This place is okay if you desperately need a caffeine fix. Simple coffee shop, atmosphere is nothing to write home about. Packaged treats, basic drink selection. Lots of seating but not comfortable or cozy or really anywhere you would want to linger. Coffee tasted a little burnt too. You would be much better served going to Big Dog Coffee right down the street - better coffee, food, and atmosphere. read more

I like this place, mostly for it's atmosphere and location. My double espresso was very good excellent. The barista was professional and friendly. I will go back and try more coffee drinks, and will update this review if necessary. Instead of dimly lighted and closed, this place is open, airy, and filled with natural light. The whole wall that faces the street is comprised of roll-up doors, so when they're open, the whole place is like a porch or patio. The metal chairs and tables and general decor feel like a cool garage, not a mossy pub (like too many coffeehouses). It's close to the Great Allegheny Trail, so I can bike here, and the open, inside-is-outside setup means I don't have to chain my bike up to enjoy a shot. The location, south of South Side Works' chains, and past E Carson's busier stops is really nice, almost off the beaten path, but still close. read more

The listing here is misleading as they do not sell juices here, or ice cream, only fruit smoothies. Even still, this is one of my favorite coffee shops in the South Side. It is a really quiet and pleasant place to study, with incredibly cheap coffee. The espresso drink are decently made, and incredibly cheap ($2.50 for a cappuccino), which is a very nice change from most coffee shops. It's also very well lit, as it used to be a garage and has a lot of open space- very bohemian. read more

I come here nearly every Sunday with my husband. Great location nestled in the back streets of the South Side. They have a parking lot out front that holds a few cars. We typically park right on the street. I usually get some type of hot tea and my husband loves the coffee. Warning the hot tea is crazy hot. You usually can't really dive in it for awhile! I have never ordered the food so I'm unable to comment on that. When its warm out they open the giant garage doors and it makes the shop quite welcoming. I will be back...most likely next Sunday! read more

Went in for a basic caramel frappe and left with a big cup of disappointment. The frappe was mostly ice, and just watered down essence of a caramel frappe. It felt more like I was just drinking a cup of shaved ice with a couple of drops of caramel and coffee to quench my coffee addiction. I hope their other food options aren't as much of wash out compared to the frappe. read more

Try this place for the first time... And liked it. I like the space, and especially appreciate that it is dog friendly. I was there for a quick late morning meeting with someone, so we just had beverages. My dirty chai was well made and the right temperature. This is a cool little spot in the Southside with a pretty open concept and a nice vibe. Came here on a date when it wasn't busy and we sat outside. The iced vanilla latte was pretty much your standard. I like the fact that they offer smoothies, even though I didn't get one. The only thing is that they have two parking spots in their "lot". I don't know if on their website it's a joke when it says "look for the big parking lot!!". Cool place nonetheless. It seems to be a spot where locals know each other which I'm always a fan of. I walked into Cup Ka Joe and honestly I was quite grossed out by the whole place. If you look at the countertops behind the bar where they prepare the coffees/drinks they were quite filthy along with the cabinets below the countertops and inside the cabinets that were opened. Even the floor behind the counters were filthy. It was pretty disgusting. Some places the ceiling was leaking (or sweating) and dripping water onto the tables and chairs. Plus all of the tables and chairs looked really old, worn out and dirty. Definitely not a place I would want to sit down and work on my computer. I ordered a flavored iced latte and it was so sweet. I love my coffee on the sweeter side however this was even too sweet for my liking. The barista was very friendly. With so many coffee shops in southside I really don't understand how this place has stayed in business. When is the last time they cleaned the place?! I definitely will not be back! read more

Living in the South Side my whole life, you would assume I would have checked this place out sooner. I'm not a crazy coffee-goer, but I do enjoy some fun coffee drinks and tea. I was craving something sweet and had a few extra bucks on me, so I decided to head on in and check it out. The atmosphere is so cool! Very hip with a hint of old school South Side which I adore and miss. They also have TVs, computers and open garage doors that lead out into a wonderful outdoor patio. They also have a parking lot for a few cars! Important in the South Side! The menu is great, consisting of small sandwiches and pastries and of course coffee, smoothies, tea and juice. I ordered a fruit tea. It was awesome! Definitely quenched my thirst, but I for sure want to try other things on the menu. They have so many fun options! read more

I've been here twice and haven't been disappointed. This trip I got the dirty pumpkin spice chai- so perfect. And the last trip I got an americano. So their espresso is awesome and their chai is actually chai. It's not the super sweet stuff you might find elsewhere. Their baked goods I just found out are all baked in house. I liked Cup ka Joe! It's not quite as trendy as other places, but it does the job. The coffee was decently good, they had a lot of baked good options, and there were plenty of tables for me to study at. There were also a couple comfy looking couches. I'm a big ambiance person, so I wish the inside were a bit prettier/laid out differently. But it is a former garage, which probably makes that tricky! The big windows from its previous life do give a lot of sunlight which is a major plus. And the staff was very friendly! read more

This might be my "go-to" coffee shop. Mainly because its a really great place to hang out in. They have so many big tables with comfortable chairs to sit in, its the perfect place to spend an afternoon studying. The whole place is really open and bright, which is probably because they have an open patio and a ton of windows. ...The windows also have a draw back because they cause the place to be pretty warm. I'm not even sure if they have air-conditioning because they always have all of the doors open, and that sometimes doesn't work so well. Sometimes I leave Cupka's a little sweaty... but overall I'm okay with that because most everything else there does it for me. The coffee is good and the service is pretty coffee house standard- nice girls that do their job well, but aren't overly friendly. They only have three options for iced tea (which is a little odd because they could ice a hot tea of another flavor, but don't do that for some reason...) They have a lot of nice little snacks and pastries, with a sandwich shop/deli/bar of the same name across the street. read more

It looks like it was a gas station originally and the coffee shop is in the garage. They still have the garage doors and they are both open. Really awesome. The Americano I got tastes great. Great coffee shop tucked away on 27th. They have a few parking spaces available, but it's not always easy to fit in their lot. Street parking is also available nearby and I've never had to walk more than a block to get there. They have nearly any flavor syrup you can think of. Staff is always very friendly. I recommend this place to anyone in the area. My go-to is an iced americano and a piece of banana bread when they have it! read more

Didn't even get to order. I was in there today (about 12 or 1pm). There was only one person in front of me (whom the person behind the counter was helping). I walked to the counter to order, and the girl just looked at me like I had two heads and - without a word - walked away. No "I'll be right with you", no "just a minute", not even a "hello". Can you really afford to employ such rudeness at a time like this?? Needless to say, if you don't even want my business NOW, you clearly won't want it when you open up completely. Well, don't worry. Baked goods are all home made, coffee is good (get the Red Eye, it rocks!), bacon and egg muffin is GREAT, service is quick and personable, and the place is a little more open/upbeat than your regular "library-esque" coffee shop! Got a message from stephanie cupka. She's a sweetheart. Told me she retrained her staff to make the protein shakes better. She gave me a free coffee on the house and then gave me a card with 10 whole punches to get my protein shake another time. I have gone back since and gotten a maple spice and pumpkin latte with a double shot of espresso. It was fantastic. I think they should make it permanent to do 2 shots for a small and 4 shots for a large. So good. Anyways I changed my mind about this place. I highly recommend. I am constantly on the quest for a coffee shop that I can have a quality cup of coffee, a healthy snack, and some free wi-fi in an environment that is pleasant and has an all around good vibe. I'm kind of kicking myself for not trying this place sooner, especially since I know the owner. (Sorry Richie!!) Today, I was working from the Southside (I'm a Real Estate agent and can work wherever). The Beehive is no more, couldn't find a place to park at Big Dog, and remembered that Cup Ka Joe's was around the corner. It wasn't until I pulled up that I realized they had PARKING! Wow. I pulled right in, and stepped inside to the former gas station turned coffee shop. The music was perfect coffee shop music, the garage doors were opened to a most gorgeous day, and there were plenty of healthy snack options to choose from. I ordered broccoli salad, two hard boiled eggs and a medium cold brew. My total was under $6. I thought the barista made a mistake. I spent nearly double that on a similar order at Starbucks last week! I ended up adding a rice krispy treat. The free wifi network/password info was clearly displayed on the wall behind the counter. My coffee was perfect. My snack was healthy, and I was able to get my work done. Win, win, win. This will definitely be my "office" when I'm on this side of the Mon! read more

Great little place. My family and I were taking a walk while visiting Pittsburgh and wanted something good. Yelped it and found this nice place. A few frappes and a smoothie later we were good to go. I came here with a friend for a quiet afternoon coffee...and I think I will be coming back for many more times! Very nice atmosphere and plenty of sitting (outdoor sitting is available as well). There is a great variety of beverages and food and it certainly feels as a local, friendly place that you can stop by and see familiar faces and feel comfortable. I personally love this coffee [5 stars]. There are some places that I'll only buy specialty drinks because their regular coffee tastes bitter and burnt.. not here though. There is a nice area for outdoor seating. I'm new to the area, but this seems to be an old car shop maybe[?] They kept the garage doors and when it's nice they have them open along with tables in the lot. Ask for the loyalty card and your 10th coffee is free. I moved here a week ago and my next coffee is free. That explains how much Bobby & I enjoy it lol. read more

I noticed this spot on my way to the gym. Tucked away off Carson Street, away from the human traffic, this converted garage space has a unique selection of cookies and pastries along with savory items, all at prices that will keep you away from chain coffee bars. One of my favorite spots in the south side! I work a few blocks over, so I walk here on my breaks to grab my fav white mocha! The girls are super friendly & know my order by now! One of the best perks is the parking lot, for my days off when I still need my Cupka Joes fix! What other coffee shop in the area has free parking!? None!! Love the inside/outside feel & love my little spot in the corner, in the comfy chairs, by the big windows, when I meet my friend there!! Some of the girls sell their artwork there & they also do those paint parties where you bring your own beverage of choice... wine, beer, ect... I love how the owner let's his employees make money in other ways than just their hourly pay there!! & they make super cute & creative stuff. Im all for supporting local artists!!!
