We finally got ourselves out of the house and to a Sunday brunch. And it was a good one too. Reservations seemed like a must given the small-ish size of this spot. But we were able to snag a reservation morning of. It's a super cute spot. Feels like you're inside someone's house almost. It's on the smaller side, but it's got a bright and clean aesthetic. It gives some Instagram-able vibes. Our server was good, despite it seeming like she was both making all the drinks and servicing all of the tables downstairs (a lot for one person). The menu has a good mix of sweet and savory options, breakfast items and more lunch-like items. There were also a couple of specials. A good amount of choices, but not an overwhelming amount (the just right amount). I opted for the eggs benedict, which was quite tasty. Perfectly poached eggs and crispy bacon with a delicious old bay hollandaise sauce. And it was very filling. The espresso martini was great. The Bloody Mary was a big disappointment. They also offer bottomless mimosas and bottomless bacon. All in all, a nice experience. I'm looking forward to coming back here for happy hour and/or dinner. read more

Celebrating my sister's birthday at this brunch spot. We were a party of 9. There was only one chef so the wait for food was pretty lengthy but he was very sweet and apologetic about it. The general consensus of the group was that the food was decent, it was just disappointing how long it took and how all parts of your meal came out at different times. I ordered the Classic French toast which I enjoyed the taste however it was bit on the charred side, which I think was due to the chef rushing. The latte was enjoyable and I'd recommend getting one if you're a coffee drinker, it's not on the sweet side just fyi. The side of fruit is very fresh as well. We came here for a birthday brunch. We sat upstairs and had a more private seating, which was nice. Overall the place isn't big, the music is quiet and it's great for talking with friends. The food was very tasty. There was only one chef while we were dining (he came out to tell us this). Because of this, the food came out sporadically for our party of 9. And it did take a while to get the food. People in my party complained that the pancakes & French toast tasted burnt. Our service was very nice considering the size of our party. Stopped by for a quick after work happy hour drink. The staff is friendly and quick to provide service. The truffle fries are a tad bit salty but crispy and full of flavor. The Happy Hour Drink prices are great and have a good variety of spirit offerings and good combinations. Before we ordered, we were told that new menu items were added recently, so that was exciting, as I'm always enticed by newly added food. The portion size can be underwhelming for the carbonara menu item, but boy was it delicious. The pork chops had a nice char on it and came with Parmesan fries. I was skeptical about the apple sauce but it worked out really well. The ambiance on the first floor is lovely and has a great sense of class and sophistication, my favorite being the wine wall. Service was great and I never felt like I had to flag someone for help. We were well taken care of by a dude with glasses (cannot remember his name) that worked around 7pm on Sep 27th. He had great insight on which items would live up to our expectations - it's always a plus when restaurant staff can advise their customers after having tasted a variety of things that are sold. read more

A great Easter brunch was had at Cynthia's. For our first dining experience we ordered the breakfast burger and the chicken and waffles. For someone who can't do a crazy amount of spice the spice level of the chicken was perfect - just enough to enjoy and appreciate the heat but not so much that my mouth was on fire. I visited Cynthia for brunch with a group of friends on a Saturday at 1pm. When we arrived we were seated right away. I loved the floor to ceiling exposed brick, hanging plants and abstract art. The restaurant has about 10 tables and a bar for approximately 8 on the bottom floor and about 6 tables on the second floor. We were seated on the first floor at a half booth/table with a street view and our server Nick came right over. Most of the table went with the bottomless mimosa option while I chose a prosecco. For food 3/4 chose the hot honey chicken and waffles and one person chose the eggs Benedict and bottomless bacon. I also ordered a side of eggs with cheese. Everything came out within 15 minutes and it was perfection. The fired chicken was smothered in Siracha and it was fried until it was golden and crispy. The waffle came with hot honey and was absolutely amazing. The bacon was fresh hot and just like what in the world ... bottomless!!!! The service was attentive, friendly and really made us feel at home. We stayed and chatted well after we finished eating a few girls even ordered coffee. I will definitely be back for dinner sometime soon. I highly recommend Cynthia if you are looking to try Brunch or Dinner in the area! read more

Went for brunch and it was really good! I ordered the prosciutto benedict and I enjoyed it. One of my eggs had a bit of egg shells in it which I didn't really like but the hollandaise sauce was good. My boyfriend got the blueberry and bourbon french toast and that was delicious. I wanted to do the bottomless bacon but $20 for bacon seems a bit pricey to me. I did get just a regular side of bacon for $7 and that was good. Still overpriced to me. Service was excellent. My server came by often to make sure I was good frequently. Super cozy 2 story restraint right on the corner of H St. Phil, our server, was working all alone on a relatively busy night - he acted as host, bar tender, server, food runner, table busser, and waiter. Despite his many hats and tables, he was cool calm be collected and did a great job at enhancing our experience, giving great recommendations, checking in, and putting on a show at the bar. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts, that were perfectly tossed in hot honey. The burger was beyond good, perfectly cooked and topped with a delicious spiced tomato jam. Was walking by and happened to glance over and see a warm, welcoming little bistro decorated for the holidays. Ended up going inside and sitting at the bar for happy hour. Bar tender was very kind and the food was excellent. Happy hour prices were fabulous and included snacks as well as meals. My new favorite spot in town! I need to tell you what someone should have told us before we dined here: there is a new chef, and whatever Cynthia used to be, it is no longer. Alas, we made reservations based on the old reviews. That was a mistake. I think you can pretty safely ignore any review prior to March 2025. Long story short, it was a bad meal. Basic bruschetta featured soft warm (not toasted) bread and huge Safeway-quality tasteless cherry tomatoes. I really didn't think anyone could mess up bruschetta, but apparently I was wrong. Steak frites was served especially rare, notwithstanding that one of us requested it medium after being advised of the chef's bloody proclivities. No matter: medium or medium-rare, we received the same very rare and very unremarkable steak. The frites were excellent, perhaps because they were made from potatoes rather than the casava described on the menu. The accompanying pro-forma arugula salad was marred by the reappearance of the aforementioned cherry tomatoes. Cocktail was excellent. Service was really wonderful and friendly. Would not want to eat the food again, however, especially at that price point. read more

When I tell you I have never had better service in my LIFE! It was spectacular! My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and we were met with the sweetest, most genuine people ever. The owner came and was cracking jokes with us, the servers were too-- cannot stress enough how welcome they make you feel. Also, I always choose restaurants for the aesthetic, but even with the amazing ambiance, the food was delicious! Do yourself a favor and order the Brussels Sprouts. On the west side of H Street NE in the former space of a French restaurant is Irregardless, a two-level restaurant and wine bar serving seasonal plates and wine from Virginia (and beyond). The owners met at University of Virginia's law school and are passionate about bringing Virginian wine to the District. My buddy and I stopped by for drinks on a Tuesday evening. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks only. The bartender was very cool and knows her wines, cocktails and beers. She made my friend an excellent negroni. Their wine is on the drier side, but I loved Early Mountain Vineyard's white. Their hard cider with plums was dry, but excellent as well. I can't wait to return for dinner! read more

We had a lovely dinner here last night. The setting is a big plus. It feels very open & very classy. The plants hanging over our heads, where we were sitting, added a sense of closeness to nature + the paintings on the walls gave a sense of sophistication. We started our meal by sharing an order of brussel sprouts. They were very flavorful & tasty, & the portion was huge. My husband had the beef pasta dish for his entree & was very happy with it. I had the lamb belly special, which I loved. It had a strong charred flavor that I liked very much. It came with carrots & a creamy sauce. Yum! We also had chocolate mousse for dessert. My only disappointment was that they didn't have any draft beer. Yeh, this is probably a minor point, but I would have loved a cold draft beer with my meal. We plan to head back here soon! read more

Ok, I'm not going to lie, I already didn't love it because of the name...and I know they knew what they were doing but I still don't love it haha, but I finally went to check it out and I am not a fan. The best way I can describe this place is that it must be haunted by cats. You know when there's a place that's been flipped...and it's all bougie, but you knew what it was like before that?? It's kind of like that but with cats...like it's in the ventilation. You can smell it. Anyways, haunted cats aside, we each got a drink, an entrée, and we shared one appetizer and our bill was $130 and we left hungry...so, I would never go back there. So you're telling me there's a place in DC that showcases and serves stellar local (VA) wine and offers incredible small dishes to compliment the wine? Damn straight. The team here rolls out the red carpet for their guests. They called us in advance to check on any dietary restrictions and when we showed up, they pulled out a special menu noting all the accommodations. On that list, we choose to start with the Brussels and asparagus. Finger lickin' good, and I don't find many occasions where I describe veggies that way. Moved on to the ceviche next - massive portion with meaty char. Another hit. But my favorite part of Irregardless had to be all the local wines they offered, bottle and glasses. Started with a Glen Manor rose and topped it off with a pet nat from a winery down in Charlottesville. The staff were extremely well versed in the options and shared back story on each. I could have spent all night long here. They just launched happy hour so maybe that'll be my game plan next time read more

I really wanted to love this place, but it just missed the mark for me. Maybe we came too close to their opening and the kinks had not been worked out yet, but for a $300 meal, I wanted more of an experience and I left pretty dissatisfied with the overall dining experience. We did the tasting menu and from start to finish, my table was there for just over 3 hours. The time between the courses were inconsistent and we were often waiting long after we finished our previous course to get the next one. We were seated about 20 minutes late, which they did apologize for and even gave us a glass of prosecco while we waited. They did bring me the wrong drink and fixed it immediately without ay questions. I did appreciate that. The food was delicious, but in my opinion, nothing to return for for the price. read more

I ventured out to Irregardless with a close friend to try their Winter Tasting Menú! Needless to say, Irregardless hit the spot on all marks. The server was joyful, made us feel welcomed and spoke clearly and confidently when it came to the menu options. The restaurant felt like you were in an intimate cafe where sound didn't travel far. Though we were close to other patrons, it was not loud and conversation was easy to have. The food was delicious. Every course was solid when it came to quality of flavor, quantity of food, and timeliness of arrival to the table. The lamb ragú and the short rib were so perfect prepared that I would go for just those. The dessert was good, but not amazing, which is ok. The cheesecake would've been better cold in my opinion. The wine pairing for this meal was great except for the dessert wine (which was disgustingly sweet) and the wine paired with the short rib. I would say that the red wine that came with the short rib was the worst red I've ever drank sadly. Without the pairing disasters, I would rate Irregardless and 9.2/10. With the pairing, I would give them an 8.5! read more

Would definitely return for a date night, the establishment feels very cozy and the staff are super friendly and helpful. We visited this new restaurant about a month or so after it opened. This is a high quality food addition to H Street NE (much needed) with a nice vibe inside and friendly staff. We opted for the Omnivore Tasting Menu which we were happy with. Definitely enough food for the hungry diner given that the pasta dish is generous even before the main course. * Gazpacho - this amuse bouche shot that starting things off was so good that I could have had a whole bowl of it. Crouton inside too. Just perfect. * Crudo - a bit busy and way too oily. Not sure why all the oil. Disappointed, but this was the only real miss tonight. * Figs - delicious dish...and I usually dislike figs. Wonderful flavor profiles. * Scallop Schnitzel - interesting take on scallops. Enjoyable. * Lamb Ragu Pappardelle - very nice * Short Rib Bourguignon - everything on the plate was wonderful. Meat fell off the bone. Comfort deliciousness. * Dessert - I'd skip the apple/almond tart unless you really love apples or fruit pies. Go with the sweet ricotta. Tip: I wish they would have brought out the cocktails we ordered before taking our food order. They're still pretty new though. We'll be back. read more

Irregardless has a great concept - create a menu of small plates that feature mostly vegetarian options and make them so tasty that you would never miss the meat.  Unfortunately, on the evening we were there, the kitchen must have been slammed as all the tables were filled and everyone was ordering at the same time.  The result was that all our food came out cool or just barely warm.  This is fine, and probably even on purpose for some of the dishes, but, for others, it was really off putting.  Besides the fact that the wonderful aromas that arise from a hot plate of good food greatly enhance one's sense of flavor, having a course be tepid rather than hot can lead to some unpleasant textures.  This was a true shame because we really enjoyed our first course of poireaux vinaigrette.  With the leeks and mustard, capers and gherkins, it had a great tang without being acidic and was a comforting plate.  The grilled octopus had a great char and was also good and not at all chewy.  The little potato looked like a trompe l-oeil scallop.  We wished the sauce was stronger though.  Again, the food was just barely warm The porcini chou farci was disappointing because, even though it had truffles, it was pretty bland. And, once again, the food was lukewarm at best.   We next had the lambchops which again were tepid.  The best part of the dish was the pickled artichoke side.  The dessert, a gateaux Nantais had a great rum flavor but an odd, sandy like and dry texture.   The drink we ordered, the taken for granate also had very flavorful liquor but we missed the pomegranate, spiced pear and lime.  Those ingredients seemed to provide the pretty color but other than that, were fairly absent.  The chili powder on the side of the glass did add a nice bit of heat.  The décor at Irregardless is homey and warm with lots of brick, wood and hanging plants.  The colorful murals, apparently, predate the restaurant and it is fun to contemplate what they were back when they were originally painted.  The staff was very friendly, helpful and efficient.  I don't know why none of our food was hot.  I don't know if that was intentional or just a problem that evening.  It is really unfortunate because it had a truly negative impact on our dinner. read more

Two story and inviting space with exposed bricks, plants from the ceiling, open and expansive ambiance. There were plenty of vegetarian options and the portions were perfect for two people sharing. The beet dip was earthy and the peanuts added an unexpected but delightful twist. The cheddar croquettes were light but filling and the sauce was a nice tangy accompaniment. The Brussels sprouts were really well roasted and seasoned. I probably would not order the pierogi again, it was well prepared and the sauce was good but didn't have the pow the other dishes had. I think the biggest surprise was the mushroom ice cream, it tasted just like maple syrup and the cream and meringue were so amazing. I was very skeptical but so glad I tried it. By far, the best part of Irregardless was the service. Paige is a top notch server. We also enjoyed the ambiance which felt very warm and casual. But the food just fell short. With one drink each and no dessert, our tab for two ran $228 after tax and tip. A bit high for what we experienced. We spent that much earlier this month at Jose Andres' new Bazaar in the Waldorf, which offers an entire world above Irregardless in terms of food, ambiance, and dining experience. We are also presented with a laminated card upon seating as to why the 20% gratuity is added. It's so odd when restaurants do this, like they're saying "we value our staff so much! But not enough to pay them ourselves; rather, we'll dig into your wallet." No harm to me as I'd have tipped that much anyway. Apparently Irregardless just had a change in Executive Chef - a bit surprising after only 6 months operating. Many of the types of dishes we had been eyeing going into the evening were swapped out for the new Canadian chef's maple-infused (literally) preferences. Which were fine, but lacked a lot of depth. Breadfurst Bread: Something like a toasted focaccia. But as someone who makes his own foccacia, this tasted day-old rather than fresh. Quebec Cheddar Croquettes: Decent flavor, but lacked texture and were a bit of a mushy bite. Not bad. Scallop Crudo: The worst dish we had, we left half of it on the plate. Just an odd combination of flavors and the acidity from the vinegar was overpowering. Endive and Cosmic Apple Salad - If there was actually ricotta on this as described, we couldn't identify it. This was a lovely fresh apple salad, but was lacking a deeper flavor profile. Brussels Sprouts - Excellent and perhaps the best dish we had, lots of flavor and a subtle smokiness. Pierogi - For $27, I expected more from this dish of 4 pierogi than some sauce and shaved fennel. They stuffed the pierogi with a couple kinds of cheese and it was just lacking something, maybe heat or maybe a salty addition like a meat of some kind. Coming from Alexandria, NoMA is a hike to get to. At this price point, there are dozens of places I'd prefer to have gone whether at the Wharf, Georgetown, or a number of other DC neighborhoods that are closer and simply offer better food and experience. read more
