I used to go there especially christmas. This year is total disappointment!!!! The Apple turnover was Not flakey pastry like it should be. It was like a cookie dough. The Italian clamshell were awful - hardly any filling and hard. The lemon cookies were absolutely terrible - they had a foul taste. The butter had no butter flavor. I like to call this place the bakery for everyone! They have tres leches, they have kosher, they have crema, they have Italian cookies. Everything! The staff is also super sweet and fast. The spot is small with only one table but they pack a lot into one place. Thus far I've had their rolls (so fresh and doughy and delicious) along with their croissants (sweet but good) and a few other goodies. Bought pastry's there a day ago spent a good amount money lots of pastry's plus empandas,plus cheese cake never had a problem in this place, but I had mold in lots of the pastry's and I went back with my receipt and the picture and the lady who took my order her answer that's not ours knowing she did my order she charge my order I was really disgusted with the whole thing there customer service very bad .I will never set a foot in there again I will never buy there again neither my family or friends and co workers . D & D Bake Shop is a 30 yr old bakery located in a small older strip center, in South Farmingdale, just minutes north of Southern Pkwy, West of Rte 110. I have likely passed it by many times not noticing it until just recently. Thanks Laura - for your 1st to review .. and for pointing me toward D & D Bake Shoppe. I knew this would be an interesting review.. for one thing I phoned to check if they were open in bad weather last week, and the person wasn't interested in my bad connection and seemed a bit old school on the phone. None of this Yelping where, what, when was to be had. etc. lol. So here I am, pulled up today to check it out! Secondly it is now a multicultural bake shop including a variety of items to serve the community. On the sign, they make it clear, they carry what you may be looking for. French, Jewish, Spanish, Italian Bakery. Hmmmmmmmmmmm... now you have my attention. We'll see, but I can tell one thing.. I am feeling mostly Italian is still the basic tenet here. Inside, a variety of colorful fresh looking cakes rotating in a glass case, and a fresh array of bakery. Cookies, pies, babka, pasteries, soda breads etc. Cookies a bit light in color and sprinked etc.. one S shaped biscuit like cookie with, powdered sugar caught my eye, like grandma used to make.. hmm.. So basic but good, but of course not grandma's. They also carried NY style, Italian & Hungarian cheese cake. Good looking chocolate babka with some cherries inside. Mm. Photos tell the story. Btw, my photos were not appreciated, so I limited them to the few I took. Or would have taken more. So the babka qualifies for Jewish Bakery? It would stand up well if brought anywhere. Then there it was, Tres Leches, the same odd bland cake I found in two Columbian bakeries.. Surprise surprise, this was the best Tres Leche I have tried, and now I am officially converted. If you haven't liked it's blandness before, now is the time to try again.. I think I tasted a hint.. and I mean hint of lemon, and the icing soft and marshmellowy.. all in all, it was something I wish I brought more of. Sold in pieces($6) or by the cake ($28), one piece was a bit bigger than the Columbian places. But soooo much better. German bakeries have such a knack, but Italian's take the cake. hmm. Irish Soda bread looked good so why not... but had to photograph it at home. Despite a concern over my taking a few Yelp friendly photos, they remained courteous and let me leave with my snacks. Yes, I risked my quickly wearing out welcome, for my fellow yelpers. Kept true to finding and sharing cool places with my friends. They have many kinds of desserts and I always go here they are always delicious but one time had I gotten a tres leche cake and the center was very good and moist but the outer edges of the cake was a little dry. Other than that one time it's always been 10/10. The workers are quite attentive and help pretty fast. Though I get lucky and usually am the only one there so it's in and out! read more

I like this bakery since I was a kid! But after yesterday I had churros, a pan dulce with leche and piña and when I open the bag the piña ones are really good but the leche ones are poorly made and the filling wasn't creamy enough and it felt like I was eating cardboard. I then noticed that one of the pan dulce with leche had mold in them and I was pretty much disappointed in that. I had to throw them out immediately. Other than that I love their churros. read more

So this place is where sterling caterers gets their wedding cakes. There are a million bakeries in long island that can do a much better job than this place. They suck soooo bad when it comes to cakes. First, we went there with a cake picture to see if they could do it. They reassured us they could. It wasnt a hard cake. All it required was buttercream flowers to be piped on. The rest of the cake was actually very simple. They reassured us a few times that it was simple enough for them to do, so we ordered it. We had to pay $75 additional for the cake bc it required additional work... fair enough. Day of the wedding, cake arrives at the venue. It is beyond hideous. The piping looks amateur and is extra thick. The cake looks like a triangle and not a three layered cake bc the flowers are piped on so thick that you cannot differentiate the layers. It looks like someone made it quickly at home. The flowers actually fell off at one point. The guests even asked about the poor quality of the cake. Dont waste your time getting a cake here. My husband and I went with D&D Bakery to make our wedding cake for our reception after getting a recommendation from our hall. We live in Queens, NY and drove out to Farmingdale to meet them. The bakery smelled AMAZING! We did not have an appointment with them, but they were still accommodating with us and let us do a cake tasting the same day. I was surprised that they did not have different cake flavors - they just change the filling in the cake based on the order. Nonetheless, the cake tasting went well, and we chose a French cream + strawberry combo. On the day of the event, they delivered the cake on-time. Unfortunately, my husband and I were running around at our reception and only got to taste a bite of the cake, but our guests seemed to have enjoyed the cake! I am giving them 3 stars for two main reasons. First, they gave me a mini heart attack right before my reception. I was told to call the week of the event to confirm my cake order. I placed the order in October and my event was in December. When I called the week of the event, they could not find my order! They asked me to come to their bakery and show them the receipt, which I honestly did not have time for living so far away and still having so many last minute things to do! They eventually found my order, but it definitely made me more nervous about their professionalism. It seemed like there were not so many people that could speak English there, so the language barrier made it difficult at times. Second, when we placed our order with the bakery, we showed them that we wanted the cake measurements to look like a wedding cake. We had other desserts being served at our reception, so we only wanted to go with a two-tier cake to avoid waste. But on the day of the wedding reception, what was presented to us was (in my mind) a fancy birthday cake. The dimensions of the tiers did not match what we wanted since we wanted it to look like a traditional two-tiered wedding cake. Both tiers were too wide. Another tier would have fixed this problem, but since we only wanted two, I was disappointed that the bakery made the cake look too wide for our liking. When taking pictures with the cake, I felt my heart drop because it really did not look like the cake I had imagined for my wedding. My mother ordered a birthday cake for my birthday. She had never been there before. They suggested she get the 8 inch vanilla cake chocolate mouse filling with chocolate frosting. It was absolutely delicious. Just the right blend of chocolate and sweetness. I was so fresh and perfect. I suggest you go there and specially order what you want and you will not be disappointed. D&D is a hit or miss mostly Italian bakery. For starters, always ask if the item you choose is very fresh, or you may get yesterdays stiffened canoli cream, custard cream & pastries. Love their cheese danish, slightly warmed & nice size, with a different, grittiness to the cheese, which is a welcome change. The cheese isn't thick but it covers the entire dnish so you get cheese in every bite. The Tres Leches cake is the best I've ever had-almost wet & so soft & creamy. One time I found a long white hair in it, actually embedded into the cake. YUCK! I wish they'd where hair nets! But, S... happens. Lastly, you must get there on Sundays, Mondays the latest, for fresh "San Guiseppe"-canoli or custard style cream stuffed into a flaky but not messy circular shell. And the "Lobster tail"-a "V" shaped italian layered shell stuffed with canoli cream. To die for! As for the custard found in a few items, like cream puffs, they have it all wrong. It is tasteless & makes you think the baker THINKS he knows custard, but no dice. Avoid anything custard. Oh, I forgot to mention the NY Cheesecake, as well as the Italian. The 1st is dense & creamy with a perfect flavor. The 2nd is as good as it gets, with a granular yet smooth & creamy texture & scrumptious Italian flavors! Buon appetito! read more

We have been going to this bakery for a few years now, primarily because of the Argentinean pastries that can only be had on the weekend. The alfajores are delectable and the croissants with dulce de leche are mouth watering good! The "elephant ears" are the best I've ever had, so incredibly crisp! The chocolate dulce de leche cake is outrageous & decently rich! The also sell Yerba Mate for those of you who love to drink mate! It's a little bit of Jackson Heights at our doorstep! I ordered the cake the day before the event. Paid it in full. They wrote on my order : whipped cream and fudge inside. White layer cake. Went back to pick up next day. Waited 48 minutes for them to come out and hand me a chocolate cake. When asked that's not what I ordered? I told them the birthday person specifically asked for whipped cream and didn't care what was inside. The owner shook his shoulders and said I couldn't get whipped cream. D & D Bake Shop may have delicious food and amazing cakes, but they leave a lot to be desired in satisfying their customers. I am going to a Chanukah dinner tonight(December 12) and the hostess requested that I bring rugelach. I remembered that D & D specializes in Jewish pastry(among other nationalities.) I asked them a week ago(December 2) if they carry rugelach and they said they did. I told them I needed it in a week and they said they make rugelach every day, but to call a day before to make sure they would have them. I took their card and called them yesterday(December 8). They said they would have the rugelach tomorrow. I asked if I should reserve it, and they said no, they always have it in stock. So Today I went in there about 10 AM and asked for a pound of rugelach. The server, a very nice woman, said they were making them and to come back in a few hours. I came back at 12:30 PM and they still were not ready. I asked her when they would be ready, and she went to ask the baker, who may or may not have been the owner. He apparently told her that they still weren't ready and couldn't or wouldn't give me a time. I have to be at the hostess' house by 5:30, and they live in Bayside, which is why I needed to know this. Then the server says, take the card and please call. By this time I was really annoyed. I told her that I didn't have time to keep running back and forth, especially if I couldn't get an answer about when they would be ready. She said you should have ordered it. That's when I got really angry and said that when I called the day before and asked if they needed to be reserved, she assured me that I didn't have to do that. There policy apparently changes with the weather. That is NOT a way to do business. I had a brick and mortar store for 37 years in Farmingdale, and whatever policies I had, remained consistent. I let all my customers know exactly where they stand, so there would be no miscommunications. I just walked out and decided to express my feelings on yelp. If I hadn't called them earlier, I would not have been upset, but because I tried to be diligent, it backfired. I then went 10 minutes out of my way to Shoprite in Plainview where they had the rugelach, at a cheaper price. I prefer to shop at local businesses to support the community I live in, and quite a few of them are very accomodating. But D & D Bake Shop is NOT one of them. If you do decide to patronize them, make sure you call them in advance for ANYTHING. Otherwise you will be disappointed. read more

Very disappointed with this place ordered a cake for my daughters christening I came in there with a pic of what I wanted and they said no problem they could make that cake when I picked it up the format was right but the color of the cake was horrible... I complained to them that the cake looked horrible you could barley see her name they all said I dont know I dont know like playing stupid when it was your people who made the cake if it couldn't have been done then they should have said something. When I told them I shouldn't pay for something that didn't come out the way I wanted they honestly did not care and told me they would give me my money back and to give them the cake back when I have a party with 100 people coming... Everyone in there was so stupid and unaccomodating... I will never use them or refer them again..
