The food is delicious, I always get their papusas and fried plantains. HOWEVER. Delivery service is extremely unpredictable, they might as well not even advertise it. I was told by one person that they deliver until 8pm, then told by another person that they "don't have delivery today". It seems there is only one guy that does delivery, and if he isn't there, well then tough s**t, you don't get your food. The staff could do to learn a little bit better english as well; they always have to hand off the phone to somebody which wastes a lot of time. So, in short. My daughter and I checked this spot out this weekend, with a restaurant.com coupon we found. Very rarely do I find a spot that offers coupons that I would want to go back to. I will be back soon! The food was wonderful, everything was very authentic, great flavor and seasoning. I ordered the Plato Mixo a combination of Shrimp, Beef, and Chicken. It was alot of food for $15.95, I took half of it home and ate it for dinner. My daughter had a NY Strip Steak and it had such a great flavor. We ordered calamari and Pupusa's for appetizer. I didn't care for the calamari we ordered, I believe it was frozen. But, the other dishes were all authentic, homemade, and fresh. My husband ordered the fried fish, friend ordered the pacayas, other friend ordered the carne asada, brother ordered a tamal, I ordered the tacos everything was delicious. I can't wait to go back! We brought some caucasian friends and they loved it too. He said a couple of things about the tacos, "The chicken was all dark meat...C'mon man! " "The tortillas were supposed to be flour but they had a mushy & mealy texture and flavor." First of all this is real authentic Guatemalan food, you can't come and expect americanized food. For example, hard shell tacos is american. The typical corn soft tortillas is Mexican. The tortillas made here are hand made authentic tortillas, that's what the real ones look like, that's what people in Guatemala eat. Guatemalan's aren't picky eaters, white meat vs dark meat, we put the whole chicken in our soups, we sometimes put a whole leg in a tamal with bone and all! I love hole in the wall places. From the outside, the windows are tinted so that you can't see in. It almost looks abandoned. Frequenters of Cuna Del Sol will know better. Upon entering, the restaurant floor is a humble, frill-free layout. If you notice, you will see true Guatemalans and other Latinos sitting with family and friends and you know this is the real deal. Service is friendly and attentive. The menu is expansive and it has a little bit for everyone, especially for any one looking to play it safe with burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches. We had a variety of pupusas, a chicken tamal, a tipico el sol, and tacos al carbon.We loved every single dish and took all the leftovers home. A note to Mexicans: the Guatemalan tamal is very different from the Mexican one. I'm personally more of a Mexican style tamal, but I did get thrown off by the difference in styles. Very authentic Guatemalan food. I would definitely go back, but be sure you're ready for the real thing. This is not Mexican food! It's different and I had a few friends that were thrown off by it. They do have fajitas for those who like what their accustomed to. The irate time we went we dove right in and for five people ordered take out. It was a ton of food (we spent $80) but we also got some of the more expensive dishes. The chicken guasada was one of my favorites but they had great papusas and sopes. I was concerned that there weren't many reviews and wondered if 5-star rating was warranted. We had tacos and papusas, my Central American friends told me they were very authentic. If you want authentic Guatemalan food, this is your place. It is not a Tex mex kind of place like most restaurants. I recommend two things, the garnachas, they are very good and tasty. They are an appetizer but come in 5 I believe and are very filling. I also recommend the chicken soup. It is a lot of food though, it comes with the broth/veggies and on a separate plate you get the roasted chicken with rice, salad, and tortillas. The things I have ordered here that I didn't like was the carne guisada (fatty) platanos (not ripe) and ceviche de camarones (lacked flavor). The service was friendly and I appreciated that the menu had some items that are not on typical menus of restaurants from other Latin American countries. The coffee was very tasty. On the downside, the food was not hot (almost room temperature) or as flavorful as I would like. Food textures weren't great. This review is based on two visits. I can't vouch for the "authenticity" of the food, but I know what I like. It seems like every country in Central America has its own distinct versions of basically the same dishes. In this case, the (Guatemalan?) version of tamales, fried plantains, tostadas, chile relleno, taquito / flauta, fried, stuffed potato croquets, rice and beans are all delicious. If you like the usual tex-mex items and you are feeling adventurous, I would suggest thinking of the food in this way. It will be familiar, but different. Not necessarily better or worse than what you are used to, but good. Also, the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. My boyfriend and I were in Manassas a few days ago and I had a craving for nachos, so we stopped by for lunch. The restaurant was very clean, bright and the staff was welcoming and friendly. We were served a basket of chips and salsa, which was very tasty and its small size prevented us from filling up. We ordered the Nachos Supreme, and the huge serving came out promptly. The nachos were delicious - my boyfriend and I ate every single bite. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, thinking I could use some vegetables, and my boyfriend ordered the Plato Tipico, which featured several different items that were listed as appetizers. My boyfriend introduced me to this hidden gem. He's full Guatemalen and I'm full Honduran so I was very pleased & he knew I would be. We came on a Sunday morning for the breakfast buffet. So delicious. They had everything from small pupusas to platanos and huevos en tomate. They had a variety of egg dishes including quesadillas with eggs. Of course, they also had the basics - queso, frijoles, crema, & tortillas amongst other tasteful foods. They are constantly refilling the buffet table as they run out quick but it's obvious this is a popular place on Sundays. Not pricey at all, so we went back with my parents, brothers & sister in law and they loved this place too, especially my Honduran born parents. I can only review the buffet breakfast. The wife and I went on a Saturday but the buffet is offered seven days a week. It was very good food for a buffet. The breakfast buffet definitely has Central American flair as you can find, pupusas, queso fresco, crema, pollo guisado, rellenos de coliflor, and many others, along with the standard, eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc. We ordered coffee to go along with the meal and the question was if we would like it prepared. That just means if you would like cream and sugar in it. The service was great and I am looking forward to going back to try some of the other foods but may have trouble not getting the breakfast buffet. read more

I ordered the Fajita meat which came with rice, 1 square queso (1x1) potato salad of some sort, salsa, avocado. It was missing the salad and I ordered extra avocado substituting the refried beans. I also order the chicken tamales. Chicken Tamales: First of all when I opened it it was huge and fat! I realized they put the chicken in-between the tamales and it was pink (yuck) I didn't eat thinking there are bacteria infestation everywhere. Secondly the meat was really rough and chewy...my jaw started hurting after 40 chews. The rice was wrapped in a soggy paper,which was really weird. Made me think it was microwaveable food. WOW! What a great find! I got there by accident just because I needed to go to AutoZone accross the plaza and I was very hungry. The place is super authentic. I order sopa de mariscos and got a huge bowl of same exact soup that I tried at a very good restaurant in Costa Rica. The soup had 2 kinds of clams in it, shrimp, whole crab and a huge piece of some white fish. The broth had lots of flavor: different spices and fresh cilantro. The bowl was enough to keep you going whole day. I had to take my ceviche to go, becuase I was stuffed. My friend ordered Boquitas Chapinas and Sopa de Res. He got his appetizer first and also had to take soup to go, which ended up in my car so I enjoyed it as dinner later on. It was also pretty amazing. They also have authentic drinks such as Horchata and frutas en agua. Horhcata was very good and my friends Pina was made with fresh pinapple. It looks like they went to a garage sale, found the cheapest prints and random things at cheap price, and pasted them to the walls. There are numerous tv's playing some spanish channel. What decent restaurant puts tv's in the dining room. Ambiance, again, what ambiance. It is evident that absolutely no effort was put into making this place feel warm, comfortable, charming etc. It is just a really ratty place. If it looks like they don't care about what kind of condition their restaurant is in, it is safe to assume they dont care about the food either. I found this to be true when we were served. Garnachos, fajitas, and i forget the other dish....looked dried out, old, and totally unappetizing. The only reason we went there was because of the restaurant.com coupon which brought our bill to just under $20. I regret even paying that.
