I ordered the fried chicken and what arrived was a hard, shriveled up, brown thing. This could have been succulent, if it had been breaded and not fried to oblivion. The only saving grace was that in the over-frying, the skin came out deliciously crispy. Our service took FOREVER tho' there weren't THAT many tables occupied and there were a couple of servers. I usually love this place but after tonight's meal, that has all changed. I have been coming here for years and I really don't think I'll be coming back. First ordered was a Mikey's OG pizza, delicious normally, however they ran out of white sauce so they thought a red sauce was acceptable? But what really got me was this pathetic excuse of chicken wings. I wasn't a huge wing fan until I had their wings years back and have continued to get them pretty perfect. Tonight's wings, if you want to call them that, were horrible to even look at. I'm tempted to leave them out for the raccoons, but even they would reject them. We've been here at least 10 times. Everything we've got has been very good. Chicken Sandwich, Tamales and Papusas are great.

My wife and I come here regularly for take-out. They always give me an accurate time frame, easy in, easy out. I believe we get the special, it comes with a corn tamale, a pork tamale, beans, chicharon, sourcream, fried plantains, 2 popusas (a cheese and bean one, and a chicharon). Delicious. New Salvadorian place just opened. My hubby and I were looking for pupusas near home because we fell in love with them when we were in Belize. When we saw this restaurant, we had to give it a chance even though there were only a few people in it. I think most folks don't know what type of food Salvadorian is and so that's why, but once you try it, it's something to eat over and over again. We had the traditional carne guisada which is served at Salvadorian parties and of course pupusas. Cuscatlan is so delicious! This is my favorite spot. Usually I go with bean and cheese pupusas, but all the pupusas are tasty, and the curtido is always fresh. Not to mention, they have some pretty good salsa to go with it. My current favorite dish is the mariscada (seafood soup). It's so light, creamy and has a generous helping of fish, octopus and crab legs. I have also had the pizza in the past which I enjoy, it's very unique and the crust is awesome. 10/10 for cuscatlan! read more

I tried this restaurant with a Groupon and was mot disappointed! The pupusas are delicious and very filling, be warned. Two was plenty for me. They are served with a mild salsa, but a spicier one is available. The Chicken Guisado is also very good, I have been back twice in the same week! I came here in the late afternoon during the week. The food was okay, it was lacking taste. I ordered a "salvadorian" horchata because the waitress bragged about how creamy and delicious it was, how it taste better than the regular "mexican" horchata... it did not! I had to stop by for a quick meal and found this place on Yelp. A small, dark sit-down restaurant in the downtown area of Escondido, this place had character written all over it. Unfortunately I was short on time, but the server was extremely accommodating. On her recommendation, I got a pork and a chicken tamale since they were the fastest food. They came wrapped in banana leaves and were pretty good sized for only being like $2.50 a pop. The homemade horchata was dope too. Entire bill came out to less than $8 and I was full, and in and out of there in like 15 minutes (by my own choice) -- it was incredible. Don't know if I'll ever be back in the area but if I am, I'd definitely come back here to get a proper meal! read more

It came with a bit of salad, very good seasoned rice, and the most amazing fresh thick tortillas. The pupusas had bits of burnt cheese that had leaked out - yum! It was pretty busy on a Friday night. My server saw me, maybe 3 times. I ordered the mushroom pupusa and the zucchini pupusa, then the carne asada plate. Too much food!! But whatevs. Definitely didn't like the zucchini pupusa, but my server was too busy to flag down. Loved trying this place! I am always a fan of trying new types of food. The two pupusa lunch special was really reasonable. A pupusa is like a folded quesadilla. The waitress also recommended we get the sample platter to try a little bit of everything. We had a group of six and total bill was around $70, not bad! I tried the chicken/jalepeno and the lorato pupusas. Apparently lorato is a unique herb, and the waitress was right, really hard to describe, you just have to try it. It was good, definitely a different flavor. They also had a bomb hot sauce on the table for our use. The sampler platter had many things, including plantains, tamale, more pupusa, among other things. For those of you who don't know, a pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish made of a thick, handmade corn tortilla that is usually filled with a blend of the following: cheese cooked pork meat ground to a paste consistency refried beans, or queso con loroco. I ordered the cheese and jalapeño pupusa, comes with a lot of cole slaw on the side. Very yummy and fresh tasting! Also ordered the fried fish, which my waitress says is her favorite. Very good as well! Comes with a side of rice and black beans. The beans had a lot of flavor! I loved all that I ordered, small quaint place, cute outdoor patio seating. Unique dishes are why I come here. There are no other Salvadorean restaurants nearby. Their pupusas are decent, and I like their fried fish. Their empanadas and their fruit drinks are very good. On the other hand, this place has pretty poor service. Food always takes forever to prepare even when it's dead, and the waitresses don't seem too concerned with checking on you, or caring at all about your meal. We've also had an experience where one was out right rude about having to retrieve takeout from the back. Still, we come here every once in a while, again, for the unique food. read more
