I had such a great experience with Nonnie! I booked an appointment with her to touch up my hair color, and reached out to schedule a consultation before hand. I've been meaning to write this review for a long time, and I regret not doing it sooner--especially after seeing that my experience wasn't unique. I hope this helps someone avoid what I went through. Last year, I had an appointment with Mai. From the very beginning, I showed her a clear inspo photo of the blonde I wanted--something I had already achieved at a different salon. She never mentioned that it wouldn't be possible or that we'd need to approach it differently. My hair lifted beautifully, but then she went in with such an ashy toner that my hair turned gray. The moment she rinsed it out, I knew it wasn't right. I told her I was unhappy, and she offered to do a bleach wash to try again. That bleach wash ended up permanently damaging my hair. My roots turned an awful brassy orange, and even now--a year later--I still have uneven brassy and brown patches that multiple stylists haven't been able to correct. The integrity of my hair has never been the same since. I cried in the salon chair because my graduation was a week away, and this looked nothing like what I asked for. They saw I was upset, but instead of showing any sympathy or care, they just styled my hair and sent me on my way. I paid over $700 for an experience that left me heartbroken and with long-term damage. I'm not writing this for sympathy--clearly, they never felt any for me. I'm writing this because I don't want anyone else to walk in hoping for something beautiful and leave feeling the way I did. If you, as a stylist personally know you can't attain the results a client is asking for--please be honest. Don't waste their time, money, and trust. The vibe of this salon feels very upscale and I really enjoyed the environment. Everything seemed super clean which I liked. I originally wanted a balayage but the stylist said it would take 7+ hrs which I never heard of. Usually elsewhere it's 5 or less. Anyway I was on time crunch so I just settled for some simple highlights which took 5+ hours. I thought the price would be $300ish but I noticed the stylist kept getting extra bowls which is additional cost and ended up being over $500 total. Just look at my pics for reference on length. Yikes. I honestly regretted coming here because it took so long and it didn't even come out that good. My hair color messed up with some weird zebra prints after they took out the foil and stuff and the boss had to fix it which kind of worried me. It was a red flag that I had to point it out and not the stylist noticing it. I thought the boss had fixed everything but when I came home i still saw so many messed up pieces lol. However I told them and they offered to fix the pieces but I just never went. I def wish I went somewhere else for $500+. Whatever I got was def not worth the price tag. Zaneta has done an amazing job taking care of my hair pre- and post-wedding. She gave me a gorgeous cut that continued to grow out beautifully for my wedding. Post-wedding is when the fun began! I've been wanting to dye my hair purple for as long as I can remember. And Zaneta made my purple dreams come true! She started me off gentle with a light purple that blended beautifully in with my hair so it wasn't really noticeable until I was under sunlight. The second round happened about 4 months later and I went all in and asked for a semi-permanent purple. We went with a cool tone and the color is gorgeous! I love that Zaneta talks you through everything describing which way we can go with each step and what that would mean for the fade out and care taking. She is also very upfront about pricing and will give you your estimate once you've talked everything through. My husband has been seeing Janne for his hair cuts. The first time we saw her, she managed to convince him to get a perm and he hasn't stopped since! She does a wonderful job and the hair style matches him so well. I visited Tina 2 weeks before my son's wedding. An occasion any mother wants to look her best for. This was following a 10 minute consult when I showed pictures and shared I wanted my hair to show highlights and have lighter but not gold color highlights. I repeatedly asked her to not make my hair look darker. I also paid her higher rate (compared to other stylists in the salon) to get better performance but was left me with a brand new stylist to color my hair as she attended to an angry and unhappy customer sitting next to me. When she washed my hair, I could tell she realized I was not happy. Instead of acknowledging my frustration, she recommended that I wash my hair and give it a couple of weeks to get lighter. I also was offered to go back for a bleach wash but she added that I had to pay her hourly rate of 150 on top of the 620 I paid already for that. There was no emotion, no compromise. She was done with her work and robotically justified what happened. I gave it a week, washed my hair every day and there was absolutely no change. I have made another appointment to see another stylist to fix the mess she created. I felt she was unfair and felt worst that on top of her poor performance I had kindly paid an additional tip. I called the salon back today to ask for a refund. I told her i would be happy if she paid half of what she charged so I could use it toward the next appointment. Again, her approach was very justified , emotionless and kept on repeating that she had told me what to expect every step of the way! I certainly didn't pay 620 to make my hair look worst! This attitude was absolutely not right and added to insult. This is my first time posting something like this ever! It is well deserved and people need to learn from my experience and what a rip off this was! I uploaded my "aspiration" photo before I went to my highlight appointment which was completely looked over and ignored. I wish she could have been honest and told me she wasn't able to do what I was asking for. I feel violated and taken advantage of. My hair looked way better before I saw this lady! From what I found, Mai was a great stylist so I booked a haircut with her. I'm typically quite anxious in the salon because 1) I have a lot of hair 2) I have wavy hair Both of which could allow for stylists to be overwhelmed and scissorhappy, which usually leaves me sad walking out of a salon. But that didn't happen here! Mai was extremely welcoming and friendly throughout the entire experience. She made me feel comfortable with my hair and gave me a beautiful hair cut with long layers. She checked in with me a lot to see if I was happy with the length and also didn't rush through the process. We cut off about 5-6". She really ensured she delivered quality work and I'm so grateful. I've had Zaneta, Nonnie, Christina all help assist pr do my hair when Tina was out for maternity leave and they're all amazing. I've done it all: blonde, back to dark brown, to babylights, extensions, short hair, and so much. I couldn't find pictures for it all. Out of them all, I picked Nonnie as my hairstylist. She was thorough when asking about my hair and its history. When attending to my hair, she treated it with much-needed love and care. She also provided me with hair advice as well as knowledge on what hair products to use/avoid. She even made sure I was comfortable and offered me drinks and snacks. Overall, she was very accommodating and fun to talk to. In total, the process took about 6 hours, but it was 100% worth it! My hair stylist was Nonnie, I had a consultation with her regarding what the process would be for my hair since I wanted to go from purple to copper. She was very clear and upfront about how long it would be, the cost, etc. My session was from 10am-6pm, she applied bleach to my hair once to remove the blue and green underneath my purple. I'm a regular with Zaneta and see her around once every 6 months for a big appointment (bleaching roots for a peekaboo, color refresh, and haircut) and ideally once every 3 months for a haircut. She's incredibly straightforward on her pricing and is super friendly and helpful for the entire appointment. I've been dyeing my hair for years and have gone to multiple stylists. I really like Zaneta because she puts hair health first - she doesn't pull bleach onto the scalp and will start with a lower developer and slowly transition higher as she bleaches your hair so it lifts evenly and certain parts don't get over-processed. This is partially why I'm able to keep bleaching my hair while maintaining my length (I don't keep damaged hair just for the sake of keeping length - I'll chop if it's in bad condition). She also doesn't double book which I really appreciate. if you're interested in booking with her, I recommend reaching out sooner than later as she is usually booked out for a few months. The salon is clean and cute and the rest of the stylists are also super nice. The only caveat - pricing is higher than what I've paid for similar appointments with other stylists at different salons but given the quality of care and my amazing experiences - I'm personally okay with it. read more

This is a very long overdue review for my stylist, Zaneta!! I first came to duet salon in 2020 when places were opening back up during COVID with safety protocols in place. This was my second time trying a balayage. I was a bit nervous because of the bad experience from my previous stylist. My previous stylist was at one of SJ's popular salons known for balayage, yet she was very cold and unwelcoming towards me. She would barely answer my questions with few words, which didn't help me at all since I didn't know much about hair/balayage back then. My first appointment at Duet with Zaneta was completely different from the start. She asked me a bunch of questions during our consultation (what I was looking for, asked me how much maintenance I was willing to put in, my hair background, etc.). I had a lot of questions that she answered very thoroughly as well. You can tell she really cares to understand what her client wants. During the entire balayage process, you can see that she won't hesitate to sacrifice her time to be very meticulous and detailed. I have very long and thick hair that takes up her entire working day, but she really puts her work into it!! She'll also check in with me throughout the process to make sure my hair is turning out how I want it. Fast forward to 2024 and I'm still a dedicated client of Zaneta's. I recently moved to SoCal but will always try to squeeze in an appointment every time I visit home. When you find a stylist you connect with, don't take it for granted!! A nice bonus is that Duet Salon has strong Wi-Fi and the stylists are comfortable with clients WFH during their appointment since they can be long. I always bring my work laptop during my 5+ hour appointments so I don't have to take the day off. Each bleaching appointment is a bit on the pricier side since the salon calculates by # of extra bowls of bleach and I have a LOT of hair. But it is worth every dollar for me because I can be confident every time I go into the salon knowing that I'll come out with hair that I love. I've come back to Nonnie about 4 times this year to get my roots touched up + glazes since I've been getting a single color all over. There's only been 1 instance where the root color came out to be a slightly different tone but it was an easy fix for me since I had a color depositing conditioner at home to even it out. I came back this week to get my hair recolored before my wedding and my hair came out PERFECT. I sent a picture of my extensions over text and even though I forgot to bring it with me to the appt, she was thankfully still able to color match correctly, with the help of Tina the owner. So even though Nonnies a newer stylist, she gets better and better each time and seems like she has great mentors and team members to learn from too! I'm excited to come back to Nonnie in the fall for some possible highlights! Overall, this is a great salon that's super clean and treats their clients with love and respect! Tina has been my dedicated stylist for over 6 years now - I've been getting my cuts and color done exclusively by her since her days at the Salon Academy. Even after I moved to LA I still drove 5+ hours just to get my hair done. Call me crazy but if y'all have ever experienced the blessing that is finding a stylist you truly trust, you know to hold on and never let go!! My natural hair is almost black and on the thicker side of Asian hair, which means it does not budge easily. Despite this, Tina has taken me on a joyride across the entire rainbow spectrum over the years - from full light blonde to ashy dark blond, to pink, blue, red, maroon, dark purple, and brown, all the while throwing in some beautiful balayage and babylight sessions while keeping my hair healthy. I've probably given her many headaches swapping back and forth between difficult colors because I'm an indecisive b, but ya girl delivers. Every. Time. Getting your hair done is just part of the experience though - Tina is hilarious and will be your stylist, therapist, and friend all wrapped into one. Special color request? Drama for ya mama? She'll listen and tell you what's achievable for both your hair and your life lol. I've been getting my hair done by the same person for the past 20 years at a very reasonable price and always dependable. I went to a new place one time about 10 years ago and it was a disaster, lots of tears. Lately the person I've been going to hasn't been giving me hair that I love. I asked for blonder and I got orange-y and not very blended hair. I was getting married in approximately a month or so and I really wanted to get my hair to a place where I was obsessed with it. I did some research through looking at reviews and online and came across Duet Salon. I sent in photos and asked for an in person consultation. I met Nonnie and she explained what the plan would be and we scheduled an appointment. I was really nervous, but Nonnie did everything to help me feel more comfortable. Even though she's only been doing hair with her license for a year or two, she took the time to educate me about best practices for taking care of my hair. Recommended products and how to keep it healthy. Even when I texted her after the appointment, she responded with some pointers which I was grateful for. I was still nervous up until the last 20 minutes of getting my hair done. It still looked too dark and I was internally freaking out. But then she started to blow dry it and style it, which I didn't get done in the past with my previous hairdresser because it cost extra. But once I saw it lightening with blow drying and after taking pictures of my hair both straight and curly, OMG I FELT LIKE A MILLION BUCKS. I could NOT believe that was my hair. It was so much more smooth and the color I was hoping for. That night I went on a date with my fiancé and I couldn't have felt more confident. I loved my hair for my wedding too, I got compliments during my wedding weekend and I thank Nonnie so much for helping me to feel fabulous for my special weekend! Now it's been almost 3 months since getting my hair done. I am curious to know how long I'll be able to go before I feel like it needs to be done again. Before I was only getting it done twice a year. It is pricier than what I'm used to spending for my hair but it was definitely worth it for my weekend, and likely will keep going back. I was looking for a solid South Bay hair stylist specific for Asian hair and haircuts. I'm so glad I found Duet. My stylist was Zaneta. I found her through the Duet Salon IG page, which is so easy to navigate since they feature their stylists' works all the time. Every stylist has their own work, so I did some digging to see who I think I might vibe with in terms of their work. I chose Zaneta because she seemed so easygoing, creative and bold with her work. She's so giving and friendly in person! We communicated via email until the day of the appointment, and on the day of she made sure she listened to all of my concerns and clarified lots of questions so I knew I was getting the cut I wanted. Even though I didn't really have a plan on what exactly I wanted, I did bring some pictures to give her a better idea of my style. I appreciate that she asked me about the work I do and how I normally wear my hair because honestly that's how I'd end up taking care of it after the cut. I'm very low-key and no-fuss with my hair, so she made sure that I walked out feeling fresh, free, and lighter which was TOTALLY the case. She also gives little head massages during the wash + dry portion of the service which is always a plus! It's a few weeks later and I'm loving my shorter cut.
