This is one of my favorite places in the city.! They sell new clothing and designer consignment pieces. Their new dresses are so fun and funky, I've bought about a total of six dresses from Current Boutique, (some day some night) and I get complements on them all the time. I consign my items here too. I've sold a Marc Jacobs dress that I wore once to a wedding and a Betsey Johnson dress I wore to a GALA., both sold and I used my balance as store credit to buy their awesome dresses!!! Consignment pieces are barely worn and in fantasic condition. I snagged a Gucci purse for $300...... You have to check this place out. I give it 5 stars read more

I had read a lot about this store online and was surprised by the selection. The store has a clean, spacious feel to it and funky mood music. The clothing is organized by type and then by size -- which is probably the best I have seen in any consignment shop. The jean selection was good and ample, with only good brand jeans--several that were still new w/ tags. The dress selection was good, but not a lot of big name high end designers--mostly what you would find in a Marshalls or Macys--although I did see 2 DVF dresses which were in good condition. Most of the clothing is "current" as the name states, but that includes a lot of mall clothes, some left overs from mid-level boutiques and discounters that didnt' sell at retail, and not the greatest shoe selection. The bag selection seemed pretty good, especially with regards to clutches, but they are placed up so high, its hard to really get a good look at them. A final note, parking is terrible (typical NOVA) and prices here aren't the greatest. Basic banana republic shirts will start out at $12 and some of the slightly better dresses are at least $70. read more

My absolute favorite place for orignial jewelry. This place is not only filled with vintage jewelry , bags, books, and name brand hand me downs but also full of clothing and jewelry the owner picks up in LA and NY. They are very picky about there intake which make the selection that much more fabulous. A perfect weekend shop spot located in Clarendon, where you can check out the cute coffee shop on the side street behind or pick up organic goods at whole foods just down wilson 100 yds or so. I live in this store...by far the best in the area. I can go in one week and then the very next week they have more stuff. Half my closet is from here. Staff are always sweet and helpful, they have a MAJOR amount of stuff (espcially tops - I guarantee you'll walk out of here with a top) and the prices are very reasonable. I also love the way it's laid out, you can really zip through here and not feel lost. Another plus is that, even though it's in Clarendon, because it's a little further down the street from the restaurants, you can always find parking on the street; I often am able to park right in front. On the downside if you're a consigner, they're really picky...I've had a lot of stuff rejected and I have no idea why, when I see stuff on the racks that are similar - but that's probably a plus for the buyers because they don't just take any old crap. read more

after my sister and i had a lovely first experience at the bethesda location, i was eager to swing by the arlington store (closer to work) with a load of great second-hand pieces from jcrew, diane von furstenburg, black label ralph lauren, anthropologie, pilcro, banana republic, ecru, etc. these were decent, recent pieces that i was unable to wear due to rapid weight loss because of illness. loaded with two ikea bags - one with clothes, one with shoes (which again, were great quality, excellent name recognition) - i strode into the quaint little shop with anticipation. boy, was my anticipation misplaced. the two young women at the counter were incredibly unenthused about having to stop their conversation and attend to me, but gamely pasted fake smiles on their faces and proceeded to behave rather like that snotty salesperson on "pretty woman." with scarcely concealed disdain and deep, offended sighs, they took my bags, dismissed me (literally. with the wave of a hand) to "take a look around", and then gingerly - as in, picked through my things as though there were fleas hidden within - rummaged through the bags. within 10 mins, with two items in hand, they handed back my bags, and said, "thanks," and carried on with their conversation. i still don't know why my items were not accepted. meanwhile, all six of the items i took to the bethesda location were admired and scooped up with no issue. unbelievable. for the record, the clothing i browsed as i waited was indeed quite nice, but i'm not likely to ever go to that establishment again. the sales people were much too entitled and unhelpful. read more

I work and live near the Current Boutique, and I find it hard not to go in when I walk by. Having said that, I definitely frequent the boutique. I have always loved it for the gems, those unique items you wouldn't find in the stores. Now I love it for the staff as well as the clothing. All of the staff are so sweet and fun. I look forward to every visit. The Current Boutique has changed the way I shop. I have consigned hundreds of dollars of clothing and in return have gotten so many cute new pieces. I think I have a slight advantage for living so close because it is great to be able to pop in and see the new stuff right away. I think the prices are great for both the consigner and the buyer. Some items are more expensive, but they typically are worth it and should be set at a higher price. The amount of merchandise is perfect, in that you don't feel like you have been swallowed by crap, but you do have lots to choose from. Overall, I cannot say enough positive things about the Current Boutique. I am looking forward to the new spring stuff!!! Thank you Current Boutique! read more

I appreciate the Current Boutique Management Team for taking the time with replying to customer reviews. The fact of the matter is this particular staff person at their Arlington location has been given a pass for her behavior. I suppose the store staff has the right to refuse and I have to right to patronize another business. I visited Clothes Encounters-Second Kind in DC and they offered a different vibe. Even when they check out your merchandise, you are allows to participate in the process. Unlike Current Boutique where they turn their nose up based on your hue. read more

This place is a joke. Don't consign here; they don't appreciate your business. Their business practices are predatory. And no, I'm not exaggerating. As a consignor at Current Boutique, you are responsible for checking in to see if anything has sold. If you don't, you'll never see your cut of the sales. Most consignment shops will send you a check with a tally of all items sold, at what price, and a clear-cut breakdown of what your cut is, on a regular schedule. For a lot of places, it's every 90 days. I don't know how they do their paperwork here, but it's a disorganized mess. Anyhow, I asked for my check. They said, "All checks get a $1 checking fee to cover paper, postage, etc." This fee, by the way, is required whether or not you get the check mailed to you or if you choose to pick it up. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I had just generated sales for this consignment shop, only to be charged for my own cut. This is just a sign of how poorly they treat their patrons. I complained and they would not make any exceptions, except, of course, if I wanted to get store credit for the full amount. I obviously declined. I insisted on taking back my two unsold items back. They said by contract, I am not to take back items. If I signed this, fine. But the fact that there was no flexibility whatsoever to maintain our business relationship was unsettling. Yes, they get their $1 fee and the two remaining items, but at what cost? The whole process was a mess. The staff is rude. They never thanked me for choosing to consign with them. An overall unpleasant experience. I don't get why they would insist on alienating their patrons so steadfastly, repeatedly. I guess they don't need my business. I'll never shop or consign with Current Boutique again. read more

I've consigned wth CB for a long time, and been to several of the locations but this is by far the worst due to the extreme snottiness of the employees. When reviewing my consignment bag (filled with items purchased at this exact location, high end items and some items that I knew might not be takers) I watched the associates rudely make faces at the items that did not meet their standards. I don't have any expectation that all the items I bring in will be a fit for the store, but I do have an expectation of professionalism and respect. This has pretty consistently been my experience at this location and the only reason I gave it one more chance was out of convenience. From now on I will take my business to the Old Town location that spares me the standard Arlington RBF. 2 stars because at least they kindly folded the items they didn't accept. read more

If you are a consignor looking to make a decent amount of cash, I do not recommend this place. Not only did this store not accept many of my items, but hardly any of the clothes they did accept sold! I usually take my things to Secondi in Washington, DC - that store gets better foot traffic and I always make $100 or more every time I give them my clothes! In fact after Current Boutique rejected my items I took them to Secondi and they sold within a month! It's too bad because Current Boutique is so much more convenient for me but I simply don't make any money as a consignor at this store. read more

I am dumbstruck by the snooty mentality at this place. The salesgirl told me they only take "high end" clothes when I aksed her if they had any Levi's. Excuse me. My perplexity was over seeing clothes from H&M and Ann Taylor and Banana Republic. High end??? Give me a proverbial break. To me, high end is Dior, Chanel. I think the reviews here have to be from employees. The prices are high and you can find the same clothes with sale prices in the stores on the racks as you would at this place. read more

I stopped by in August with some excellent bespoke items that I was interested in taking out of my closet in order to make room. The staff member told me to come back in October, as my items were more for the fall season and they didn't have space to store it. I then came back in October, and the other staff member who looked at my items had a snobby attitude and made me feel pretty unwelcome. I won't be back. read more

I am new to the practice of consignment and I wanted to try it. I have to say, "Don't waste your time to consign here unless you are bringing in conformist, conservative mall clothing." I brought in several dresses and blouses I purchased while living in Rome. While all my clothing was last year's autumn season, beautiful and barely worn, I cannot wear them anymore due to my postbaby weight gain. Not one of my items was chosen by the salesperson looking over my goods. I was so so surprised. In my opinion the employees need more design education to understand workmanship and style of garments. From browsing through their shop, I see that they understand and recognize "mall clothes," which anyone can find here in the United States of America, but the chic design of better clothing is lacking. Some reviewers have noted that the salespersons are "snooty" - I see that they want to show "snob appeal" to be a bit rude to feel stronger than the customer. One of the clerks pretended not to understand my English, I think, but I cannot know for sure. Well, it is obvious that they do know their American mall brands and the familiar styles of more conservative shoppers. But they do not show good fashion and design knowledge if they do not know chic Italian design, and that is missing in Washington. Another reviewer disappointed with this business wrote that a real consignment shop sells WITH you, and that if you do not sell, you pick up your goods. The Modern Boutique does not let you get unsold goods back. This is a questionable practice. They say they give them to a "charity." WHAT CHARITY? We should know which charity. Is it perhaps another of their shops? Do they get a tax write off for donating our unsold goods? I don't like this idea at all. An actual consignment shop has an incentive to sell, not hang on to, our goods. read more

I consigned with them over a month ago and have not received anything regarding my items. When I called they told me a computer was down and they would be up in a few days, nothing as of yet. A whole new season of clothes will be here by the time my summer items brought in almost a month ago will be up. read more

I think Current is definitely the easiest place to consign/sell your clothing in the DC area. Unlike Secondi, you can walk-in, they are very efficient, and it's always easy to get someone on the phone. However, they don't price your items on the spot so you just kind of have to use what you see around the store as a guide. I think it's pretty predictable what they take, though, and what they'll price it at...I've never had any surprises there, and have always been happy with the amount of my check. Pretty much anything Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Anthropologie, and J Crew that is seasonal and in good condition sells pretty well here, as do brands like Milly, tibi, Nanette Lepore, Marc by Marc Jacobs, etc. For shoppers, I definitely have very good luck here with special occasion items like dresses to wear to weddings and parties--sometimes you luck out and someone is unloading a bunch of never-worn or once-wor n dresses in your size! They try to price stuff at about a third of retail prices so that means the best deals are going to be on the stuff that doesn't ever go on sale at those prices in DC like Lilly Pulitzer dresses or Ray Ban wayfarers or large leather handbags in basic black. Cashmere sweaters can also be found here at good prices. read more

Great selection...mostly your Arlington/DC staple brands but you won't find anything unique here. Got a great J.Crew Collection trenchcoat here. Was $100 but I felt like that was a reasonable price. I asked if they ever ran specials or deals...they don't. Twice a year they have sales. No deals but fair prices. I won't go there on the regular. read more

I find the staff to be a little short and cold and slow--chatting with each other while I wait for 10-15 minutes to have my clothes examined for consignment. Their mood and energy level dictates which clothes of mine they decide to consign. Very inconsistent, sadly. They do a great business so perhaps customer service and loyalty aren't priorities. read more

This is not a consignment store. Consignment means that the store is acting as a middle man on your behalf, to sell your clothes since they have the retail space that will attract customers. It is a mutually beneficial agreement, one that will hopefully net both the consignor (you) and consignee (the store) some money. The consignments are not the property of the store, they are the property of the consignor. If your clothes have not sold during the agreed upon consignment period then they should be returned to you, the consignor. Current Boutique does NOT return your clothes. Where are the clothes donated? What keeps the sales girls honest when going through your clothes? There is no accountability here. I worked in consignment shops all through college. It is not for everyone, but when done right, you would never know that the clothes are second hand. This is a great looking shop and the owner seems really nice, but I would not want to bring my things here. read more

Ive been into current boutique a few times and have never had an awful experience, but I have a few things to say. It bothers me a little bit that you're paying close to full price for used stuff and I know that when you sell through them, you make a fraction of what you originally paid, regardless of how long you've owned the piece/how many times you've worn it. For example, if you sell a brand new shirt that retails for $80, you're probably gonna make about $10. Although the women in there are polite and happy to help, they never outright offer their help. It's kinda a shop by yourself experience and they're there to help once you're ready to check out (some may like that better, but I like to feel like I'm not alone in the store while i'm shopping). I also think they have some good pieces in store, but it's kinda like thrifting where you have to spend a lot of time looking for those good pieces. In my opinion, a lot of the things they have, I can understand why people wanted to get rid of them. Basically they're pretty out-of-style. Just my opinion, though! read more

I stumbled on this place while walking toward Boccato for some gelato and at first I thought, "Hey! This is a cute place." They have a nice selection of cute summer dresses and jeans, but the prices aren't really what you'd expect at a consignment shop. In fact, they can be shockingly high for "used" clothes--at least in my opinion. I'd recommend really hunting through their selection and asking yourself 2 hard questions, #1 "Am I OK buying these even though I might feel a little ripped off cuz they're used? and #2 "Could I get a similar deal at Loehmans or am I married to this particular style/cut from 7, Paige, or whatever?" Because Loehmans has new 7 For All Mankind jeans for $30, not used for $50. But there are some good unique finds if you're willing to chalk up the cash. read more

Very convenient shop with lots of good variety. I think the one one 14th street has a bit more eclectic, fun variety. This one in Clarendon is a bit more preppy in the offerings. In addition to the consigned items, there are brand new dresses up in the front, but the quality doesn't really match the higher prices. Stick with the consigned stuff. The girls who work there are quite friendly. Large, spacious dressing rooms. This is a great option for finding work clothes for far less than Ann Taylor or Banana Republic, and there's always a good selection of fun dresses. I always enjoy popping in to see if I need to make an impulse purchase. Consigning is very easy with them, too, although sometimes I wonder why they turn down some of my fabulous designer clothes and then I see tank tops from H&M on their racks. Oh well! read more

Sometimes when I walk into this store, I feel as if I've just walked into the movie "Mean Girls." Some of the staff are nice and friendly, but others remind me of those snobby girls we all knew in high school. I've had the same experience as Pheniece--when I've tried to consign there, they rejected things that are in-style, from high-end brands and in great condition, yet when I walk around the store, I see shabby-looking shirts, sweaters that are pilling, and scuffed shoes. Plus, as a lot of people mentioned, many of the items are from Gap and Banana Republic. I've found a few cute things there--I have the best luck with dresses--but for the most part, I'm not sure it's worth buying used clothing that can't be returned when it's not much cheaper than a decent sale at the original stores. read more

I've found everything I was looking for each time I frequent this store in particular (and I've been to all of them in the DMV area). If you're looking for work clothes, this is THE PLACE! I absolutely Love Current Boutique! There were plenty of amazing designer pieces that I felt like a kid in a candy store . Their conditions are mostly always mint so unlike most places you don't really have to worry about speculating for blemishes. The prices are reasonable and fair..For example, Gucci sheer gun powder grey blouse $99, Cashmere Jcrew Blue sweater:$40, Banana Republic green cotton Blazer:$24. I want to start by saying I really like the selection at Current. I've bought several things there in the last month and have always had a pleasant experience. However, I must say their consignment services leave much to be desired. Today I brought in small bag of articles. Most of them were in excellent/good condition. While the woman was going through the clothing, I heard her making nasty comments and faces to her coworker about the style of a couple of the dresses. While style/look will always be subjective and it's their choice what they decide to purchase, I thought the conduct was unprofessional and petty. I love the store and will be back, but keep in mind that potential consigners may be *current* - pun intended :) - customers. Don't bite the hand that feeds you! read more

This place confuses me. I may or may not return. They carry some high-end brands but also Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, H&M, Gap. So when I brought in a mix of trendy jeans, unworn shoes, and coats and a purse for consignment, I figured they would take them but they only took 3 things. Their standards seem high but judging by some of the inventory on the floor they can't be that high! I bought a pair of cute Via Spiaga flats for a decent price, but the soles were scuffed to hell. So my point is, be prepared for them to not accept your clothes and then turn around and offer scuffed up shoes and old Gap skirts. However, they get points for having an organized store. read more

They have a great selection of clothing, but most of the good stuff is way overpriced. You won't find any deals here. Also, the inside of the store is hot as hell. I wanted to stay and try on more clothes, but started dripping sweat five minutes into it and had to leave shortly after. Felt disgusted with how hot I was and all the clothes were sticking to me making for awkward fittings. They should really consider updating their a/c situation. read more

I love Current Boutique! They have a great selection of unique new and used clothes in fantastic condition. I was surprised to read the second review of this store - I've always found the sales girls to be super nice and helpful - and they give honest style advice! I think Current is way better than the Mustard Seed. Talk about unfriendly service! I've never had a good experience with the Mustard Seed. Current Boutique is great! They have amazing prices and some truly unique accessories (belts, purses, jewelry). Although it is a consignment store, the owner, Carmen, stocks new dresses for reasonable prices and everything you find there is generally in perfect or nearly perfect condition. Really fun place to buy dresses for weddings or other events or work clothes if you're like me and you want to have a good assortment of cute clothes to wear to the office but not spend a lot of money on them. I'd much rather spend my money on cool jeans and clothes for going out! read more

I love this place. Well organized and reasonable prices. I especially like how they have their suits organized- jackets and skirts priced seperately but together (for those that are different sizes top and bottom) and racks are easy to sift through (no cramming). Music is always great too, a couple of the employees make their own playlists for the store which is cool. A word of caution about consigning- I've never taken anything here but a friend of mine took a bunch of clothes and some high end shoes ($500)- her shoes didn't sell in a month and later she found out they were "donated" to charity- she never had the chance to go pick them up. Since I'm only a buyer, not a seller, I've always had positive experiences and usually go home with at least one cute, great, affordable "find". read more

The store is clean and there are great finds. Usually a nice jean selection in the back of the store; however, the prices are still high. It's not the typical consignment store where the prices go down after months on the rack (as DC competitors like Second Time Around and Secondi). If I'm buying used, I want to buy cheap, and there is nothing cheap here. read more

I'm a frequent consignor and consignment store shopper. For reference, my favorite consignment store for selection and service is Michael's on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I live a 5 min walk from the Clarendon location of Current Boutique. I have consistently consigned and shopped at this location for 5 years. I don't appreciate the $1 fee to send me a check for my sales proceeds. The staff is pleasant and drop offs are uneventful. Due to its location in Clarendon, the staff quickly accept trendy items, as that style sells well here. I save more sophisticated and timeless pieces for the McLean consignment store through which I also consign. I've found lots of fun items at the Clarendon location of Current. It helps to go regularly and look thoroughly. The store is mid range and does not have many designer items. Most items are well priced and they do not take markdowns. The racks right by the front door seem to be new items purchased for the store and I always skip them. The new, larger and brighter, location is a significant improvement over the previous location. read more

I have been to this location as well as the D.C. location several times, and really like both stores. It's fantastic to find a consignment shop that carries basic pieces along with the trendier stuff. We are not all looking for designer clothing, some of us just want a more environmentally responsible (and cheaper) way to shop! Only minor complaints: the pricing seems somewhat erratic, but I have felt this way about all consignment shops I've been to, I think it comes with the territory. Some things are also a little overpriced (Banana Republic pants for $50... I can get them on sale for that.) Overall, though, I love this store and am glad it exists as an alternative to strictly vintage/designer consignment!! read more
