[[HIGHLIGHT]]The Car Audio Shop is the only crew that I'll trust with my current and future vehicles. The crew consists of Nick, Chris, and Nick. These fellas are kind, understanding, professional, hardworking, reliable, etc.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'll go on in this review to explain how an installation with multiple hiccups and hurdles proved that The Car Audio Shop deserves five stars. ---------------- ANDROID HEAD UNITS ---------------- I ordered a beautiful 12" Android head unit and asked TCAS to install it. Nick initially refused, mentioning customers are never satisfied with them and neither are they. I paid for them to put it in after the warning, and I saw what they meant. It didn't work with steering wheel controls, sounded awful, etc. I hated it on day one of install and scheduled my next visit that day. ---------------- STINGER HEAD UNITS ---------------- TCAS only sells and installs what they put in their own vehicles, and I understand why. This Stinger head unit has my 2016 4Runner feeling more like a 2026. Everything works and integrates well, and the sound quality is incredible. ---------------- COST ---------------- $100/hr. Don't let this scare you. Whenever I stopped in for surprise visits over the days they had my 4Runner, there were almost always two or all three working on it at the same time. ---------------- WORK ETHIC ---------------- Find a chair in their shop. I triple dog dare you. When these guys are on the task, they're working and working hard. ---------------- WORK WARRANTY ---------------- Unfortunately for me, the dash cam rear view mirror main unit and one camera were faulty. The manufacturer sent me a replacement and TCAS worked 5 hours at no cost to me on a Saturday to get me fixed up. read more

I had Nick install a set of BavSound speakers in my BMW 640i Gran Turismo - the car was done as promised and on-time. I noticed that the center channel was distorted somewhat and after returning, his techs found the mid base driver in the center channel was defective. It wasn't their fault. But they didn't charge me additional labor to diagnose it and aren't going to, to replace it once it comes in. For all they knew, it would be a one and done. But they still treated me courteously. Nick and his guys are affable, knowledgeable and really do have a passion for the work they do. After some discussion and letting Nick see/hear the ... interesting calibration I had on my 2009 BMW 135i's current setup, I decided to have the car upgraded with some BMW-specific Morels including their Subwoofer and an Audiotec-Fischer DSP. Anxiously awaiting the end results. I'm pretty sure I'll be thrilled with the results, and I'm already looking at getting them to install a dash cam. A first impression means a lot. And Nick has been great to work with in achieving my specific goals and has been gracious with the BavSound issue. I see why he's so highly rated here. I'll follow up this review with some detailed impressions of the install and DSP setup. Highly recommend this shop though. Especially if you've got a German car. --- Post Car reception Initial Impressions: I got the car back from Nick as promised at 5:30 on a Saturday. AND he had his guys replace the faulty center channel speaker in the 640i! The sound quality in the 135i was night and day difference. I did a little bit of fiddling with the DSP tune to get it how I liked it with my reference songs, and also set the options up to prioritize the line out from my stereo in case I receive phone calls or decide to use the built-in navigation. Tapered off the low-end a bit since the subs aren't super efficient past about 35Hz and tapered off the high end since I don't need power going to 20KHz+ when my hearing's only good to about 15-16KHz. Nick got me about 95% of the way there, which is impressive, considering the wide breadth of musical tastes his clients must have. I can't recommend the AudioTec Fischer UP8DSP/Morel IR-BMW-42 and IP-BMW-SUB82 enough. It's a cliche' to say "These transformed my car audio" but while I always felt the Focals I previously had were lacking a bit of je ne se quois (midrange and bass), the new setup sounds full at all volumes. I'll be heading back to get a Dash Cam installed later. Don't let the neighborhood scare you or your high-end car off. Nick and his guys treated my car and me well, and additionally, the products they sold me were amazing, on-time, and installed on time - and for that, they deserve the coveted 5-star award that I rarely give out. read more

I went to 4 places south to get an evaluation to upgrade the sound system for my Ferrari 458. Nobody wanted to touch the car. I emailed Nick and he responded and asked me to bring the car. He told me what the car and gave me a quote of whats needed and we set up a date for my installation. I picked up my car and I can't believe I got much more than what I was expecting. Absolutely cleanliness, he kept the car looking stock without modifying the dashboard. Sound system is amazing. Looks so cool. I am so so happy!!!! I highly recommend him and his crew because they were not afraid of getting their hands on this car and that only happens if you really know what you are doing. read more

The backup camera was installed very well with all cables hidden away from sight. I was given a reasonable cost estimate and a drop off time both of which were honored. Nick is amazing! I requested a quote and he was prompt with a response. I upgraded from a stock stereo with all new speakers and added a sub. I scheduled an appointment with time availability and he literally had my car ready when I had already requested a ride to pick up my car. Even if the work wasn't completed I would have scheduled to come back but everything I asked for was already done. I even asked to change some items to better suit my needs and it wasn't an issue at all. I'm planning on adding a dash cam in the near future and won't let anyone else touch my car. The sound is perfect. I previously ran car audio competitions in the 90s but didn't have the time to do the work myself. While I don't need that level at this time, Nick took the time to research not only what I wanted but within my budget. This is the place to go! If anyone has questions about what I listen to, it's house, prog, and techno. I actually had goosebumps when I played my test tracks. I'm a regular in the industry having thrown my own shows and know how to set up sound. This place is amazing, don't even think about going anywhere else in Austin! The Good: :: it's a local business! :: they've got expertise in what they do. Nick was great to work with and gave a very fair quote compared to other similar quality providers in town. he did an assessment of the parts i brought over to ensure that what was needed was there. he walked me through what options there were and there was never any pressure of upselling services, parts, etc :: really good quality work on installation The Bad: :: the customization of the steering wheel controls had a few issues but Nick addressed them each time til it was right. he also forgot to include one of my stock speakers that i had to come back and get. it wasn't a big deal for me to come back a few times because i have a little crush on Nick, so...*shrug* :D The Ugly: :: none Would I go back? Nick and his team did a great job with my Porsche. As most Porsche owners can tell you, we are very concerned about anybody digging into this fine German machine. What did I get done? The Car Audio Shop installed Apple Carplay with front and rear cameras using the OEM head unit. While this may sound routine, it required opening up the OEM head unit and installing a new circuit board. This is something the Porsche dealership would not even do because Porsche does not sell an OEM modification for my car model year. But these guys demonstrated professionalism all the way and I've got a great result. read more

I went here after I was severely overcharged for a head unit installation at another car audio place in Austin. Nick was very helpful with recommending ways to make my system sound better. Installation was quick and affordable. Months later, I had an issue with the audio cutting in and out. They diagnosed it right away and sent me on my way. Fantastic shop! Great service! The hubs has gotten in HAM radio. It has now spread to him wanting one in his truck as well. He bought all of the stuff needed and started to install himself when he realized he needed professional help since drilling through the truck's firewall was needed. He reached out to the HAM Club he's part of and was recommended to check out this shop. It ended up being a great recommendation! Here's the scoop: -We took the truck down to get an estimate on the work needing to be done. The staff was super helpful and explained what needed to be done, approximately how long it would take, and how much it would cost. It took maybe 15 minutes total. Nice fast service! -We set up an appointment for later and paid half of the quoted estimate to hold our spot. Having an appointment is so nice and helps you plan your schedule. This was very appreciated on our part. -When we arrived for the appointment, the truck was taken back right away. The work took about what we were quoted time wise and the price all stayed the same as what was quoted in the beginning. No hidden surprises here! -Masks were enforced for employees and customers. Thanks for believing in science and keeping the shop safe for everyone during a pandemic! This is very much appreciated. Fast forward to today, the radio works great! The work looks clean and sharp. The whole process was easy and painless. The staff knows what they are doing. They do great work. They charge fair prices. Most importantly, they follow through on what is promised and deliver on those promises. i would recommend this shop to anyone needing any type of car audio services. read more

I don't often offer perfect reviews, but Nick deserves it! Great business, great guy. Solid equipment. I reached out to him back in December for a replacement radio for a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. I had no idea what I was looking for or what I needed. I scoured reviews from different companies, and his was the cream of the crop. One negative review from somebody having a bad day. Other than that everyone had great things to say. He asked me a few questions and sent me a quote. Some people would probably raise an eyebrow at how much I sent, but my 13 year old baby needed an internal facelift. Had to wait a bit for everything to come in as some of the parts were on back order. I think that was the most difficult.... waiting. Everything came in early January and he went to work on our truck on the 18th of January, and I could not be more satisfied. This radio looks it came equipped with the truck. Matches perfectly and sounds great! Nick was super smooth to work with. Message him in the morning, after, evening, weekend....he always managed to get back to me in an hour or so. I cannot even put into words how impressed I am with Nick and his team of artist because that is what they are. Nick quoted me for 3 hours and the job took longer, which was no problem at all. Nick charged me for the original quote when he could have added the aditioanl time to the bill. Who does that these days? Just straight up good people. Huge shout out to Nick and his team for making my 4Runner sound like a riding party club! First, the work done was amazing! Doesn't even look like there's a sub back there. Second, best custmer service! Had an issue with the first speaker and called the shop. Nick said "no problem, I'll have a new one ready for you in a couple days." I have a 1993 Mercedes Benz 500E and purchased a third-party keyless entry system for it. I went to 5 different car stereo/alarm places here in Austin and no-one would do it. Finally one of the shops staff quietly recommended Nick at the Car Audio Shop. I reached out, he said yep we can do it! I brought in two of my vehicles to get new audio systems installed and they were able to get each one done in less than 5 hrs. while I waited in their air conditioned lobby getting work done on my laptop. Nick did a great job explaining what they could do based on my specific needs for a Classic 1968 GTO and a "Italian Sports Car". Nick is awesome. He did a great job. I can to him with "our there" ideas on a camper van and he literally "made" them read. He installed a head unit, speakers, TV, remote start, led lights out side and power switching units since I have three batteries. He made it look clean and felt he would have spent the time to get it right if he missed the mark which he did not. He is great and I will be back. Thanks!!!! read more

I had previously went to another store to see if the work I wanted done on my Tundra was possible. After finding out a few unrelated stores couldn't do the work I came across Tint World. I went through the same process of coming by with my truck and explaining what I wanted done to make sure it was possible. I met Nadeem and told him I wanted star lights and ambient lighting throughout. He looked at my truck and assured me it could be done and that it would take "two days." He quoted me $2200 and I agreed that was a fare price and I'd come back after the weekend to leave him the vehicle. I dropped my truck off on Monday morning. I reached out towards the end of the business day for an update and had no response. The following day Tuesday Nadeem told me it may take an extra day and that they were working through some issues. I told him that was fine and to just keep me informed. At the end of Tuesday Nadeem had messaged me and apologized that he didn't realize the material on the moon roof which is about 80% of the headliner space with these panoramic moon roofs wasn't possible to achieve the starlight feature. He said he added them on the perimeter. This was done before asking for approval after he knew what I wanted at the beginning. He told me to rush over that evening because the truck was now complete. I hurried over from Round Rock only to find a numerous amount of concerns. This was far from a "white glove experience." The headliner fabric had obvious tears that needed to be addressed, a number of stars not completely penetrated, the shooting star feature which he sold me on was non existent. He later admitted they installed it incorrectly for that to work. The lights were functional through Bluetooth but the music feature for the lights did not work. The ambient lighting wasn't symmetrical in the front of the vehicle and was cut short and uneven. It was also Bluetooth functioned. When the ambient lighting music feature was used it caused my music to cut in and out on the stereo. Nadeem explained after the fact that both the star light Bluetooth and ambient light Bluetooth would cause music cut out because it can't work simultaneously with musics Bluetooth. Wow. This would have been great to be updated on before installation. I cannot use these features I've now paid for simultaneously with my music. Multiple door pieces and the trim over the odometer were missing stock clips to keep them tight and connected. He had an employee who also works for Toyota "come up" with those pieces to later reattach my vehicle. I explained to Nadeem how this experience felt and he just blankly stared at me with little to no response. He accepted fault and offered me $100 dollars off. At checkout the price went from 2200 to 2500 because he forgot to mention taxes. I told him in the future when quoting a customer he should give them the "out of door" price because taxes on 2200 is game changing. He didn't have anything to say. As I was leaving he offered a window tint. I told him my windows were already tinted and he told me he could match the back windows with the front. I agreed. When I got home I noticed the ambient lighting on the doors doesn't automatically turn off with the car. They stay on in the front and turn off in the back. I called Nadeem and he told me the doors hold reserve power and that I would have to manually turn them off each time when I turn my car off. Nadeem had one of his employees call me to come back in after taking my car back to fix some of the issues. He wasn't there when I arrived to make sure things were fixed. My headliner lights and visor lights were no longer working after the new installation of ambient lights. My music still skipped and wouldn't play from the starlight app, and Nadeem wouldn't respond to my messages. His employee kept saying Nadeem is the only one. He clearly ran away from providing any type of customer care. I was shown text messages that nothing further would be fixed and that I'm no longer welcome for service. Nadeem cuts corners and doesn't take responsibility for his mistakes. I have the texts to prove it. I warn anybody who has any plans to service their vehicle here. At this point with the price I paid I was completely frustrated. He told me he would give me my money back but to never step foot in his store. I felt like this response was completely unnecessary. I don't need my money back I just want the things I paid for to work and meet expectation. I don't usually write reviews but I felt this was necessary. I made the mistake of adding after market features to my tundra with less than 1000 miles. Shame on me. However, as a business it's upsetting to know owners don't go above and beyond to make things right.
