Our food was very good, the poutine was honestly one of the best things I had to eat in a long time. Mixed with the fried egg every bite was genuinely a "perfect bite". I ordered a chai old fashioned. I did not really get that much of a Chai flavor, it tasted more cinnamon than anything else. I would not order again. First off the service was fantastic which is why they got 4 stars. Very friendly and took good care of my pups. The outdoor patio is casual but comfortable to enjoy. And the fresh air felt great. Onto the food. The salted butter bread though tasty was tough to cut and served at room temp. The almond butter and apricot jam were fantastic but the bread was tough to bite. We both got the poutine which he enjoyed, I thought it was bland and lacked much in the way of flavor. Disappointing plus not much in the way of tater tots. They didnt have the doggie menu I saw online which is why I came here but they did make up a beef patty with rice. My dogs ate the beef and played with the rice. I was really looking forward to visiting this cozy café in Williamsburg after reading the reviews. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by a young lady who was very kind. She offered us a table near the door, but since it was quite chilly outside, we requested to sit somewhere away from the draft, which she gladly accommodated by taking us to a table at the back, near the pastries. However, my experience took a turn that led me to give a two-star rating. First, I noticed that the plate on our table was dirty when we were seated, which I set aside without making a fuss. I also observed that the open water jugs on the tables could be better protected, as bugs or dirt might get in them. Our waitress was quick to take our drink orders, and my sister chose a coffee. We ordered the 'Mom tart' to start with, but when it arrived, there was a hair on it. I pointed it out to our waitress, who looked at the plate and, without apologizing, took it away and returned with a new one. The Mom tart was very sweet, specifically a cinnamon flavor, which was a bit too sugary for our taste, but that's just personal preference. Most of the pastries were displayed openly on the counter, which made me uneasy as staff and patrons continuously walked by without any barriers to prevent contamination. Things worsened when I observed the cook preparing food. I noticed a pan of premade sausage and bacon under a heat lamp, and the cook was handling it without gloves. Each time he plated for a meal. When we ordered the 'bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich', our order came out missing the tots. Our waitress went back to the cooks prep station and grabbed a few tots with her bare hands, but after a comment from the cook, she had to return them to the bowl. The sandwich itself was a letdown; the cheese was mostly on the plate rather than melted on the sandwich, and the egg was half off the bread, and with the bacon having been handled without gloves. (Pictures included) When another waitress came to check on us, we asked for the check and requested to remove the sandwich from our bill, as we couldn't eat it. Our original waitress approached, seeming confused and a bit defensive when we explained our concerns, insisting that others enjoyed their bread. We clarified that it wasn't the bread; it was everything else on the plate. In a surprising turn, she told us not to pay for anything. We insisted on paying for the 'Mom tart' and coffee, but she insisted we leave without paying. The café has a charming atmosphere and could benefit from some cleaning, especially with dust on the lamps and windows. Overall, while our waitress was pleasant at first, the food handling and cleanliness issues left a bad impression. I won't be returning, but I understand that some locals may enjoy this place. This cafe looked so eclectic and unique on the inside that I knew I had to visit! There was so much art and random decor on the walls, I loved it! The decor alone, is enough reason to stop in. Now for the food, it was mediocre. The waiter was so excited for me to try the waffle but when I expressed that it was just okay, me and my friend were instantly offered pastries to try. Yum, Yum,Yum! Stopped in soon after they had opened on a Saturday morning to grab some baked goods for breakfast. All of them were delicious! We tried an almond croissant (flakey and light) a homemade blueberry poptart (if those packaged ones were anywhere close to this good, they would be a shortage) and crumb cake (nice strudel topping) Service was excellent and I believe the owner helped me. Since it was still sort of quiet we had a nice conversation before I checked out. Inside there are a good amount of tables to sit and enjoy breakfast or lunch. Found our new favorite spot in Wburg. It was an easy walk from W&M campus, is a must-visit for us from now on. The decor and atmosphere are simply amazing--so much character! From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming. It's so nice to escape from the corporate feel to someplace unique and interesting. The food was a highlight. We had the Salmon and Shrimp bowls were both delicious, and the coffee (we tried the cold brew and an espresso) was excellent. They have a well-curated menu with something for everyone. We finished with a bear claw and cookies which were perfect, if a little too big to finish! We especially enjoyed the relaxed vibe and lack of crazy crowds, even at lunchtime. This is the kind of place you want to settle into and stay awhile (I think we were there over 2 hrs). We'll be back every time we're in town. read more

This place must have been having a bad day considering their other 4 and 5 star reviews. Service was slow (3hrs from start to finish) and the food wasn't even that great once we finally got our meal. We were told they had some employees call out last minute and were frequently apologized to for the long wait throughout the wait but that was it. I could see that affecting service if the establishment was larger but it's a small cafe with a very small menu selection. As some other reviewers pointed out, the pastries and breads were left out in the open on the bar. No sneeze guard and completely open to all the activities going on behind the bar. Also, the wait staff seemed confused by the concept of people coming in to ask for a table. They did this with us and everyone else that came in after us. They had to ask their manager permission to seat us. Guess that should have been our first red flag. read more

With a plethora of pancake houses and breakfast joints along Richmond road, look no further than this quaint little cafe on Scotland Street. All of the food is freshly made and they have an intriguing assortment of drinks made fresh. I ordered a cappuccino and the French toast. I will admit, at first the French toast seemed dry. I gave it a chance though. Diving into it, it was a scrumptious delight. The combo of fruit, syrup and fresh bread truly can't be beat at the run of the mill pancake house. Let's start with the positives... the staff was so kind and very attentive and we were seated immediately. There was water on the table - basically serve ourselves - no ice and it was room temp and we weren't offered any ice. I had no idea that we had arrived an hour before the restaurant was going to close earlier for a special event. Unfortunately because of this, it left us completely underwhelmed. Ordered the tomato soup... it was lukewarm. The meatballs were lukewarm. I was super excited about the beef tips and rice - it came on a hot, iron skillet - a tasty dish. Food was tasty, but it was served lukewarm and I even felt a bit queasy after the meal. The food just did not sit well with my husband and had ended up feeling very queasy after our meal. I had high hopes for this place especially because the reviews were so great. There are a lot of eats in the area and it's not often we dine out, so we will most likely not be coming back. Even though this place wasn't for us, I am not going to say it might not be for others. Wow! We had a fantastic experience today for a late lunch.. Cocktails were fabulous, we tried the cappuccino martini & the chai old fashioned. Unbelievably smooth! Thegrain bowls were tasty (one with tofu and the other with chicken Tikka), bakery items we tasted were fantastic. Sausage roll,olive bread and other freshly baked breads to include bread donuts (everything bagels) Staff were very friendly, kind. VEGANS/VEGETARIANS DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! Last time I came here I ordered the vegan meatball sub.... The waiter came I noted that it tasted funny and asked what it was made of. He said it was some vegan mixture. After eating I went to the bathroom and on my way out the cook started talking to me. I then asked what the sub was made of and he said patea, and I asked what it was. He said MIXED ANIMAL PARTS. I then heard the lady behind him mutter it was supposed to be vegan and his face turned bright red. I immediately ran outside and cried. My mom paid the tab which they did not offer to get rid of. I didn't want to make a fuss because the guy seemed nice and I could tell it was genuine mistake and didn't want to get him fired. I spent a good 2/3 hours after pulling the trigger and chugging salt water, making myself throw up. I know to a lot of people this may not seem like a big deal but it felt like a HUGE violation. Eating an animal to me is the equivalent to eating a human, I just never ever want to do it and felt so gross knowing I had consumed a carcass. After this I didn't eat out for months. I will never be returning and I hope they take stuff like this more seriously. Herbivores please beware!!!! read more

Stopped by here for brunch with my gf for our day trip in Williamsburg and this place has easily become our new favorite to stop by while in the city! The decorations of the place offer a cool quirky vibe that you don't see very often which makes it one of a kind. The staff we encountered were great and super nice! We ordered a bunch of stuff including spiked coffees, the baguette with Brie cheese, fried cheese curds, the truffle poutine, and the culture burger. The true star of the show was the fried cheese curds that had the cheese pull of a lifetime that tasted amazing and then the poutine that my gf got that had incredible flavors and alsooooo loaded with cheese. Tbh we got a bunch of cheese foods and didn't mean to butttt we still loved everything. The only thing we felt kind of meh about was the baguette with Brie. I've been here more than a few times and always get the Frankie Goes to Bollywood. Such an awesome dish that just has a myriad of flavors for your palate. But. Today. I tried breaksfast and it just didn't hit the spot. My companion got the warm baguette with cheese and sausage and the bread was overcooked that she couldn't even bite or cut into it. I got the frittata and it was just okay. Not really popping with flavor- just bland. We had water at the table that was warm and tasted fresh from the tap. I'll be back- but not to order bfast. Every aspect of this place is practically perfect, except the parking situation, but it's downtown Colonial Williamsburg- what do you expect? This place is as hipster as it gets, which is saying a lot given current restaurant trends in the 'Burg. The ambiance is adorable and cozy, but the place is spacious. Come before the sun sets for perfect lighting for the obligatory instagram. It's a great dinner date spot, but their fabulous coffee menu puts them at the top of my brunch spot list, too. I love how the menu is always changing! I still miss some favorites of bygone eras, but the latest menu's kielbasa with pierogies makes up for the loss of my beloved Vietnamese mini-sandwiches. I will say the pierogies lack a traditional vinegar tang, but they're their own unique brand of delicious. At this point, I've had half the menu. On my latest trip, a friend and I shared the kielbasa, the red curry shrimp tacos, the Korean wings, and the burrata. That latter cheese and figs plate makes the perfect dessert! I recommend the chicken and waffles as the all-time crowd pleaser (if you can actually convince anyone to share). I personally don't think of this place as overpriced. You get a good amount of food for your money and some of the "small plates" are sizable enough for a whole meal. Service is great, and though I haven't taken advantage of their bar, the happy hour specials looked amazing. read more

My daughter had the Impossible burger and said it was perfectly cooked. She's been eating Impossible for almost three years now and has had Impossible done badly, nothing lacking here! Only eaten here at lunch, so haven't tried the cocktails or beers on tap. My daughter did enjoyed the rose water-lemonade. Staff was so friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The bacon was perfect. The sausage looked unappetizing on my plate...better presentation would have helped. My DIL ordered something with over easy eggs on a plank. One of the eggs was clearly overcooked. The other was fine but it was challenging to keep it on the plank. Maybe it was lucky to have one egg overcooked. I'd probably try this restaurant again. The place was incredibly busy, and the food and service were still top-notch--my dad and I ordered the chicken pasta, my mom got sesame-crusted fish with veggies and rice, and we got fried cheese curds for all of us to split.
