This place is conveniently located and has a free parking lot which is useful. Beyond that it is a store I don't like to go to and will avoid if I possible. It looks run down, it is generally understaffed, and the clientele isn't very desirable to be around. I've had, on multiple occasions, to deal with waiting on a long line because some customer was having an emotional or mental breakdown at the register... this just doesn't seem to happen at other stores on park street or at the Walgreens two blocks away. They have lots of things a CVS normally has, which is to say, a mediocre selection of drug/convenience store items. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. CVS in general is not a great pharmacy, but the service at this location is by far the absolute worst. They will do literally nothing to get your prescription filled other than check your insurance and take your money. They won't call your doctor to request a refill and they won't tell you when a pre-authorization is required, they'll just sit on your prescription with no communication or action whatsoever. They wouldn't even tell me what was included in my insurance formulary for AN INHALER. That's hardly a schedule 1 drug you'd think a pharmacist would know what the generic is for Albuterol. At that point, why even have a staff or a pharmacist, just put in a Pyxis so at least if I'm doing all the work to get my prescription filled anyway, I don't have to put up with the horrible service. read more

It is in my opinion A great pharmacy with a little of everything at first seeing the prices I thought " wow that's crazy " but with a CVS card and the regular marked down on many items , buy one get 1 or 2 free depending on the sale it's more than fair. The care pass for $5.00 is awesome ... I get $10 for $5.00 plus 20% off and free shipping on anything I buy online than I get $1- $3 here and there today I purchased $30 worth of cleaning products but only paid $13 in cash that's a great deal I recommend CVS and the care pass card read more

This CVS in downtown Alameda is one of three locations in the City. It has a large parking lot, so parking is not an issue. It is a good size store, but it is the oldest of the three stores. It has a dated feel to it and it could use some updating. The checkout service is pretty good as they would open up another register when the line gets three to four deep and the clerks are friendly and efficient. read more

The sales can be great, but the service could be much, much better. Granted, some of the cashiers are just fine and plenty nice. However, others can be outright rude and condescending. I feel like I'm being judged sometimes when I use my coupons, too. I also feel like the selection is surely lacking, and hate that they moved all the bars of candy to right in front, instead of having their own isle. Whenever they are on sale, the boxes are always empty. I continue to come here for the sales and the proximity to my home, otherwise I might go to Walgreens more. THE PHARMACY IS 5 OF 5 STARS. The service is prompt (even for walk-ins) and they get you in and out. The staff is very helpful and friendly each and every visit. Went in last week to get hand sanitizers and Lysol sprays. This was way before most people were panicking and buying items in bulk but regardless, all hand sanitizers were out. Only thing they had left was the Lysol sprays which were in the front and listed at a whopping $15~. Other stores like Walmart, for example, sell them at $5.48. I understand CVS marks them up because you're paying for the convenience but almost $15? They clearly did it intentionally to get some money. Doing so it illegal and you can get fined up to $10,000. I wish I took a picture so I can complain to Department of Consumer Affairs and have proof but I didn't, in that moment I was so baffled and walked out. Anyways, don't come here. It's not morally and ethically right to do that. I understand people are desperate but it's not even about the money, it's about the principle that they think it's okay to do something illegal like that. read more

I don't really have a problem with the cashiers - they're okay. My biggest gripe about this CVS is they seldom have the advertised specials (from Sunday newspaper) in stock that I want to buy...no I don't want a raincheck. Time and time again the items on sale are not on the shelves and there is none in the back (stock/inventory room). I don't know wassup with that. The other CVS stores (Marina Village, Downtown Oakland on 20th & Webster and Rockridge on Pleasant Valley & Broadway) always have the advertised specials on their shelves. The aisles are narrow in this store, making it difficult to maneuver around, and I don't know if reconfiguration would even be beneficial. Earlier this week, I needed prilosec for my hubby. There was none, had to call him on my "cellie" and he opted for pepcid (maximum strength). It took me a while to find the pair of slippers that were on sale for $9.99. Once found, guess what? I could not reach them because they had them all the way up on the top shelf, which was about 4-5 feet beyond my outstretched hands. One of the employees had to get a stepladder to bring a pair down to me. If I had the items that I needed, I would have been out of there in about 10 minutes, but milling around for what I needed had me in there for about 1/2 hour...ugh 20 minutes wasted in a store. The only good thing I got out of this place...them Sarah Peyton slippers because my "puppies" were howling in pain every time I walked around in my worn out slippers. Also, I have to put the slippers out of reach of my puppy/dog who has a bad habit of doing a "number" on leather shoes, slippers and socks...chew, chew, chew. read more

I regularly go to CVS and haven't encountered any bad experiences until yesterday. I went to this CVS to purchase cough syrup because I was very sick. I waited in line for checkout. The cashier scans my item and then places the cough syrup near the cash register and proceeds to ask me for ID. I told her that I don't have ID to which she unprofessional and rudely replies, " well that's because you guys choose to abuse it". No customer should ever be stereotyped not talked to in that manner. Stephanie, the cashier said that in order for me to purchase cough syrup I would have to be over the age of 21 because the cough syrup I selected contained acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is Tylenol. There is no law in California pertaining to the purchase of OTC products that contains acetaminophen. California law clearly states that cough syrup containing dextromorphan can't be sold to anyone under 18. read more

The confirmation email told me to show up 5-10 minutes early for my vaccine appointment. I showed up at 2 pm for a 2:15 appointment. The woman told me to come back in 20-25 min., because she was on lunch. 10 min. might be nothing to some folks, but it means everything to me, because I have to run home to relieve my childcare. A parent of young children doesn't have the luxury of waiting around for someone who's decided that parent's time doesn't matter. When I reminded the pharmacist I had a 2:15 appointment, she said, "Well, I'm on lunch." She didn't get back from "lunch" until 2:30. What's the point of making an appointment if you refuse to keep it? She clearly didn't care and was rather annoyed by me for suggesting she keep the appointment. Why in the world did you allow for an appointment to be scheduled during her lunch? Or, why in the world did she decide she had to take her lunch during my appointment? Someone screwed up here, and it's quite infuriating. Some accountability would be nice. read more

Last night at 8:30 I just needed to grab a few basics: a prescription, breath mints, prophylactics, a bottle of JD, some rat poison, a shovel, flashlight, rope, heavy-duty trash bags... You know... just some good things to have around the house. Anyhoo: This Long's is just a few blocks off of the Park Street shopping drag, and the most magical thing about it is: the large, FREE, parking lot. It's not 5 stars because while the store is generally tidy, the layout it kind of awkward in the front area. Not a big deal, really. But we can't just hand out 5 star ratings... like party favors, now, can we? I had to pay for the prescription entirely out of pocket... but that's okay, since the pharmaceutical industry is struggling and definitely needs my hard-earned dollars, right? Pharmacist Mike Leong was behind the counter. He was polite, prompt... and actually cheerful. He even informed me that if I had AAA, I would be eligible for a discount on the medication; I was very impressed with how proactive he was in the service department. I will definitely return to this location, just for the upbeat, professional demeanor that Mike Leong gave me. It really makes a difference when you're used to pharmacy staff who process you like you're a head of cattle, or a barcode... He actually took the time to be considerate and give me additional opportunities to save some cash... which goes a long way with me. Thanks, Mike! read more

i remember this long's as i usually carted home cases of wines/hard liquor whenever the right sale came along. i was here recently for their one hour photo developing. (7.99, 24 exposures). service was fast, courteous, and efficient. this store feels cramped, especially at the entrance. was informed of the strict one hour parking rule. you can get a ticket even if you are waiting for the photos. you have to be in your car to avoid the ticket. for this reason alone, i'm leaving the rating at 3 stars though they deserve more. not surprising given the "lack" of parking in alameda's booming commercial strip on park. of course, there's a parking complex nearby. read more

I have been a fan a Longs drugs forever. As a kid, my mom bought me cough medicine, prescriptions, q-tips, you name it. As an adult I have purchased cough medicine, prescriptions, q-tips, beer and other products. Now they are CVS Drugs and after upteen years they remodeled this store to modernize it. Now I don't where anything is, just kidding. The employees at Longs were known for their green jackets, great customer service and smiles. Hopefully CVS keep up the customer service tradition. What I like about the CVS are the coupons available for great discounts and they have a machine that dispenses them.. For the grand opening I received two coupons that had the discount of $10.00 off when you purchased $20.00 of goods. That is a whopping 50%. CVS has their own generic labled goods and they seem just as good the more expensive counterparts. They also feature a fully staff pharmacy to fulfill those prescriptions. A new kid in town, I think it is a good addition. read more

In my mind, Longs is the OG Alameda drugstore! Growing up and now returning to the West End of the island, Longs has been the go-to way before Walgreens expanded to two Alameda locations. In my experience the staff has always been friendly (so what if one of my friends works there... everyone else is super nice too!). Always chatty and pleasant to deal with. I can always get what I need there and especially love their seasonal aisles and their Diabetes section. I never knew there was so much candy I could eat guilt-free until I discovered this aisle! The biggest draw for me is the location AND their mailing/shipping center. I mail a lot of packages to friends and occasionally stuff sold on Half.com, and their shipping center is a total Godsend since I never have time during the post office's open hours to go in there. And, it's on my way home from work... a quick left turn instead of continuing straight and I'm on my way to Longs. Viva la Longs! read more

However, their employees will absolutely mess up every single transaction. The employees are actually personable, but they do not pay attention and are under-trained to utter incompetence. The place runs like a sand-oiled machine with the fewest cashiers at the busiest times. It's interesting that most of the lower-starred reviews are not comparing this CVS pharmacy to others in the Bay Area. It seems they are comparing it to Nordstrom or something. Writing as someone who transferred to this pharmacy from the one on 41st off Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, due to a move, this pharmacy continuously impresses me with their willingness to go above and beyond. When the doctors don't respond for days with a refill approval, this pharmacy takes care of you. I always get an RX staffer on the phone, and he or she is ALWAYS friendly and helpful. At the register, they do their absolute best. Oh, and tons of free parking compared to the one on 41st where there was rarely any parking at all and then you had to make sure you had a few quarters because you knew there was going to be a wait. Just went here this morning. Was "helped" by a very condescending and rude asian lady at the counter when I went to buy my items. Spoke to me in a very harsh tone that left me a little shocked and shaking afterwards. Just because I wear a shirt that says COVID-1984 doesn't mean you have to treat someone like trash. Being in customer service myself, I have helped people whose appearance I didn't like in particular, but never once have I spoke to them in a harsh and condescending manner. I can tell I wasn't being over reactive as well because I heard her change her tone to a more pleasant one upon "helping" the next guest. This is a snarky introduction to my Yelp! review. I am not associated to the owner, manager or employees. This business is my go-to for everything I need for my own small business, and I'm deeply appreciative. I come here for my cat needs, and the needs of my business. I could easily go to Oakland, to Cash & Carry, but I'm an old school Alamedan who prefers to leave her money on the island. The pharmacy has been great in recommending OTC things for what ever has ailed me. The checkers are great in making sure if there are a few more people in line to pitch in another checker. Neil, the manager, has a great sense of humor. While he was ringing up some cat food he said, "What! Pate for me!" While you're running your errands and doing your stuff, you cannot imagine how a bit of humor alleviates massive stress on your day. Instead of racial-bias training, there should be humor training. After my last review things didn't change much, customer service was still poor, the lines were still long, but the place is still convenient to my house. After today I am refusing to ever shop there again. Here is why. After a special trip to the store to get hand sanitizer the wife discovers they are out on the shelves. So she goes up and asks if that is all of their hand sanitizer or if they have more elsewhere. The guy says we have more in the back, but I don't feel like going to get it for you, just come back later tonight or tomorrow. My wife pushes asking him to go get her some and he says it is in back and he isn't going to go digging around back there for her. This is followed by a departure from the store, a store from which we will never buy anything ever again. Vote with our dollars. The other major poor customer service incident was I want a lottery ticket. Just 1, for imagination purposes. I wait at the customer service counter for 10 minutes. No one comes, but the checker for CS is busy at an adjacent terminal. I get in line. It takes her 15 more minutes to get through the 2 customers in front of me, neither was purchasing much or doing much. I walk up and ask for 1 lotto ticket. She gets nasty and says I am in the wrong line and I have to go wait at customer service. (the machine is literally 2 ft from her right now). I told her I did wait there for 10 minutes and there is another guy standing there that has been waiting 10 but they haven't been servicing us. She responds snidely, just don't get in line again if you want a lottery ticket - for your information. I responded with a rude for your information myself about customer service. There are numerous other problems with this store, in fact they should fire everyone and start over from scratch, with the economy I am certain they can do better than this group of good for nothings. One day I was second in line, one person in front of me. The other line also had 1 person. It literally took 18 minutes before either one of the checkers finished with their 1 customer. Y'all are trippin'. This CVS has the nicest employees, ever. They will greet you happily as you come through the door, no matter how grumpy you seem. They will happily and willingly help you with your drug store needs. Yeah, the lines can sometimes get really long, but they can't have 5 employees twiddling their fingers at the register the majority of the day in anticipation of the random rush. A large amount of the reviews here are really interesting, mainly because they are leaving a review for the wrong thing. This page is for CVS PHARMACY, i.e. the pharmacy in the store, not of the store itself. I empathize (believe me, read my own review on CVS), but people are putting their reviews in the wrong area where people it would actually help cannot or would not read them. Now in regard to the pharmacy, it's been great! This is truly one of the best part of the store that unfortunately not everyone experiences. Every time I have a prescription to fill, it gets filled in no time. I've only done it twice, but the first time it was 15 minutes, and the second around 45 (because the main pharmacist went to lunch, was going to lunch or something, it was a confusing conversatioin with that girl). The first time I dropped off my prescription I did not know my Dad's account number or whatever, but she remembered my Dad (Lol he is memberable), and that was super cool to me, and she helped me out to where it wasn't a big deal. And I've never had issues picking up my Dad's medication (which I always thought was interesting). A++ for the pharmacy -- THE PHARMACY ONLY. read more

The pharmacist was rude when I told her I had all my prescriptions on auto refill, I went down there because the phone refill wasn't working for the 2nd time. The lackey that waits on the customers with red hair hung up on me, then was rude as hell today when I went back to pick up my prescription which wasn't even ready after 24 hours, I still had to wait for it. I gave this CVS a 2 star rating because the employee's are sooooo SLOW. I have learned that patience is a virtue and when I come to this CVS it takes the cashier EXTRA long to do ANYTHING. Coupon? This place is godawful. The clerks that work here are incredibly rude, the way I have seen them treat and talk to customers (many of them senior citizens) is appalling. The funny part is, the older the clerk, the more rude they seem to be, the younger ones are a little bit better. Since this place is right by my house, I do end going there every so often when I'm in a bind and don't feel like getting in the car, and every time I spend money here, I regret it. Usually, the line is long, and one register is open, while the extra clerks hang out in the customer service area, stocking goods, or taking a break. Literally, every single time I walk in the clerk working the register is trying to shut it down with their little "Next Register Please" sign, it is ridiculous. Once during a transaction for $25+, I tried to get a $10 roll of quarters for laundry, and the clerk being too lazy to get it remarked "we don't sell quarters," so I just walked out and left the items I planned to purchase. Another time, the floor near the drinks was so unbelievably dirty that myself and another shopper started to joke about it, and one of the employees stocking the liquor isle said that "It can get dirty on the weekend with the extra traffic."
