Le Petit is one of my favorite spots on Carson street. It is super cozy and has a very inviting atmosphere. The food portions are generous, so you definitely won't leave hungry! My favorite is the blanc and noir gourmet pancakes which come with Nutella, vanilla cream, and either strawberries or bananas. The attention to detail is also great here. I usually get hot tea and they bring out a tea bag holder and, if you ask for cream, they bring it out in a cute espresso cup. The sauce that came on the French toast was overly sweet and the bread was pretty soggy. I also ordered a latte which was pricey for the size you get and the quality of taste. This is a cute little neighborhood cafe on Pittsburgh's south side. There are only 8 tables and you order at the counter. We came at noon on a Sunday and didn't have a problem getting a table. The menu has classic breakfast and lunch items--omelets, salads, burgers. The salads were very fresh, large, had French fries on them (pittsburgh classic!), and very good rib eye on one and grilled chicken on the other. We also got a burger and the rib eye sandwich (like a Philly cheese steak, but better!) And the French fries were very good! They also serve tea and coffee and a small handful of pastries, and had many to go orders going out the door. I'm a hot chocolate fan and they serve "gourmet hot chocolate". I was skeptical, but it was one of the best hot chocolates I've had! Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun breakfast/lunch spot! read more

On a scale of romances to documentaries, La Petit Cafe & Grille is a small-town love story such as Of Literature & Lattes by Katherine Reay. This scenic shop offers a great menu, wonderful service, and a lovely space to chat and eat. While they didn't have a few items available, they were able to offer substitutes for the meal. I took my Chocolate croissant and iced chai to go, but I hope to return soon to dine-in! Paid parking is available on East Carson, but you may be able to find a free spot on a back street. read more

Ate here on a Sunday morning at around 10:30AM. This area is a ghost town at this hour. Which was odd considering all the residential nearby. Had no problem getting the window table. Breakfast was pretty good. The standard breakfast with toast, eggs, potato's and meat, and a couple of pancakes. No complaints on the food front. There was an interesting situation of note however. We also ordered coffees. Since it was our first time here, we didn't know exactly how it works. But we got two "large" mochas to go with breakfast. They were delivered to our table in coffee mugs. Not "large" coffee mugs, just your standard home mugs. Which I believe are 8 ounces? The large coffees on the menu were supposed to be 16 ounces. We didn't know if we got a refill or what. Seems like we would've got the same mug if we had ordered and paid for a small mocha too. We didn't feel like chasing down an answer on this so we left it. Le Petit is one of my favorite breakfast spots in the city! One major reason: there is never a long wait (if any). As a bonus, they serve La Prima coffee and make delicious oat-milk mochas! I love their sweet and savory breakfast options. On the sweet side, they have delicious gourmet pancakes with vanilla bean cream. On the savory side, they have amazing omelets and veggie hash. I also really enjoy their lunch options. My favorite is the shrimp sandwich! They only reason I didn't give Le Petit 5-stars is that service can be iffy. What a pleasant surprise! I've driven and walked by a ton and I had always thought of checking it out. It's small and cozy with plenty of coffee as well as food options. A surprising amount of food options I would say - and very delicious options! The omelets were large and served with a side as well as a large slice of toast. It was a large portion at an extremely reasonable price. The service was excellent - as everyone is friendly. They also have chocolate and pastry options - and cupcakes. I always like to stop here for a treat before heading home. Trying to keep weight in check I grab something to split with my boyfriend. Usually a pastry that we can have for dessert. Came here for lunch during the week! The cafe is adorable and makes it feel like you are not in Southside! They serve breakfast all day and have an extensive lunch menu as well. I had a iced caramel toffee coffee and the greek salad. The greek salad was delicious! It consisted of gyro meat, fries, feta, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and a nice herby dressing. My friends had breakfast for lunch consisting of omelets, potatoes and toast. They were very happy with their choices. Being more traditional at lunchtime, I had the classic cheeseburger. It was awesome! I'm a lover of good burgers and there are quite a few places to have a really good burger on the south side. This was an exceptional burger for the price. It was large, cheesy, grilled oniony, served on a buttery grilled brioche bun. It came with a large side of crisp hot French fries. The service was very pleasant and the lunches were very good. They use fresh ingredients and you can tell that they really care about the product they put out. You can sit inside to eat with seating spread apart for distancing, or you can order your food to go. This place is a little hidden gem! We are only in Pittsburg for a week but we've already had breakfast here twice. The coffee is delicious, the eggs were perfect, the pancakes are the nice and thin tender ones, not the thick, tough kind. The potatoes are flavorful and cooked perfectly, and the French toast was actually soaked long enough in the custard so they weren't dry. The only thing...there's mold in the basement and/or bathroom, so if you have reactions to mold, don't go to the bathroom here. read more

When it comes to "gourmet cupcakes," definitely consider trying Le Petit Chocolat. I visited this cute little store along Carson Street right after lunch and was pleasantly surprised! A few people were in there eating sandwiches (they looked yummy!), while I waited patiently to order. For 3 dollars (a single cupcake) it's on the pricey side, but less than specialty cupcakes you buy in NYC or Philadelphia. I tried the Strawberry Shortcake cupcake. Strawberry buttercream, vanilla cake, AND a strawberry filling. The cake was moist, crumbly and not too sweet! The baker also carefully packaged the cake in a window pastry box, giving it a nice presentation. Next time I would like to try their chocolates though! Why didn't I go in here first when I parked in Southside? Wow, I didn't know this place served lunch in addition to chocolate! You can order paninis and other sandwiches as well as chocolate flavored drinks. They also have candy for sale. On a shelf they serve all types of delectable goodies. As far as pastry is concerned you are not limited to chocolate. They have a nice variety of cupcakes, scones, cookies, and different types of pastries. Still reeling from my lunch I opted for their chocolate chip cookie and a cranberry scone to take home with me. They served me my cookie on a china dish and gave me a bag for my scone. The place is neatly laid out and they have a few tables you can sit at. The cookie was fluffy and moist. I really enjoyed eating every bite of it. I learned also they sell chocolate chip scones but will try the cranberry one for breakfast tomorrow. They only had two types of cupcakes left when I was there. One was chocolate with a caramel drizzle icing and the other red velvet. They sell for $3.00 each. Next time I will indulge in one of these. Prices are very reasonable for lunch which warrants a return visit from me to try out one of their sandwiches as well as dessert! Can't wait to come back here. I ordered online at 8:53 and the ordering system said it would be ready at 9:30. I came to the restaurant at 9:40 and was forced to wait over twenty minutes for my food to be prepared. A customer who ordered in person directly in front of me in line received his food over fifteen minutes before my online order was filled. Pick from an array of different fancy pants french chocolates, or try out their new cupcakes. At $3 a pop, they're not cheap, but look like a decent size compared to other unnamed cupcake shops around 'tahn. Plus, the icing is light and fluffy and so is the cake. Just the way I like it. I tried the strawberry cupcake, which had homemade strawberry filling. Deeelicious. The outside looks totally unassuming, and I had mistakenly thought it was a new business, but came to find out they've been open for about a year! So don't just walk by next time, stop in!
