I've been having electrical issues with my 2005 Tacoma. I typically take my vehicle to an independent mechanic due to cost, but I chose the Toyota dealership because I expected an accurate diagnosis and repair done correctly the first time. After two days in and a $200 diagnostic fee, I was informed that my aftermarket stereo--installed and functioning without issue for 15 years--was causing electrical feedback and was responsible for the problem. I was also told that the issue could not be repaired. During my discussion with the technician, the explanation was obvious he didn't know what he was talking about. I took my truck to a stereo shop. They quickly determined that the actual problem was a failing starter. Once the starter was replaced, the electrical issue was fixed. Two months later I still haven't had the problem. read more

The used car service team seems to be very incapable of the simplest of services. I purchased a used '22 Tundra from them in Sept and according to the carfax provided by them they did all maintenance on the vehicle including a lift kit and some modifications to the front end. Within 45 days of owning the vehicle I had to replace ball joints that had obviously never been greased when installed by the dealership in July '24. I have also had to replace the sway bar end links since when the kit was installed the links were never properly tightened. I attempted to contact my salesman Joel who swiftly blocked my number. After two days of trying to get a manager on the phone I was told that they don't have the carfax; therefore, they can not take liability for the mis-installation and tried to turn the damage around on to me. Would not trust them to do something as simple as an oil change with the incompetence shown. read more

DO NOT TRUST Cumberland!! I bought a new Prius here a couple years ago and have had them service it religiously. I don't know why I extended them my trust as they had returned my Prius V several years ago from an oil change boiling smoke out of it .. they had to come pick it up with a tow truck. Apparently they had left something disconnected that was spewing oil and started a fire. My neighbor, who bought a new Camry Hybrid there told me that they had returned his car after service, pouring oil onto his driveway .. it was 2 quarts low. They said they had cleaned his battery terminals and they were "blooming" with corrosion and that they weren't torquing the wheels to spec when rotating. So this time, when I took my car in, I had words with the service manager and then his manager .. apparently, the GM's time is more important than mine .. and told them SPECIFICALLY not to touch my tires as I had just bought them at Costco and would have them maintained there. I get my car back and right there on the inspection sheet they have tire rotation checked. So I called them up and they said they had done as I said and not rotated tires but there it was checked. So basically, nothing on their inspection check list could be trusted. Did they in fact even change the oil???? The Service/Parts manager told me that the guys on "that side" got paid by the job whereas the ones in the other service area were paid by the hour. So I guess that's his excuse as to why they are cutting corners and lying to people. This dealership is so far down the Toyota totem pole that they never have any inventory .. I've been wanting to drive some of the newer models to buy another but they don't call me when they're in, despite them saying they would. I don't know if it's just the small town thing but this place is a disaster, they will lie to your face and any loyalty you show them as a customer will not be reciprocated. They're just coasting on Toyota's reputation and Toyota should strongly consider pulling their dealership. read more

I had a great experience buying from Cumberland Toyota. I was shopping them against several other dealers for my next car. I backed out of the deal because of a rare color preference. Brandon Davidson offered to look for a car in that rare color. I was skeptical as I was shopping on all of the big online websites as well as Toyota.com and knew that there were few of this car (GR Corolla) with the color (Heavy Metal) and trim (Premium Plus) that I wanted. The next day he let me know that he had located a car that fit my criteria and he worked up a deal sheet with an out the door price that I liked. I then hit him with, "What if I want to trade in my old car?" He ran the numbers and a CarFax check and let me know that the CarFax had a mistake on it. I reached out to CarFax and had them fix the error which added several thousand dollars of value to my trade-in. Brandon reworked the deal with the new increased value of my trade and arranged to have the car I was to buy transferred to Cumberland Toyota. He was putting in a lot of effort and faith in me as a customer. I am very happy with the deal that I was given on my new car as well as the value that was offered on my trade. After the new car arrived at the dealership, I drove over from Knoxville in my trade-in to finalize the paperwork and take possession of the new car. They assessed my trade and everything went as it was supposed to. I inspected the car that they had transferred in and noticed that the other dealer had not completed the prep. Cumberland took the car back to the service department and completed the delivery prep and the car was ready in 15 minutes. Vanessa Neal had about half a dozen things for me to read and sign. I read them thoroughly and got them signed in around 10 minutes. I was looking for the sneaky dealer "Gotchas" like hidden agreements for arbitration, etc. Cumberland Toyota didn't try anything shady with me at all. They are the first dealership that I have dealt with in 35 years of buying cars that didn't try to sneak something in on me. I went to the finance office with Andy Claborn to finalize all of the paperwork and arrange for payment from my bank. Andy was great and didn't try to upsell me on extended warranties or Gap insurance or paint protection or any other fluff. He had about five or so documents to read and sign and I was finished in about 10 minutes. Now the car was mine! When Lexi Buckler took me to my new car, she assisted me with all of the setup of my phone, the Toyota app, CarPlay etc. Lexi then took the time to show me how to adjust the vehicle settings to calibrate the heads up display and how to set the different performance modes of the car. Lexi was patient with me and knowledgeable about all of the features, settings and sub-menus related to the car. In conclusion, The staff at Cumberland Toyota are actually delivering on the standards that all car dealers claim to have. They are honest and put in the effort to make the best deal on whatever specific car that someone is looking for. I feel like they invested time and energy as well as trust in me and treated me like they would want to be treated. I will shop Cumberland Toyota in the future for both of my daughters as well as my wife and I. I recommend anyone shopping for a Toyota to email every dealer around them as well as Cumberland Toyota. I've bought several cars over the last 15 yrs and never have I had a dealership hold a lower interest rate over my head only to get it if I bought their extended warranty. I have excellent credit and this was just an ugly tactic. I've seen many reviews now on Yelp about this same situation with the finance department. This is what gives dealerships a bad name. I took the higher interest rate bc of principle when I should have taken the extended warranty bc I told them I knew I qualified for close to that lower rate and then I could've cancelled the extended warranty within 30 days. I should've played their game right back but I am human. Love my car but need to cont AC t corporate and post other reviews so people know what they're getting into there. read more

Horrible place to do business. Told me I could not buy a new car for MSRP unless I financed with them. They give you the run actlng like they have the vehicles available but they dont and have to locate them like other dealerships to try and steal business from other dealerships. You ask them for numbers out the door upfront but wont provide them and then ask you to pay a deposit upfront to secure a vehicle without even knowing the numbers or figures. When you call them out on it and tell them you arent interested in doing business with them anymore they continue to text you and make nasty comments so you block them only to have their general manager call you on his personal cell phone, to continue the insanity , you up only to get a text message calling your a keyboard warrior, and he texting you saying he dont appreciate you talking down to his sales staff, like your his child and he has to scald you for it. I dont understand the need for the call, I already said no business was going to be conducted and moved on, so why would he feel the need to call me from his personal cell phone to keep the insanity going. I had an appointment for service at 10:30 this morning. I pull into an empty service bay and park my car. I've never been here before. (inside the service bay) I grab a couple things to take in and notice Travis Fitzpatrick walking out. He looks at me and doesn't say anything. Then he gets on the phone. I notice he isn't saying anything and it looks like he's on hold, so I asked him if should I go inside or sit in the car and wait. He then tells me and an extremely rude, loud and aggressive tone that he's on the phone and he'll be with me when done. So, I go inside and ask what I'm supposed to do because the rude guy outside wasn't helpful at all. Then, I just changed my mind and decided to leave l. I didn't want to have them service my car. So I walk back out and say politely, "you could have just said yes or no, there was no need to be like that". Then he pipes off again and I tell him have a good day buddy, to which he rudely replies in a loud and aggressive tone again, "you too ,BUDDY!!!!!".... So I park my car and go inside and ask who I can talk to. Then he walks up like he's about to attack me and says "that'd be me" and proceeds to tell me how rude I was again, so I wanted to talk to the person above him and he'd be back Monday. I leave and call, trying to talk to someone else, and somehow he ends up back on the phone. I told him he's not who I need to talk to. So, I sent e-mails to Joby Allen hoping he can help me resolve e this matter of a completely, rude, aggressive and out of line service"manager". I've seen better temperament in pit bulls. This guy should be nowhere near customers. At the end of the day, I don't need a "manager" aggressively posturing to me and yelling at me for something that could have been so simple. Next time, maybe talk to the customer when you make eye contact instead of ignoring them and getting in the phone, acting like that aren't there. Or, maybe just say hold on, I'll get you in a minute. Anything would have worked besides what he said and how he acted. This is completely unacceptable behavior. Oh, and I bought a 50k Tacoma at the same dealership a few months back, all cash. I won't be doing that there again, or giving them any service at all while he is working there. Totally unacceptable. This guy should be fired immediately. On our initial visit to Cumberland Toyota we met with Brandon Whacker a sales rep. Brandon was very pleasant and seemingly very honest. He told us up front that the dealership will add $2000 on top of MSRP on any Highlander. Also told us up front that there would be an additional $2000 added if we paid cash. We didn't like these additional costs but thought his honesty was refreshing for a dealership. Then the finance department took over and honesty left the building. I'll start with the running board we asked for but did not come with the car from the factory. We asked the finance guy to add a running board. He quoted a price of $1459.70. Not knowing the price of a RB we said ok. We found out later by accident that the parts department sells the RB for $499. So they charged $1000 for the install. WOW. Afterwards we called around and found several other dealers offering them for $800 installed. Next came the loan interest rates. Like many other reviews over the YEARS they offered us a ridiculously high interest rate. But will offer you a decent rate if you purchase the, "Holiday Sales", overpriced extended warranty! Lies and manipulation to get the buyer to spend money they probably can't afford! Lastly they spelled my wife's name wrong on all paperwork. When we asked them to change it they assured us if we signed the papers the actual papers being sent out would have the correct name. They did not. BUYERS BEWARE THIS DEALERSHIP!!! I brought my Highlander in because the air conditioner was not working. The service department called to inform me that the car was spurting oil everywhere and that the oil pipe was completely rusted through. The technician suspected that the oil leak was causing the air conditioner problem. The part would need to be ordered and should be in on Friday. I called on Wednesday to check on the car and asked if Cumberland Toyota had rental cars in case the part did not come in because we were leaving on vacation early Saturday morning. I was told that the body shop had rentals but to let them see what they could do. They called me on Thursday morning and told me that my car was ready! The technician had come in on his day off and worked into the night. I have had my Toyota for 7 years and have never experienced such stupendous customer service and felt that the service department cares about me as a customer. I can never thank them enough. Coming in on your day off was unheard of at my last dealership. I am now a lifetime Toyota customer. read more

I was working with them to purchase a new Tundra. Currently have over an 800 credit score, they were mandating me to purchase the over priced extended warranty so they could "buy down" the interest rate. I asked what do you mean buy down. I have an excellent score, there should be no need to. The advertised price was discounted $3500 off MSRP, but they told me, if I didn't buy through Toyota financial and buy the extended warranty then I would have to pay MSRP, purchase gap through them, they wouldn't give me as much for my trade and the interest rate was going to be "much" higher. The rate they "bought down to" was 5% higher than I could get on my own through numerous other banks. While working with them, the price fluctuated numerous times. Seemed they were adjusting line items to try to sneak in additional money. read more

There are a few red flags and I don't feel comfortable bringing my business back. TLDR: Work was performed that I did not request and I was charged for some service I was told would not be at my expense. Full narrative below. My '02 Tacoma was having some minor starting issues that quickly developed into my truck being unable to start. Despite my family having bad experiences at this business before, I decided to give Cumberland Toyota the benefit of the doubt and brought my car in for a diagnostic. The quote I received from Toyota was roughly 160$ at the time for a simple diagnostic. The business called back asking permission to dig deeper into the car (specifically my security system) to properly diagnose the issue. I specifically asked if this would increase the bill, as this would change my approach. The young lady on the phone replied No. The next day, I get a call saying that my issues are fixed and I am politely informed the bill is 480$ Upon going in person to pick up the car, I was informed the bill included 4 hours labor for fixing the security system, as well as replacing a fuse and wires in the ignition, though the latter two were done for free. Because of the discrepancy on the bill, I asked for a more detailed explanation of them work and bill, and I tested the ignition before paying to make sure everything was done correctly. The car started up like a charm so even though there were some miscommunications it seems the work was done properly. As the work was performed correctly and fixed my issues despite not stating to do so, I explained that I need to be informed of these things before they are performed and billed to me and did not press the issue any further, simply paying the bill. Overall, the staff were quite polite in person and over the phone, the actual inside of the business looked a bit dirty and unprofessional but nothing alarming. The major miscommunications regarding services being charged to me, and the fact that services were performed without my consent, are quite alarming though, and they present as red flags to me. I have no animosity or anger towards the staff as everyone was quite respectful, however I will be taking my business elsewhere next time my truck needs serviced. (Every dealership on the strip is owned my the same guy, I recommend going to Cookeville Honda.) read more

These people represent everything you hate about buying a new vehicle. It was by far and away the worst experience Ive ever had. I ordered a new Tundra in May of 2022 and one finally arrived that was nothing like what I ask for but I was led to believe it would be at MSRP so I figured I could deal with it. I was then hit with 5k over MSRP plus several other junk fees, basically told that I had to purchase the $3000 extended warranty and had no choice but to finance it through them. Then they hit me with the 14% interest rate when I have excellent credit but said "they might be able to work on that a little bit since I was buying the warranty"?? It sickens me that I wasted 8 months dealing with Cumberland Toyota but I have never been so happy to walk away from anything in my life. Saturday around lunchtime, my electric windows on the passenger side lock. One is stuck completely down and one is up. Frustrating. Where do I go? Dealership because I don't have a trustworthy mechanic. And the dealership may not be the most money saving, but it is their brand, and on a Saturday, what do you do? Get it working and get out of there. Oh, and I got an oil change too. I left the car for several hours since I wasn't in a rush. I got errands done and squeezed in a nap. Thankfully, the dealership didn't hit me with a $500 bill for the "modules" for each electric window. I got the estimate. With oil change, taking the door panel off, playing with the wires, etc, I was out the door for $116. I've left 2 messages with friends and will ask on Facebook for reliable competitor prices for this service. PRO: didn't get surprise costs CON: not sure if the parts are "necessary" read more

They told my parents that if they wanted to pay cash rather than finance, they would tack on an extra $2000 above MSRP. I requested a cash price breakdown on their website and there was no such charge. I showed the website breakdown to the salesperson and she pointed to the disclaimer saying that the price could fluctuate due to inventory availability. I had run the numbers the day before. Their inventory didn't fluctuate since yesterday. They're just not advertising this extra charge. Other, more reputable dealers aren't doing this, even if you've heard that they are. Don't let them fool you. Walk away. By the way, my parents are senior citizens and they were very confused by all this. They hadn't purchased a car in a long time. They felt like they were being swindled but thought they didn't have a choice. We were expecting to pay full price for the car due to the shortage, but these guys are going too far. Busy service department. I usually do my own oil changes, tune ups and brakes, but couldn't get at the fuel filter on my aging Camry. So, I took it there. No problem and reasonably priced; and the old girl now has much more pep. When I look at the new ones, no one is hovering over you making you uncomfortable. Refreshing change from the Florida dealerships. I also drove the 2018 Camry Se there recently. I was also offered a test drive by myself on a later visit, which I took a rain check on. Great improvements to the Camry. Price I was offered on a new one didn't really line up w/ the deals I see other buyers getting online. Hope I don't have to go to Knox or Nash when I'm ready to buy. 1/23/2018 Edit- I called for more service on one of my vehicles. The person who often answers the phone isn't a service advisor. She tries to get you to set up an appointment w/o giving you a price. She's not a SA, so she can't give you that info. She's trying to do an end run on the service advisor's commission, but is not qualified to answer any questions. If you insist on being put through to get those questions answered first, she will not put you through. That is my take on what I experienced when I last called. I worked in the repair side of the biz and never heard of a situation like this. You all should clean up your in house issues and stop people who aren't qualified from trying to do an end run like this. Plus I had to call like 4 times and give the first, unqualified person my appointment and then I told the SA what was going on and to change the apt over to her name. I was told to book a room for 4 nights till they could order and replace a Prius battery, with labor for $4,200!! First it is 3 times too much, and I was an older lady trying to get home to Marietta, GA. I was told by a mechanic "no way", you will not make it. Well guess what? I did make it and still driving. As far as the Toyota service dept goes, it is Mickey Mouse. Been using Toyota service dept since 05 and we'll never be back. We have a 10 Camry and a 11 Tacoma. We took the Camry in for a oil change only to find out at the next service they didn't change the old oil filter because it "didn't need it". What? Another time my wife had the 30,000 service done. After waiting 3 hours she went and asked how much longer. It was ready an hour earlier. i also got a follow up phone call. i told them the same story and she said someone would be getting in touch with me. i haven't heard a word. bottom line is i don't trust them. i mean who doesn't change the oil filter during a oil change? what other service did they not do that i "had done"? update 3/26/2011.....my wife just called from Toyota Knoxville, they charged her $7 for a lug nut that Cumberland Toyota must have left off. My experience w/ Cumberland Toyota started off great - but as with many used car sales, the customer service was non-existent once I left the lot. My wife and I had spent the better part of 3 days at the very end of April 2018 driving all over middle Tennessee looking for a solid 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck to pull our 36-ft toy hauler. After multiple test drives and a few out-of-pocket mechanical inspections, we found an ad for a truck at Cumberland Toyota in Cookeville. We drove the 2 hours east to go have a look. We met with our salesman, Paul Dean, and quickly discovered that the truck we'd come to look at was a bit "rough" and wasn't for us. We decided to look over their used car lot and found a really clean 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie 4x4 crew-cab w/ the legendary 6.7L Cummins diesel. It had 163,000 miles, so it was "well-used" but overall the condition of the cab and body were excellent. The engine compartment and underbody were also clean and I was assured that the truck was "thoroughly inspected" by their mechanics and was in good shape, mechanically. Let me state, for the record, Paul was great - very patient and did his best to answer our questions. I have zero complaints with the service we received from Paul. As a salesman, he did his job. He didn't pressure us or mislead us - I say this not knowing whether he was aware of the truck's issues, but my gut tells me that he didn't know the truck was a ticking time bomb - continue reading . . . After a good test drive, we negotiated a fair price and purchased the truck "as is" with cash. Don't get me wrong, I know what "as is" means. I've bought a number of used vehicles with the "as is" condition. I've had a few surprises over the years but nothing like this . . . We are now at 6-wks since purchase. So far, we've dropped $11,000 for "big" repairs including, blown head gasket and warped head ($4K), trashed transmission that was too far gone for rebuild, had to be replaced ($5K), and just today, replaced radiator, thermostat, several hoses and a few belts ($2K). Mind you, all these repairs have been in the last 2 weeks. The wife and I started our trip across country, TN to CA on 19 May. I'd put approximately 1,000 miles on the truck when, outside of Dallas, TX, on 21 May, the head gasket repair was needed. The mechanics that did the work stated that the head gasket had been "blown" for some time - they could tell from the pitting and damage to the head. This is a very easy thing to test and the mechanics at Cumberland should have been able to identify this before they put it on their lot. Likely, the previous owner blew the head gasket and, knowing how expensive the repair is, simply took it in to trade. Thanks buddy! Cumberland either was too lazy to do the test for this common problem with used diesels, especially the 6.7L Cummins, or perhaps worse, knew the problem but decided to push off the truck on some unsuspecting customer, in this case, the sap was me . . . At about 1,500 miles since purchase, now in Amarillo, TX, after the transmission "grenaded", I wrote Paul and asked if Cumberland would "do the right thing" and split the repair costs 50/50, despite the "as is" = no warranty. Paul stated he'd discuss with management and get back to me. A few days later, the answer was an emphatic "no". Stated that they inspect their used vehicles to the best of their ability and the "as is" = no warranty. Today, after repairs in Las Vegas, NV, I stand looking at our "clean" 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 that's spent the better part of 2 weeks of the 6 weeks we've owned it in various repair shops. Remember, this occurred on our trip across country, mind you, so each time the truck decides to "take a crap", we have to find a shop that can do the work in a timely manner, find a place to camp, and rent a vehicle to get around while we wait for my truck to be repaired. I've never dreaded getting into any vehicle I've owned, wondering if it's going to make it to the next destination. It is not a good feeling. I'll wrap up this review to say that I'm very disappointed with Cumberland Toyota in Cookeville, TN. Best case, they are incompetent and do not care about their customers after they get your money. Worst case, they will knowingly screw their customers for a few bucks and you can forget about any service after the sale. I'd steer clear if I were you. It is not worth the stress to have a used vehicle you can't trust to get you across town or to deal with a company that will not stand by their product. read more

We have purchased 4 vehicles from this dealership, both new and pre-owned. We began having trouble with a Prius we had purchased from them...the red ! attention light would intermittently turn on. I was away from home and asked my wife to take the vehicle to the service department. They took the car back as she waited, then came back in less than an hour and told her the vehicle needed a major tune up. She agreed and they did the work, charging her over $250.00. When she left, she noticed the light came on before she got home. When she called back to let them know it was still having the same issue, she was essentially told that they did not know what was wrong with the car and they had done all they could. I was furious, as I felt they had taken advantage of the fact that she was a female and that English was not her native language-and let me be clear, she speaks with an accent, but has no trouble being understood. I took the car out myself when I came home the following day, noticed the light came on mostly in curves and when braking, as if it was a fluid level...so I checked the oil. It was two quarts low. And had not been changed with the "major tune up"or, obviously, even checked. How do you charge someone for a major tune up and not even check the oil? The answer? They took advantage of her. Plain and simple. I have spoken with representatives of the service department on several occasions, including the service manager twice...and all I was ever told was "we wouldn't do that. That certainly never happened here". No apology, no attempt to rectify or even investigate the situation. Either their treatment of her, or the fact that they performed substandard work. I am giving them an opportunity today to make up for it. I have taken another vehicle in with a complaint of intermittent electrical problems, dying, lights flashing off and on. We'll see what they try to charge for this time...and will know for a fact if they are honest or if they are as unscrupulous as I suspect they are. I will update this review when the verdict is in. UPDATE: after keeping the vehicle for 9 hours, they said they couldn't figure out what the problem was. $48.50 to tell me they don't know what's wrong with it or how to fix it. I would really like to put 0 stars,but since that is not an option, I will give one star. I had some recall work done on my car and while it was there, they decided I needed something else done to it, before they could do the recall work. Not knowing any better I told them to go ahead and do that work also. It cost me an arm and a leg or two. Then, I found out from a friend that she had the exact same thing happen to her, but they did not charge her anything. When I tried to talk to someone about this, I got the runaround. And for some reason they would NOT let me make an appointment with the general manager to discuss this problem. Anyway, I would not recommend dealing with this dealership.
