I haven't been on South Blvd for a while, as I was at Swirl, I checked Yelp to see what was nearby for takeout. I was pleased to see a Curry Gate location less than 4 miles away. I used to go to the one on North End area. Upon entering, no one was at the counter, so I grabbed a menu and sat down. I was approached by a young lady, asked if I was dining in or takeout. I was given a bottle of water. I was asked to go to the counter to order. I asked what options could be made vegan and without dairy. That information was very helpful. I was told you must specify vegan when ordering to ensure it is made vegan. I settled on the gobi aloo as my vegan option. I opted for spice level 4. The order took about 20 minutes. The atmosphere is very quiet. Tables are set with a small artificial flower arrangement at the center. Dishes, silverware, and napkins are nicely laid out. Staff was pleasant. The food wasn't our favorite. My husband once again took out the hot sauce. He states it was almost mild. I agreed when I ate the food alongside him. The food tasted somewhat bland, which is a weird way to describe cuisines from that region where spices are a key component in the flavor of the dishes. The portion was good though. read more

I am a huge fan of curry gate and was so excited to see a second location on south blvd after moving further away from uptown. I've always done take out and have never been disappointed but tonight we dined in and it was even better. I requested this spot for my birthday since my boyfriend had never tried any of my take out orders. He was also blown away. This a clean and brighter ambient small restaurant where I unexpectedly patronized. I was warmly welcomed by a beautiful humble looking Nepalese wait staff Miss Puja was amazing. I ordered a veg Manchurian , veg Mo:Mo and a stuffed naan. I am so amazed by my first bite of Manchurian that was nicely tempered by a various Himalayan spices and sauce of pungent and mouth melting taste in my buds. I've lived in Charlotte my whole life and Curry Gate is hands down the best hidden gem in Charlotte. My boyfriend first introduced me last year since I've never tried authentic Nepali food and he is originally from Nepal. We visit here at least 2-3 times a month and we love it! I highly recommend the Steamed Momo's with the momo chutney (order extra momo sauce!) it's fantastic! I also love the Manchurian chicken with gravy i typically order it wet if you like saucy ( it's sweet and spicy) if not then try it dry! The Goat Biriyani is fabulous paired with the Keema Nann. Another personal favorite is the Chicken Korma (you can adjust the spice level which is pictured on the menu if you're a lightweight on spice I'd recommend a 1-2! For me some to-go curry, lamb kadai to be exact on the space scale of 10. I have eaten Indian food all over the world, and I will tell you that this is the tastiest kadai I have ever tasted.
