I cannot recommend this shop enough. Both my husband and I now bring our cars to Mastertech and won't be looking back. They are incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and transparent. I originally came in for a VW-specific repair but also asked them to look at a couple of items my dealership had deemed "necessary," including a complete brake job based on specific measurements. Not only did the team complete the needed repair quickly (even with having to order a part), but they also ran a thorough diagnostic, took precise measurements, performed in-depth inspections, and test drove the vehicle. They clearly outlined what actually needed attention and, most importantly, identified that a major repair the dealership was pushing was absolutely not necessary at this time. That alone saved me a significant amount of money. They were honest, detailed, never pushed unnecessary services, and consistently put their customers first. They also handled work specific to my VW that not every shop is equipped to do. The owner and his team carry a level of expertise and knowledge that you rarely come across. On top of that, they completed everything quickly despite the amount of work I was having done. It's rare to find an auto shop that makes you feel taken care of rather than taken advantage of. I so badly wanted to give this shop a 5 star review and make them our go to shop for our 5 vehicles as well as referring to other families and friends, but unfortunately I am unable to in good conscious. I was pleased by their location. It was the most convenient of all in my area. The 2 stars I'm submitting is solely based on the 2 pluses I personally encountered. The initial contact I had with the shop via telephone was with an actual person whom answered the call; it wasn't an automated recording, making the customer feel the shop offers a more personalized service. The owner's involvement and attempt to make things right after lack of communication and untruths holds the value of the second Star. I scheduled my appointment with Bob for 830 am the following morning. I arrived on time and communicated the maintenance services I was hoping the shop could and would perform. Bob and I discussed the services and he provided me with an estimate focusing primarily (75%) on labor with an understanding there would be additional charges for parts that would be communicated later. I was not aware the cost of parts would NOT be presented to me until I picked up my truck and I was presented the final bill for the services performed on my truck. Bob told me at the time of drop off I would receive a phone call for the cost of parts (fluids) which I never did. The maintenance estimate for my truck was for 4 1/2 hours of labor. I left the shop at 9am after explaining I had to walk to and from my home (2 1/2 miles one way) for drop off and pick up and should any additional work or parts be necessary I would need to be called by 4 pm in order to arrive promptly by the time the shop closed to pick up my truck (5pm). Because I did not receive any calls by the agreed upon time of 4pm I started to walk to pick up my truck. While walking to the shop I received a phone call at 421 pm but due to the urgency to meet a timeframe and because I didn't recognize the phone number I did not stop to answer the call. I later learned it was Bob. When I arrived at the shop at 440 I was surprised to learn my truck was not ready for pick up. I was informed they weren't even halfway done with it ? Which meant only 2 of the 4 1/2 hours were completed. Bob told me he left a message that my truck was not completed and it would need to stay overnight, but in fact the message did not say that. Not that it matters at this point but his message only said he had some information about my truck and it was obvious they were going to hold it over til the following day. No mention of not being finished which could have meant because I was unreachable or because Bob thought I wouldn't make it to them on time they would hold it over. If my truck was not even halfway done by the time I arrived to pick it up at 440 I'm finding it hard to believe that no one knew before the voicemail Bob left for me at 421 that my truck would not be finished by closing. Basic math tells me otherwise. Leaving me with many unanswered questions that will never get answered. Perhaps I'm guilty of comparing "owners" "shop managers" "service writers" and "technicians" to my husband and son and I hold them accountable to similar work ethics. The buck stops with the business owner. To excuse yourself from the lack of communication and staff professionalism is wrong. Employees should be trained that every customer deserves the same time and treatment. My family and I appreciate the "discount" and the comp tire rotation. Unfortunately our final bill was still far more than discussed but will accept it as a learning experience and will demand prices for ALL parts And Labor be communicated by other shops prior to signing any agreement. Thank you Jason for offering a car rental but that wouldn't have done us any good if I needed to transport my husband in the 26 hours you had possession of my truck for 4 1/2 hours of labor. My truck isn't just a vehicle that can get me from point A to point B like any other vehicle. This truck is custom tailored for my husband's now disabilities and needs. It transports him, his motorized wheelchair and hoyer lift to and from places. I also appreciate the offer of a "ride" but that didn't make up for my time my energy and my trust and faith I lost in your shop. My hopes are to educate Any future customers They should definitely ask for a detailed cost estimate including labor AND all parts as to avoid any shock in any additional charges to their bill and hold the shop more accountable to communication. Lesson learned trust is earned and not given freely. read more

Great service! Robert helped me with a rat infestation issue in the engine compartment of our car. He and his mechanics identified several spots the rats had been contaminating and cleaned them out for us which included the back side of the cabin air filter.....yep pretty disgusting. They also repaired the windshield wiper hoses feeding water to the wiper blades from the water reservoir. Also discovered wiring insulation that had been eaten by the rats and repaired those to prevent any short circuits. Highly recommend his team for any services you may need performed on your car! I came in with some issues diagnosed by the GM dealership on my Buick, that would have cost me almost $4000 to fix according to their service center. I wanted a second opinion. The folks at Mastertech checked it all out for me and came back with a verdict of "what the hell was GM talking about, there's nothing wrong!?" Some mechanics could have easily taken me for a ride since I am unable to do the work-or even check myself right now because of a surgery, so not only were they thorough but they were more than helpful and honest where a lot of others (looking at you GM you rampant tossers) might not have been. Don't go. Went in for a tail light out. They kept it for to days to inform me it was just a fuse. Come on now that not right. Then they told me I needed a battery, so I did. Thinking these people were doing me right. I came a week later because my engine light came on. They kept it for two days again then inform me that it was a 3000.00 repair and recommend not to do it. So I went another mechanic and he check my car out the same day and told me that it was that I did not have a battery holder and because the battery was moving around it was messing with the computer in the car. Car was fix when they put the holder in. Master tech was the one who put my battery in and did not but my batter holder back. I feel I was RIP off. read more

Before I dropped my vehicle off I let them know I needed it by a certain day. Then I got the run around about when it would be ready. It doesn't take long to test an alternator. I was frustrated with my previous mechanic because it felt like every time I went in for an oil change he would find half a dozen other little things to do and charge me for. I did some looking and found Mastertech, and I am SO happy that I did! I mostly come in for oil changes and routine maintenance and I never feel as if I am being overcharged or upsold. Nate is incredibly kind and helpful and will always call to ask my permission before anything else is done, like replacing an air filter, which I greatly appreciate! Thankfully, I have never had any actual issues with my car, but if I did, I would happily trust Mastertech to give me the service I have come to expect from them. I just found these guys and I am very pleased with every aspect. I started with just bringing in my husband's Sonic to test the waters. Like with every new mechanic, I was a bit wary but Nate crushed those fears with his outstanding attitude and service. Our little Sonic was returned running much better than when it went in. I never had a chance to experience Mastertech Inc's service, but I really liked their honesty. I called them and talked to Rick explaining the symptoms my car was experiencing with me thinking my heater was busted. It turned out that when I last flushed my radiator, I hadn't filled the radiator and reservoir fully causing there to be hair bubbles that was making my engine temp gauge fluctuate and heater not to work. Rick suggested I wait till morning and checking the coolant level and indeed I was way low. After I topped off the coolant, everything was back to normal. This goes to show you that this place is honest. They could have easily told me to come in, checked out my car, and made me replace something that didnt need to be replaced. I feel i will be able to trust Mastertech Inc should there be something I really do need repaired. Bob, Rick, Guillermo are my heros!!!!!!!!! Check engine light came on Monday December 20. Dropped car off at 1:00, even though they were fully booked for the week. I had a quote by 5:00 ..... $3,800 and one week's time. Yikes! My car's total value is about $1,200. It's a Honda CRV with 206,000 miles on it. What to do????!!! I love the car and want it to last another 100,000 miles. By Tuesday morning, after Bob's many phone calls to after market suppliers, he was able to re-quote $2,000 and 3 days. I said GO. The name says it all, really. I recently bought a beat up 92 Ford F150, that had some mechanical issues. Before I found Mastertech, I took my truck to three other shops in North County and none of them were able to isolate the issue.The techs over at Mastertech successfully isolated my problem within a few days - it was a failing torque converter. I had even had a reputable Oceanside transmission specialist swear up and down that it wasn't the torque converter. I was turned away from another shop because my vehicle wasn't OBD2 equipped. What a joke. I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the shop, as well as the presentation of the mechanics themselves. Everyone was friendly and well-kempt and the shop was clean as a whistle! It seems like a trivial observation, but these kinds of things will tell you a great deal about the quality of work you're going to receive. Steer clear of other greasemonkey mechanics and get over to Mastertech where they're cleaned and prepped to perform some top-notch under-the-hood surgery on your vehicle! I'm extremely happy that I found Mastertech. Based on my experience, Its clear that they employ REAL technicians that can troubleshoot mechanical problems without completely relying on computerized diagnostics to do the brain-work for them. I brought this truck in with no history and they were able to correct its problems with masterful execution. The technicians at Mastertech, including the owner, Rick, called me every day to keep me updated and I was out of the shop and cruisin' down the 78 in a weeks time. They charge more for their time than other mechanics around town, but it kind of boils down to this: "Good work ain't cheap, and cheap work ain't good."
