I enjoyed the standard plate that included a homemade biscuit the size of my head. Yes, I finished it. I mean, it was a homemade biscuit for Pete's sake! Iasked for soft poaced eggs and I got them. Lovely table service, too. Now, off to rehearsal for a film!

Our only real option was two seats at the bar. We had quick and attentive service from the bartender. Interesting offerings for cocktails, and we enjoyed our drinks. The food I think can be best described as American/Thai/Asian. Food came pretty fast, and we started with crab rangoon, and possibly the largest we have ever been served. Fried up crisp, not greasy and generously filled with cream cheese and real crab. Next up, we tried the Waygu burger which was quite good, nice toppings. My only complaint here was we wished the fries were fresh out of the fryer. I'm really fussy about fries and like them hot, crispy and fresh. Sadly, these were not. I had my eye on the Choco Taco for dessert, and this was a sophisticated version of the classic frozen treat you may have enjoyed from the ice cream truck as a kid. Home made with great ingredients, it was a perfect finish to a very nice meal. I would definitely give these guys a try when in Newburyport.

The Statesman City Diner briefly opened in September 2025 in Downtown Manchester on Elm Street,…read moreformer Wild Orchid Bakery and Lala's Hungarian Pastry space. They serve traditional American diner fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also have a coffee/espresso counter with bakery goods and offers cocktails and mocktails. There is also an outside French fries pickup window on the Cat Alley side of the building, which was already opened for a few weeks. The dining space has rows of tables and counter seating and 4 flatscreen TVs in the front. I stopped by the Statesman City Diner on opening day for an early morning breakfast. There is ample free street parking before 8am in front of the diner. The place just opened for business as the staff was still learning things like the getting familiar with the Toast POS system and handheld portable ordering devices. I was able to seat myself at a table and was given a breakfast menu to look over. I requested an ice water and decided on the Jr. Statesman Open Face Salmon Omelette ($15 plus tax) with 3 way homefries and raisin toast. The food arrived to my table in about 20 minutes after ordering. The omelette was a folded firm scrambled egg with salmon (lox) and ricotta cheese. The 3 way homefries were seasoned and grilled with yellow potatoes, blue potatoes, and sweet potatoes. The buttered raisin toast had a nice sugar coating. The portion size was good, taste of food was good, but the omelette and homefries were not very hot. I did request a to-go box for half the omelette and toast so I could eat later at work. The check with Toast QR code was presented which was $16.28 with tax and before tip. Overall, since the place is very new, the staff (front & back) is on a learning curve with regards to the Toast ordering system (it was offline for a bit), speed of service, and temperature of the food. They are still working things out and may be closed several days at a time.
