How lucky am I that this place opened up around the corner from me?! Al-Basha is a small halal restaurant located right off of the popular Montford Drive. This location is perfect because as everyone knows, lamb and rice is one of the best meals to consume after a night out. It's science. But hey don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Kebabs, shawarma, and even a fire cheese steak! The place has a small dining room so it's perfectly suitable to dine in but it makes great take out as well. They have delicious wraps, but personally I prefer the street style platters, meat piled up over rice and drizzled in various sauces with incredible flavor. It doesn't look fancy, but it is pure deliciousness. I will for sure be a regular here. If you find yourself at a bar on Montford and you start to feel hungry, take the short walk over and prepare to have your world rocked. read more

From the moment we walked in, we felt incredibly welcomed. Mido (I hope I'm spelling that right!) truly went above and beyond. His energy was amazing, and you can tell he is genuinely passionate about his family's business; as he absolutely should be (it's a true gem). He even gave us fantastic recommendations for what to try on our next visit! ​The food? Phenomenal! ​I've been craving food like this since moving down from NY some years ago. I always feared that if I found a place, it wouldn't measure up. Not the case here! The flavors are truly top tier and tasted just as good as they looked and smelled. That alone is a 5/5, but the incredible customer service just puts this place over the top. ​We live about 30 minutes away and were just in the area, so we ordered takeout. Al-Basha has officially risen from the ashes of its old location (literally... it burned down two years ago) and has found new life in the old Beyond Amazing Donuts spot on Montford Rd. The donuts are gone, but now there's falafel, so I'd call that a win. Walked in on a Friday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. Which honestly feels wrong because the service was top tier. The staff checked in often, smiled the whole time, and called us "habibi" more times than my love life ever has. It was comforting in a way therapy just can't match. I ordered the Mixed Appetizer Plate with hummus, baba ghanouj, and falafel. The hummus was smooth, the baba was smoky, and both were swimming in olive oil like they were training for the Olympics. The falafel were perfectly crispy on the outside, bright green and fluffy on the inside. You could hear the crunch. We split the Mixed Grill for our main, which came with chicken, lamb, and beef kebabs laid out over a golden bed of rice. There's also a choice of fries or salad. The meat was flavorful and juicy, also served the roasted tomato and the aggressive(they warned us) grilled green spicy pepper hanging out on the side like it was there to stir up drama. The pita served was the thin kind. More toasted, less fluffy. If you're hoping for the soft, puffy Yafo-style Angel Pita that doubles as a pillow, this ain't it. But if you like a little crisp and chew, you'll be good. They also offer fresh juices, which I may try next time, because I made the mistake of ordering a Diet Coke and got handed a can of Food Lion Diet Cola like it was contraband. And they charged me two bucks for it. If you're gonna give me off-brand soda from aisle seven, at least pour it into a cup and lie to me. I wanted to be mad, but the falafel and hummus calmed me down. This is locally owned Egyptian-style Mediterranean food. It's a casual spot, easy to park, and deserves more traffic. Al-Basha is a gem. I actually wound up in here pretty late in the evening, looking for good food I wouldn't regret eating the next day... What I ended up finding is quite possibly one of the top Mediterranean/Arabic spots in CLT. First things, first: thank heavens they were open late! And usually when you walk into a place late, you often get "closing service." Not this place. The two gentlemen I encountered were both so welcoming and helpful. All smiles. I got the mixed plate, and man... everything is SOo good here. Chicken Kebab's can be tricky, but this place consistently makes it competitively good with the lamb and beef skewers. The rice the kebabs lay on and dipping yogurt were all top notch! After scarfing down my plate, I asked the young gentlemen if I can take a mango lassi to-go (they don't have Mango Lassi on the menu). Mistakenly I said mango lassi when they typically offered Mango smoothies. The gentleman said no problem, I can whip one up and wow, it was one of the best I've had in a while! What I love about this place is how grounded everything is. Typically with the quality level of the food found here, you have a much more boujee place, but this place feels much more authentic, stripped of any pretentiousness, just good food from good people. Food is an easy 10+/10. Absolutely delicious. There is no food even similar to Al-Basha anywhere in this part of Charlotte, and that is coming from someone who has lived here since 2010. The people there were also the nicest. Gave me a great reccomendation of what to eat, came quick, and like i said earlier, tasted phenomenal. The restaurant itself is also incredibly clean, new, and has a great atmosphere with music, a lot of seating, and a tv. One of my new favorite spots in Charlotte. read more
