CVS on 21st Ave has everything you'd expect from a well-stocked pharmacy. From the basic necessities, toiletries, and over-the-counter meds were all readily available. They used to have a small health clinic inside, but it's no longer in operation. The bathroom is located toward the back, which is convenient if you know where to look. The cashier on duty wasn't particularly warm, but with another employee available to help with general questions, it balanced out the experience. Parking is plentiful, but the store can be a bit tricky to access depending on the direction you're coming from or heading out to. Overall, it gets the job done, but not the most welcoming vibe. This is one of the most unorganized pharmacies. I have ever done business with they give you wrong information about your prescriptions. They have multiple profiles that they don't check and just give you an answer. That is incorrect. They leave messages for you that are incomplete and incorrect I hate this Pharmacy with a passion. Their lines are always long. They will close the window for you even though you've been sitting there for a long time before their lunch break. They don't care they will shut the window in front of your face this is a horrible place. I am going to be finding a new Pharmacy. Very disappointing. My parents needed a Covid test for their cruise, so I booked them here. First of all, it was annoying that I couldn't book them both at the same time. They're senior citizens, and not great at computers, so I had to make their appointments and you can't just make two appointments at the same time. I made the appointments a few days before because, obviously, you don't want to risk not having results before a cruise. Then, the night before their test, I got a message saying the tests were canceled because the CVS was closed due to a weather emergency! What? Too much beautiful August weather? I called the store and worked through their crazy phone-tree system for a long time, finally getting a human who said, no, they weren't closed, and no, she didn't know why I got that message, but they don't "do the tests" and if I have a question I should call Quest Diagnostic. Ok, can you give me that number? "I don't know, you can google it?" I went through the appointment system again and made new appointments for my parents (this time their appointments were 4 hours apart but we decided to just show up for the earlier time and hope for the best.) Luckily, they didn't get canceled so the non-existent weather issue must have cleared up somehow. Anyway, we got to the store and it was completely empty inside. Like, is anyone working here? I have no idea. My parents have to check in on a computer kiosk. Again, they're old, so I end up doing that too. Then they sit around. We literally don't see any staff in the store. After a while, we see a pharmacist in the back, then a care provider comes out of one of the little offices. It was just so weird. I guess I'll ask the obvious question, but don't they have a theft problem not having any staff in the retail areas of the store? Is the staff just hiding? Because they are certainly not cleaning. I was going to sit with my parents and wait for their test but the waiting area was filthy, and I didn't know how long the wait would be, so I went to the Safeway across the street to save some time and get some groceries. It was a good thing I saved time by multi-tasking because nearly 90 minutes later, my parents had their "15-minute" test results printed and were ready to go on their cruise. this is the worst CVS pharmacy ever horrible horrible horrible horrible just to pick up my medication through the drive-through and sometimes take me 30 minutes to 45 minutes to get a medication which I should not be sitting in a drive-through for 30 to 45 minutes to pick up medication this is ridiculous. They need a staff better or if they're understaffed shut down the drive-through because sitting in a drive-through for 30 to 45 minutes to pick up a medication is nuts. Do not recommend the CVS whatsoever do not get your prescription sent here go somewhere else I know for a fact I think I'm going to be pulling all of my prescriptions and going to Fred Meyer across the street. I was frantically seeking to fill a prescription for my daughter-in-law, who'd been suffering for a week and was anxious to begin this round of antibiotics. Walgreens on Hoyt Rd. in Tacoma had told my deployed son they had these meds (he'd called from the USS Lincoln to check availability for his foreign-born wife). I showed up to find they didn't have it, so I shared my frustration with them and took off for the nearest competitor. The kind pharmacist at CVS in 21st (Store ID #10659) didn't have the meds she needed, but took the time to check his system and found I could get it at the Renton CVS. They have signs in front saying that walk-ins are welcome for the Covid vaccine. On 11/30 I attempted to get a vaccine and was told they only do Covid shots as appointments; annoying but no problem. I specifically told the employee that I worked, but could come 12/7 as I had that day off. I was texted a confirmation link that didn't tell me anything about my appointment. Today, I called them to say I would be late to the appointment as I was taking my grandmother to her physical therapy. They did not confirm my identity, but told me this was okay and I could still get the shot. When checking in for the appointment, I was told they did not see my appointment. 3 employees hanging around the consultation window repeatedly told me I must have scheduled with the "minute clinic" (same store, different window, different group). I had to tell all three of them several times that I scheduled at this exact consultation window. Finally, one of them looked into my account and found out my original appointment was mistakenly scheduled for 12/1; I was scheduled to work this day and definitely did NOT ask for my shot this day... And OF COURSE they didn't have any Covid shots available. I had to tell them I knew this as this was the EXACT reason I made the appointment in the first place! I will be moving my business to optumRX as they provide free delivery of medications with my insurance. I just haven't until now because I was already established with this CVS. Will never work with CVS (especially this branch) again. read more

Went with my boyfriend to get Covid tests for work and had the best experience with Annie and Kira. They were very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I can't emphasize enough how amazing these ladies are. This is a challenging review. I absolutely adore the care that the staff provide, they provide five star care. However, from a corporate standpoint, the staffing is of concern. There desperately need more staff. If I want to utilize this pharmacy I need to allocate more than 90 minutes and possibly two trips. Again, the staff are great, they just need more staff! So at this point, I would not recommend getting a travel COVID swab here. They're still working on figuring out an efficient flow. I arrived on time for my scheduled appointment, it has been one hour and literally only one car has gone successfully completed their test - 4 more cars to go. The math is not looking good on this. Of the local stand-alone pharmacies (Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS), this hands down my favorite. The staff are always friendly, the store is bright and well-stocked, and it looks nice inside. The pharmacy team is why they have 4 stars instead of 5. While most of them are amazing (nice, always say hello, remember you), there is a new guy who doesn't seem to quite know what he's doing. He's slow, talks down to some of the other techs, and has made mistakes on orders. I love that they have an app as well. You can order pictures, refill prescriptions, have a digital rewards card, and even pay for your purchases. They definitely will keep my business. read more

Absolute joke. I called last week and waited on hold for the pharmacy (during non lunch break hours) for FORTY EIGHT MINUTES and they never picked up. I called again an hour later and was on hold for THIRTY NINE MINUTE and no one ever picked up. I called again yesterday at 1250 (their lunch break starts at 130) and I was left on hold from 1250, until 133 when the call just disconnected on it's own (because they go to lunch at 130). Nice tactic...anyone who calls even an hour before they go to lunch, gets to sit and wait on hold until 130 and then they hang up on you so they can eat. This location is the WORST. read more

My mother is 72 and every time her order is placed its never ready she is stuck in line with 4 people ahead of her and they still can't just fill a bottle and print a sticker and give her her meds. This location need to hire people with a sense of ergency. Went to CVS pharmacy to pick up medication and had to pick up a different order of medication the same day later and i was told the medication I needed would be done the day of, but then I was told by a pharmacist tech, that it would be ready the next day even though I was suppose to pick it up that day. I came back the next day a bit later after the designated time they told me to come pick it up and they still didn't have it ready. Overall I can say it's a hit or miss sometimes with the medications in the pharmacy when medication are ready. But they kept trying to hold the medication by saying "it will be ready tomorrow we don't have it right now.", but then I complained through the window telling them that this medication is for an elderly person and they've been waiting and really needed it, and then all of a sudden the pharmacy tech said "sorry we will get on it right now". Honestly they need to prioritize and be accurate to the customers who come by the pharmacy especially for those who are picking up prescriptions instead of saying "they don't have it" when they really have it. read more

My company changed our pharmacy after years at Walgreens. 15 years at Walgreens, with very few issues, and very professional personnel. This CVS is the absolute worst! I have never gone to pick up my prescriptions at any hour without a 45 minute to one hour wait. I gave up on the drive thru long ago...the waits were even longer! When I finally get to the front of the line, my prescription has not been filled about half of the time...so maddening! They then tell me that I should come back in a half hour or so which makes my blood boil. Walgreens would contact me when I was due for a refill, but not CVS. You call them and pray someone answers, but that is another exercise in futility. Someone needs to do some serious restructuring of all aspects of this pharmacy. read more

The store itself is great! The pharmacy staff, not so much. Barbara will be the death of the pharmacy and bring it down to the pre-Roman era with her consistent obnoxious rude attitude. She treats customers like they are children and she has the people skills of an amoeba. I am not sure why she still has a job at this location as she is unable to multitask or be remotely pleasant. Being frustrated and refusing to even let Barbara ring up my order, I called to speak to the manager of the pharmacy, Monica. Monica told me that Barbara is in training; she is getting coached. I told her that the training Barbara is getting, well, it isn't working. I suggested I call corporate and Monica assured me she has final say on Barbara, not corporate. We won't wait long before switching to Fred Meyer's. No one is worthy of the hassle's we've had in just trying to pick up medication. read more

Went in for flu shot and was told I needed to make an appointment. So I grabbed my phone and made an appointment for 10 minutes later. Came back at the 10 min mark, was told my insurance does not cover this cost which I know is incorrect. I called Cigna who confirmed 100% coverage. They called the pharmacist directly and he stated there was nothing he could do!? WTH? They were very busy and probably spent more time trying to figure out how not to serve me. Very impressed with this place! It is super streamlined, automated & efficient. I have my prescriptions here, and pickup by the drive through. They have the greatest system - you place the refill order online, they contact the physician for you, and they text you when it's ready. You can tell they are really focused on getting people through the drive through window with minimal wait (unlike the nearby Walgreens where it seems like they enjoy going as slow as humanly possible) When my insurance expired, I got a text link to update my insurance card by taking a photo with my phone. They texted back a confirmation that it was updated. Super fast & easy. I went to pickup my prescription at 6pm, thinking there would be a long line, but there was only 1 car in front of me and they are so quick and efficient that I was back on the road in just a few minutes. read more

I love this pharmacy the first two years it was open. Then staffing changes and staffing shortages have made this place horrible! The staff can't properly look up prescriptions and are very slow to fill monthly supply's. Waits are long! And they never answer the phone! Came to Rite~Aid this morning to get some "drops"/ medicine for my persistently plugged ear, after initially going to "CVS" caddy corner at 8am & waited 15~20 minutes and they never did open, ughhh!!(WTF?!?! ~ but I hesitate to rate them a "1~Star" here, as the boss may have had an emergency, something suddenly happened, they were "being robbed", etc.(???)~who knows.... So, going for the middle with a "3~Star)).... So, went over to this Rite~Aid & the cashier(cool older lady) and even the pharmacist were MOST HELPFUL in getting me what I needed & on my way! A year ago I switched to CVS for my Medicare Part D prescription service thinking I could save a few bucks. Unfortunately any money I saved has been offset by my frustration trying to deal with them. For example, I received a text 6 days ago asking if I wanted to refill a prescription in 3 or 4 days. I responded yes. Now 6 days later when I stopped to pick it up they say they're working on it. Hmmmm. In another example, The last time I was in to pick up a prescription, the phone system kept announcing there were 8 people on hold. It appeared that one was available to answer any of the calls. And a third example, they send what are apparently nonsensical txts, using acronyms with no definitions. And the list goes on. I do not recommend CVS. read more

Now I used to go to CVS like once per month, twice if there are good deals to coupon. When I was checking out last Wednesday, their Asian manager had the nerve to do his 20 questions on me. Asking me where I get my coupons, what I do with the stuff I'm buying and to tell me loudly where there are customers around that it was illegal to resell these. Ok. I have a family that I provide what I coupon, I was not able to answer back to him because I was so embarrassed and humiliated. I didn't understand the need he had to question me in the first place? I went in just to check the store out and I was very impressed. The store was clean and organized. The reason for the 4 stars is the location. It's easy to get in to the parking lot but a little difficult pulling out of the parking lot onto the street. Maybe there is another way to get out of the parking lot that is easier?. That intersection is busy at all times of the day. I like the idea of a drive in window for sure. I am thinking of changing where I get my prescriptions to this location. read more

This just opened up by my moms house and I decided to stop by after visiting her today because Walgreens did not have a make up item that I was looking for yesterday - they said they no longer carry it. Wow not only does this CVS pharmacy have a bigger selection of everything Walgreens carries but they have a lot of additional cosmetics brands as well such as NYX. The cashier was super friendly and told me about the no fuss return policy as long as you have the receipt because I purchased a couple of brand-new items I hadn't seen before and was curious as to the return policy. The prices seem to be a little higher than Walgreens, truth be told however if you sign up for their rewards card you can get a lot of that money back by purchasing multiple items of the same brand and such. I love the selection so I'll definitely be back! read more

I visited this pharmacy to pick up a home testing kit. I didn't see it on the shelves, so I went to the pharmacy counter and was greeted by an older Caucasian woman who was not helpful at all. She told me that the kit I wanted was by prescription only. I advised her that it is not, and that their online site says it is in stock. After talking with the Pharmacist, who re-directed be back to the isles, I finally found it. My career is consulting organizations on improving leadership gaps and building social capital. Guess what Federal Way CVS? You phenomenally failed today, and by perusing your Yelp reviews, this isn't the first time. Here is some free advice, remove this unsavory employee from a customer service position as soon as possible. Secondly, if a customer is looking for an item, and it is not too busy, walk with the customer and help them find it.
