This CVS is a life saver.. open late when you need anything from Milk, alcohol, or medicine.. Great location in La Jolla and very easy to get in and out of. There are many valid reasons for all the one and two star ratings for this pharmacy. It is truly a circus environment, and the employees behind the counter are totally stressed out. The wait times for each of the windows are brutal. And, the kicker is..... You'll pay significantly more than just across the street at Ralphs pharmacy - which in my experience, has none of the problems plaguing the CVS pharmacy. BTW, although the comments re the rest of this CVS store are also valid, I deal with it my keeping my visits to said store to a minimum. read more

This review is for the PHOTO Department. Ordered Christmas photo cards on December 14, then after ordering it tells you 5-7 days. ok small hiccup but I could deal with it. Then those days passed by and multiple trips to store says still not here. Finally phone call for pickup comes on December 27 3:15pm. pick up next day and talked to store manager who seems to not care it's after Christmas and tardiness is not his problem. Apparently does not care. This customer wont be going back for photos at any CVS at anytime. They had a chance to apologize and took the wrong route. I give the store 4 stars because it's decent. EXTREMELY overpriced, so only go here if it's convenient. The pharmacy though gets 2 stars. It's not the employees necessarily. I think 75% of it is the customers. None of the pharmacy customers seem to know how to pick up a prescription. They are all clueless and need hand holding the whole way through, and there are a ton of pharmacy customers at the CVS. Plan to wait in line behind idiots. But 25% of the problem is the pharmacy itself. CVS has streamlined their business here, and you'll likely talk to pharmacy techs unless you request to talk to the overworked pharmacist in the back. The techs are clearly overworked and also have to hand hold the ridonkulous customers who seem to want to cut the line and check out 40 things. I also disliked the Robo calls and the prescription refill system. No one seemed to be screening this. One time I transferred a prescription when I found out Target didn't take my insurance, and they refilled it right away even though I didn't need it until the next refill (I just paid full price at Target to save time once). In the end this was not a huge deal, but everything seems to be automated without good pharmacist input or contacting the customer. I will be using Vons pharmacy from now on. read more

I'm not one to normally write reviews but over the past 9 months of using this CVS to pick up prescriptions they have lost two of my prescriptions and I had to call my doctor to have them replaced. They are inefficient and have very long waits to pick up any medication. Thank god nothing I am taking is life threatening but if it was then filling my prescriptions here would be a hard pass. Tonight I went in for 3 medications and was only able to have 2 actually filled. When I tried to up date my insurance information for these medications, they told me that they couldn't take it even though I had used this insurance at another location, a Walgreens, and an ER without any problems. I even called the insurance company to confirm that I can use it for prescriptions but this location still refused. Lesson learned, I am never coming back here again! read more

This is the WORST of the CVS Pharmacies. It's staffed entirely by UCSD Pharmacy students under 25yrs old. They never stay long enough to know who you are and treat you like a drug addict if you're under 30 and have any Controlled Substance prescribed to you. They question everything, no matter how legitimate. If you're prescribed any CII, they stare you up and down, ask you questions about why you're getting it, who prescribed it, how long have you taken it, why have you filled that same Rx at other CVS stores. Why are you paying out of pocket. Why are you filling it 3 days early. Today I was actually accused of forging my prescriptions--despite the fact they're all on my file. They said they wouldn't fill them even if the Doctor called to confirm. They were rude. And insulting. I'm fully aware that pharmacies have the right to refuse to fill Rxs. But they wouldn't fill a single medication. I went to the CVS near my home; I was immediately greeted by name. My Rxs were filled without any questions in 1 hour. Forget this store. read more

I had to stop by CVS on the way to work to pick up a prescription refill on my way to work. Although a message on the pharmacy computer said my insurance company would not pay for the prescription refill for two more days, the pharmacy manager, Dr. Zach Liebman, was able to find a way to fill my prescription. He even politely put up with my cranky rant about insurance companies. This CVS location has always provided me fast, convenient service for my family. Highly recommended! read more

This CVS location is located in a busy shopping center in the UTC area. Some of the businesses nearby are Peet's Coffee, Whole Foods, Friday's, Elijah's, BJ's, a movie theater, and a Verizon Wireless store. Needless to say, if you have a need to go to this CVS during the day or early afternoon, you may have a difficult time finding parking. Good luck finding parking during the holiday season (this isn't CVS's fault). Aside from that, this CVS has everything that you could possibly want. They have a pharmacy which I have gotten a few "one time" prescriptions from and they fill your prescription in a pretty quick amount of time (took 20 minutes). I like shopping there because they have most of what I need and I don't have to fight the crowds at the Ralph's across the street for small items (even though they are a little more expensive for some things). It's a small price to pay for convenience. The lines tend to get long at night but the cashiers get you in and out pretty quick. As long as I live in the UTC area, I will continue to shop at this CVS store! read more

I've been going to this pharmacy for about 7 months and have never had a good experience. THEY'RE SO SLOW. I always have to wait in line for at least 10 minutes. I recently took a prescription to drop off and after 30 minutes of waiting I went to go check the status and they said they forgot to fill it... Another time I took a prescription to drop off and they said it'd be ready for pick up in an hour... I highly recommend avoiding this pharmacy. read more

came here to load up on some basic essentials as we had set up "base camp" at Scripps Memorial close by. it'd be nice if more of the sodas, waters, and other drinks were refrigerated. for a CVS located in the middle of a prominent La Jolla shopping center you'd think that there'd be more people working there, especially around the 8pm'ish time that we got there. there was a bit of a line and only one employee to be found who was behind the counter, poor lady. -civilities. read more

I usually only go to CVS to get my monthly prescription at the pharmacy. I love that they call me and text me as a reminder when my prescription is ready for pick up. I don't even have to think about it. The techs seem like they are always super busy, but that's probably because everyone I know goes to cvs for their prescription needs as well. read more

Horrible service in the pharmacy! Should have known when we walked in as we overheard the pharmacist complain about how many times she'd been yelled at that night. I came in to have a prescription mouthwash filled at 9pm... the pharmacy tech proceeded to take it off the shelf, go ask the pharmacist if it was the right one... when the pharmacist said it was, the tech brought it back to the counter, set it next to the register, and proceeded to tell me it would take 2 hours to fill. Despite the fill time being unacceptable, who on EARTH thinks dangling a prescription in front of a customer and then telling them they can't have it for 2 hours is acceptable? The two techs and pharmacist then spent 10 minutes arguing with me about it. I walked out, I'll wait until tomorrow and have my regular pharmacy request a transfer. Not my problem CVS can't staff in accordance to demand. Looking back, I'm not surprised the pharmacist gets yelled at a lot. The customer service was worse than the wait time. read more

Merchandise is fine. I don't know why they lost their liquor license. But I can't stand the way they manage the lines. You can't see where you are supposed to line up. Someone (sometimes me, sometimes another person) always seems to try to wait in a more logical place which puts them in the position of line jumping whether they mean it or not. It's frustrating. Sometimes the next cashier speaks to you, sometimes you are supposed to figure it out for yourself. I wish they would have clear visible signs, and help people more. read more

So let's be honest here everyone. This location is phenomenal. I visit this store at least 4-5 times a week. I work close so I've purchased everything from a snack to a quick birthday present pickup. It's clean, well organized and the staff is super friendly. There is always someone greeting at the door offering to help you in your search but if you're anything like me you have no clue what you're looking for either. But regardless the offer is always appreciated. Today I bought 5 to-go coffee for 3 dollars. They were 90% off! I mean who doesn't love a great deal? I do have to applaud one particular staff member, Dina. She is always smiling and helpful and I've never seen her stand still. A very hard worker and it's always a pleasure to see her. CVS is my lifesaver! I live walking distance to this CVS and I go there for everything and anything. I normally go to CVS in the middle of the night to buy something random, and there are always attendants ready to help me out. The lines can get long sometimes, however the manager always calls on more cashiers if the line starts to get too long. read more

Love this place and the staff. The 2 previous 1 star reviews are from the types of customers I see in there regularly and who make life difficult for the rest of us. I've had to wait for proscriptions as well, but it's a very busy pharmacy. Regularly, customers are demanding that the staff call the insurance or doctor to find out why the prescription was not approved. That's the patients job!! It seems like almost every customer needs to have a 5 minute discussion/ argument with the staff. Any problem I have had while there was due to my doctor dropping the ball or insurance not getting back in a timely matter. Parking can often suck, but I know that's not the fault if CVS. Worst CVS pharmacy I have ever been to. The pharmacists and technicians do not care about the patients at all. They forget to have your proscription filled and when you go to pick it up you have to wait in line another 30 minutes because they are so slow. They lose your proscriptions and then say they never received it. If you don't absolutely have to go here don't because you will receive the worst service ever. read more

This review is about their photo service. Already not expecting great prints from a drugstore, I picked up my prints in store only to see a strip of white/fading colors and scratches on the edge of the photos (in addition to extremely dull colors in general). I notified an employee about this issue, and instead of taking a look at the prints, the employee said that was just how the paper was, they were doing large print jobs at the moment, the ink wasn't running out, and I could send in the print job again if I wanted to. LOL. ok. Obviously not printing photos at this cvs ever again. Go for shutterfly for better quality prints. read more

What a convinient place to do a lot of your quick shopping needs. freindly staff. Easy parking. Some light grocerries, beauty needs, medicene, greeting cards, baby/toy needs...I go there quite often. I make my rounds to the pet shop, sprinkles, whole foods, avida...that are right next door. I feel accomplished when I am done with this little shopping center. By the way the post office in the back is always handy to stop by for your postal needs. read more

My first time using CVS Pharmacy. Inefficient so-so customer service. I used the pharmacy while on vacation. My doctor called in the prescription in advance. I went to the pick-up line to pick-up and was sent to the drop off window to verify insurance/billing. After verification I was told to wait till my name was called. I waited and when my name was called I had to wait in the pick-up line all over again to get the prescription that was ready. I can't believe this is their busiest pharmacy and only 24 hr pharmacy in the area...CVS this does not mean you get to bully customers! No other pharmacy I have been to is quite so inefficient. Shuttling customers to different windows and making them wait double time creates a negative customer experience. When talking to the Assistant Manager he agreed with me but this is how Corporate wants it. Phooey on Corporate Executives who don't care about customer experience. I won't be going to CVS again if I can help it and I suggest you switch to a different pharmacy as well if you want good service. read more

Recently transferred my prescription to this CVS from my hometown Rite Aid because it's close to my school. The pharmacists are alright but it takes forever to be tended to. I once waited ten minutes at the drop off while the guy talked on the phone about another client while the three other employees behind the counter did nothing. I went to this pharmacy to get a prescription filled and I had a couple questions. The first man was nice and tried to help me out. He referred me to another pharmacy employee so he could continue with the line behind me(totally fine). So I went over to the other guy, whose name starts with a K and rhymes with Devin, who was completely disrespectful. I work with people all the time and I get some days are bad and some customers are difficult but I had some very basic questions and was being... just completely normal trying to understand this medication, but he was quite perfectly worded, a dick. I have NEVER felt SO uncomfortable by an employee and will NEVER return to this CVS again. read more

This is the second time I've been in this CVS. The first time was to fill a prescription and I don't remember having a bad experience other than having to wait a bit and because I was in a lot of pain, the wait seemed a lot longer than it probably was. This time, though, I went in looking for Rit black fabric dye to refresh a pair of jeans. The CVS site said that it was in stock here, so we went in. We were greeted immediately, and as I stood scanning the aisle signs for the laundry section, the manager asked if we were looking for something. My husband said that we were looking for dye, and without a pause, the manager said with certainty and condescension, "Oh, we don't carry dye." I stopped, and said that the CVS site said they did, showing him my phone screen with the product on the CVS site, stating its availability at this location. He repeated himself with more scorn than I would have thought possible: "I don't know why it would say that, because we definitely don't carry dye." At this point his smirk is like a fire hydrant of derision, and I'm pretty miffed and all I can stammer out is, "Well the site says you do." He turns on his heel, making a beeline for the laundry aisle and calling out behind him, "well we don't..." as he bends down and retrieves a bottle of, yes, the dye. He holds it out, saying, "Oh, well we only carry this color," and I respond that that was the one I was looking for. He says "oh, sorry," and walks away to the registers. I felt extremely disrespected by the experience, and will actively avoid this CVS in the future if at all possible, even though I live across the street. 1 star for having the product I needed, even if the manager would have chased me away if I hadn't already checked to see that it was sold here. read more

So unfortunate that you have to give credit where none is due. Cvs seems like a fine company in general but this particular location must be too busy or too lazy I can't decide. I've called in prescriptions to the pharmacy for a pregnant wife and were told 30 min. When I got there an hr later, the earliest I could get there, it still wasn't ready. I little upset by this customer service, I guess I understand It took me waiting an extra 40 min to get the medication once I was there. Seriously that's over an hour after they said it was going to be ready. I don't know about you but I have a hundred things better to do any given day than to sit around waiting at a pharmacy for medication that was supposed to be ready. The reason they get only one is because this is absolutely not the first time this has happened. We have since switched our prescriptions over to costco where it is cheaper btw. I don't know how it's different prices because of insurance but our prescription was for 8 pills cost $32 at cvs. At costco it's 30 pills for $30. Just check out yours at costco or somewhere else. On a side note no matter what we go to pick up for our daughter wether it be teething tablets or cold tablets or what not their stock is always empty. Maybe we just have bad luck, or maybe they can own up to bad service.....just saying. read more

So I've used CVS's in multiple cities. While I live in ABQ, I'm in San Diego for a business trip and have had the "experience" of this CVS twice. Once when I took a colleague here because she needed some cold meds. She is international so wasn't sure what to get for her symptoms so wanted to talk to a pharmacist. They were so unhelpful to her and trying to get a pharmacy consult on nonprescription medicines was impossible at this location. Also to do anything at this location was extremely slow. I decided to brave this location a second time because they were having a really good sale on some vitamins I take so I thought I'd go pick up a couple bottles (buy one get one free). I picked up a few and took them to the checkout, I thought one should have been on the buy one get one free sale but the computer said otherwise. The woman said she would go back and look. 10 minutes later (in a store that isn't that big) she comes back and says she cant find them. There vitamins are alphabetical by brand, its not that difficult and there was several more on the shelf when I left. She stated that they weren't on the diet aisle (they were vitamins and told her where I found them) and the self scan price check said they weren't on sale therefore they weren't. While I understand I could have made a mistake that they were on sale, it was frustrating that she stated that they weren't back there when she didn't even look at where I told her I got them and then did the roll eye's bit when I told her I didn't want them if they weren't on sale and to remove them from the order. I didn't think it needed to be so dramatic. While it was nice of her to go do a price check on the shelf, it doesn't make up for the slowness of this store and the other issues I experienced the previous trip. read more

I wanted to comment on the pharmacy. It's been my experience that the pharmacists (not all but some) are sometimes rude and unhelpful. I always feel like a number, not a person, when I'm waiting in line to fill a prescription. It seems to me customer service is at the very bottom of the pharmacy department's to do list. If you LOVE waiting on long lines this is totally the pharmacy for you. I need to bite the bullet and have all of my Rxs transferred to another pharmacy. It is like going to a Soviet era post office here. Wait on line A. Get told to move to line B. watch the 3 employees behind the counter chat with each other while one surly person helps the 8 people waiting on line B. Be told that your Rx isn't ready yet even though you got an automated call telling you it was ready. Sit and wait. Repeat as needed. read more

Bigger CVS than other I have been to. I think it's because they souvenirs for tourists and a section of beach things in case you're on your way there and forgot something. I felt like the prices were about the same as any other CVS. The only difference is that they do have over priced tourist gifts. So here's my problem with this CVS: my Hubby, daughter and I stopped to buy a gift bag and card seeing that we were in a hurry to get to a family event. My hubby decided to take a six pack of beer, waters and ice. As we got to the cashier my hubby pulled out his card to pay, the cashier asked for his Identification card obviously to verify his age for the beer purchase (we are in our late 20's), she then turned to me and asked if I had one too. I said no, because I wasn't expecting to buy anything, as it was, I wasn't purchasing these items to begin with. She said I was policy to ask for everyone's identification regardless of who's purchasing the beer. That was a surprise to me! One because I believe they must ask for identification from he person making the purchase and two because we don't look under age. She made us walk to the car to get my I.D. Or she wouldn't sell him the beer. She said it was policy. I wonder if that's only policy in La Jolla because I know that's not policy in Los Angeles. We did as she asked but i felt it was unnecessary and she repeated that it was policy several times when I wasn't even questioning her. read more
