I was visiting my dad at Hillcrest hospital and needed a place to visit for dinner on a Friday night. It was less than a 10 minute drive from the hospital. The restaurant was really cute inside, service was good, and the food was great. My mom had the pulled pork nachos for her meal. It comes in a skillet and is covered in cheese and pulled pork. I stole and few bites and it was delicious. I went with the brisket (burnt ends) traditional style. The cornbread was sweet and not too dry. Burnt ends were a bit fatty, but delicious. They also had a decent list of craft beers. We were too full to order desert, but we saw others order the peach cobbler and it looked amazing. Brisket was in the middle in terms of juiciness and being kinda tough. The sweet "wimpy" sauce was the best I've had in Cleveland so far (even though Boney Fingers is a close second). The pulled pork was dry and tough and bad and really expensive at like $13 for half a pound (almost as bad as $18 for half a pound of brisket/burnt ends). The burnt ends were mostly juicy but had some really tough parts sadly. The cornbread was soft and large and mostly moist. The sweet black pepper butter was found in the bag after eating the food sadly but I tasted it and it was deliciously true to name. The cole slaw was straight up purple cabbage in long shreds with a teeny tiny bit of maybe some sort of sauce? It was basically raw purple cabbage with some liquid that had no flavor. It was the worst slaw I've tried from a restaurant. The crispy broccoli wasn't crispy but more like crunchy from not being fully cooked. The massive amount of butter and wee bit of pecorino made it a greasy treat. The Brussels sprouts came with a fantastic buttery greasy horseradish sauce. read more

Been here plenty of times, used to be decent, but last few times have been Meh (service Ok, food ok). Decided to give it another try tonight and wont be back. I understand staffing issues, but the service was bad past that. Never checked on us, late to come to table, food took over an hour (everyone else got food even coming after us), first round of drinks over 15 minutes, second round of drinks we cancelled because also took over 15 minutes and it looked like they hadn't even made them yet. Started pouring no one asked us to come inside (everyone went themselves). Food was OK, seemed overcooked and meat portions were small- sides were good. This place was pretty good. We ordered the mama bear which had 1/2 lb of each meat - ribs, pork and brisket. Then we ordered the jalapeño cheddar sausage el jefe style. That just came with guac, jalapeños and a couple tortillas. I liked all the meats except I did not care for the sausage. I did however loved the tortilla that came with it and I wanted more. We were going to get the papa bear originally but then noticed that the price was more expensive than ordering the maps bear and the jalapeño sausage separate plus you got to choose a different style and got the awesome tortillas! There was an issue with the price when we got the check and the waiter corrected the issue. Whoa. Where do I begin? Long story short, this was probably the biggest baddest lunch I've ever had (in a good way). We stumbled upon Smokin' Q's after a visit to Squire's Castle and Buttermilk Falls in the Chagrin Reservation. We're rarely on this side of town so I opened my trusty Yelp app and found this gem. We were seated on their large front patio. It faces the street so it's not exactly serene, but it was still nice to enjoy the last bits of summer warmth. The menu is vast and just about everything sounded delicious. I really liked how you could order your BBQ Traditional Style (Cornbread, slaw, pickles, house bbq sauce) or El Jefe Style (House tortillas, Spanish rice, salsa fuego, guac, jalapenos). I've never seen that as an option and it's a shame because it makes perfect sense. We ordered the brisket sandwich, perch tacos, sweet potatoes and mac n cheese. Wow! The portions were HUGE and the food was absolutely scrumptious. I'd have to say that the standout was the sweet potato dish- food for the soul, indeed. Went for my birthday and had a pretty nice time with friends. Service was a little slow and it wasn't even crowded. The waitress was nice. We all had a complaint, the food wasn't very hot. You would think to wait would mean hot food but no. I've waited tables and this would be a thing of the food is hot and ready to go but the server isn't picking it up to deliver to the tables quick enough. Again restaurant wasn't even crowded. Food was pretty good...broccoli, Mac n cheese, cauliflower, wings, burnt ends, briskets. The sweet sauce was good. I think the skillet corn bread is over rated. I could add some corn in a Jiffy mix and it'd be just as good and way cheaper for more. And the cast iron size was a lot smaller than I thought. I didn't care for the greens...they had tomatoes in them! The perch was pretty good but small portions. My friend wasn't happy that the fried corn was actually corn on the cob (street corn I believe?) Just a kinda why not state that on the menu type of deal. My husband and I have stopped in here twice for dinner and have been pleased both times. The food and drinks were very good! The atmosphere is laid back and if you catch them on a busy night you feel packed in there. They do have a nice little patio that we enjoyed sitting on the first time we were there. Both times our service was great and the servers had recommendations which I like, it helps me decide quicker. We started off with the smokey bbq wings (which were delicious) and for dinner I had the "The Hot Chick", BBQ chicken breast sandwich, slaw, sauce, guac, pickles...it was awesome! Our waitress, Peggy was really sweet and very attentive. We started with the BBQ Pork Nachoes to start. This was perfect portion for 2 people. It might be too small for a larger party. It's crispy tortilla chips, pulled pork, quac, jalapenos, gooey cheese, & black beans. I had the PB&J Tacoes. These are two tacoes in housemade tortillas. They are crispy pork belly chunks, red cabbage slaw, pico, mexican cheese, topped with jalapeno jam. All that somehow did not break the homemade tortillas...magic‍!! BEWARE! The sides are á la carte! Taco Tuesday is the day to visit Smokin' Q's BBQ! $3 tacos (mix and match your favorites- no need to get two of the same kind!) and $5 margaritas make this a great spot to grab a bit to eat and a drink. I tried the El Porko (pulled pork) and the Po'Nino (shrimp) tacos which were both tasty. I really enjoyed the nice balance of sweet/spicy/acidity in the tacos and the taco shells were amazing. They don't get soggy and don't fall apart- perfect taco vessel in my opinion. The ambiance is relaxed and comfortable, but the real gem here is the patio with a huge stone fireplace. I can't wait to come back when Cleveland warms up! All of the staff were nice and attentive. If you came here when the restaurant was new and had bad service, it really seems like they've made some positive changes. I'll be back to give the BBQ a try for sure! read more

Based on a lot of other reviews, we must have had a bad night. We had a reservation and two tables worth of people. My table seemed to always be ignored. In fact, the first table had their dinner almost fully eaten before any of ours came out. This is really bad service if you ask me. The food was for the most part good. I had the ribs which were really meaty. My wife had a hamburger which was cooked to a crisp and had no taste. The cornbread was good, but the "collard greens" (they called them something else) were horrible. For six dollars I expect something that tastes good. These tasted like someone dumped some canned spinach into a crock with some onions and cooked the death out of them. Please, go down south and see how they do this stuff. It also would have been nice to have salt, pepper, pepper Vinegar on the table. Our servers just ignored us so trying to get even a refill of water was impossible. Went on July 24th around 7 so apologies for sloppy deets. Basically I ordered too much food and I don't regret it. For an appetizer my table of two ordered 1/2 a dozen wings (we accidentally were charged and received 12 but we didn't realize it until we started eating them and they were so good I didn't mind boxing 'em up for later). They were garlic lime chili and super tasty! We also got two PB and J tacos--pork belly and jalapeño--MMMMMF best taco I've had in a long time. I made a pick 3 platter with a half salad and an additional side of Mac n cheese, the Mac was superb! The brisket melt in your mouth amazing. The ribs were fine, I tried the saucy ones to be different even though I normally like dry rub. But if you are a saucy fan I'm sure these will slate your blood lust. I really wanted to like this place! A very attentive server, that quickly realized that I was standing in the entry being ignored by the hostess, welcomed me and seated me. She was super friendly and I liked the western casual atmosphere and there were obviously happy customers at the bar having animated conversation. But then while I waited for my ribs to come out, I realized it wasn't that late (7pm) and very few people were eating - just drinking. Another clue... But I thought, well maybe Monday is a slow night for them. Next clue - half price rib special! The place should be packed, right?! Not! Any place with decent ribs doesn't have to do a half price special. But I was hungry so I ordered them. They were tepid, dry, lots of gristle and not much smoky flavor. But I ate a few and got increasingly frustrated with how dry and tough they were. I picked at my sides and realized that those weren't great either... I ordered the El Jefe version with the rice, tortillas, small sides of salsa and guacamole and some really boring red slaw. And when I asked about it, the waitress recommended the corn bread with honey butter. The slaw was inedible. Just vinegar and red cabbage. The rice was overcooked but tasty and nicely seasoned. The guac was fine and so was the salsa and fresh tortillas. But my intention was to make little tacos from my ribs but I couldn't hardly even cut the meat with a knife! It was so tough and dry. I cut some pieces off, cut them up small and added sauce to moisten the meat up, then made 2 little tacos with the guac and salsa. That was fine but eating the ribs all by themselves was a chore and not falling off the bone - that's for sure. So when the nice waitress came back I told her how disappointed I was and showed her how dry, hard and tough the meat was. It was so dry it was hard to even poke it with a fork or knife... She was genuinely concerned and explained that was not how the ribs are usually served and took one back to the kitchen to show them. Next the "manager" came to the table (half the age and half the credibility since I realized that this was the same hostess at the front who ignored me while she was on the phone). She repeated that the ribs are usually moist and customers like them but could she offer me something else. I thought that was very nice so I suggested a small sampling of each of the meats so that I could try them and pick out something that I would enjoy ordering next time. She brought out a couple of chunks of the burnt ends which were moist, delicious and definitely worth ordering again! They had that incredible caramelized char that is so hard to make at home. But honestly the rest of the meats were unappealing or downright unacceptable. The chicken smelled funny and was very dry - especially considering it was dark meat. It should have been moist. The brisket was very dry and flavorless. The pulled pork was fine but pretty ordinary with minimal flavor. The sausage was kind of boring - nothing special and dry. So, really the only thing that I would come back for would be the burnt ends and maybe a pulled pork sandwich if I pulled out the fatty chunks... The corn bread was ok but not worth $5 and I wouldn't order it again. I love corn bread and I didn't eat it all... Bottom line, I probably will check out all the other BBQ joints in the area before coming back - if at all. read more

I just wanted to inform whoever was going to eat at this place, do not order to go! Which is huge now that coronavirus has hit every state nobody wants to eat in a facility that isn't being disinfected correctly. It is probably one of the most disgusting pieces of meat I have ever eaten I would love to find out when the prep cooks smoked this brisket?! because it seems like it's been in the fridge for over a week and they're still serving it Also not to mention these brisket tips were saltier than the Atlantic ocean. The condiments that were given Butter, barbecue sauce, corn bread and coleslaw or slaw whatever you wanna call it. Let me start off by saying a restaurant should always clean there vegetables especially now with coronavirus restaurants serving vegetables that are not cleaned and sanitized with the correct vegetables sanitization products should be closed down. With that being said it tasted as if my coleslaw came out of the ground and was still full and covered with dirt absolutely one of the most bitterest coleslaws I've ever eaten! The barbecue sauce, it tasted as if somebody didn't follow the correct recipe and doused it in vinegar, paprika and overwhelming amount of black pepper. now the cornbread was the only thing that was great taste as if it was somewhat homemade if anything the only thing I recommend is getting a tray of cornbread and getting your @$$ out of there! I called back immediately wanting A refund for my brisket and I was giving only a partial credit of $10 I spent 38 almost $40 on a meal that was disgusting! I don't even want to talk about my wife's ribs because I didn't like those either but she was fine with it and that's all that matters but honestly I would've returned my whole order because this barbecue place should be shut down for having the worst barbecue. This restaurant was a pleasant surprise! We had driven past it a couple of times and it had a rustic appeal so we decided to try it out. Upon first walking in it was very quaint but very cold in the dining room. If you are typically cold like myself, bring a sweater in if you don't plan on eating on the patio. There is a very nice patio area actually. They had a decent menu for drinks. They have a limited happy hour that we didn't take advantage of that time. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so we chose the meal where you get try all 4 meats and it was worth it. A large portion and you also get a side; more than enough to share! We were sceptical to try this place based on the mixed reviews. And now after trying their food I too have mixed feelings about this place. The atmosphere and decor is nice, two dinning areas and a nice outdoor patio. The one thing that is missing is the great aroma of smoke. Items ordered Beef short rib with Brussel Sprouts. The Brussel Sprouts were tender and had a nice little char on them. The beef rib, fatty, under seasoned, extremely chared exterior, no smoke flavor but as far as the little amount of meat that was under all that was nice, tender and juicy. Burnt ends with fried corn. The burnt ends were extremely dry and had zero smoke. The only flavor it had was the little amount of sauce they had put on them. The corn was amazing love the Chipotle butter it was a great addition. Very flavorful. Momma Bear platter (brisket, Pulled Pork and spare ribs) and for the sides baked mac n cheese. The brisket was tender, juicy and a little amount if fat. Did not taste any seasoning or smoke. The pulled pork had no flavor and was super dry. The spare ribs were cooked perfectly but again no flavor. Mac n cheese had a great melted gruyere top crust, but once you get through it, the pasta was over cooked and the cheese sauce was runny and really had no flavor. Over all the meats were really underwhelming. Some sides were ok but nothing to write home about. Now I am not a pit master and it could just be me, because the place was jammed around lunch time. Well the Spicy Cauliflower and Roasted Brussel Sprouts were excellent! Totally not what you'd expect from a BBQ restaurant. HOWEVER, what you would expect from a BBQ restaurant is great ribs, I did not find them great. I think ribs that have a crispy crust and moist meat. This a delivery order. When I opened the container I was surprised by their appearance. They looked undercooked and the meat was really pink in sections. The sausage I found lacked flavor. God I love meat. I'm a terrible Indian man as I eat all meats. Pig, cow, chicken, alligator, fox - you name it, I eat it. Needless to say, there was a sweaty tenderness in my loins that developed when I heard of a new BBQ joint opening up around Cleveland. I took a seat at the bar. Solid craft beer list that included a couple offerings from Double Wing Brewing that is underrepresented in downtown Cleveland. I asked the bartender what to order and she recommended the sporaccii sandwich. The sandwich had jalapeno cheddar sausage, loads of pulled pork and slaw on soft butter rolls and came with a side of their housemade bbq sauce - vinegar based with a little tang and a little spice. The first bite was magic - my mouth grabbed hold of a piece of pulled pork and the pulled pork just kept going and going and going. BOOM SHAKALAKA. This restaurant is not far from where I live, and I've been wanting to visit for some time. I finally had the opportunity to visit this past Friday. I entered the restaurant at approx 7:30 p.m., the place was fairly full. I was going to sit in the bar, since I was dining alone, but there were no seats available, so I opted for the dining room. I had already previewed the menu, and decided on dry rub wings, and since I'm watching my carbs, I was torn between which side to choose, I asked my server, which was better....the crispy parmesan, garlic broccoli or corn/black bean salad. She recommended the broccoli. My food arrived a short time later. I received 6 wingettes ($8), 5 flats, 1 drum:-(. I prefer the drum, so didn't expect to receive majority flats, instead of 1/2 & 1/2. The wings were accompanied by a blue cheese dressing, which was kinda bland, so I opted for the sauce choices on the table, and I was not at all disappointed. There are 3 options, mild, medium and hot. I chose the medium and enjoyed the combination, of the dry rub and medium sauce. The wings were tasty. The "crispy" broccoli, not so much. When I saw crispy on the menu, I thought that maybe the broccoli was roasted, nope, it was fried:-(, and apparently the oil was not hot enough because the veggie was far from crispy, it was completely saturated with oil, I couldn't finish it, there was a big pool of oil gathering in the bottom of the container. The concept was good, execution, not so much. My server was pretty good, except she didn't notice that I had not eaten the side dish that she had recommended. My total bill was $14+ tax for 6 wingettes and broccoli that was completely inedible. Overall the wings were a 4, but the veggies were more like a 1. Just didnt feel welcoming here!! Hostess has sour puss look, waitress has a sour puss look and no one seems to be interested in customer service. The presentation doesn't match the prices. I ordered the Burnt Ends and they appear to just be cuts of brisket. Very fatty and no burnt flavor what so ever. The baby back ribs were advertised as tender, but I'm not sure who's version of tender they are. Visiting from Texas and I remember this place as Fishers Tavern, so going down memory lane we stopped for a late lunch. We had our dog with us and were able to eat outside. The Brussels Sprout side was perfection. The pulled chicken tacos with homemade tortillas had great flavor. I chose the chopped salad as my side. It was huge for a side salad and full of veggies. I also added the house special cornbread. The black pepper gives it a nice kick and its slightly sweet which is how I prefer my cornbread. If we lived here this would definitely be a go too place for us. Service was wonderful! All read more

Been to this place a couple fo times and I've yet to be disappointed. Plenty of parking in the back and it's easy to find from the road. Great atmosphere, delicious food and the wait-staff has always been friendly. Highly recommend the BBQ nachos and the House Specialty Cocktails are also very good.
