Beyond satisfied with the treatment here. Absolutely upstanding. Very presentable, personable and honest. I came in with an '82 Ford Bronco with a sound system installed by a previous owner. I had some very mysterious cutting out of sound, losing power to amplifier, loss of sub power, overheating of certain cables that lead to melting of equipment. I came in with a slew of concerns and Mitchell quickly and accurately identified the part that was defective and replaced it within 10 minutes. Everything was running fine until one of the fuses became loose and failed to make contact which led to awful connection and back and forth explosions from the sub. I did not have an appointment or have a diagnostic scheduled at all.... John took time out of his work to step outside with me in the heat to trace issues and troubleshoot multiple reasons for the deficiency. He had me bring in the sub to test it as well as the amplifier and connections to the head unit. He again, identified the culprit and got me set up himself to resolve my dilemma. Starting from the smallest issue and working up, rather than trying to hustle me into expensive equipment was impressive and refreshing. I am actually here today (after selling the Bronco) with my 2005 Infiniti G35 to have them install a Kenwood DDX392. After realizing I was a simple guy but also not cutting me short of great features, I'm pleased to see a huge difference in sound quality because of the professional opinions of these guys. John is great with every customer that has come in and makes it a point to make it a personal and thoughtful relationship. I have been to car audio shops for 12 years or so including other custom sounds and this is by far the smoothest and least stressful location I've been to regardless of the circumstance. I had approximately $5k worth of new audio work done to my car at a different Custom Sounds location and was not pleased with the results. I visited this location for warranty issues and John DeYoung stepped up to make everything right. John was extremely knowledgeable about every issue and had Mitch explain the work that would be performed. Where the other store had been a little sloppy with the installation (something I did not mention), John and Mitch not only got the new system where I wanted it they also made sure the sloppy work was corrected. My review goes beyond how I was treated though. Since I had some down time, I waited at the store for the warranty issues to be addressed. While I was there I had a chance to watch John interact with other customers and really appreciated his entire demeanor and attitude with them. John was not about trying to make a sale--he took the time to educate his customers. When you are spending money on luxury items like audio upgrades, it is reassuring to know you are dealing with a professional that respects what you want instead of simply making a sale. Mr. DeYoung LISTENS. That is a quality which is missing in a lot of sales professionals these days. Going forward, anytime I find myself wanting tint or audio work performed John DeYoung and his staff will get my business. Their location may not be the convenient one for me but these guys have earned my respect across the board. I bought 2 Orion subwoofers, amp and a box online. I needed an extra battery for more power and wanted my box and wires cleaned up and professionally done. The battery I wanted was $300 ($170 online), the box I got for the subs was too big for my trunk so I asked if they could somehow scrap or sell the box (a $500 box) and create a new one for my subwoofers specifications. He said he could make me a box and install the battery and subs (amp was already installed). I said great, how much money are we talking? He said after he creates the custom box and installs the battery (already had installed capacitor) my total would be around $1,200....they really wanted $900 for a custom box and a over priced $300 battery. Ridiculous, I'll take my business elsewhere. The wire were already to go for the battery, and a sub box isn't worth $900. The $500 sub box that didn't fit was a top of the line box. I was willing to pay $900 out the door, but he would rather loose the money than make the deal read more

Too much to tell but very un satisfied... Would highly not recommend. Don't feel like giving custom sounds the time to explain why my experience was rated so low. Their corporate offices as well as store locations all reflect on each other. No use going to them or directing your time to their establishment seeing that they will not give customer service to all equally. Very poor managed corporation and am sad to say I spent any money with them. There are many more stereo and tint installers around San Antonio that you would be much better off going to. If reviews from others help me to decide on where I would like to spend my money and time then to the ones whom read this please take it into consideration when making a decision for yourself. Disappointed at the highest of levels. Learned from my mistake and can only hope others do not make the same one as I did. read more

Working in a Customer Service industry myself, I understand the importance of Great service. John went above and beyond any expectation I have. When I went in to the store he was working alone but was quick to acknowledge me letting me know he would be with me soon as possible. I watched as he dealt with 2 customers in front of me while he also answered phone calls. My first thoughts were how would I get any kind of service with how busy he was. Much to my amazement, he gave the same experience to each of his customers. I came in to purchase a backup camera interface module for $250 and he took the same care with me as the customer purchasing $1000. His product knowledge and customer service are not easily matched in this day in retail. Excellent service! I brought an older car in to have the windows re-tinted. I spoke with John. He showed me several samples, was very knowledgeable in types and helped decide the best shade. I appreciate that he was upfront with informing me that removing my old Texas baked-on tint may damage my defroster in my rear window. He also gave me a reasonable quote and time frame of when to expect my car to be ready. Wow was I surprised! My car was ready on time AND my rear defroster still works!! Money well spent! I found out the tint tech was named Brian. He did a fantastic job!
