This market was always a really good market. Going back to the early 2000s, it always had a unique vibe and atmosphere to it. As there was always a good variety of products with chips, drinks, candy and so much more. And the staff were always overall friendly and nice to talk to about stuff. The location of this market has always been convenient whenever nearby, and it's always had clean and god produce scent. The only major issue with it now is how expensive it has gotten over the years. Like many other reviewers, call me disappointed and dismayed at the new ownership. I can't even speak to the pricing since I will not purchase anything here anymore, due to the utter rudeness of the owner and another person, the poor quality of the produce (brown broccoli is not a desirable item, owners take note), and the general vibe with a garish cigarette display reminiscent of the Las Vegas airport. Case in point, at the checkout counter I once was purchasing a small item and the staffer (son of owner?) first, didn't even acknowledge me and just kept talking on the phone and second, had been eating something, licked his fingers and then completed the transaction without cleaning his hands! The yuck factor was great. On another occasion, I asked the owner about the cigarette kiosk and if he sold a lot of cigarettes and he said, oh, yes. Now, this tells me he didn't adequately scope out the clientele of this neighborhood as smoking cigarette is definitely not a common activity in these parts. As others have noted, there's a Safeway in Montclair, Rocky's up Park Blvd. and I'll add, Farmer Joe's a short drive away. read more

I've been going to Savemore Market for many years. They've had a great selection of products and more importantly, good customer service. I've really tried to welcome and connect as a neighbor to the new owners. The store is in a prime location and serves many locals. Yet, time and again the new owners have been rude and at times seemingly confrontational when asked about pricing on certain items that have no price tag on them. When asked how much it is, they seem to think it's challenge? Rather, it's that the items have no pricing. The lotto machine is broken, but without indicative signage. So after loosing money on it, the owners refused to reimburse and were angry about being asked. Not sure if the current owners have ever owned a grocery store in a friendly neighborhood before. The aggressive attitude is just too much for simple purchases. They might be top heavy in alcohol products, but they are very light in basic customer service. I'll be going to Rocky's just up the street instead. Sorry that Glenview has lost what was a great store. read more

This place has really gone downhill with the new ownership. Savemore used to be a little market where you could get almost anything you needed. The new owners are turning this into a more of a run of the mill liquor store, stocking less and less groceries and staples and increasingly adding more liquor, cigarettes and junk food. I'm really not sure what they were thinking, the previous model worked so well and I would come here multiple times for basic needs (I even remarked in my last review how they seem to have everything). Now I often come home empty handed. The owner likes to say it's just "out of stock", but he never actually checks, and when I come back week after week they never restock it, and instead the shelf is now filled with more hard liquor. I think they massively misunderstood their local clientele, and I don't see this going well for them. In the meantime I'm doing more of my shopping at Rocky's or Safeway. I asked for an itemized receipt and let him know about one item that was marked up (there was another) and he got very argumentative and asked "Is this the first time at my shop?" When we asked the new manager (maybe owner?) for help with the nightly alarm, he was aggressive and inexplicably hostile. He told us he doesn't sleep and we don't need to either. Way too many people are not giving this store enough credit. If you've lived in the neighborhood long enough, you know that the family that owns it and also the people who work there are essentially community staples, and I've earned everything that they have. I hardly ever go to Savemore anymore, primarily because like most people note, you save less but that shouldn't be any reason not to shop there. The prices are a bit high, but it's understandable because it's a local business. Even more, they have to make a profit otherwise they could be pushed out like so many other failed businesses in the area and our state in general. What stands out to me is that they truly are a neighborhood grocery store that has practically everything a community could want. The food that they sell here, you can get at most grocery stores. The atmosphere is also always active and respectful. It's easy to get to, they're open until pretty late, the staff is friendly, and despite being broken into numerous times over the years, have been robbed that gun point years back, not once have they ever been phased nor put into a corner to where they would actually leave the neighborhood. Great name. I'll "Save More" because I won't be buying from here. I called midway through construction of a multi-bottle order of whiskey. Was ordering via Drizly. With two of the four or five bottles added in preparation for the upcoming holidays and a neighborhood tasting, I called, and was transferred to someone who didn't want to work. I guess they're too successful. I asked which Act and Scene (batch) they carried for High Whiskey's A Midwinter Night's Dram. He said it was from last year only after following up on his original lazy answer. "Last year" doesn't really tell me which Scene. I can guess which Act. I'd probably be open to it, but at least tell me if I care enough to call. I've included a picture of a label in this review to show how easy it is to tell. And I politely mentioned that. He said he understood that, but the bottle wasn't near him at the moment. Why have a phone? Maybe he was too busy to make a quick few hundred bucks, but though I was very polite, he couldn't be bothered. So that's that. I'll mirror him and say "Why bother?" My neighbors and friends, like others, buy based on word of mouth the things we like or want to try. We're always happy to find new sources, which is where this store could distinguish itself. Within reason, it isn't about the money, it's about the selection. For me, every transaction is clean and quick, and I'll buy based on a merchant's recommendation. This is literally a 5 minute walk and want nothing else than 5 stars for this group but it just sucks. I've tried for months (Aug-Oct 2023) and it is just disappointing every time. Overpriced ($2.50 for a can of expired black beans!), questionable produce, a constant stack of garbage at the front door, smells, and I shit you not, always a hoard of people congregating inside the entrance of the shop so you have to weasel your way between them to get in and out. Listen, I get it. Family run, local, blah blah. The dad and his friends like to hangout at the door and bullshit while the entitled, snotty kids on their cell phone run the cashier. It makes for such a shit place to visit and shop. Drove by yesterday 10/29 and there was a mountain of trash to the right of the entrance. This is such a great neighborhood and don't understand why these people can't see their potential and step up. Although the most convenient location ever, I will not go here unless I'm in dire straits. I have given this place a ton of business during Covid (and now after). Sad they took away the yummy sandwiches BUT! The new beer cooler has a great selection! I always order the same thing and the owner always keeps a cold bottle for me on hand. One time I ordered (delivery) and he left a note for me apologizing the wine wasn't cold. He's so sweet. Love the fresh veggie selection, great coffee choices and you can pick up treats from other local business. I always go there to pick up cookies from a local Berkeley business to take home to my Mom. If there is something by chance they don't have they will order it! Love this store and I never go to Safeway anymore. Highly recommended! Ps.
