Wow, time for an update. Quality/Quantity - I buy all my beef from Nob Hill (Raley's) because they just seem to have the best quality beef. From both the Alameda and South Reno locations. Just got some tri tip yesterday. :) Atmosphere - Nice local Nob Hill. Clean and organized. They even have Peets in here. Deli, Bakery, Sizzling Wok, Taco, Meat/Seafood, Floral, Cafe, etc. Plenty of mall parking. They also have a gas station and a car wash at this location. Open 7 days a week from 6am to 10pm. Service - Good, the team is almost always happy and friendly. But no employees today, even the self service line was 20 deep; see pictures. Price - Above average, but worth it for what I buy. Owner Comment - Congrats to Raley's success since 1935 with your 119+ locations, and more importantly, still keeping the company within the family. Wow, 10 less stores since my first review... I've been getting sandwiches from the Nob Hill Foods deli for years and honestly can't believe I never wrote a review sooner. This is one of those quietly solid, dependable spots that always delivers. They have about 6-8 specialty sandwiches listed above the deli counter, all with different names and combinations. This time, I went with a turkey sandwich on wheat, with cheese, pickles, and all the usual toppings. The sandwich was fresh, flavorful, and made right--never old, never dry, always consistent. One of the things I really like is that you're not locked into the default bread. For example, the Santa Cruz sandwich normally comes on a French roll, but I switched it to wheat with no problem at all. The Santa Cruz is one of my favorites--tasty, well-balanced, and filling. I've also tried another specialty sandwich before (can't remember the name), and it was just as good. The turkey is always fresh, the portions are solid, and the staff behind the deli counter is friendly and helpful. They always ask if you want to add anything extra, which I appreciate. You can customize it exactly how you like. This deli gets busy for a reason--a lot of people come here for lunch and dinner, especially when doing their grocery shopping. Chicken Cordon Bleu. This item is sold as a 2 pack. The appearance is very nice but it was a feeble attempt at a dish that should not have a piece of chicken breast so thick it makes it bland then add some ham in the center, more dry. Then don't put the right amount of cheese as a filler to bring the flavors together. This was so dry and bland and it was not the ingredients it was how it was put together. Cut the thickness of the chicken breast, add more cheese so melted will compliment the dish. read more

A friend buys his prime rib from Nob Hill and loves the USDA Choice Harris Ranch sourced beef that they sell. I normally get my prime rib from a warehouse club, but for a recent party, I decided to get a prime rib from Nob Hill and give it a try. I bought a 22.88 lb full rack that was in cryovac packaging. The roast was slow cooked medium rare and the test was to see how tender it would be. With the prime rib served, it was so tender and juicy and my guests agreed as well. It was my first purchase of a Harris Ranch prime rib from Nob Hill and it exceeded my expectations. I'll highly consider getting another prime rib for this year's holiday season. read more

Was so polite while making it. He told us about the different ones. This was so dope of him!!!! We were looking at the wine just having fine. A manager walked up letting us know. I'm not sure what is up with the employees here, but there is an old lady at self check out that is super rude and racist. I was purchasing a gift card and I wasn't aware that it couldn't be purchased at self checkout as other retailers allow for it. Instead of the lady kindly telling me that I couldn't purchase it there, she kept on banging on the sign above the register that says "no gift card purchase." She did not mutter one word to me and treated me like a dumb girl that didn't speak English. There is really no need for that type of microaggression nor does anyone deserve that type of treatment. If she hates her job and people that much, she shouldn't be there in CUSTOMER SERVICE. Moreover, when I went to purchase the gift card at the register, the cashier asks for my ID and credit card to ensure that it was really me. I'm puzzled as why he felt the need to do that as I have never been asked to do that anywhere. To add insult to injury, there were people ahead of me making big purchases that did not have to show their ID and credit card. Maybe he thought that I couldn't afford the purchase, because I was non white or that I was doing a fraudulent purchase. But I have never felt more marginalized and discriminated against. I really don't like to make claims of racism, but I have never been anywhere that treated me like this. I definitely won't be back here as I'm obviously not welcomed. read more

As supermarkets go, this one is my favorite shopping experience. While the prices are not the lowest, the level of service provided is much higher than any other supermarket chain -- by a lot. It is as if they actually TRAIN their people to be customer-oriented -- how refreshing! Even anyone stocking shelves will assist you in finding an item, going out of their way to do so. This grocery store is pretty good. First, the bakery does cakes that are better than average. Like, if you order a cake here, people at your kid's birthday party will ask where you got it because they want to get it for their kid's party. The bakery staff aren't usually that nice though, so ordering isn't a pleasant experience. They seem to expect that you know their cake ordering process without explaining it to you, and they have this binder of cake decor to pick from that is mostly kids character cakes. You can't really get a custom cake, you have to pick something from the binder, but that makes sense, it's not a cake shop. I just wish they were as nice as their cakes are yummy. This is the only place around (that I know of) that has a salad bar. There is a salad bar and hot foods bar. It doesn't compare with like a Whole Foods bar, but it is pretty good. They also have some grab-n-go sandwiches and such, so you can easily put together a nice lunch for yourself here. The grocery store itself is fine, but the organic produce is bad and also hard to find. There a section labeled organic, but then you can't find some things, and I think it might be scattered around. It doesn't tend to be fresh. The conventional produce seems ok. Checkout seems smooth. read more

Handwriting is sloppy, my 10 year old could have pooped out something nicer 2. 66nd? lol...Even if it's 66, shouldn't it be 66th? 3. He freaking turned 65, not 66! Sorry, but the woman who did this has no business taking cake orders in the bakery. Oh! And, she gave our original cake away that had the correct # on it, and tried to give my mom a birthday cake for a woman named Karen. I like coming here. This grocery store has much to offer. I feel like the prices are a bit higher but it's a nice store. I do like the hot bar. It's really clean and is pretty close proximity to where I stay. Even the security guard greets you with a warm smile. However, the last few times I went there, the cashiers were kinda rude. I'm not asking anyone to ask how I'm doing or start up a conversation. This last time I had a return and she acted like I was asking for the world while she was sick in bed and I was making her get out of bed or something. Staff is well intentioned and the store is kept well but as a regular customer for 10+ years, they have vey clearly cut staffing and checkout lines are often CRAZY. It seems they regularly are down to 2 checkers, and are slow to call in backup help so all it takes is a couple of large carts to create 15+ minute waits to check out (and the self checkout is also often impacted). Management - You are driving away longtime customers with your penny pinching staffing approach. read more

I enjoy the wide aisles, the cleanliness, the kind staff and the products they carry. Fresh produce is always the freshest than any other store. I've been shopping here for 10+ years, and it used to be such a nice experience every time I went. The last three times the service has been terrible - whomever the night manager is has made the experience and ambiance unpleasant and stressful! A few weeks ago it was 10:30 pm, 30 minutes before closing, and she completely lost her temper and started swearing (f-bombs, a**hole, and on) for over five minutes because this customer wanted plastic bags instead of paper. And she wouldn't stop swearing even after he submitted and went silent. She had a line five people deep and self checkout was busy too! Second time I went and she accosted me personally in a aisle and yelled at me that they were closed. It was ten minutes before closing. There was an issue with a couple items I was checking out and she just left me at the register, waiting for almost ten minutes, looking directly at me as she walked on by to do whatever else she was doing. That experienced ended with her slamming the sliding doors behind me. The third time her and the security guard for some reason were thinking I was stealing alcohol, asked me where I put it (!) and then proceeded to watch me check out and follow me out the door. First of all, I do not buy my wine there, not when Trader J's is SO much cheaper. It felt uncomfortable and she stared at me with outright contempt. Why would continue to shop here? Nob Hill please do better. Either get her some professional training or hire someone else. read more

I can't get jiggy with this supermarket - its beautiful inside but the bakery and fruit selection are lackluster... skip the groceries but come for the coffee shop. This a very good looking grocery store.... Both inside and out: Floors are sparkling clean, the shelves are perfectly organized. Its on the waterfront and at first glance it looks like Whole Foods - but this place is far from it... Came in yesterday - looked at the cherries... lots of them were split and I saw some fruit flies swarming.... Its such a bad cherry season - I could look the other way on this one... Next thing I picked up a box of blueberries and flipped it over only to see one fuzzy white moldy spot. After this I navigated the premises with caution. At the bakery I've tried many things over the years but I've never found anything that I would buy a second time. Desserts are beautiful though. One of the biggest highlights at this place is the coffee shop that is inside that overlooks the small boats... Its a very peaceful place to hang for a bit. read more
