He used thinning shears a lot during the cut, and the result is way too thin, high, and choppy. It's just not what I expected, and it feels like it'll take at least a year to grow out. I made an appointment with Nana last year on 12/28/2024 to schedule a digital perm with Nana. My appointment is today (2/28/2025) 11am. And it was cancelled last minute due to water damage. Before the appointment, I got a tons of confirmation emails and reminders asked me to confirm I want to keep my appointment. And they said they can only reschedule to after mid of April because it may take a month to fix the water damage, and the hair stylist will be on vacation. I take today off just for this appointment. I feel really bad because I am so looking forward to this. The worst thing is it was cancelled just 40 minutes before the appointment. If water damage is that bad, you should at least let me know earlier so I can do something else. Now it just wasted my whole morning and ruins my day. There are $135 penalty to me if I cancel my appointment last minute, but they don't have penalty at all if they do so. I had been D&H several times but I won't choose it anymore. read more

A Facebook ad popped up for a hair salon with scalp spa. I definitely thought it was one of those scientific scalp spas where they take a microscope to your scalp...it isn't I did really need a haircut anyway and through the promo the scalp spa + haircut was the same price, so I made an appointment with Nana I had cut my hair about a month ago before a trip to Japan, and really regret not getting it cut in Japan from the pictures and how the hair was growing out, so I booked my first appointment ever at a Japanese salon in the Bay Area (for background I never really cut my hair more than a few times every 2-3 years, and when I did cut it more pre Covid it was random because I had a traveling job in other countries/states) I honestly think this may have been the highest quality hair cut I've ever gotten in my life. From the beginning there was 6 layers of towels and wraps to make sure no hair got inside my shirt. The head spa included a pre-treatment, a treatment during the washing, and a post-treatment, and a head/neck massage. I always thought that my dandruff was the result of dryness, but I learned that it's actually the opposite. My scalp is well moisturized, if anything oily (which I did also find annoying), and that's why I have dandruff, because the moisturizing shampoos are blocking exfoliation. The more you know! I was unhappy with how my previous cut was really a bowl cut (A line bob), so she helped add texture, layers, and face framing. Gave me tips on how to style and dry and wash my hair, and how to grow out my bangs and style it too. Also she was super pregnant (and still did an amazing job which is crazy) and probably will not be available for a minute! I'll definitely be back to have her dye my hair. read more

This new salon popped up so many times and I saw that one of their services was hair growth as well as scalp treatment. I've been annoyed with my dry scalp and I needed a treatment that can help alleviate that. First off, the location is a little hidden, so make sure you keep your eye out for a sign that will direct you to the entrance. But once you step inside, it was a small salon that had such cute aesthetics inside, and they have wifi, which was perfect! The two ladies working were so nice and friendly! I booked a session with Nana, who was so sweet and knowledgeable about hair care and scalp care. I did a 90min hair spa treatment and throughout the treatment, she gave such a gentle touch with the scalp massages during the washing process, and was very attentive to detail. At the end, she was able to recommend me some hair care treatments as well as products to take home to utilize during my hair washing days. Definitely check this place out! Everything was organized and clean inside, with soothing music. I highly recommend this place and even bring my mom and daughter next time! One of the best haircut and highlights I have gotten in a while. My hair is on a thicker side, so they thinned it out a little bit. Made reservation online for hair cut and highlights for a Sunday morning . I didn't pick specific staff since this was my first time there. Staff speaks both Japanese and English. Parking is HARD to find and location is kind of hard to find & see. Arrive to appointment at LEAST 15-20 minutes before. I drove around in circles for a good 10 minutes trying to find parking. Ended up parking down the street and speed walked over. Most of the street parking is 2 hours but read the signs carefully. Price was reasonable. Hair cut included hair wash and dry. I usually get hair cut once a year and highlight hair about every two years. I will be coming back again in future. read more

Saw the ad in my Facebook feed and wanted to check out what a head spa experience is. Booked my 1 hour treatment with Nana first, the location is a little tricky to find, though there is ample parking by the park. It is on the second floor so there will be stairs. The sign says 2f, but once you enter it's 2g. All easy to figure out. The room is minimal, white and clean. You are greeted upon arrival. They ask if you'd like to use the restroom as the treatment is one hour. now, onto the treatment ... it starts with a warm dry towel wrapped around your neck (to prevent the water from touching you). It's a nice touch that the towel is warm (like fresh out of the dryer). Then you walk over to the shampoo bowl and are ready to be pampered. You are asked to pick a scent - citrus, rose or vanilla. I choose citrus as those other two scents can sometimes be overwhelming. Nana starts by wetting your hair, asking if the water temperature is ok. Then she works her magic with gentle deft fingers to shampoo and condition your head. She takes her time massaging the temples, top of scalp and then the sides. When the conditioner is on, she'll wrap the neck (the part resting on the water basin) in a thick hot towel and then also apply one on the forehead/hairline area. It's like you are being cocooned :) She'll rinse out the conditioner and then you are off for a quick blow dry and style, however before then as you dry a little under a machine, she'll massage your shoulders. That was extremely relaxing :) I came in with my natural curly hair and left with a flat ironed straight hair. It was a relaxing hour and glad I came! Nana is very friendly and kind. read more

Glad I found this studio on Instagram by chance. I visited it first and was so impressed that I brought my friend back for her bday; both of us loved our haircut + head-spa service by Yuka. It's a small studio, parking on the street could be tricky depending on how busy, I would suggest be there 10 mins earlier than your appointment as I got a bit lost my first time here. Highly recommended for people who prefer a quiet, calming setting and is adversed to busy salon. I have been here at least 3 times before. I've never had a bad experience before. I saw a senior stylist Rio for a dry haircut. I had just washed and blow dried my hair. I showed pictures of a style I wanted. she pulled all my hair to the front and cut it in bulk at the front of me. WHY?! I have never had my hair cut like this! I was expecting sections to be made and precision cutting of each section/ layer. I asked for face framing, there was little to none. When I asked to see the back of my hair, she started cutting the back before she would hand me the mirror. I had to ask for hot tools and styling, she barely used the flat iron ONLY when I asked for it. the haircut didnt even take 20 minutes. This is NOT a senior stylist. NOT a quality haircut. and I am just supposed to enjoy it and pay for it? I have to go get an actual haircut somewhere else now to fix what she didn't do. such a waste. read more

They are excellent stylists and can fulfill my simple request - mid long hair, side front bang. After d&h reopen, I decided to give a try on the new stylist - Apollo. This stylist is super unprofessional compared to the other stylists I've worked with. I asked him isn't the hair too short? The stylist responded- honey, don't worry. Rest assured! In the end, the hair is indeed too short and the length is uneven! I'm glad I stopped him from trimming too much my front hair. I'd rather trim it by myself. Head spa was okay... my haircut is horrible. As in, i teared up and I have to immediately go get it fixed because it's not presentable enough to go to work. I did let the stylist know what I want, I had pictures, and talked about how I know that although my hair is thinner, I'm looking specifically for layers in the back and front to give some movement. I ended up with zero layers, just a choppy line (which isn't even with the other side) that I asked him to blend. No layers in the back at all. He also didn't ask me where I wanted the bangs/front layers to start which is strange since that's where you base the entire front of a cut. I asked him to stop cutting because at this point I don't think we are communicating well enough to get the cut I wanted or fix what he did. read more

I was told that those excellent Japanese stylists went back to Japan since the pandemic, and cannot come back due to visa. The quality of those new folks are really bad.... I have tried Apollo... I have showed him with photo about what I want. But he never cared and never asked... and he cut it way too short... it is not what I want at all... $60 should be a very premium service. All my friends recommended D&H to me, and now I know why! They do fantastic job!! My stylist is Makoto, who is super responsible and detail driven. He gave me a half hour consultation the day before my appointment and discussed in detail of the color and the style I want to make sure we align with each other. On the day, my hair turned out to be harder to bleach and dye, so we kind of ran out of time, but even when it's already delayed, he still paid attention to every detail, refined the cutting for another 20ish minutes at the end to make it perfectly what I want. This was my first visit to this salon and it was recommended by a friend. My stylist was Apollo. I was waiting to get a haircut for a year now due to the pandemic. I decided to treat myself for a hair treatment too. Total cost was $125 including tip. For a $70 haircut, I was expecting an expert to get the hair cut I want but I didn't. The hair treatment was just 2-step process with 5min and then 10min treatment with no scalp massage. My friend told me she had one with just the shampoo and cut option (this was about two years ago) so I was disappointed by that since I paid an extra $35 for the hair oil treatment. I kept telling the stylist that I wanted the haircut from the picture I showed him. He didn't bother asking if my bangs were ok before finishing up. I had to tell him that I wanted a thicker bangs. Even though I kept on telling him I wanted the exact cut and style from the picture he said that this cut from the picture wouldn't be good for Asians. I think I can judge what looks good or not since this is what I want. Anyways, I ended with a cut that did not look good. I actually slept on it before writing this review but I did not change my mind how bad this cut was. I ended up giving a $20 tip which I shouldn't have but I was being generous. I also found out that Apollo is new to the salon. Maybe if you have a different stylist, it will be a different experience. I will not come back to D&H. read more

So, I took a chance and made an appointment at D&H Salon and meet with my new stylist, Apollo. I'm so excited! He actually did an excellent color and cut. I'm am so grateful! My hair looks great! I had Nana for my hair for my first time. I did one single color and haircut. She did a good job based on the pictures I showed to her. Their color product is pretty good, it didn't smell like other hair salon. A little pricey compared to other salons.
