I was left to decide on a place for a dinner birthday celebration downtown, and this was the spot I decided on for my friend and I after being given some preferences to consider. This restaurant sits inconspicuously at the ground level of the Lancaster Hotel and has gone through many iterations over the years. We were lucky as it was quite empty minus the small bar section. The World Cup quarter finals were playing and had the attention of almost all. There were a small handful of people dining in on a Saturday night. The menu boasted quite a selection with some innovative selections plus reliable favorites. We started with the deviled eggs collection, which if you're a fan of deviled eggs, you must order! All but one was delicious and recognizable as a deviled egg. The one I didn't enjoy had a really sour flavor. The Caesar salad was exactly how I enjoy it! The white anchovies and capers were the perfect addition as was the parmigiana reggiano. The uncut hearts of romaine were nicely stacked. The croutons though were some of the worst I've hard. They were not crunchy, and instead they were reminiscent of stale bread. They needed a lot more butter as well. The Lancaster crab cake was pretty good but not top tier. Some high quality lump back meat would have really elevated this. I really enjoyed the extra thin and crispy potato sticks and frisse that were served with the crab cake. The sweet chile like sauce brought it all together nicely. I sampled some of the pork ribeye requested medium, and wow was it tender and juicy! Definitely a must try if you're a pork fan! My dining partner didn't enjoy the potatoes though and felt they could have been creamier. The sangria I ordered took quite some time to concoct and make its way to my table, but it was a strong and a generous amount. Despite the flaw we found in each dish, we still enjoyed the meal and would welcome a return visit. read more

I had such a great experience as a solo Diner after the Houston Symphony. It was easily accessible and the staff was quick and efficient. The drinks are great and the food is decent. I actually came here for the Caesar salad with shrimp I saw on their website. I do have to say the shrimp was a little overcooked and under seasoned. But the Caesar salad itself was fabulous. I also had the muscles with roses and it was just okay, I feel it could have had more of an added lemon flavor to overcome the fishy taste. I do love a quiet casual dining experience which I did get to enjoy. I love people watching and it provided me an opportunity just to hang out. read more

We dined here last Thursday prior to a production at the Hobby Center. Great location for anything in the theater district. The service was superb. We were warmly greeted by Mark soon after entering the restaurant. Our server, Fernanda, was polite, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the menu. We shared the bacon wrapped figs stuffed with blue cheese as our appetizer. Followed that with sharing the beet salad. The figs could even serve as a dessert! I ordered the beef short ribs-they were fork tender and delicious. My husband enjoyed the rack of lamb. It was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The pasta is normally off menu, but Lancaster had it Friday evening, thanks to my noticing it on a table from a previous visit, and thanks to the recommendation of my favorite server Fernanda when I asked her. The chicken that comes with the pasta and the Caesar Salad is great tasting with its spices. The portion was enough for two meals! Tasted just as great the following afternoon with my take home. And I even had a great off menu iced tea, so to speak, with syrup from the black cherry, thanks again to the recommendation of my favorite Fernanda. Stopped by after a show at Jones Hall which is walking distance - just a block away. This was my first time here. The service was impeccable. We only had a snack - the meatballs, which were amazing. They had a Greek seasoning/style that I feel was very good. I also had the lime tart and it was super good. We had wine and cocktails which were also very good. The bread pudding was a unique brown color compared to the southern Louisiana bread pudding that I'm accustomed to seeing but my husband said it was delicious. I just love this little downtown gem. My friend and I enjoyed a pre-theater dinner, starting with cocktails and fried calamari. The calamari was a tad overdone and chewy. I did enjoy a cup of French Onion soup, which was richly flavored and beautifully executed. I also had the Caesar salad with shrimp, made more delicious by boquerones. The salad was wonderfully prepared, but the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. The Bread pudding was decadent and delicious! This was my first time dining here as "Cultivated F+B." Took my boss here for lunch while he is in from NYC. Haven't been to the Lancaster's hotel restaurant in years. Gold star for me with the boss because lunch was awesome. The ambience was quiet enough for a business meeting and professional. The service was quick and effective. I had the beet salad (half portion) for appetizer and the smoked salmon small plate for my meal. I thought the fish would be cooked (e.g. Hillstone smoked salmon) but it was lox, basically.....But the freshest lox I ever had with great accompaniments. I can't wait to go back on my own! The service and ambiance are top notch at this restaurant in the Lancaster Hotel. Tables are close together but luckily the couple next to us was lovely and we made some new friends. The elote corn dip was not what I was expecting- not a corn salad type dip but more of a runny queso with some corn in it. The flavor was good, though. I was disappointed in the strawberry salad, which doesn't appear to be on the menu currently. The dressing was flavorless, so good choice to eliminate that one. I came here on two occasions. The first visit was just for drinks. The second visit was for breakfast. The drinks and food were fine. It's definitely pricy for what you're getting. Saturday nights seem to be very lively here. I would come back to try their dinner menu. The service is great. They're very helpful and attentive. The seating area is nice. I have visited Cultivated about a half dozen times now, mostly for dinner and a couple times for brunch/ breakfast. We have always made a reservation because it is such a popular restaurant. Many folks enjoy a meal there before walking over to Jones Hall or the Alley Theatre, and the hotel it is located in (The Lancaster) permits valet if you are doing dinner and a show. The valet has always been very professional, the sort of folks you want to tip. There is also some street parking or the Lyric garage nearby, but we usually valet. Cultivated is on the smaller side and to the left immediately after entering the Lancaster hotel. You will see the bar connected to it as well. We like the classic decor and appreciate that they are not trying to be trendy. The staff have always been courteous and professional while remaining laid back. Sometimes the food can take a bit, but it is clearly made fresh and with high-quality ingredients. We have never had an absurd wait time. They are also willing to modify dishes if someone in your party has food sensitivities. Nothing major, so you will not find gluten-free bread or vegan cheese. Cultivated does, however, have alternative milks for coffee and fresh, locally-sourced sorbets that are excellent. We have tried most of the items on the menu and have never been disappointed. Also, hotel guests have a separate dining area on a different floor, which helps minimize crowding. It is a smaller restaurant, so expect to be cozy. It reminds me of restaurants on the US east coast. Lastly, the restrooms are a Dream! They are located in the hotel lobby and are gorgeous. The hotel staff will assist you if you have trouble locating them, and they have always been very pleasant in general. In summary, I recommend making a reservation, dressing at least business casual, valeting, allotting a reasonable amount of time to receive your meal and not expecting gimmicks or trends. Just solid New American food in an intimate atmosphere. If you want a raucous, roaring-good time with everyone Instagramming their hearts out, Cultivated is not the place. Brunch was simple yet (very) satisfying! I'll be honest, I made a reservation and came solely for the Texas waffle. The hubs thumbed his nose at the thought of a "hotel brunch" with so many other options in the city, but he humored me and we were both pleasantly surprised. The service was fantastic and that Texas waffle I was dying to take a photo of was so tasty (Sidebar: I love it when waffles and pancakes have a great flavor and don't need to rely on the syrup to be the hero), and the hubs' American breakfast was yummy also. The drinks were okay. Not very well balanced. The bartender was very friendly. The next morning I came to get some breakfast and use the rest of my credit, so I got the avocado toast ($20) and the eggs Benedict ($22). Both were just alright. I want to start by saying this hotel is beautiful and I loved our Penthouse suite! It was my Birthday so it was a celebration. We went to the Circus du Soleil and decided to come back and have dinner. Our waiter never told us his name, rushed us to order because it was almost 10:30pm when he took almost 10-12mins to come take our drink order then when I tried to order an appetizer he completely turned to the next table and ignored me. Then when he came back I said "we want to start off with" he said no I'm taking the whole order at once because the kitchen is closing. We waited about 10-15 minutes to get our order in and then it took about 45 minutes for the food to come out after placing the order.
