How lucky am I that this place opened up around the corner from me?! Al-Basha is a small halal restaurant located right off of the popular Montford Drive. This location is perfect because as everyone knows, lamb and rice is one of the best meals to consume after a night out. It's science. But hey don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Kebabs, shawarma, and even a fire cheese steak! The place has a small dining room so it's perfectly suitable to dine in but it makes great take out as well. They have delicious wraps, but personally I prefer the street style platters, meat piled up over rice and drizzled in various sauces with incredible flavor. It doesn't look fancy, but it is pure deliciousness. I will for sure be a regular here. If you find yourself at a bar on Montford and you start to feel hungry, take the short walk over and prepare to have your world rocked.

From the moment we walked in, we felt incredibly welcomed. Mido (I hope I'm spelling that right!) truly went above and beyond. His energy was amazing, and you can tell he is genuinely passionate about his family's business; as he absolutely should be (it's a true gem). He even gave us fantastic recommendations for what to try on our next visit! The food? Phenomenal! I've been craving food like this since moving down from NY some years ago. I always feared that if I found a place, it wouldn't measure up. Not the case here! The flavors are truly top tier and tasted just as good as they looked and smelled. That alone is a 5/5, but the incredible customer service just puts this place over the top. We live about 30 minutes away and were just in the area, so we ordered takeout. Let me tell you, the smells on the car ride home were torture (in the best way!). While it's not right in our neighborhood, I will absolutely travel for food this good;it is certainly worthwhile. We will definitely be back to work our way through the rest of the menu! Highly recommend.

Al-basha is back, and lucky me the new location is down the street! Called in a pick up order for the Pyramid wrap. It was ready on time and the staff were great. The wrap was just as good as I remembered. Everything was flavorful and fresh. Love the sauces.

Delicious, well priced, fresh food! Very clean with amazing service. Great portion sizes and so flavorful. There were no moments that I thought "I wish there was more seasoning." No frills, but who needs them when the food comes out like this! Will be back to try everything! Staff was soooo kind and attentive

Al-Basha has officially risen from the ashes of its old location (literally... it burned down two years ago) and has found new life in the old Beyond Amazing Donuts spot on Montford Rd. The donuts are gone, but now there's falafel, so I'd call that a win. Walked in on a Friday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. Which honestly feels wrong because the service was top tier. The staff checked in often, smiled the whole time, and called us "habibi" more times than my love life ever has. It was comforting in a way therapy just can't match. I ordered the Mixed Appetizer Plate with hummus, baba ghanouj, and falafel. The hummus was smooth, the baba was smoky, and both were swimming in olive oil like they were training for the Olympics. The falafel were perfectly crispy on the outside, bright green and fluffy on the inside. You could hear the crunch. We split the Mixed Grill for our main, which came with chicken, lamb, and beef kebabs laid out over a golden bed of rice. There's also a choice of fries or salad. The meat was flavorful and juicy, also served the roasted tomato and the aggressive(they warned us) grilled green spicy pepper hanging out on the side like it was there to stir up drama. The pita served was the thin kind. More toasted, less fluffy. If you're hoping for the soft, puffy Yafo-style Angel Pita that doubles as a pillow, this ain't it. But if you like a little crisp and chew, you'll be good. They also offer fresh juices, which I may try next time, because I made the mistake of ordering a Diet Coke and got handed a can of Food Lion Diet Cola like it was contraband. And they charged me two bucks for it. If you're gonna give me off-brand soda from aisle seven, at least pour it into a cup and lie to me. I wanted to be mad, but the falafel and hummus calmed me down. This is locally owned Egyptian-style Mediterranean food. It's a casual spot, easy to park, and deserves more traffic. I'll definitely be back, probably for a sandwich and definitely not for the soda. instagram.com/charlottefoodieguy evansfoodguide.com

My family and I had the pleasure of eating lunch here on August 3rd. The food was amazing & the service was impressive to say the least! Street Mixed (Chicken & Lamb) is pictured. The portions were great in relation to the prices & we were greeted as soon as we walked in! The restaurant was kept neat and very clean. You can really taste the love in their food. My family and I will definitely be back!

Incredible food and hospitality! We enjoyed the mixed grill with a side of hummus. Everything was delicious. This will be a routine stop from here on out.

AVOID THIS LOCATION!…read more My family that resides in Clt started coming to this location because of the proximity to their house, but after this past visit on June 20th, none of us will ever be back again after the absolute awful service! And, as anyone knows, you can have amazing food, but if the people and service are terrible that can ruin any dining experience! We were sat in an almost empty restaurant just after 8pm; the waiter came to take our order and was very engaging initially. We were a party of 6, so we were going to order 4 diff apps prior to the mixed grill which is what we always get. We ordered the hummus, falafel (2 orders because only 6 come per order), baba ganoush, and beef sambousa. We were told they were "out" of the baba ganoush & sambousas cuz they would have to make them and it would take like an hr...this sounded odd cuz umm, don't you make all your food to order?? This immediately put both my stepmom (who is Moroccan) and myself off and we were actually going to leave, but we were introducing my brother's GF to this ethnic food style & him + my dad convinced us to stay, so we just added salad and lentil bean soups). We ordered drinks (the GF & I were the only ones that didn't order sodas; she ordered a pot of Karak tea for her + I to share & I ordered a sparkling water). After 10mins no drinks in sight we were like "ummm?" then at just over 15mins they brought us the apps but no drinks?!? The drinks came separately a few mins later...all except the tea. For $3 on the menu I expected a bottled sparkling water, instead I got flat water from the soda fountain. I told the waiter this and he said he'd try again and if it wasn't "sparkling" then what did I want to drink instead...I said just a filtered water w/lemon. We were missing an order of falafel (were told they only had the one order and would have to wait for the 2nd, so we just canceled it; again whyTF did they not have anything on the menu at 8pm on a Sat!?) and they only brought one basket of pita for the hummus; we asked for a 2nd basket. The lentil soup (my stepmom makes better at home) + salads were mid at best. 20mins later they bring the main course, but we still had not gotten the pot of tea we ordered nor did the guy ever come back w/my "sparkling" or plain water...we'd had enough of this horrible service & I went in search of someone (the place again was empty & I could not find our waiter or anyone anywhere). Finally I see this lady who had attitude (I have a sneaking suspicion she pretended not to understand english when convenient) when I asked WTAF was up w/my water & the tea! Again, another 10mins w/neither showing up at the table...we were also still waiting for the 2nd basket of pita, but it was moot as we'd already begun to eat the main dish...my stepmom went to the lady & spoke to her in arabic and was like "where is her water and where is her tea!?" the lady said she was sorry she didn't know we didn't get them (BS btw) that's when my stepmom asked to speak to the mgr. We also wanted to order Knfa for dessert, so my stepmom told the lady we were ordering 3 now since they were taking forever to get anything to us, and if they didn't bring them when we were done eating, we would not be paying for them. THAT part seemed to get through at least! Halfway (almost an hr at this point) through the meal they finally come w/my water and the pot of Karak tea. At this point we hadn't seen the male waiter who took our order initially; he shows up & is acting huffy (the audacity tbh!) & tries telling me he never said he'd bring a 2nd sparkling or reg water & when both me and my stepmom (cuz she was sitting next to me & heard the exchange called him out) he got all defensive & said "well I guess I misunderstood" so then we are like "why an hr for the tea?" "Wellll, that's how long it takes to make!" I called BS & told him if that was the case he should have told us that expectation when we initially ordered! He then goes "Well I had to go to storage to find it cuz we were out!" K, howTF is that OUR problem!? Just tell us that so we know what to expect!? No apology was made and we were not credited for the tea nor the $3 sparkling water which I never received. Also, received the Knfa (shockingly, right after the meal) but it was served w/o the pistachios it was supposed to come with. When asked for them, we were told they were "out"...because of course they were! Absolutely HORRIBLE staff and service here; the food was good tho, but when u have an experience like that it still leaves a bad taste!

This is an order at the counter sit wherever kind of casual restaurant and the lively environment…read morereally exemplified how solid this restaurant is for lots of middle eastern people in charlotte. To start, The service was quick and the workers were very kind. I ordered the hummus and pita bread which comes served warm and the hummus is creamy and flavorful with a side of spicy green pepper and mayo which all complimented each other very well. I ordered the half chicken with yellow rice and while the flavor was unique and the rice was wonderful, the chicken was admittedly dry, which was a let down. The lentil soup on the side was creamy and had great flavor. On the flip side, my dad ordered the Greek salad with chicken kebab on top and that chicken was phenomenal with a great char and was super moist- I'll be sure to order this if I want chicken from here again. The salad was a very generous portion and came with loads of chicken, pickles, tomato, feta, olives, and the dressing was simple but paired perfectly- it was basically lemon juice and herbs. I also ordered the coconut-like cake (?) that they had on a side counter by the register where you can take as many slices as you want but I just took a pre portioned serving of 4 pieces. It was a mildly crumbly cake but it was incredibly moist with what I presume is a sweet syrup and coconut flakes on top. It was a great way to finish the meal. Overall, great food and would love to come back and try more menu items
