We found this place by accident .It's a fantastic Mexican Restsurant . We ordered Margarita. It came in a huge glass with orchid lime and orange slices . They put in lot of alcohol. We ordered their lunch special Chimichanga and I ordered their rice fish that came with chicken , beef and shrimp and vegetables .OMG!! Too yummy perfectly cooked huge portions. Went here on a Sunday brunch with a large party for a birthday. We were able to be seated fairly quickly which is nice since they don't take reservations. The bad starts almost immediately after, they had live music which was fine but they didn't turn off their ambient music. The menu is very large and unfortunately our server wasn't able to answer many questions about it. The drinks, though I wasn't a fan of the taste, had very fun and over the top garnishes and glassware. The food was okay, and definitely not something to rave about. Absolutely WONDERFUL experience! Honey was our server and she was as sweet as her name. We were well served and she came back at the perfect times to check back in on us. Very polite and wonderful to talk to. The ambiance of El Barco is something not common. It's very Latin and there are mariachi walking around (you can request songs for free) and man, can they SING! We came in on a rainy Friday and it wasn't too full, but not too empty. The food is always delicious. We had the molcajete fabuloso and it lives up to its name. Please never change the recipe unless it's to make it better. Absolutely delicious. Nearly couldn't house it. The place was very spacious and clean, has an extensive menu, and friendly and helpful staff. We went out for dinner Friday night around 7pm. There was a wait of about 30 minutes as expected. No issues there with the wait. We were finally sat and our server came to ask us for our drink order. Because the Mariachis were there, it was a little bit hard for the server to hear what I was saying. Unfortunately, our server looked as if she had been having a rough day and didn't want to be there anymore almost comparable to a resting b**** face. Our drink order came. My father ordered a Fresco de tamarindo and so did my wife and my mother and I ordered a Regular Margarita de Tamarindo and a Large House Margarita. My dad's fresco de tamarindo tasted watered down and we let the server know we wanted it replaced with a bottled coke. My wife's tamarindo drink had not issues. Our Margaritas came out and mine did not have any salt on the rim. I asked her if she could ask the bartender if he could add some salt to the rim. I asked for Salt on the rim and they made sure it was "Really" salted! Sarcasticly she said, here is your margarita with salt. Aditionally, the 2 other tables that were sat after us and their order was taken after us, their food came out first. We were waiting for almost 20 minutes before ours came out. The previous occassion, we were in a larger group of 8 of us and all our food came out much quicker. We ordered the same food products also this time like last time and it was also as crowded. Normally, the margarita's even the large ones don't affect me as much and I am fine but as I got to about a quarter left t of my drink, I felt drunk! I had never felt this drunk before to include slurring my speech a little bit. Normally, someone that is used to drinking or a much heavier drinker would be fine with it but not for me and I am ok at handling my alcohol. The effects of the Margarita lasted for almost 3 hours before I fell asleep back home. My wife had to drive that evening because of how I was feeling. Even the next day, I was still exhausted and tired from the drink. I do not know if on purpose more alcohol was added since I complained but again, it was not a fun experience. My parents and I have gone there on multiple occasions especially with the Mariachi, we really enjoy the food and the ambience and that is why we keep coming back! After this experience, I do not know if I would come back. read more

They give out corn tortilla only 2 which surprised me, other place give out a lot more and free refill ( taste good). Tortilla here don't taste that good, the sauces so spicy and plain. Weird thing is we ask for water, which naturally fountain water but no they bring out 2 bottle water so they can charge us for money. The drinks were also very well crafted and a perfectly balanced.the plating and presentation it was great it shows that they take pride on their menu. It's very strange. It's packed so I'm guessing people like it but I personally don't find the appeal. It's extremely loud, a lot of people talking at once mixed with a mariachi band walking around the restaurant(seems dangerous with waiters walking around with hot trays of food). They seem to care more about how to present their drinks rather than their food. It's like they go above and BEYOND to make these extravagant drinks with edible flowers, upside down tequila bottles, huge barrels with chamoy rings. But with the food it feels like they have one thing they're really proud of, and then give you the most random sides in the most mediocre way possible. Our tortilla chips were just round deep fried tortillas that we had to break into small chips ourselves. Take the Pina Rellena; amazing concept, I got it in estilo Sinaloa which was delicious. My sides however were terrible; a salad where everything felt thrown together at the last second, my rice was mushy and wet(???) like it was microwaved, and my French fries felt like they were cooked from frozen. The garlic bread wasn't much to look at(just a slice of baguette with..well, garlic butter) but other than the pineapple the garlic bread was the only thing I felt was enjoyable. For a "Specialty dish" it didn't feel special, I just paid attention to my pineapple because everything else just looked so unappetizing. I would pay $28 for just the pineapple and no sides. I just think for such high prices, I would get something more than a headache and mid food. Felt like people were just there to drink. read more

The parking lot is littered with suspension-shattering potholes, then when you make inside the forced nautical theme makes sure to tell you it's a seafood eatery. Everything is expensive for no reason. Octopus is in everything, which for my friend was great, but me? No thanks. Need a water? $3. Extra bread? $3. I got the pasta which was over cooked seafood in too much sauce, served over over cooked linguine. I ate my food, paid the astronomical bill, and went home.
