Came to Culver's for one simple thing: VANILLA. You know... the flavor that's literally the foundation of half your dessert menu. Somehow a place famous for frozen custard managed to run out of the most basic flavor on earth. That's like a pizza place running out of dough or a gas station being out of gas. I stood there in disbelief while my entire order--and frankly my trust--crumbled in front of me. No vanilla means no normal concrete, no classic shake, no peace in my life. I wasn't asking for some rare unicorn Flavor of the Day... I asked for VANILLA. The default setting of ice cream. Do better, Culver's. This was a custard catastrophe. The drive through line was out into the drive outside the parking lot but truly went by pretty quick: they have a good system to get orders processed efficiently and then walk out orders to your car. The girl taking orders over the intercom was very helpful in explaining ingredients and helping me choose the sizes and flavors I wanted: really patient and didn't rush me at all! I've been looking for a place to get some good fish. I need not look any further! This place has the best! Nice and crispy and not at all greasy. My husband and I split a 3 piece meal (I don't eat much) and it was a great plenty for us. The meal comes with the three pieces of cod (very nice size pieces too), a dinner roll, and two sides. We chose french fries (they have the best) and onion rings. There was a small up charge for the onion rings, but they were totally worth it. Culvers is ALWAYS very busy, but the line moved rather fast.......at least it did the first time we got this meal. It was so good we got it a second time, but that time we ordered in advance and was able to bypass the line by parking in the parking lot and waiting for someone to run it out to us.......that service was pretty speedy too. And everyone is just so darn friendly. I doubt that we will ever get fish to go elsewhere ever again. It was THAT good. I have been do a number of Culver's restaurants in my time and this one was a bit lackluster as compared to the other Culver's restaurants in town (notably, the one at 28th and Beltline area.) First off, the drive-thru at this location gets bogged down easily and the drive-thru doesn't seem to have priority, so the food just doesn't seem as fresh as what you get eating in. The other issue I have with this location is that the food quality and/or preparation seems to be inferior to almost every other Culver's I've visited. The meat on the burgers is over-seared (often actually burnt) and the sandwiches are not assembled as well (toppings falling out one half with the other half being bare, burger patties stacked wonky, etc.) Lastly, the service and cleanliness of this location is inconsistent and a bit under-par for their sister locations. All in all, this is probably one of the poorest examples of a Culver's I've been to. That being said, I still think it's superior to either Freddy's or **brrr*** Steak 'n Shake (both my boys will still sometimes request to go to Culver's, but both of them refuse to go back to either of those other two.) read more

Well. I have been to this location twice and have some observations. The employees are very friendly and helpful. The location is easy to find and get into and out of. The service is pretty fast. I have touched some of the wood surfaces by the soda machines and ketchup dispensers, and they need a good workout with soap and water. They felt greasy. However, the food I have had is nothing to write home about. The hamburger patties are over cooked; with blackened meat all around the edges of the patty and they are mostly cold. Additionally, the cheese slices are unmelted and the overall product is barely warm. Fries were good. I liked the choice of diet root beer to drink. I would say this place is just ok but I can get a better burger down the street at Wendy's, which is what I think I will do next time. read more

How can the price of a small Happy Hour shake jump for $1 to $1.30? Did their wholesale prices go up 30%, I doubt it. Then, as I travel about Michigan, I find that this locations pints of custard are more expensive than even a resort city, such as Traverse City. And my last complaint...people don't sign up for e-news just to hear about a new flavor. They sign up for DEALS. About one out of every seven newsletters has a coupon or discount (and then it's normally $1). The other newsletters are simply a waste of my opening and reading time.
