It took me some time to actually try the generator running my home, and when I did, it didn't work…read moreat all. The generator did but not the connection. Then for some reason I had flickering lights, and Sam was out of the country, so I called another electric company. He came out and fiddled around a couple things. Again, it was a while before I tried the generator again and it still didn't work. I talked with a neighbor down the road, and he gave me the number of the electrician he uses. I called them and they came out and told me it's a good thing it didn't work because it was not hooked up correctly. I could have caused an explosion, and even ruined my generator. That company (Efficient Electric) fixed it safely on their 2nd visit. I'm out the money I paid to United Electric in the end.

First let me be clear that their technician Jim was a very nice person and the work that we asked…read morethem to do (adding a 220 plug to our barn) was done well so far as I can tell. The problem is that Jim is very social and spent a lot of time talking as well as doing work we had not asked to have done. I asked ONLY for the 220 plug to be added and requested a quote and was told that they didn't like to give them but ballpark if all goes well $180 ... that it would take about 1 hour at $80/hour + $100 for parts something like that. However because of chatting and socializing and taking on tasks he was not asked to do the tech was here for 2.5 hours. He took it upon himself to relabel our entire electrical panel and charged me the hourly rate for it... it took him 1 hour so $80 added to my bill. When he Brought the ticket for me to sign it was for more than double what they had quoted me. Partly this was because we needed to add some kind of double breaker switch which I agreed too and was willing to pay for but on the day of the service the tech told me that $80 was for the 1 hour he had spent re-labeling my fuse box. At that time I said well I'm not signing this because I don't have an extra $80 laying around and I did not want the fuse box relabeled and if you had asked if I wanted that and let me know what the cost would be I would absolutely have declined because anyone can relabel a fuse box themselves they don't need to pay a professional to do it. He said he understood and left with the unsigned bill. I was waiting for a call from the owner to discuss in further detail but it never came I did however begin receiving collections calls from his secretary. Finally I spoke with Bryan the owner I assume who insulted me, threatened me, swore at me and continued to insist that it was my word against his that the tech had only spent 20 mins on the box and that the rest of the $407 invoice was for I don't even know what. Long story short I called and received a $180 ballpark quote but then was charged $407 accused of lying, threatened with small claims court if I didn't pay in full and sworn at. When I let Bryan know that I would be leaving this detailed review he said he would dispute it.

They gave me an official quote and promised to pull permits for me. Everything went great and I'm happy with the work. I'm not sure if I'm just extremely happy to be done with my old panel or if they did such a good job. They put in grounding rods, replaced the connection to the line and the meter box. And replaced my old Pushmatic panel with a new Square D panel. All needed desperately. The price was very competitive. The job was done in a timely manner.
