I have had multiple encounters with this pharmacy through calling medications in for my doctors office. The pharmacy staff is one of the most rude and condescending people I have experienced thus far. I understand being a pharmacist is stressful especially when you are so busy. But taking the time to clear up a misunderstanding instead of yelling, attitude, sass, sighing, and hanging up on is absolutely uncalled for. Please try to be more understanding and thoughtful instead of lashing out at a small inconvenience or misunderstanding. Our clients have also had many bad experiences picking up medications, trying to get refills, or just being educated by the pharmacist on the the medication is for. I had a great experience at CVS on 41st Street in Oakland today. I asked when CVS would be offering second Covid boosters which the FDA/CDC approved yesterday. To my surprise, I was told by Zachery, the pharmacy manager, that I could get an appointment for a booster today. He helped me to sign up and respond to a questionnaire about any allergies to vaccines etc. Then a pharmacy tech named Abdul kindly administered the booster. Yoali was also very helpful when I asked her for information. I was in and out in less thn 15 minutes. What a great store. I've been a customer at this CVS ("Convenience, Value, Service") for 30 years, starting in the way-back when they were living in the Trieste site and were Longs. I've been getting progressively more and more unhappy with using this pharmacy over the past year or so - coincidentally during the time that management slowly replaced the original pharmacy staff with new faces. In the past year, the pharmacy staff have failed to follow up with renewals, have mystifyingly failed to be able to fill my five monthly prescriptions on one day, and failed to let me know that my insurance no longer covers a lifesaving prescription - and not filling the prescription - while filling non-essential prescriptions. This month was the month they failed to do all three at the same time, and when the rude, snotty, and unhelpful person on the phone told me in regards to the prescription no longer covered told me "oh, I can see **allllllllll** of your prescriptions", the creep factor and my dissatisfaction level reached critical mass. To his credit, the pharmacist when I actually spoke with *him* was helpful, but I found his defense of the rude and creepy counter staff unnerving and unacceptable. I am transferring all of my prescriptions from this CVS pharmacy, and any and all CVS pharmacies. I don't need to spend one second of my time wondering if some disgruntled employee is maliciously accessing my healthcare information. I recommend that others consider the level of service, value, convenience and professionalism you feel this pharmacy is capable of delivering. I will no longer accept their frequent irresponsibility or their rude and creepy staff. Take care and good luck! read more

BY FAR THE WORST PHARMACY I'VE EVER BEEN TO. Not just on one occasion but pretty much on every occasion my prescription isn't ready for pick up. I've already lowered my expectations of receiving it the same day but even after giving them over 24hrs notice, it still does not get filled in a timely manner. Worst of all, each time I call in they tell me I don't have any refills and to check with my doctor. So I check with my doctor who informs me I still have refills on file, they just didn't bother to check. This caused my monthly refill to be delayed. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I KID YOU NOT. On my last three pick ups, the online status clearly says it had been filled, however, when I come in it is not ready. So they've even managed to mess that up. This is quite literally baffling. I've never seen such a thing. I won't even comment on their customer service because it is non-existent. read more

Dirty store. Shelves need to be dusted and cleaned on a regular basis. You can take an item off the shelf, look at the bottom and see dust and dirt at the bottom. Gross. Also, in the back where the cold sodas are, the fans inside of the refrigerators are coated in dirt. Lastly, some of the sodas were expired. Do better. read more

I had a Covid -19 booster at this pharmacy a while back, and the personnel was very patient with me while I waited to get the injection. It took a long time, but I had an appointment. At least I was able to walk around the store, and found items that I would like to try. read more

I went to 3 CVS locations in Oakland and Alameda today to try and get a money order and I was very disappointed by the standard of care I received until I came to this location. The CVS location off broadway, there money order machine was down. I had called before and they said yes they have them. The lady at the front desk tried to ask the other associates for help, but no one responded to her so she just told me to go to another CVS location to try and get the money order bc their system was down. Location 2, CVS off lakeshore in Oakland. I called and the guy said they close at 9:00 PM, I rushed to get there and they locked their doors on me at 8:57 PM. I'm banging and knocking on the door but they pretended to "not hear me". They clearly had camera footage so you can Probably see me arriving at 8:57 and knocking on the doors. Location 3, CVS on 41st at Piedmont. FINALLY I called and they were able to get my money order. Fast quick and easy. The associate Christine Was very nice, helpful and friendly. Just went to get my bivalent COVID booster. Things went smoothly but when I entered the little screened off space for the shot I saw the technician wasn't wearing a mask. I asked his where his mask was and he shrugged and said not necessary. I said it was. I was masked following good practice recommended by every health expert in the Bay Area and California. I left complaint with CVS corporate. There are many locations to get these new vaccines, if you go here talk to management first and insist they require their technicians to wear appropriate masks. Several years ago Keith R helped me, making sure that I could get a perscription that would run out while I was out of state. Keith R not only guided me on how to manage the process but expedited it as well. At one point, several years ago, I decided to save money by having my scripts handled by another pharmacy (Walgreens). It only took two refills for me to return to THIS pharmacy (and company). I learned my lesson. I appreciate the courtesy that I enjoy, the professionalism I observe and the well stocked shelves. Adjacent parking is helpful. The delivery service comes in 2 hours... which sure makes life safer. ALL my perscriptions, some vitamins, etc. are delivered during this risky time. Many items locked behind plexiglass. Non functional call button for Tylenol. No floor staff anywhere. Finally interrupt what appear to be three kids in the Pharmacy bitching at each other about scheduling. The one who 'helps' has an irredeemably snotty attitude and I ask why the product is locked up and he is offended. Says because it gets stolen. I Point to similar product on shelf and ask why then is this one out? Says-whatever! Much more concerned with inventory control than customer service. Truly aggavating. read more

The cashier, Darnell, was very rude to me and that is not ok. He was arguing that I needed an app to get a special that was in the paper. 1) why argue with a paying customer? 2) he was wrong! The app was for additional savings. 3) he kept running his mouth ... on and on ... and it was unnecessary. The manager, Anna, came to the rescue. She managed to salvage my transaction. Worst pharmacy experience I've ever had. Terrible communication: I had to beg for every little scrap of information about my prescription. They forgot to ask for or comfirm my insurance details when I dropped off the Rx, wasting more of my time later on. Never called or texted, despite my having written my phone number on the prescription. Plus they're slow: quoted me an hour, and after two hours, it still wasn't ready. The pharmacist who administered my flu shot took time to find an egg free shot for me, and asked if I had other allergies. She then took extra time to alert me to some things I should be aware of with a fish allergy, for instance, off-the-shelf vitamins that contain shellfish. It was super nice of her, and it is very great information to have. I gave the store one less star mostly because it's busy and understaffed. I think they need a few more people. The pharmacist found herself running back and forth to take care of the number of online appointments. It's a lot for a little store to deal with all this so it made me particularly grateful for the pharmacist's kindness. read more

I go to this store a lot and the pharmacy staff is excellent, but on my most recent visit I felt extremely uncomfortable and disrespected. There was a woman who worked there (Anna) following a Black guy around. Then she started talking to a customer about him and how he comes in and steals all the time. Then they joking with a CUSTOMER at check out about what she would so to him. Saying she would have the other cashier George kick him and stuff. This is completely inappropriate. No associates in the store should be joking about racial profiling and following around Black customers and the physical force that they plan to use on them. I mentioned it to george at the register since he was not involved in the conversation and he empathized with how inappropriate it was. But someone like Anna should not be working in the store representing CVS in such a negative way and joking around about assaulting Black people in the store. read more

Terrible PHARMACIST today 3/10. Had question (needed consultation) & was brushed off, rushed along, and told to call my doctor if I had an issue. What I had was a question for the PHARMACIST about the drug dosage. Perhaps if she doesn't want to be at the counter, then management should be doing it. Not the best CVS. It's small and oddly-stocked. Plenty of two-liter bottles of soda, for example, but no full-size packages of contact solution. Still, it's fine in a pinch if you need something and you're nearby. (as long as it's not contact solution) read more

I'm usually very understanding and empathetic when it comes to customer service, but this experience truly baffled me. My doctor submitted a prescription to the pharmacy, I hear no updates. I check my account and it says to call the pharmacy (no email, text, call). I call explaining that I am literally out of my medication and whoever answered was so incredibly rude and condescending to me. She said the pharmacist needed to review the dosage amount because they needed to make sure they had enough for regulars?? And then she commented that it was a high amount of medication I needed. I then asked if any other CVS nearby would have enough of the medicine to fill it and she said she wasn't sure. I then asked if there was anything I could do since I really need it filled ASAP and she said no, followed by a long silence. Absolutely no care for patients and there seems to be a high level of judgment/stigma around the medication I needed (adderall - for my professional diagnosed ADHD), which left me with a gross feeling after hanging up. Thank god this is a one time prescription fill before I return to Alto. read more

I was super excited to see a CVS near my new apartment since it's my chain drugstore of choice (I do wish it was a Pharmaca though)...and was way less excited when I finally got inside. It's really small and cramped and they don't have the variety of products I'm used to finding at CVS (in terms of hair products, moisturizers, etc.). The setup is weird (random displays in inconvenient locations) and it's very dim inside. They do have a decent selection of wine, beer, and spirits, considering it's such a small place! Not a lot of cleaning and household supplies. Staff/service is mixed. I've always been pleased with service at the pharmacy. At the register - not so much. Clerk couldn't find my photo order which I had been told was ready for pickup. Manager comes over and finds it with no problem. But somehow he didn't scan it properly, so I started getting phone calls from CVS at 6:30am reminding me to pickup my photo order! That said, it's convenient, for now. And I do love the ExtraCare Card and the ExtraBucks and so on - makes for a lot of bargains! read more

Super small CVS, but it does have a shared parking lot since street parking is difficult to find around there. The service was fair, but they weren't very attentive when I shopped there at night. I was looking at their cards section and came across only a couple of cards that caught my interest. This location needs more vibrant colors and more variety of goods around the store. read more

So, I have a nasty cough and my pharmacy is out of my prescription cough medicine. I called this pharmacy and the employee was incredibly rude, saying he couldn't even tell me whether it was in stock without me showing up with prescription in hand. I had just called four other pharmacies who were able to do that, so I know it's not true. The employee then proceeded to hang up on me. It's been a long time since I've been treated so rudely, and like I'm a drug seeker for wanting cough medicine with codeine so I can finally sleep. I called back and told him he could certainly tell me whether or not it was in stock. Without checking anything, he says immediately that they don't have it and hangs up again. The security guard was incredibly rude. Right when we walked in he judged us off our appearance and tailed us throughout the entire store. Once we were in line he then told us to move to another check out where we paid. And then he had the audacity to accuse us of stealing as we were walking out. There was not apology made at all. I came to this CVS to get 8 Arizona juices and when I got to the register the Cashier rang them up and told me that they were $1.00 each as they showed. I told her they were .50 cents each and she said well where does it say that so I walked all the way back to the refrigerator to get the tag and she said well whatever as if it was no big deal that after she underestimated me. I just think if I had a job and I spoke this way I wouldn't be working there anymore. I think people who have this sort of attitude going into work, should be trained a bit more. read more

I'm surprised by the bad reviews here. To be clear mine is for the pharmacy but I've also had excellent service from the store. I shopped here almost everyday from 2011-2013 but haven't been back since I sold my business down the street. But today my doctor gave me a prescription that no pharmacy seemed to have. Some would not even tell me on the phone if they had it, but this place did and they had it in stock, and three different clerks graciously helped me with my screwed up insurance card. Everybody was exceptionally nice, friendly, and caring, and I can be very demanding, so I'm grateful. Nothing worse than being sick then getting bad service with your drugs. While I was waiting there were two very testy and crabby customers who I thought were rude and simply unwilling to understand the patient explaining the clerks kept offering. This is a great neighborhood CVS within walking distance, making for an easy weekly (at the very least) visit. The folks in the pharmacy are so friendly and helpful. I've had no complaints about anything (except when all the ice cream disappeared from the freezers ;)). Every so often there may be unpleasant customers, but zero problems with employees. read more

I have visited several CVS: North Oakland, Fremont and Fairfield locations all provide great customer service. Each pharmacy is personable and helpful when it comes to either being in a rush or not fully understanding your prescription outside of the regular consultation that is normally provided with a prescription. There has been times as well when outside of the prescribed medication that if I ask for other specifics on how to better my health they have very knowledgeable as well. This is crucial because I personally do not like to take medication of any type if I do not have to. Highly recommended. read more

It's CVS. Shelves are often empty of what you came by for; though it's in the back if you send a manager back to get some. Managers ought to spend their time stocking shelves. You're loaded at checkout with coupons valid for a couple of days for items you don't buy, and sales usually exclude things you do by, like milk. Checkout clerks are often understaffed and often frayed. But, the pharmacy section - Virginia and Mary are superb - patient and knowledgeable with an often aged clientele. The rest of the pharmacy staff deserved praise too; i can't imagine what CVS rules they have to work with. read more

Please be advised that if you use the pharmacy on 41st and Howe, they provide terrible service. My husband was recently discharged from the hospital and they gave him esigned prescriptions. I took these to this pharmacy to get filled and they said they couldn't without another signature. They agreed to call to verify the prescriptions however when we returned the following day, they had done nothing and apparently the pharmacist felt "uncomfortable" feeling the prescription. I feel uncomfortable that people who live locally and rely on pharmacists feelings to get their prescriptions. Mind you these were not controlled substances. I'm horrified that a pharmacy couldn't care less about ensuring people get necessary medications especially in a time of COVID where hospitals are over maxed and missing medications when faced with severe bacterial infections can land someone right back in the hospital. I'll start by saying the employees that work here are consistently great. That's really the only thing I can say that's good about this CVS location. This store really makes the entire CVS brand look ridiculous. I don't know how much of the problems it has are in common with the rest of the CVS chain but I suspect CVS doesn't really know how to run their business. At this store it can often can take up to 15 minutes just to get out of the store with a single item. It is unbelievable how poorly implemented the CVS loyalty program is. They have two machines that print coupons and one is often on the fritz (but of course you don't realize that until you walk to that machine and stand in front it.) If you get a working machine it can take 20 seconds after you scan your card to finally get your coupons printed out. The real irony is that even though the machines would seem to be referencing a customer's loyalty account more than 80% of the stuff you waited 20 seconds to receive printouts for are things that you would never even buy there. For instance I've never bought a candy bar there or any candy for that matter yet I consistently get coupons for candy bars and candies and oodles of stuff that bear no relation whatsoever to anything I ever buy. Another problem with the loyalty program is its implementation severely slows down the line. Every single customer is asked if they have their card with them and of course most don't yet they need that card to take advantage of any weekly sales. Therefore each transaction can be delayed by two or three minutes while the customer and the cashier try and navigate entry of the customer's phone number which is sometimes incorrect or incorrectly entered. I've even heard customers trying three different phone numbers none of which are correct or correctly entered. Isn't that a bit dangerous to be giving out your phone number at a public store where everyone can hear it? Think of how much that could put someone at risk. The store has a front door on 41st St. and a back door that faces the parking lot. The front door hours are unposted and completely inconsistent therefore customers often walk to the front door and find it locked during normal business hours and have to walk to the back door all the way around the building if they want to buy something. Oftentimes there will be just one cashier with eight or more people in line. Then when they do open up another cash register anyone who wants to check out at the other cash register will probably have to walk to the other side of the store pay for their goods and then have to walk out of the back of the store since the front door's locked. I've never seen a chain store that is so poorly and inconsistently stocked. Seems that half the time I go there I end up needing to ask an employee to go see if they have something in the back that really ought to be on the shelf. This process can waste about 10 minutes or more and has about a 50% success rate. The store doesn't do any checking to make sure that the items on the shelves are not past their expiration date rather they just post signs here and there instructing the customer to check the expiration date. Really! The store is a smallish neighborhood store and really ought to make the best use of its shelf space. Unfortunately when CVS took over the store from Long's they made the decision to stock it with tons of non-drugstore stuff that the local population really doesn't buy. Based on the store being a two minute walk from where I live I go there out of convenience but considering it can take eight times as long to get out of the store as it did to walk there. Perhaps CVS corporate is clueless, I don't know. I just know that half the time I go in there I will really regret shopping at this store. read more

This is my local pharmacist. I want to like them. But they are so often hostile to the idea of customer service that it makes me question the entire ethic of the place. Today was the last straw: I've been begging for a discount or something to get a mental health drug for my daughter. They've been charging us 700 a month. It's killing us financially. Finally, now on month 4, I talked to someone at the Safeway pharmacy who told me that drug was available for $24 through GoodRX at Safeway. Now, I've been pleading with the oharmacist for an option for 3 monthsZ "Nope" he says each time. So I go in today to ask "what the heck" and he acts Like I'm ridiculous for asking. I ask him to transfer the script to Safeway, and he says they need to call him. What he doesn't acknowledge is that their phone lines have been down for 3 days. So I hike bike in and insist that they call Safeway with me present. Well that didn't go over well. But I continued to insist and finally he did. Last time I go there, I promised him. read more

I guess I can online, but I was in the 'hood so I wanted it NOW. I just got a pack of chewing gum. The cash-register transaction was kinda speedy; hence the bonus one-star.
