Daren and Denise are the owners of the shop and have been family friends of ours for years (his kids babysat me, I babysat his kids, my dad and Daren did some work together for a bit... etc.). They run their shop beautifully. They don't have the lowest prices in town, but keep in mind, they are a small family owned and operated shop who have always done and always will do amazing quality work. James is one of the mechanics there and he is a hell of an awesome guy. He gives you the straight low down on your car, and is up front about everything with you. Everyone there is all about customer satisfaction. If its an easy but expensive job, they will teach you how you can do it yourself at home if you choose to save some money. So there you have it. I have been here before, and have sent other family members here as well. I am TERRIBLE at car maintenance, and needed to get my brakes fixed, so D & J was the first place that came to mind. I took it in about 8:30am, and it was done by around noon. I picked it up, and they showed me my horrible brake pads (no pad, just metal), and told me that I needed to get an oil change ASAP. I brought my 2001 F350 diesel in for some work on the transfer case. The 4-wheel drive was not engaging. I typically change my own oil but it was time and since the truck was in the shop I asked them to go ahead and do it. They flushed the system, changed the oil and repaired the transfer case issues. I could not be more grateful for their expert, professional, HONEST service! My car was recently towed to a different shop for repairs on a water pump. The shop quoted me at nearly $800 in repairs for a Chevy Sedan, $500 alone in labor! They took the time to research my vehicle and VIN number, and were THE ONLY shop to find out that it was covered under a special warranty from my Chevy dealer. It's not very common these days to have someone take the time out of their busy work day to truly help you and give you honest assistance on your vehicle when they won't even necessarily profit from it. AMAZING!!! From day 1... we were treated with care. Brought our 10 year old Escalade in because it wouldn't pass smog. DJ hooked it up printed out a detailed report and gave it to us straight. Repairs were not easy or cheap, manifold ...but we passed smog no problem. read more

Brought my daughter's 2008 Hyundai Azera in with an apparent electrical ground which drained the battery. Darren, the owner and mechanic, found that the new battery installed by a "road service assistance outfit" failed to clean the battery cable connectors and corrosion was grounding the battery. The battery was still good so he cleaned the connections and my daughter's car was back in service. However, a week later, another ground developed so I brought the car back to Darren. When we had the car in the shop, we could not get the ground to present so we left the car over the weekend. Darren worked on the car on his day off and finally saw the ground appear again. He tracked it down to a non-working CD changer in the car with a jammed CD. Disconnecting the radio/CD player eliminated the ground. I felt we were charged fairly for eliminating both electrical problems that in my experience could have resulted in my daughter requiring a new car. She is very happy with the car now and has had no recurrence of any electrical problems. Dealing with Darren and his wife - Denise was a great experience. My discussion with Darren gave me confidence in his abilities and his willingness to do his best to repair the problem. This experience with D & J AUTO DOCTORS reassured me that this was a very good place to have any future auto repair problems addressed. read more

They are not only trustworthy but their customer service is amazing! I was taking my car up to Big Sur, CA and it's over 130,000 miles and I needed to make sure it was going to run smoothly and what absolutely needed done and what could wait. I dropped my car off, got offered a ride home, and then they called me with an estimate and exactually what needed done before I left and what could wait. Fantastic service Sooo glad I found this place on yelp of course! One of our company box trucks broke down on the 5 north in BFE, I researched a few local shops this one happens to Work on diesel 7.3l power stroke, they connected me up with a towing company that tows commercial vehicles(very hard to find); A one stop shop saved me hours of aggravation. We just got back our truck they did an excellent job, went the extra mile for us. I was very impressed with how thorough Darren was(including explaining details on the phone)they replaced a broken Peace of a larger part not the entire assembly which probably saved me $500.00 I only wish I lived in Oceanside I would take all my cars to d & j. These guys are the best! I was traveling on vacation and my car's A/C quit working. I could not keep going unless it got fixed (wife's orders!). I found D&J on Google Maps, among other repair shops, but they had about 20 good reviews. I went there, even though it wasn't the closest to where I was staying. They diagnosed the problem within a couple of hours and had it fixed a couple of hours after that. They told me the A/C failed because my cabin air filter was clogged, and they gave me the old one. NASTY! It clearly had not been changed in years. The dealer who had been maintaining my car for several years has some big time explaining to do when I get back. Too bad I don't live close enough to Oceanside to keep bringing my car here. They charged a fair price with quick service, so I did not lose any vacation time waiting on the shop. read more

I have taken our car here about 5 different times now and every single time they are nothing but friendly, thorough and honest! I do not know much about cars and they put it in terms easy for me to understand and don't try to push anything that doesn't need fixed! One of the mechanics today said to me, "if it isn't broken don't fix it!" Which is not how a lot of car shops work. They are not all about the money, they truly care! After 80,000 miles I finally took my truck to D&J Auto doctors to get work done. The truck had never been worked on aside from oil changes. Darren and his staff did a wonderful job getting my truck to run better than new. I had them do a tuneup and replace the brakes. Upon closer inspection they found that one of my hubs had gone bad so they replaced that to. When I looked at the hub and found out how loose it was I couldn't understand how the truck was steering properly. They also took care of me when I had an on road emergency, they where able to get the problem fixed in a couple of hours and with no hassle. These guys are professional and I would highly recommend them to anyone. This is the kind of place that I could send my Mom to because they are trustworthy. I just have to tell you about the honesty I experienced with D & J's. I have an '99 Audi A4, which had a oil leak, it was an expensive repair because of where the leak originated and several months later, I heard a loud noise coming from that area. The warranty period was over, but Darren checked it out. Turns out the problem was due to his tech not tightening something on the last repair, which in turn caused a new problem. He admitted their fault and agreed to pull the whole thing apart, no charge. All I had to do was pay for one part...labor was free. I was amazed at his honesty and integrity. I have used D & J for years. This week, my truck just stopped on the way to work in Riverside. I called Triple A for a jump but called D & J to find out what was wrong. They diagnosed the problem correctly over the phone. Darren told me to have the AAA tow truck tow me to a safe place, and he would get an alternator for me. D & J showed up later that afternoon and fixed my truck in the dark. They are the very best! I wouldn't want to use anyone else, even 70 miles from home. Saw nothing but great reviews on this place do I figured I would give it a try when my car had some issues. When I got there I was quoted a cheap price and a fast time line to when my car would be finished so I gave the go ahead on the repair to be done, a simple part swap which I provided the part for and all I needed was the labor done. Soon as they finished the mechanic said the part was installed but it was not working properly and they would have to take it out but charge me again for the labor I decided against it and drove home with the "bad"part anyway but noticed a horrible sound coming now from the engine luckily I know enough to figure out what the noise was and how to fix it and I did. It has now been a week and the "bad" part I'd still working and have not had any problems with my car. I will not be coming to this place again and I would recommend staying away I think they write their own reviews. read more

The whole crew at d and j i very professional and they really care about you as a person not just another customer. my car had clutch problems and needed a water pump as well as a radiator. they did excellent work and my car feels brand new.
