Dear friends: I just want to recommend a business to you in San Diego and tell you why. The name of the business is Cyrus auto sales in Kearny Mesa. I first met the owner Dan about six years ago. When I was looking for a Prius. I realized he was a wonderful human being, but he didn't have the car in his lot that I was looking for and subsequently bought elsewhere. My daughter Casey also bought a Prius elsewhere but a few months into her purchase had a problem with the battery , I remembered Dan and took the car to him $600 later Casey had essentially a brand new lithium battery installed in her Prius. Those are the ones that you've heard can cost to $3000. He did it for $600 (replacing only bad cells)and the car ran beautifully. A couple of days ago my Prius started making the most God awful noise and shuttered to beat the band. I had an appointment in El Centro and asked a mechanic down there to look at it and he said it's in the engine. We're gonna have to get a new engine for you if you want to do that it'll be about $1500, 2500 to 3000 installed. I started looking for a new car and then I remembered Dan. I took the car in to Dan told him my tail of whoa. The car has now been driven 150 miles with this banging. Dan said I'll have my mechanic look at it and see what we can do. He said I would not put a new engine in it. It's too expensive not really cost-effective if I can fix it I will. If not, I will tell you . Today ( I took it in yesterday ) I'm picking up my car today for a total price of $300. My issue resolved. This review is 8 months over due. WARNING: if you ever want to get a used car through Cyrus Autosales, it pays to go to Toyota San Diego and speak to the manager there. Though you've to fork money out to have them do a safety/pre-buyers inspection on the car. If I had done that, I wouldn't have bought this car from this dealership at all. Dan passed off the visual inspection sheet from Toyota as a safety inspection sheet. That in itself is FRAUD and something that I actually consulted an auto fraud lawyer about. For starters , when I got my car and took it to AAA less than 12 hours after picking up and paying $10,200 for the car, it was leaking coolant and 2 error codes- one for the 12 volt and the other for the engine came up. Dan CLAIMED that the AAA auto repair shop I went to didn't know what they were doing. The window gears were also noisy and parts of the cars rubber were melted due to heat damage. The dash screen was also very brown due to heat damage. A Toyota estimate to fix that screen was between $1500-4000. Dan replaced the melted hatch back handle and fixed the leaking coolant but didn't address the noisy gears or the error codes. To compound issues, within 3 weeks of buying the car, my combination meter started malfunctioning. This happens when the combination meter blacks out (the part that shows speeds and hazard lights) and you are not able to turn your car on and off. Over the next 3 weeks it got so bad to the point that I could not drive the car to classes as it would not turn off. Dan OFFERED TO FOOT PART OF A BACK ALLEY FIX WITH A Junkyard Prius' COMBINATION METER. I refused as that would alter the odometer and have no guarantees of an actual fix. As such I ended up having to tow my car to Toyota San Diego for service. Turns out the same error codes pulled up by AAA were pulled up by Toyota. My coolant valve was not properly supplying my engine with coolant and that's why my engine light kept coming up and one of the two error codes was for that. At that point I couldn't drive my car anymore as it would not even turn on. The other error code was because my 12 Volt was fried and needed to be replaced. In the process of Toyota replacing my combination meter, most of the frames holding my aircon vents crumbled and they had to replace all the vents. To sum it up, within 6 weeks of purchasing my car, I had to spend almost $1800 just to make this car safe to drive. I also found out that I overpaid for the car as when I tried to sell the car to Carmax even after fixing all the problems, they only offered me a paltry $5k for everything. I was told by the manager that they wouldn't sell my car for more than $8k (vs the $10,200 I paid). As such, I have decided to retain this car even with more potential problems due to the car's poor maintenance prior to me buying it. He also sold me a regular Prius control instead of a smart key which is what my car uses. If he were truly that "Prius expert" he calls himself, surely he would not have sold me the wrong key. I did return that key to him. Please be careful if you'd like to buy a used Prius from him. Don't let these nice reviews fool you. This review is soooo overdue. If you are looking for a used Prius - this is your place. I am so impressed by Dan (the owner) that I will never look anywhere else when looking for a used car. In fact, I have sent friends over to him as he is the most honest car dealer you will ever find. I went looking for a used Prius after I found Dan on Yelp. I went there and he gave me all the information I needed. I knew I would be back for a Prius. The one I really wanted had 135,000 miles on it, and I was nervous with that mileage (it was a 2010 though which I really liked). Dan actually let me borrow the car for a couple days to make sure I really wanted it (seriously, can you believe that?). He also asked me to take it Toyota and get it inspected. He had actually already had it inspected, but it was a new car of his (he had just bought it from auction), so he had not driven it enough to feel right about selling it to me. He likes to drive his cars 500 miles before selling them. I took it to Toyota and it was perfect (literally all that was wrong was that a windshield wiper blade needed to be replaced). I went back to Dan and bought the car, satisfied with my decision. Fast forward 2 weeks later...I got the bright "check hybrid battery light." Freaking out, I called Dan right away because I knew he would know what to do. He told me to bring it in (I had it towed because I was worried after googling) and he told me that he would fix it. Mind you, I bought this car "as is" and Dan did not owe me anything after the date of sale. Still, Dan so kindly checked everything out for me and changed my whole battery (at no cost to me). He said he did not feel right unless he did that as I just bought the car 2 weeks before. Dan is the most honest car dealer you will ever meet and he did not need to do what he did for me. He is such a good person and you will see that when you meet him. Dan, I owe you so much. You are an amazing person, with such a kind heart. Thank you for all that you did for me! We fell in love with our new used 2003 Mazda Protege 5 "Mini Bee" (okay, so we name our cars, yeah, yeah!) on CraigsList. When I called to speak with Dan this morning, he asked me if I was "the lady who called earlier that morning?" I said, "No, that wasn't me." I asked if the 2003 Mazda Protege 5 was still there, and he said yes, but he'd had about 15 phone calls on it today. It was 10:50 a.m. I was in a state of panic. We were way up in Oceanside, and you know I-5 and Saturdays don't mix. It took us an hour to arrive, and the minute we saw the car, we fell hard. Dan was sweet and kind, firm on his price, but the car was worth it. We didn't spend more than 30 minutes before we hopped in the rental to the credit union, only to find they didn't loan on cars past 2004 year. We freaked!! The gal helping us suggested trying Navy Federal Credit Union, and since my son-in-law was a member there, we were able to be sponsored and get in. On the phone as we rushed over with 40 mins. to spare before they closed at 2 pm, I did all the legwork for the new accounts and loan. We arrived and saw Deanna at the Black Mtn. branch, and she whipped us through the process, staying 40 mins. late for us. We left with an approved loan and check in hand, had some lunch and took deep breaths. Then we scooted back over to buy our new little Mini Bee. What a great, exciting, exhausting day, in which Dan was kind and understanding, and shared in our excitement. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts, and can't wait to have adventures in this peppy little great-handling car. What a joyful addition to our family, though it's just the two of us, our grandkids will love it, too. Husband Bob will drive it to work 70 miles a day, and with the very visible bright yellow of it, he's sure to be seen in commuter traffic easily. Thanks again, great doing business with you! I have really bad credit and thanks to them I was able to walk away with a car and not just a car but the payments are pretty low as well. That is something that I am happy about. The two stars are for the guys who work at Cyrus; they are very personable and easy to do business with. I only went $160 over budget - Not bad. The missing three stars are for the apparent quality of merchandise at Cyrus Auto. Two days after purchase, I noticed a headlight was out - Not a big deal. I took the car to my regular mechanic to install a new bulb for me during a safety check. The safety check revealed transmission service needed and front struts leaking, which probably causes the rattling/grinding noise that the guy at Cyrus Auto assured me was a mere auditory side effect of the engine being in such proximity to the driver. All told, the repairs will cost me $800. I say 'will' cost rather than 'did' cost because, after going over budget by $160 to purchase the car, it will be a good many months before I have another $800 scraped together for repairs. A reasonable person expects to find latent maladies in a used car; that's the gamble we take to purchase a personal vehicle at lower cost. I just believe $800-worth of fixing up to be excessive. My hindsight advice would be this: Be sure to have a mechanic you trust complete a full safety check WITHIN the 24-hour period you have to cancel your purchase. That way, if the repairs needed are too extreme or too costly, you can return the car or at least present the repair estimate to support a re-negotiation of price. read more

I don't recommend to buy any car from this car dealer ship. I both a prius four months ago and the head gasket showed problems already after the first five hundred miles. They use head gasket sealers like "blue devil" to fix temporary the cheap damaged cars that they buy from the lowest class car actions. I know that it is a risk to buy a used car but this place gives it completely knew definition of risk. Is is not 50% more likely %90. I went here with the illusion that I was going to a place that specializes in selling good quality Prius Hybrid cars. I showed up with my girlfriend and test drove a few of the cars on the lot. I was "taken care" of by Amir. The owners nephew. There were two cars that I liked and one had lesser mileage. Amor kept insisting I should choose that one because of the mileage and because he said he personally has driven it and likes it for himself. I asked for the car fax and he stumbled through some papers but didn't show it to me. I asked if the car had been in any accidents and he said no. The car had some concerns and he said my uncle will fix it just bring it back. Well the following day after spending 13500 dlls on the 2015 Prius. It started to give me issues. I noticed the front end and driver side fender had been painted previously. I immediately called Amir and told him why he had lied to me he said he had an inspector review it and they couldn't find any damage to the car yet I can see the pint drip and and the bumper is loose kind of hangs a little. I looked over the false Toyota inspection report he gave me and noticed how everything was checked off. I then took it to my mechanic who found multiple things wrong. I called Amir and no answer for a few days I didn't get an answer until Carmen from next door said to take it in and the mechanic and owner would fix it. So I take it in and the mechanic tells me it need brake pads and rotors and also something with the swing arm and steering wheel. But it had to get approved by the owner three days later and me being persistent the owner tells me to take it to him and apologizes. I asked for the car fax and nothing. I told him his employee lied to me in order to sell me the car and he said he just wanted to make his commission. Now the right thing would have been to offer me my money back. But instead he says he will fix the issues it has. I leave the car thinking he is going to take care of the issues his mechanic pointed out. Turns out he changed the brake pads and that's it!!! The car makes a scratching sound when braking. After he fixed it the car now shakes when charging the battery and the brakes sound terrible when pulling up to a stop sign. I called the owner and sent him a video and now I am ignored. Don't go here. No ethic, no professionalism, they only care about the sale. Like he said they just wanted to make a commission. The owner should have made things right and returned my money being that I was lied and cheated out of 13500. Update!!!! The owner did the right thing and refunded me my money. He knew that I was given a bad deal. He offered me a different vehicle from his lot but I chose to get my money back and try my luck elsewhere. read more

One star only because he was friendly the first time I came in. I bought a truck here 3 months ago (Oct 2018) Cyrus let me know I would receive the title and registration within 6 weeks, but it never came. So I called and let him know, he said sorry and he would mail the registration and contact the dmv to mail me the title the next day. (Dec2018)Fast forward two more weeks and still nothing. So I call him again (Jan 10, 2019) and this time he lets me know the policy has changed...3 months ago ( this is when I bought the truck) and he only found out now. So I had to come all the way here today (1/11), I live about half an hour away, so he could take my truck to the dmv and get a vin verification so that he can get me my title and registration. And when I asked why he hadn't let me know sooner, he right away had attitude and said he just found and that's all he can do. He can't do anything else for me. And im pretty sure he was smoking in my car when he took it, because when he came back and I got in, it smelled of cigarettes. If I ever need to buy another car, it definitely won't be from here. I got the sense that he very much wanted to make sure I got the car that I really wanted and was happy with it, without any pressure to buy. 5 stars for a car dealership?! Talk about crazy right? After my experience here, the guys don't deserve anything less! Overall, father and son duo Dan & Chris provide nothing but exceptional customer service! They are everything you'd want in a "salesman" because they are patient, laid-back, and very accommodating. The last thing you'd want is a pushy salesman since buying a car is a pretty big commitment and although they knew I was interested in a particular car for a week's period already (I visited their dealership twice before I committed to buying on my third visit), they didn't harass me via phone whatsoever in-between visits and left it to me to come in on my own terms. They were patient with me and I did not feel ashamed for taking up their time, which is not the case a lot of high-pressured dealerships for they would've passed me off the chain quickly if they couldn't sell me fast enough. In the end, I chose a 2007 gray Prius with 110k miles and although I was definitely hesitant about buying a high-mileage hybrid, Dan & Chris did a great job at calming my nerves by thoroughly educating me with their Prius knowledge and answering my questions fully. Like most individuals in the market for a used Prius, the biggest concern was the possibility of a main battery failure. The team advised me that they could fix it at a lower rate by swapping bad cells rather than replacing the whole unit if that was ever a concern in the future. Moreover, they provided me with the Carfax history report (super clean - my car was appraised at $1300 above KBB value) alongside an official Toyota dealership inspection report. Everything on the inspection report was categorized as either green (okay) , yellow (may need attention), or red (requires immediate attention). In the case of every vehicle they prepare, they do their best to get everything in the "green/ okay" category before it leaves their lot! This shows a commitment to customer service personally for although the cars are stickered "as-is", it may as well be sold "Cyrus-Certified" haha. All in all, I will shamefully admit I was not the easiest customer to please, so props to them for keeping cool with my meticulous demands! I honestly was not happy with the body of the car I was interested in and after running through my reservations, Chris completely understood where I was coming from and went above and beyond to accommodate my concerns. Kudos for keeping cool since a lot of dealers would've just let me walk away at that point. (& honestly he could have cared less and let me walk for there were several interested buyers who wanted to see the car as well and it would have definitely sold same-day if I didn't take it). Nonetheless, it was a pleasure working with them (as pleasant as dealerships go lol) and I would highly recommend them to all my family and friends personally for their honest and hardworking values! I bought a 2004 Toyota Prius after 6 months I had problems with the battery, Dan charged me $340.00 to fix it, after 3 weeks the battery again, the point is that he never fixed the car and I over paid for this car $6000.00, I strongly recommend you to check everything before to buy a car here, I replaced the battery with 2 years guaranty and the guys told me that the battery replaced was not the original for the car and only has 117K miles means that they do a lot of tricks with the cars, I trusted on them but I'm very disappointed. read more

Typical used car salesman stuff-- don't expect much after you hand over your cash. For one, I never got the items promised on my service due bill after 3 visits and many calls-- he kept saying "come back later, I'll order the parts today". Windshield wiper flew off on the highway the first time I used it. Brake light didn't work, as was listed "GOOD" on the inspection sheet. Took 6 weeks and multiple calls just to get my license plate bracket put on. All in all, the additional maintenance on car is costing much more than I expected, since the guy said he would take care of it. read more

They had a good deal on a clean used Prius with low miles (I saw it on craigslist). I'd been looking for a Prius for awhile so I called them up, I'm from LA so I wanted to make sure it was exactly what I wanted before I drove 2hrs. They told me it was in great condition and sent me a lot of pics. I then asked if they could take it to the local Toyota dealer and if it checked out I would buy it. I drove out in the afternoon test drove it and bought it. I never like used car dealers, but this was a good experience. Given that this was my first Prius purchase, it was great receiving guidance from Dan who is a true expert on all aspects of the vehicle. I enjoyed my experience with Cyrus Autos. I especially appreciate the low and no haggle pricing approach. The transaction wasn't perfect. There were some mis-communications and a minor paperwork error along the way, but over all I think these guys are alright. Please read the entire post! I was looking for a second vehicle for the family. I was set on a Prius for a number of reasons. In my research on line, I came across Cyrus Auto Sales and the many great reviews it had received. So I gave them a call. Dan, the owner was extremely pleasant and gracious on the phone. I discussed my mediocre credit and financial situation with him and what I could afford for monthly payment. A while passed and when I made my second call, he still remembered me and my exact situation. He encouraged me to go down and see him and not be too concerned with the details and that he would try to put me in a reliable car that I could afford. When I went to the dealership I found him and his finance manager humble, honest and genuinely caring. There was no fast talking pressure or salesmanship involved. Just genuine care. I honestly felt like a family member and at home. They tried very very hard to find me financing at the lowest possible rate in spite of my credit worthiness. They picked me a car that suited my budget and my needs very well and got me financed. When I took the car home, couple of minor issues came up. They were always receptive, communicative and eager to resolve the issue. In one instance on a Saturday morning, the busiest day for his car lot, Dan drove 40 minutes with one of his aids to address the problem I had with my car. He told me not to worry and that in the worst case scenario he will put me in a different car. He provided me with a loaner until my car was fixed to his satisfaction and met his superior standards. Every time I call Dan or meet him in person, he is polite, gracious, low key and knowledgeable. In these cynical and distrusting times, meeting people like Dan and his finance manager is a breath of fresh air and really comforting and heartwarming, I truly feel that I did more just buy a car but found two new valuable friends. Please go and see them and get yourself a Prius. You will not be disappointed. Believe me! I am not one to praise or put these kind of posts up very easily. But my experience with Cyrus Auto Sales compels me to do so. It is only fair and I found myself ethically obliged and very pleased to have written these few words about these wonderful people. read more
