Way too many people are not giving this store enough credit. If you've lived in the neighborhood long enough, you know that the family that owns it and also the people who work there are essentially community staples, and I've earned everything that they have. I hardly ever go to Savemore anymore, primarily because like most people note, you save less but that shouldn't be any reason not to shop there. The prices are a bit high, but it's understandable because it's a local business. Even more, they have to make a profit otherwise they could be pushed out like so many other failed businesses in the area and our state in general. What stands out to me is that they truly are a neighborhood grocery store that has practically everything a community could want. The food that they sell here, you can get at most grocery stores. The atmosphere is also always active and respectful. It's easy to get to, they're open until pretty late, the staff is friendly, and despite being broken into numerous times over the years, have been robbed that gun point years back, not once have they ever been phased nor put into a corner to where they would actually leave the neighborhood. I can never see the neighborhood without this place. 4/5

Great name. I'll "Save More" because I won't be buying from here. I called midway through construction of a multi-bottle order of whiskey. Was ordering via Drizly. With two of the four or five bottles added in preparation for the upcoming holidays and a neighborhood tasting, I called, and was transferred to someone who didn't want to work. I guess they're too successful. I asked which Act and Scene (batch) they carried for High Whiskey's A Midwinter Night's Dram. He said it was from last year only after following up on his original lazy answer. "Last year" doesn't really tell me which Scene. I can guess which Act. I'd probably be open to it, but at least tell me if I care enough to call. I've included a picture of a label in this review to show how easy it is to tell. And I politely mentioned that. He said he understood that, but the bottle wasn't near him at the moment. Why have a phone? Maybe he was too busy to make a quick few hundred bucks, but though I was very polite, he couldn't be bothered. So that's that. I'll mirror him and say "Why bother?" My neighbors and friends, like others, buy based on word of mouth the things we like or want to try. We're always happy to find new sources, which is where this store could distinguish itself. Within reason, it isn't about the money, it's about the selection. For me, every transaction is clean and quick, and I'll buy based on a merchant's recommendation. Yet this store has distinguished itself in the wrong way. Thanks Savemore, we hardly knew ye. Congrats on the overwhelming success.

Savemore is a small neighborhood market with a deli counter (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=WAxnJuao45itv2clpYsp5Q) with pastries, donuts (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=ECjB6AT0w9Lk9l7x7IVB7w), and coffee (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=x4-1I7Kuy3UvlL24cTb8Tw) available in addition to sandwiches and meats by the pound. I've like the deli sandwiches here along with their hot sandwiches like Reuben and BBQ Chicken which can get messy (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=_0CgHOTNyHR34UasoyI3uw). They redid their chalkboard menu and the Falafel was more prominent so I gave it a try. I started to regret this decision when I heard the microwave start up. Looked OK (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/savemore-market-and-liquor-oakland?select=EY0seZVk_q_Z_Kk3b7pMaA&userid=DsHsuhUvyyW_75zFcJxkKw), but hard pita and microwaved falafel don't make for a good sandwich which is pulling the overall rating from 4 stars to 3.

    What I paid for

I don't know how they are in person but you're better off not ordering through any delivery service from here. I got ~ half of what I paid for if you count incorrect substitutions. So disappointing, especially given the selection they claim to offer. Pics of what was ordered v. what was delivered

Every beer I looked at had old brew dates - the freshest being January 2025. Again, we're in August of 2025. I took a picture of one Fort Point beer - March of 2024 (see my screenshot). This is not remotely acceptable. And that does it for me and Bevmo. There are lots of options out there to get good beer - you'd think Bevmo would stop selling this super old stuff - but they won't. It appears all Bevmos sell old beer. Count me out. That's the last time I ever step foot in a Bevmo. Also note - people do not need to be greeted when they walk in. For the life of me I do not understand why Bevmo thinks people like this. The person stops what they're doing a the register to yell "Welcome, hello!" to everyone who walks in. This isn't Blockbuster. It's a liquor store. Let people walk in and mind their own business without being accosted when they walk in (and walk out - "Bye, have a great day!"). And bye to you, Bevmo. (and note, the "Customer service" bot will respond with the stock response "we're sorry to hear about your service, please email us at blah blah blah..." And what happens when you email them? Nothing, outside getting put on a spam list. Avoid this dump) update edit: And the customer service bot responded exactly like I said. How is this place even still open?

I don't consider myself a beer connoisseur, but I like trying different beers and ciders so this place was right up my alley. I had a friend visiting Berkeley from out of town so we came here to hang out and catch up. One thing that stood out to me is this place, because it's a taproom and not a brewery, is open later than the other beer places in the East Bay. Many choices of beer and cider on tap. I tried the ginger peppercorn cider and it was very unique, I've never had a cider like this flavor, it's almost like a cross between ginger beer and cider. My friends enjoyed various beers on tap. The place is pretty small but very clean and cute. I like that you can choose from 10 oz or 16 oz pour, so people like me can try more varieties in smaller portion than just drinking one boring thing. I like variety. The all you can eat popcorn was a hit with our little group. The truffle flavor really elevates the popcorn and it goes well with beer! There's so much free parking in this area at night... super convenient... although it scared me for a minute when I couldn't find my car in the very empty street lot, before I realized I was another block farther down. This area of Berkeley feels pretty safe at night even at 11pm. Good place. I would definitely go again!

From the very beginning, the customer service was lacking. Before finalizing my event, I visited the venue in person to ask questions and get a better understanding of the space. The Hispanic male employee I interacted with was unfriendly, unapproachable, and unable or unwilling to answer even basic questions, repeatedly telling me to contact sales. While I understand that sales handles bookings, I expected someone who works at the venue to be able to provide some level of assistance or information. Unfortunately, his attitude remained the same during the event. Several things that had been requested were not set up as discussed, and the overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming. What upset me most was that some of my guests arrived carrying water bottles, and this employee openly told me, in front of my guests, that he would kick us out if he sees outside drinks again. I found this incredibly embarrassing, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. The experience became so uncomfortable that many of my guests left early. For what was supposed to be a special occasion, the service and treatment we received fell far below expectations. Considering the amount spent, I expected professionalism, hospitality, and a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, we received the opposite. I would not host another event here, nor would I recommend this venue to others looking for a place to celebrate an important occasion.

The inside has a nice modern look and there is a lounge to the side open for happy hour. We sat in there which has its own bar. It is very cozy. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and I ordered the French Onion soup with a bacon grilled cheese. Our waiter started off well but when he came to get our orders he didn't write anything down and I had to repeat myself twice. The first time he was facing my husband, the second he came to my side and I pointed at the menu while slowly repeating my order. I simply wanted a grilled cheese with bacon added no avocado as it is advertised as an add on, on the menu. As he walked away a part of me knew my order was going to be messed up. Low and behold my soup arrives with a side of bacon. I then explained again what I ordered. A few moments pass and he comes back and then my husband explains what I wanted. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but it just didn't seem to register. I truly did not think asking for soup & bacon grilled cheese would be so difficult. By this time my husband had already received his salad which was delicious. Finally, he comes back with my soup, a grilled cheese and the bacon ON THE SIDE. If I ordered a bacon grilled cheese why would you give me like this? Why not make my grilled cheese and add the bacon inside? To make matters worse the French onion soup was so bland not even salt could save it. It tasted like a nothingness broth. The grilled cheese was better once I made it myself. The waiter never came back to check on us. The manager hovered by for a while but we had to even flag him down for the check. I left hungry and got a meal at the airport. Would not recommend. If you can't remember an order as a waiter please just write it down.

We ordered via DoorDash, and I wouldn't call our experience "heroic."…read more The pinsa was very good. We got the Calabrian shrimp. We found it very tasty, but paying over $25 for this on DoorDash--certainly not worth the price even though we really enjoyed it. The spicy chicken parm sandwiches were not good. The chicken breast was flabby, and came across like it was one of those frozen cooked Tyson jobs. I would be very surprised if they actually breaded chicken breast, fried it, and made the sandwich with that. It was mushy, and the breading was like paste on the chicken. Pretty awful. They charge extra for sauce, which is a little much, given that we paid $21 for each sandwich. But we figured out pretty quickly why they do this: there was hardly any sauce on the sandwiches. And precious little cheese. We each ate half of our sandwich and figured we doctor the leftovers up the next day with a jar of Rao's and a bag of shredded Italian cheese. That helped, but nothing could save that chicken. The meatballs. We paid $15 for four, and we had high hopes, but they were so mushy that they fell apart in the sauce, and I couldn't tell what was sauce and what was meatballs. The only flavor that came across was fennel. Why any meatball should be so fennel-forward strikes me as bizarre. We got what we thought were pretty basic things, and they were fails. If an Italian place can't make a decent chicken parm sandwich nor a decent meatball, that says something. If you go, try the pinsa.
