White rice, black beans, organic tofu (!), lettuce, tomato pico and sour cream with hot sauce. Warm, smooth and flavorful with just enough heat to make my forehead sweat. What else do you need? We was passing thru Maryland on our way to D.C. and the pit stop was Maryland's House Travel Center. I really like it up this way of the globe because their Travel Stops all have many options to eat and clean restrooms for the public AND plenty of motorcoach parking. I went inside and never heard of Curritos , it's healthy eating and a new taste for my palette. I ordered a bowl and it sure didn't disappoint. Also, I noticed they didn't pinch out portions and would ask "Is this ok?" They are a cousin to Chipotle's I wanted to try the quesadilla but ugg decisions :)) I further enjoyed the stop because Curritos offered a complementary meal for the bus driver without expecting the generous offer. I never dine at a restaurant expecting to receive a discount as a Tour Driver but it sure helps after the pressure of driving all day and the service is fast. Friendly and curious staff. Food actually tastes pretty good. It is very expensive though for a rest stop. I had brown rice, pulled pork, mango salsa, their spiciest salsa and I asked for some guacamole. Little did I know they would charge extra for guacamole and they didn't tell me when I asked for it. It was a surprise at the register. They were not very liberal with helpings and the line was long. 1) Don't expect 5 star service during rush hours at a highway rest area. I, however, have had no problems here. Never more than 3-5 people in front of me and it moves fast with 2 employees. 2) Don't expect dollar menu discounts at the highway rest area. My rice bowl and soda was $13.12 with tax. Perfectly reasonable for the location. 3) Food is decent every time I have had it. Hot salsa, corn, and cheese on top of anything is very flavorful. Quality of meat has always been good. As good as Chipotle? Not quite but nothing to really complain about. 4) I have never had an issue with service. For what it's supposed to be- it does a decent job. Everything is overpriced at rest stops, so while I'm not happy about paying $9 for a burrito bowl, all the meals here will be around that range. The food looked pretty fresh, and I was pleased with the overall quality of the food. However, the food is on the bland side- the chicken and rice has no flavor or seasoning. In addition, the employees looked like they didn't want to be working there, and it was very hard to hear them and communicate with them. The burrito is great; they have vegan options and, unfortunately, didn't have any grilled veggies ready when we came. The service is extremely slow; there's no team work. The cashier was helping make burritos one minute and the next she propped up by the register with an attitude. She didn't greet us as we got ready to pay either. Continuing on with my Tour de Maryland House adventure, I decided to get a burrito here because I was starving and refused to pay $11 for a $6 Wendy's meal, $6.99 for a slice of pizza or a hot dog, and Phillips wasn't an option due to my allergies. So burrito it was! They don't have utensils for the taking by the napkins, sodas, and straws here at Maryland House which can be problematic when you order A GIGANTIC BURRITO! So maybe ask for some at the register. You might regret not doing so later on. Overall experience was ok. The quality was actually really good, especially the pork which I was kind of nervous about at first. My family was making bets on how sick I was going to get from getting a pork burrito at a rest stop. It was quite tasty! Just the wrong location for this place that seems to occupy mostly rest stops and airports on the east coast. If it were a brick and mortar store, I think I would actually prefer it over Chipotle in terms of eating their food at home and not on the fly. The service was fast and fantastic. On the flip side, my burrito was hot as hell and steaming for well over five minutes. Not good when you're eager to get home. It was also huge which made it really messy to eat in the car because it wasn't cooling off. Not traveler friendly! Currito is similar to chipotle and qdoba. The ingredients are fresh. I got the organic tofu burrito bowl with brown rice and mango. I was pretty happy with how it tasted. I wanted guacamole but it was an extra $2 for it. Which is pretty steep for an addon. The prices were higher than most places like this but it was in a rest stop food court so it was expected. I have dietary restrictions, and I have eaten at this particular location (The Maryland House) more times than I care to admit. It's always a leisurely experience, but generally the food is colder than I'd like, saltier than I'd like, but adequate -- it's no Chipotle. This time, the food was still adequate... but the service, which is always pretty terrible, was on another level. The person taking my order actually worked at Wendy's and was filling in. While I was waiting for my food -- and they were mobbed, out of half of their supplies (including guac and corn) -- a man ordered a burrito because he said the cashier dropped his on the floor and that she "probably needs a break." When I got to the cashier, I was pretty struck by how out of it she seemed. I had to prompt her to get the machine to prompt me to pay. Anyway, by the time I checked out, the food was pretty chilly. But I ask, please can you increase the staff so they don't have to borrow employees from other stalls? read more

Just finished a delicious burrito bowl from Currito Burrito Express and I've got some thoughts. 1. It was delicious. The beans had a delicious smokiness and the rice was fresh and perfectly cooked. They had a really good variety of hot sauces -- get the green! 2. It was not express. It took so long to get my food because the staff was badly overworked. There was a Disney World-meets-TSA length line to put in an order. It wasn't staff incompetence as much as just a need for more employees. There was also the slight issue of cleanliness as well. I spotted a fly checking out my food as I waited to pay. Luckily for him, he thought better of landing on my meal. 3. It was a good deal. 8 bucks for a huge amount of food works for me. Basically this place is a rip-off of Chipotle, but it doesn't taste nearly as good. Considering it is at the rest stop along I-95 in Maryland I guess it gets enough business from hungry travelers. I had a burrito bowl served by an employee who was clearly bothered to be at work and/or helping me. I've stopped at the Maryland House countless times while driving on 95 but usually just to use the bathroom. My Maryland House review is another story! And that's in its own review. Spoiler alert.... its not good! We needed food this time and the options were pretty bad for a vegetarian. But we figured Currito Burritos would be good for a mexican veggie bowl. how can you go wrong, right? Wrong!! It started off pretty normal. Bowl or salad or burrito. I opted for bowl. Brown or white rice? Brown. Which beans? black or Pinto? Black. Which protein? I'll have veggie. You mean onions? That's the only veggie? You don't have mixed onions and peppers, just onions? Yup. Ok, I guess I'll have the onions. So right now my bowl is plain brown rice. And when I say plain I mean plain. No cilantro, no salt, no flavor. Just bland brown rice. Black beans and sautéed onions. Off to the toppings. I have hope. They have a lovely mango salsa and it doesn't cost extra. So I get the pico, mango salsa, lettuce (Which hopefully is not romaine from Arizona because this is after the romaine scare earlier this spring, but I'm confident its fine) and I would like to get the guac, which looks chunky and house made, but pretty light in color and I'm not sure why its not greener. But... a scoop of guac costs $3 extra, even on a vegetarian burrito, which remember is only onions! $3 people. $3 on top of the already ridiculously overpriced rest stop food cost. Which is perplexing considering there is no upgrade for the lovely mango salsa, which by the way is going to turn out to be the only redeeming character in this whole story. So we (my husband is also getting a veggie bowl and has basically the same things but gets different toppings) question the extra cost of the guac and the manager who has been the counter person serving us says that's the price and does not offer us an alternative. We point out that this is a veggie bowl and at Chipotle they do not charge extra for guac on a veggie bowl. But he doesn't care what they do at chipotle. This is Currito and they charge extra and only have onions and don't season their rice. So why should they care what the customer wants?! The cashier was pleasant and seemed embarrassed by the whole guac thing and actually agreed with us and said she doesn't understand it either. She was very nice but pretty clueless. We asked for bags to take our bowls to go and she seem confused. Why would we want bags? But she gave us 2 little bags, the only size they have. And guess what? They are way too small to fit a bowl. What is the point of them. I see that they will fit one burrito. But why give them to us if they wont fit a bowl? We have bowls! So off we go, bowls in hand, not in bags. No napkins, no forks, nada. We decide to eat at a table and then get back in the car since it will be too hard to eat this in the car for driver. Ok...taste test....here we go. Blech! I'm telling you...I don't know how you can make mexican food with no flavor, but Currito has found the recipe! The only good thing in the whole bowl, and the only thing with a delightful flavor was the mango salsa. So Currito gets 1 star for terrible, non-customer service trained manager, bland food with no flavor, bad veggie option, and ridiculous price and up charge. They get one star and not zero stars for good mango salsa and pleasant, yet clueless cashier. Currito corporate, here's my advice to you. Please supply customer service training to your managers. Please change your recipes so your food has flavor. Please reevaluate your pricing and up-charge. From now on we will continue driving to the Delaware House where there are much better food choices. In summary....If you can avoid the Maryland House, don't stop here!! read more

Stopped by here on my way back from the south enroute to Philly. A few things: 1) Food is horrible. I love Mexican food, and eat at Mexican restaurants several times a week. This place is absolutely horrible. It is honestly the worst food I ever had. I practically gagging. I'm not even a Chipotle or Qdoba die hard, but damn they are both so much better. I doubt it is just this location as every location I have been at is this bad. 2) Service is slow and lethargic. It might be the grind of dealing with the traffic, but damn does the place move at a snail's place, and I am a pretty easy going guy. 3) Not many options, and all the options are stale and disgusting. Absolute garbage food. I've never had bad Mexican food until now. I don't think they used a single spice in their food, it was very bland. I spent $10 on a burrito bowl and fed it to my dogs because it was so bad. Customer service was also terrible. I couldn't hear or understand them, and they seemed overall miserable that they needed to help me. I was getting a veggie bowl, which was literally just onions. Currito is in a highway-side food court, but they actually have the best burrito this Californian has had on the East Coast to date. Very tasty, fresh ingredients, and genuinely friendly staff. They even have organic tofu, so the high-protein vegetarian option is still GMO-free. You've still got to be prepared to spend $10 for the described burrito, but for it's convenience I'm very impressed, and I would definitely make a point of coming back. read more

Such a shame that the service is so bad because the food was actually good! Corporate definitely needs to pay a visit and do some damage control. I never knew that a place like this could have service so bad. I'm not one to judge a place on their service if the workers don't get tipped, but this place was just too much. Most of the workers hide in the back to avoid work, even when there's no one in the front working; even when there are 30 people in line. When they are in the front, they either flirt with each other or stare off into space. Not courteous at all. I heard the customer in front of me telling them to hand her the food (there were 2 people staring into space), and the cashier called the customer a bitch after she had paid and left with the food. Although the worker may have been frustrated, I still find it inappropriate to curse while within earshot of other customers and their kids. I really hope that the manager will see this and give some proper training, or hire people of better integrity. read more

I was terribly disappointed in the lack of options available at this location and the staff/service. I have traveled I-95 many times, and we have stopped on three separate occasions to attempt to try a burrito that was supposed to be unique. The first time the line was way too long, which I imagined was a good thing, so I looked forward to a future attempt. The second time it was closed. I couldn't imagine why other options in the Maryland House were open, but I guess that happens sometimes. I finally got there 3/30, and I was excited that there was only a minimal line. When I approached, the woman behind the counter was yelling out to those in line that there were only two meat options available, and she actually looked disappointed when people shrugged and stayed in line. I got up to the counter and realized that they did not have any of the unique burritos listed on the website. It was basically an attempt at being Chipotle, but more expensive. They were out of rice, out of black beans, and I believe someone in front of me asked for sour cream, and they were out of that too. When I got the pulled pork, I was asked if I wanted it Hawaiian style, so I got a little more excited thinking that perhaps they just rotate their offerings, and said yes. I imagined pineapple and maybe teriyaki sauce or something like that, but what I got were just sauteed onions. I'm fine with onions, but I don't know what made that "Hawaiian" specifically. The burrito was fine for what it ended up being, but I will never make an attempt to go there again, and it may have put me off from trying any of their locations because I have no hope that they will have anything they say they do. read more

Once I got online behind about six people place my order or a burrito and a chicken bowl, I realized the line has not move and isn't moving. There's the same frustrating look on everyone ahead of me. The guy at the register is ringing up one person for every three orders placed! 30 minutes later I finally get to pay, they gave me the wrong burrito even though I pointed out they were giving me the wrong one!
