowded or at capacity. There was no explanation or apology for the garabage service. Ridiculous! Do better. The manager, Matt, did nothing (but stop by the table) to make up for the atrocious service. Disappointing. This was a birthday dinner and it was a complete disaster. Came here for a late lunch and was seated fairly quickly. The restaurant was not very busy, so lots of open tables and the noise level was good. The restaurant is split into 2 sections; the one closest to the bathrooms were more wood-toned and intimate; but I sat in the more open "cafe" vibe section. My server was great - she took the time to explain the menu and offered helpful suggestions. I decided on the Mongolian short rib - partly because it is served over congee; and the Yuzu Orchard Spitz. -Mongolian short rib: very filling portion, but could easily be split among 2 people. The congee was good - not overly soupy, and all of the components worked very well together. The short ribs were well flavored and were fork tender. Solid 9.5 (taking off because it was just a touch salty) -Yuzu Orchard Spitz: I can really appreciate having a well put together mocktail without it becoming a super sweet kool-aid drink. This was refreshing! At first, the ginger was very aggressive, but it mellowed out and the drink was very balanced. -Atmosphere: very laid back, customers were diverse and staff was really great at offering recommendations and being on top of drink refills. read more

My wife and I were in Scottsdale and were going to go to Zinburger, but since we were on the other side of the street, we decided we'll go to Culinary Dropout. Our waiter, Marty. came to the table and mentioned my Wisconsin Badger t-shirt I was wearing and that he was from St. Paul. We mentioned we were from just across the border in Hudson, WI. Marty told us he actually worked at two restaurants in Hudson for awhile. I said my brother hangs out at those two and was shocked when I told him his name, because he knew him.......small world. Marty recommended a couple of items, the Banana Bread French toast and the breakfast pizza, so that's what we ordered , and they were both amazing! Marty was a great waiter and it was pretty neat that we had a bit of a connection. We'll back and ask for Marty! as our waiter! Where do we start with this experience, first person greeting us had 666 tattooed on the lower part of there neck, nothing as welcoming as that. Then we get sat in the sun after the entire restaraunt is open, we ask if we can get some shade then the hostess says "oh you can sit on whichever side of the table you would like" which came a relief that there was not assigned seating in the only table that was covered with sun. After 10 minutes and a rude employee telling us "I'm not your server" when we asked for water, we decided to move to the bar for service. This is where we were blessed with two bartenders at a dead bar and waited (counted time because the service was a joke at this point) 5 minutes to get us water. We asked about what came in the shrimp dish and they said just rice, soy sauce, avocados and shrimp with a little chili flake. It came out to our surprise with a mayonnaise/aioli base that was never on the menu, this should definitely be added to a menu as it is an allergy and more then doubles calories. Brooke started to take over and help, although friendly at the beginning, things suddenly took a turn with her attitude when we asked what type of sauce we could use on the dry salmon. She really said "well what kind of sauce do you want bc I don't know what pairs with salmon" 1. I asked what you had (you clearly don't know the menu) 2. Never did I once ask you to pair anything for me I will decide when you give me my options. 3. One of the options you said was LEMON and then you brought me a Lemon vinaigrette? Not sure how that occurs. My fiancée had a Macburger, another thing, a company as big as this should notate that there is a thousand island dressing on the burger which is not stated on the menu, another allergy. At this point It wasn't even worth complaining to a manager, be extremely careful eating here if you have food allergies and it is always recommended to bring an epi pen. Employees should not talk back to the guests, learn to be helpful. No wonder everyone I know stopped coming here! read more

Hunter was our server and he was very pleasant and attentive to all of our needs. We decided to dine here for Arizona restaurant week. The specialized menu was $33.00 per person. I had the pretzels for my appetizer (they were pillow soft...so good). The entree was Vegan Curry... absolutely delicious. The dessert was a caramelized banana bar... yummy. Finally, this place is HUGE. They have 2 indoor patio areas, a huge dining room area, and 2 outdoor patios. The restrooms are even awesome, they are all unisex and they have about 6 separate sinks on the outside of the restrooms in case you want to JUST wash your hands. Whether you're stopping by for a cocktail, a nice dinner, sports games, or some fun bar / yard games, they've got it all! It is a huge space. There is plenty of room at the bar, dining area, patio, or game space. We sat in the bar area and enjoyed a Tejeda Spa Water (one of the best drinks), pretzel bites with fondue and chicken wings. This was a great spot to stumble upon after taking my kids to the splash pad. Kids got to play ping pong and bag toss and it wasn't super busy. We ordered deviled eggs and pulled pork nachos to start. Followed by a bacon cheeseburger w/ fried egg, bolognese, chicken and avocado salad and two orders of chicken tenders and fries. The pretzels were the best I've ever had, and the Brussels sprouts were delicious. I got their rotating draft which was a sour, and it was alright, not great not bad. The server told me before ordering that it was getting mixed reviews from patrons, which was nice to know before ordering. Service was great, and the monkey bread was amaaaazing. I had some doubts it we could do it but service was fast and efficient and we didn't take long to decide on our meals so it all worked out. The setting was nice, lots of open air space, though covered for shade. Very casual vibe which is good because we were not dressed up. I started with a Daily Driver - a "juicy pale ale" from Mother Road Brewing. Our server "E" was kind enough to offer a taste before I went all in. It was delicious! For food we had spicy shrimp crispy fried rice, a prime rib sandwich (basically a French dip), and a turkey pastrami sandwich. All were very good and portions generous. We had to pack some of it to go which was my breakfast the next morning. Will gladly return for another meal if ever in the area again. read more
