Came on a Thursday. Thursday's are famously their "Cash is King" night where if you pay cash you get 20% off. It was slammed. Two of us were told 25-30 minute wait. We were sat in just 10 minutes. Even though they were busy food came out super fast. It was delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A little loud in the restaurant but not too bad.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We had an excellent meal on a Saturday night at Revolution Taproom and Grill. We had 5:45 PM reservations as we were trying to get to a show at the Opera House at 7:30, and the timing was excellent. The potstickers were well prepared, and the sauce was delicious. Chicken Thai Lettuce Wraps on the daily specials list, outstanding as well. Fresh butter lettuce, really well seasoned accompaniments. The pizza, as always, was delicious. We had the Madison. The service was stellar, Rachel did a great job, right from the wine service through dessert. All of the staff seemed so happy to do their jobs, pleasant, smiling, hustling. I highly recommend Revolution. Check out their happy hour!

Party of 5 at 4pm on a Friday in late March. $6 apps: Hummus was so good Spinach dip was loved by all Fried greenbeans tempura with chili dipping sauce was also really good Wine selections were reasonable. Meals: Burger with the fried egg - would totally get it again Burger with bacon - definitely loved it Flatbread formaggio - really great dough and good serving size The pizza! Out of this world good. Fresh mozzarella. Amazing sauce. Garlic parm crust was so worth it. And the truffle fries. Absolutely awesome. Crème brûlée for a birthday dessert - well liked by all. A flavorful meal. Service: Casey our server was outstanding. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was clean, tables were comfortable to sit at, we had a great experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Looking forward to our next visit.

You MUST try the lo mein with short ribs! The ribs are shredded with a deep flavor to die for. Our first visit but not our last! The clam chowder is excellent along with their mixed drinks from the bar. The waitress Casey was very fast friendly and professional. She suggested the rice crispy French toast dessert and for that I tipped her extra. I've been in town for a month's visit and this is the best place I've eaten. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And its ambiance is fantastic! You can even eat outside with lights and fire lamps. Plus a live guitarist. It was awesome.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upstairs had a bar and lounge area along two pool tables, a real dart board area along with TVs over the bar area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's like a one stop shop depending on your mood! This was my best experience to date. You should give this place a try.

This was the first time we have been here and we can't wait to return. I can't believe we didn't find this place sooner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere and ambiance were great! Loved the patriotic/ historic vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our sever Dave was amazing and helped us pick really great choices on the broad menu. I loved the spicy noodle dish. I asked for extra spicy and they delivered. All of the apps were great and we cannot wait to go back and try more things. This is a must try!!

Dropped in here the other night for the first time since my last review, 8 years ago. I'm pretty sure we got the same exact server or we just have terrible luck, because she made the comment at the end of the night when we asked for our check "good, I want to go home." I understand we were there late, but it wasn't closing time, was she mad we didn't order food? She told us the kitchen was closing as soon as we sat down. We each had a drink and a crème brûlée. The drinks were ok, nothing to rave about. I tried the dessert, I didn't love it, but my other half thought it was to die for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It wasn't terribly busy, but as the night went on, more and more people(younger crowd) filed in, presumably from other bars that close down earlier than the Rev.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Someday I'd like to try their food, there's quite a few things on the menu that sound good. But for now, my review is solely based on service and drinks.

I came with a group of friends (6 of us total) on a Friday night at 7pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated promptly outside. It was the perfect September evening so we were excited to be able to enjoy the outside area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Hancock pizza we ordered for the table was the first to come out since that is prepared in the wood fired oven. The Neapolitan style had a super thin crust and beautiful char. We loved that they use the pepperonis that turn into lil cups when cooked. I was able to also try the Thai chicken tenders (SO tender and delicious), the Brussel sprouts (a lil greasy, could have been crispier but I liked the addition of the almonds for texture, otherwise they would have been just too soft), and the Korean pork bao buns (the bun was a lil dry/could have been softer). For my main dish, I ordered the spicy barrel burger. The patty was perfectly cooked (medium) but the bun was different/not like than other potato buns I've had (which was a lil disappointing). They also have Revolution Fries ($1 more, comes with cajun aioli), Hipster Fries ($2 cajun style), Parm fries ($2 with parm and garlic), and truffle fries ($3 truffle oil). I asked if they could add parm + garlic to the truffle, which since I was paying the most to upgrade to the truffle fries, you'd think this could be done, but the server said no. I tried a friend's parm fries and wish I had gone with those instead. Our group had a great time. When we got the bill, we felt the value for money was really good, and the food had come out pretty quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The live music and lighting was perfect outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is free and plentiful in downtown Rochester so we would consider coming back again! It's super cool how the menu has Asian influenced menu items - love the variety.

So many beers to choose from.

My wife and I decided to brave the downtown afternoon traffic and have a late lunch at Revolution Taproom. Love the fact they give you 20% off for cash on Thursday! But we also find that the staff is very friendly and service is fast. We started with the IPA battered chicken tenders with the Thai sweet chili sauce. Small order gives three nice sized pieces. For the main dishes I ordered the Hancock pizza with pepperoni, homemade mozzarella and honey drizzle. My wife loves the smoked salmon BLT with the regular fries. The sandwich and the pizza were delicious but the fries were a bit on the plain side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sitting near the bar was a nice quiet spot for lunch with good ambience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was very friendly and attentive as always. Seems this could be a regular thing for us!

We knew we had found a gem when the people walking out testified to how delicious the food was. And from the moment we were greeted the service was terrific. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a very comfortable vibe with touches of sophistication that aren't pretentious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Both the food and beer menus looked to be curated with love. We had the Mediterranean Tasting to start. It was delicious! Then followed that with the smoked salmon BLT and a burger which were both great. The hostess was very attentive and told us about the restaurant which boasts a 5 star chef who has cooked for every president from Nixon to Obama as well as culinary superstars Anthony Bourdain's and Emeril. After retiring to Maine he decided he still wanted to use his culinary expertise and was welcome with open arms at the Revolution. Highly recommend!

    The dumplings were fantastic!

We loved our meal start to finish. The drinks were great too. I wish they would open a location in Manchester so I could enjoy them more frequently.

Very impressive menu. The responsive staff gave clear explanations of all the items and made suggestions for us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was buzzing with happy patrons and live music playing outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What a great mix of options. The beer choices were spot on. The food looked great and came out on time.

Beer is cold and the food is always A+ here. Fantastic pizza, and a specials selection that never disappoints. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and always on top of things. The perfect amount of attention is given to guests. Not too little and not too much. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The historical ambience mixed with modern amenities will keep you entertained and inquisitive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Truly a must try restaurant in the heart of Rochester.

We arrived without a reservation and were told there would be about an hour wait. The host came across as a bit snarky, although he did offer us seats at the bar, which we appreciated. After being seated, it took about 30 minutes before anyone took our order, followed by another 40 minutes before our food arrived. The bartenders were working incredibly hard and were clearly doing everything they could to keep up with the rush, so I don't fault them at all. Unfortunately, one of our meals arrived cold and was extremely over-salted. The restaurant refunded that dish without hesitation, which I appreciated, but it shouldn't have left the kitchen that way in the first place. From what we could see, the kitchen was seriously backed up and the overall operation wasn't being managed well. The staff deserved better support because they were hustling nonstop while trying to deal with unhappy customers. I hope management addresses these issues because the employees are putting in the effort. With better kitchen execution and smoother operations, this could be a much better dining experience.

I always feel so much better after visiting Stalk-it's a light in the darkness, when things feel so…read moredark that you feel swallowed up by it. A cook, myself, I've been held prisoner in jobs that make one feel discouraged due to indifference and laxity. Eating here, taking in the pride of craft and respect for the clientele makes me realise that places -and people-do exist that truly care about about the customer and strive to make them forget their lives outside the comforting walls of this restaurant. We shared a couple of apps: a crispy-skin chicken leg, indeed crispy and as usual, perfectly cooked, as usual. there are few greater pleasures in life like chicken that is juicy and cooked with an expert hand. It came with excellent ricotta mashed potatoes so good my daughter-who normally refuses to eat mashed potato-had to be fended off with my fork so Dad could swipe a couple forkfuls! The dark, flavorful sauce complimented both the meat and the potatoes. We also got the charred Halloumi cheese with pork belly with sweet and sour grapes and a whiff of finely chopped sage, again having to fend off my daughter for my portion...I was detecting a trend here... For the main courses, my wife got the Black Cod with nicely browned fingerling potatoes and braised cabbage/asparagus. She rarely ate unbreaded fish until Stalk introduced her to exquisitely cooked and seasoned fish filets. My daughter got the mushroom and eggplant kofta with a superb cashew hummus and grilled pita that was cooked with love-grilled enough to get grill marks, but not so long as to cook the life out it-they were still soft and fluffy, with just enough crisp to make scooping the hummus practicable. I got, against my usual practice of eating through the menu (as much as possible during a recipe cycle) to get the Sweet Potato Cavatelli-this is one of those dishes that I could never get often enough. the pasta dishes here are unfailingly excellent, with little culinary surprises in every one-this one, for me, in a dish with sausage AND pork belly no less, the unifying surprise is the Balsamic black butter! It just made every bite taste,,,right, perfectly complimenting the dish and making a delightfully whole flavour profile that one would not, perhaps, expect at a first blush. Taken with the Almond Romesco, it gave a slightly sweet, acidic depth that woke and gratified my palate. Again, as a cook, I appreciate the care and consideration on display that a dish such as this displays. It makes me happy... Our desserts, sadly a harbinger of the meals' approaching end, left us with a nice parting glow-the Coconut Rice pudding-with a mango compote, ginger candied cashews and flashy cherry crisps was nice, light finisher, as was the, wait for it, English pea Mojito ice cream. This follows the Mad Scientist-esque genius of Stalk's ice creams. The unbridled exuberance on display with the ice cream flavours, always makes me lean towards the ice creams over many other fine and tempting desserts...this was no exception. The peas provided a subtle pea flavor, the chill mellowing the flavor we typically associate with peas, but not losing it, is worth a victory lap on its own. The zest of lime and a nicely chiffonaded mint layered on the finishing touches without overtaking the finish, a sign of the practiced hands at work. I also must make mention of the French Press coffee service, there is truly no better way to take your coffee than via a French Press, it is so very nice to indulge in this simple life pleasure outside of my own kitchen... I would be terribly remiss if I didn't give a shout out to the staff-from the exceedingly professional and courteous staff, to the bartender who was very engaging and free with her smiles all night, the professionals preparing our dinner, who deserve much credit for turning Chefs' vision into delicious and intruiging plates of food for all of us to enjoy, and finally to Chef Nicole, who is everywhere making sure everything is running as smooth as possible, yet taking the time to chat with the patrons whenever possible. Our trips to Stalk are almost a pilgrimage-a reminder that cooking can be a joy, and that striving for that goal of making the diner perhaps, through the care and excellence of the food and its preparation, make them forget the nonsense outside the walls of the restaurant for even just an hour or so. This a lofty and noble goal, and one, for this diner, is always met. I hope it is for you, as well

It wasn't my preferred type of beer, but I found it tasty and refreshing. The next morning at breakfast at a restaurant in town, there were small signs on the table for their beers. So that afternoon, I went to Liar's Bench for lunch. I appreciate the messages the universe had sent me. Apart from a challenge getting parking at lunchtime, with several spots in the lot reserved for nearby Murray's Plumbing, there's much to like about Liar's Bench (and that's no lie). The beer selection is varied enough that I was able to get a very satisfying flight. My local friend had suggested I order whatever was the chef's special of the day (which today was a specialty burger), but we instead opted for the BBQ platter for 2, with a large amount of pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and Texas toast. We sat at the bar and had great service and conversation. I can see why this is a popular lunch destination. Another bonus for me is that Liar's Bench is the closest brewery to a hotel at which I often stay when I'm in Portsmouth, making this a new destination for me when I'm in the area.
