We visited Heritage Kitchen and Cocktails while in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for the weekend, and it ended up being the best meals of the trip, by far. The Spanish octopus was an excellent start, and The Nightcapper, a bourbon-based cocktail, was outstanding. For dinner, I ordered the pork chop, because I have a hard time passing up a good pork chop. This one was something else. Perfectly cooked, tender, and finished with just the right touch of sweetness. Whatever the chef is doing back there, it works. This was definitely a long way from the pork chops my mom was serving us in the '70s. The whole table loved their food, and even the bread was memorable. Great service, great cocktails, and just an all-around excellent meal with family. Heritage was recommended to us, and I'm very glad we listened. If you're anywhere near Scottsdale, put this one on your list. read more

We were celebrating our anniversary, and the couple we were dining with were also celebrating theirs, so we were especially disappointed by the experience. When we arrived, we were seated at a table in the corner near a leak. The area was extremely hot because the air conditioning was not working and the windows had been opened. In the middle of an Arizona summer, that made an already uncomfortable table even worse. We asked if we could move to an open table for four and were told no. Shortly afterward, another couple who had also been seated near a leak asked to move to the exact table we had requested--and they were accommodated. We raised the issue with Rick, the manager. He said he would check on it, but he never returned to acknowledge the situation or offer an explanation. Before we left, my husband spoke with him again and asked why he had not followed up. Unfortunately, he was dismissive and unapologetic. The food was good, but the overall experience fell short. Our main course took an unusually long time to arrive, and the steak was cold when it was served. On a positive note, Shane provided great service and was the highlight of the evening. Still, between the heat, leak, inconsistent seating decision, delayed cold food, and poor management response, it was a bad experience, particularly for two anniversary celebrations. With so many other restaurant options in Arizona, we will likely choose somewhere else next time. read more

Yelp wants me to tell you what went well...... EVERYTHING. My only hesitation with this review is not being able to get in this place the next time I go. Holy moly, where do I start! Try the sandwich!!!!! I know it's a sandwich right? Lunch time thing.....no. these sandwiches aren't out of this world. We had the Morty and meatball sub (secret off menu, you're welcome). I don't even know how to begin other than it's wonderful ingredients, damaged between bread that can only be described as something between fry bread and focaccia. And the sauces....pistachio butter!?!? Get outta here. The cocktail program is just as wonderful. They have some great savory drinks and some really cool remixes of old fashioned (literally they're take on our own. Fashion is something I've never had before). They even let us try and off the menu drink which was like a liquid summer caprese. Amazing. The service was incredible. So nice, so helpful. So happy that we enjoyed our meals. Even the music is on point like literally the ambience is fabulous. This place is a diamond in the rough. Don't sleep on this one though. I think they're going to get really busy really quickly. So this is the third time we have been back to Heritage Kitchen & Cocktails in 3 weeks - so impressed and my wife loves the place! Once you know how big the sandwiches are, you are on track. We decided to split the Meatball (a new addition on the menu just this week) and the Italian Grinder (one of our fave's) and it was worth it. We knew we would take the other halves home for a dinner snack, so we had a less overloaded lunch today. Casey again was our server, and he saw use getting seated and brought over a bottle of their sparkling wine (they do a deal for $20 or $25) which we enjoy, as we got it last time also. The bottle overflowed significantly on opening so there was a bit of loss unfortunately - however, Casey came back later during our lunch when we had finally finished the bottle and topped us off from the lost portion of the previous bottle - a very kind gesture and certainly was not expected. But he said he wanted to do right. A good man right there. The food as usual, was fantastic - service is exceptional and the ambiance very good - def not a loud place, but certainly has the potential, as there are glass windows behind the bar area so if you have loud talkers at the bar, it bounces back at you - most noticeable if you're sitting at the community table in the middle - the booths are much more protected further back. We have sat at the same seats at the community bar each time we have been there, but it's pretty good and the noise isn't generally a concern - might be later in the evening/night when there is a fuller bar area - we usually are there for a mid-afternoon lunch so it's not so bad. Do yourself a favour and also try the Desert Bloom cocktail - its very good! So, until next time! read more

I have been seeing Heritage a lot recently on social media and it is one of few places that lived up to "the hype." Service was above and beyond. Unfortunately I can't remember our servers name because I waited too long to leave this review but my friend said he looked like James McAvoy, lol. Portions are generous, happy hour prices are fab, and flavor is sock knock-off worthy. I got the GIANT chicken parm and some grilled oysters. Our wonderful waiter, Alix, popped by to see if we had been in before, let us ask questions, and she was more than happy to give us thoughtful recommendations. I did take a little peak to what others were drinking and eating. I couldn't help but think, if their food and drink tastes as good as it's presented, this was going to be a heavenly dinner!! I was excited to say the least. I started off with the Juniper Fog which has Gin, Blackberry, Alpine Liqueur, Amari Bergamot, & egg white. I chose this drink from previous Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. So smooth, so flavorful, went down super easy, and had the right amount of alcohol! I could drink these all day long!! My bf ordered the Casadei Sogno Super Tuscan which was full of flavor and went down really smooth. We started off with the Heirloom tomato panzanella which was out of this world with flavor!! *Chefs kiss* It has whipped ricotta, assuaged, torn country bread, tomato water vinnaigrette, and basil. I can't even put into words how much I enjoyed this starter. So much flavor, so thoughtful with ingredients. Those croutons were packed with flavor. For dinner we ordered Lobster Fidelo Paella and sausage & fennel pizza to share. The Lobster Fidelo Paella was so rich in flavor with large portions of lobster. Every bite was just wonderful and was as good as the first bite. It definitely felt like a guilty pleasure enjoying it!! It's a large pasta dish, so be prepared to share or take some home! The sausage & fennel pizza was hot, super fresh, and delicate. I am not a big fennel fan, but still went for this pizza. It was not overly fennel and I thought it was perfect. Flavor was spot on, temperature was perfect, and I could enjoy this pizza every day. Although we sat inside, there is a nice outside dinning area too, which looked like a nice dinning area! Upon entry it's very nice. The decor and the choice of music's definitely has a good upbeat feeling and vibes. I sat at the bar since they have open seating. If you're more than a party of two, I would say come early or make reservations. The bar staff was nice upon seating. I ordered beef tartar and crispy chicken cesar mezzaluna. Unfortunately, this was a disappointment for both my wife and me on several fronts. Starting with the positives: the interior has a nice modern/industrial look. The outside patio also seemed to have a great vibe. The piatta di pane was also very good, fluffy and well-seasoned. The octopus was tasty as well. Now for the negatives. The prices, especially considering the portion sizes. As I mentioned, the octopus was good, but the portion could have been more generous. The price tag on the prime NY strip was also steep for what ended up being two small strips that didn't look close to a full 12 oz portion. The middle piece shown in my picture was actually the potato croccante. My wife ordered the seasonal market fish (halibut), which unfortunately was overcooked and dry. I don't mind paying for a great meal, but when the negatives outweigh the positives, it becomes an issue. read more

We had the chopped salad and grilled octopus. The salad only needed a little bit of salt and then it was perfect. Lightly dressed, with tasty salami, bits of almonds and a few grape tomatoes. The octopus was really amazing. The spicy nduja (sp?) really gave the dish some depth of flavor, the crispy baby potatoes were perfectly cooked and crispy on the edges, the romesco sauce was flavorful and the few dollops of lemon curd were a nice counterbalance to all of the salty and rich elements. Best of all the octopus was very tender and moist. Service was very professional at the bar by several bar tenders. We sat at the bar so we could get some of the inside cool air as it was very hot and they only had outdoor tables when we made our reservation. We will return to try more dishes. Really enjoyed our first visit to Heritage. We love places like Board and Batten (Mesa), and Heritage did not disappoint. We tried a wide variety of menu items and drinks, and loved all of them. Our service was attentive and helpful. Our server was also very knowledgeable and insightful regarding good menu pairings and items. The ambiance was nice, since the weather was cool, sitting on the patio with warmers and a nearby fire was quite nice. I highly recommend trying Heritage. Here's what we tried: Apps: octopus was incredible. I love octopus and always try to order it, but my wife usually vetoes it. She also was very impressed with this appetizer and we devoured it. Beef tartare was also delicious. If I had only had this as an appetizer, I'd probably rave about it. It was incredible, but following the octopus it was definitely our second favorite. Bolognese was delicious. Meaty and comforting! Highly recommend! I did have to add salt as it was slightly under seasoned, but adding a little salt was NBD. Sausage fennel pizza was outstanding. We had a wonderful dinner here tonight. Aaron provided an excellent, friendly service! The weather was perfect for having the dinner outside - patio is very inviting. We enjoyed Garden Affair and Citrus Samurai cocktails. The menu was enticing, we had a hard time deciding what to try so we shared the bread with charred butter and harissa yogurt, then lamb ribs & spanish octopus. Whole grilled branzino was the special of the day & my husband had pasta bolognese. All the food was flavorful, well seasoned - we thoroughly enjoyed it all! Espresso was nice & strong as it should be. We shared Nutella banana tart which was pretty good but honestly we expected more of it. Personally, I would've preferred more Nutella flavor and a softer tart shell or a basque cheesecake . Wanted to try a new place and happened to stumble upon Heritage Kitchen. We happened to drop in at Happy Hour (3-5 pm) so we were able to sample their cocktails and appetizers at a reasonable price! We tried out their oysters, beef tartare and the Parmesan truffle fries. We also had to get a veggie so we threw a chopped salad in (best decision made!). All of the starters were spot on! The drinks were also so tasty (I got one on the menu and asked our waiter Casey to create one and he nailed it!). I got the Lobster Paella while husband got the Pork Belly. Spot on a delicious! We went in tonight because we saw their chicken Cesar salad sandwich and wanted to try it. It was a 10/10 incredible dressing, the bread was amazing, and homemade chips. We're so stoked because we've found a new favorite! Heritage is chef driven, and the chef has Spanish heritage: The Lobster "Fideo" Paella was so good we wanted to dive into it and swim with the lobsters! Chef Eric used Fideo pasta instead of rice and it was excellent! Our server, Erin, was friendly and guided us to the Patatas Bravas, with other useful info on the food and drinks. In terms of being there when we needed her vs intrusive, she was just right...thanks! Two more things: I love a firepit for hanging out in the evening with friends...there's is nice and right sized! Finally, we recognized the Bar Manager, Aaron, who had gone missing from a different Scottsdale fave...he makes excellent cocktails and runs a great bar! What a great find! We made a spontaneous decision to stop by Heritage Kitchen + Cocktails for the first time last night, and we're so glad we did! We only had time to enjoy happy hour, but it was honestly one of the nicest happy hours we've experienced in a very long time. The hearth pizza sandwiches are a must! We tried the Monty and it was absolutely delicious. Add in the great vibe, fun music in the background, and our wonderful server, Alessandra, and it made for such a fun and relaxing evening. We also had the pleasure of meeting Chef Chris Brugman, who couldn't have been nicer. We discovered we had quite a bit in common, including the fact that he was the chef at one of the restaurants in our golf community, as well as at one of our all-time favorite restaurants in California, where we lived previously. Such a fun and unexpected connection! We live in North Scottsdale and will definitely be back to try more of the menu. We've already been telling friends about this little hidden gem. We came in at around 4:15 on Saturday afternoon and made a reservation just in case. Didn't check the menu beforehand but we made it for happy hour. In terms of happy hour the deals are definitely awesome: $10 margaritas, old-fashioned and martinis plus a lot of bites that are definitely great at that price point. We tried a few drinks and cocktails, which were amazing. Our server Casey, who is also a bartender made a custom drink from my wife according to her preference profile. We sat outside, which is perfect this time of year. We tried the oysters, Parmesan truffle, fries, steak tartar, pork belly, and paella entree, all of which were very good. The flavors were definitely well thought out and just for that reason would be returning. We love Heritage, we took my dad here shortly after they opened to celebrate his retirement. One of the highlights was the octopus dish, best octopus we've ever had. We returned to Heritage this evening to just have a quick happy hour app and order that amazing octopus, but were devastated that the portion size of the octopus this time was nearly 1/3 of the size it was when we ordered it months ago. There were more potatoes on the plate than octopus and it was almost laughable. The price of the dish has stayed the same but the size of the dish was a fraction of what it was the first time. It was really disappointing. We will return for this octopus and if the dish size returns to its original portion size that was worth the $28 you charge, I will change this 3 star review to a 5 star review, but cutting corners like this is not a great way for a new restaurant to keep regulars in the north Scottsdale area. read more

Whether you go with a cocktail on the menu (created with the assistance of High Ball), or leave it up to the bartenders to match your flavor profile - you are in good hands. I've never been an oyster girl, but the grilled oysters topped with chili crunch oil and lime were amazing. Hamachi crudo with grilled peaches in a buttermilk was a fun version of the dish - fresh fish flavor and great texture. Loaded chicken caesar sandwich on HH is a definite win. This place is not going to be around in the next 12 months if they don't step it up. This place seems very confused on what they actually are. Is it a casual pizza kitchen, a cocktail bar (sans the options available to actually call themselves a cocktail bar), or a high end Mediterranean restaurant with paper menus moments before at kinkos. The waitress was lovely and was really trying. That is the only reason for the two stars. BBQ chicken pizza as a special when I was told they didn't have a fennel derived spirit becuase it wasn't Mediterranean enough. Somehow BBQ chicken made the specials though! I ordered the Halibut (one of the specials), lets just say, he died in vain. The parsely it was drenched in was way too overpowering. The squash it was served with was beyond Al Dente. The temperature and way of preparing all the dishes was just so off. I'm flabergasted of the amount of stars on Google. All I can think is the people writing them have very low standards! This restaurant is a 10/10, no question. The service and food were absolutely incredible from start to finish. We began with the bread service, which is a must order. For drinks, I had the London Fog and it was so delicious. We split the chicken Parmesan and the carnivore pizza, and both were some of the best we have ever had. Every bite was perfect. The staff truly made the experience. The bartenders, bussers, and servers were attentive, kind, and genuinely conversational. The food came out quickly, they boxed our leftovers for us, and we had such a great time in the atmosphere. This restaurant is going to do incredibly well in Scottsdale. Saw this place on social media posts and wanted to try it out. We came in without a reservation- on a Saturday afternoon- I get this was risky. The restaurant was definitely busy but when we came in the hostesses weren't super friendly they said we could only sit outside. They said the wait for inside was 2.5 hours which felt odd considering no one was waiting near the host area. I get we don't know everything behind the scenes, but it was definitely off and the whole interaction made me feel odd. My husband and I are an interracial couple and we were dressed casual, I was so irked by the situation I came to see reviews and saw a couple similar reviews to how I was feeling. Worst case scenario, they have a racist and/or judgemantal culture, best case scenario, the hostesses need some customer service training. Bummer either way. Putting two stars instead of one to give a tiny benefit of the doubt in hopes we are wrong. read more

If I could, I wouldn't give this restaurant any stars. As soon as we walked in we were not greeted but judged. There were plenty of tables open and were told to come back at 6:45 with it being 4:30 at the time.
