Exteriror was not crispy, but bread was nice and fluffy. Nice to try, wouldn't get again. Chicken leg and fries - Very meaty chicken leg. Chicken was underseasoned and the meat was over cooked. Fries were good, slightly battered outside to make it extra crispy. Would not get fried chicken leg again. Milk teas were mediocre with the tea being overstepped. I would said, it is about $1 to 2 cheaper vs other HK cafes. They have small limited menu which you order from but I also saw some Chinese words on the wall that may indicate of special items. Choice of cream soup, Chinese soup or Russian Borst for the soup that comes with a set meal. The place wasn't busy at all on a weekday evening but the place tends to get packed during the morning and lunch periods. The restaurant looks super old style with not much decor. I came to Canada to visit my relatives and this is the first spot they took me to for breakfast. I got a ham and egg sandwich with a lemon iced tea. Order came within 10 minutes. The ham and egg sandwich tasted exactly as I expected. Nothing special but good. I wished there was more than one slice of ham but it was way cheaper than whatever I was having back where I live. The real star for me was the lemon iced tea. Tastes just like the ones I have at mom and pop cafes in Hong Kong. Overall, cheap and tastes great. A local gem in the neighbourhood, this authentic HK cafe serves up delicious breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas, and dinners. No matter what day it is, it'll always been busy and full of people! The decor is on the older side with handwritten menu items on the walls, but it is a clean and no frills spot. They have a couple special items - my favourite is the steak with spaghetti. Inside is pretty big - not too fancy in terms of renovation - a typical older style of HK cafe/restaurant. Staff are very nice and easy to talk with. Food service was very fast. Food Came here for breakfast, which is usually available until 11am for some items (others are all day). Very reasonable prices - I had a set morning meal which was under $10. This one came with egg sandwich, beef vermicelli and a drink. Overall everything is pretty standard, nothing was super outstanding or bad - quantity was enough to fill me up. Service was a bit slow and the staff was more occupied with chitchatting than checking if customers were ready to order. What's off-putting during this meal was the inappropriate, X-rated Cantonese conversation between the staff. A no frills, old school style hk cafe/diner with spacious seating. I used to come here on a yearly basis. Don't expect any modern or gimmicky items. Straight up solid joint to grab some breakfast at a reasonable price. My go to is probably the egg sandwiches with corned beef with a side of a tall glass of iced milk tea, it really hits the spot for me. The bread is nice and fluffy and soft. The milk tea is not diluted, it's strong and is a good pick me up in the morning. There are also other menu items other than breakfast like noodles and rice dishes. It's located in plaza among other shops. There is also decent amount of parking. Service is overall decent, usually got seated relatively quick. Weekends are usually packed. Well, it's been a while since I did an official review of D & R Wing's. D & R's has been a long time staple for many local residents in Scarbrough, particularly for many residents from Hong Kong looking for a taste of classic HK style cafe cuisine. I grew up eating at D & R's with my family and during my lunches when I was in high school. It disappoints me to write this, but D & R's has lost its touch over the last few years. I made a visit recently to relive some of the cravings I had from childhood and unfortunately I was greatly disappointed. I ordered the Portuguese Style Seafood with Rice from their Daily Specials Menu, which comes with a soup (choice of Cream, Russian Borscht and Chinese) and a drink. I should have been more aware of my choice as I was expecting a medley of seafood (i.e. Fish, squid, shrimp) of the cheaper side. However, when I received my meal it was all fried fish in their so-called "Portuguese" sauce. The sauce was bland and had no seasoning whatsoever as it did not taste anything like a HK-style Portuguese sauce. There was quite an abundance of raw onions served with the fish which was disappointing as I do prefer the onions to be softer in order to add a hint of sweetness to the lackluster sauce. Although this place can be a hit or miss for service (depending if you are a regular or not), I received pretty decent service from the wait staff. I know they can be quite the "interesting" bunch, but they have been like that for years. You really go to D & R's for a quick no-frills lunch/breakfast and if you are expecting 5-star service, well I would go to other places if I were you. It's not a bad place to check out. However, you do need to be careful of what you order. Try observing what around is ordering. If there is quite the number of the same dishes ordered by many tables, that's the go-to dish that the chef/cook is cooking up really well for the day. read more

I have no idea why D & R Wing's is called D & R Wing's!! Guys, don't get too excited.. this is not a Chicken Wings and Beer drinking place.. they don't even has a LCBO license and you won't find any of their TV showing any sport games, it is just another HK style Chinese Cafe! Lunch Specials from $5.99 that includes a soup and tea/coffee and yes you have to endure the indifferent services unless you are one of the regulars. All these older male regular patrons flirting with the waitresses did give me some sort of entertainment aside from the Chinese TV program showing on one of their TVs. Curry Chicken Lunch Set ($5.99) - There is nothing authentic about HK style cafe's curry.. it is more like a yellowish coloured curry look alike gravy with dark chicken meat and potato flowing inside - Huge portions of rice that will make any rice loving guys or growing teens happy D & R Wing's Restaurant is always crowded!! Food at their price points were also OK, the meals are good value. Everyone has Borsch soup to start, pretty standard and no problems here. The sauces were all average. Pork chop and chicken steak were good, both were well cooked and tender. The toppings on the Baked Seafood Rice were a bit sparse. Venue can be described as blend and simple? But this place isn't about venues or decor. Food wise, it is above average in terms of quality. They do make their food fast. So I ordered the baked fish casserole with cream sauce. It tastes just okay, more on the blend side? The quantity of fish fillets is pretty good. Just the pasta wasn't al dente (yeah, I've been spoiled by real Italian food). Service wise, the staff are on the ball. Got good attitude. So overall, not bad in terms of experience. Their price point is not too bad, and has all sorts of daily specials- True Breakfast special - only during breakfast hours, All Day Breakfast, Lunch Special (which is served all day), Tea Time Specials (NOT served all day), Sizzling Plate, Dinner, Noodle, Single Item Sandwich, Double Decker Sandwich... and then their regular menu items if those specials don't tickle your fancy. I've eaten at this restaurant (probably at least 100 times, no joke!) since my childhood in good old Bamburgh Circle and is my #1 favourite HK style restaurant. From the menu to the decor, it truly is a restaurant you could find in Hong Kong and it's no surprise it's been around for so long. It is simple and authentic. The owner and some of their staff even recognize me from all the times I've sat down to eat or ordered take out. Over the last few years, they've made more of an effort to include English in their menu for those who cannot read Chinese and it's much appreciated! They have great breakfast options but I love their weekly specials the most (there are about 10 items that rotate from week to week). Each special comes with soup and tea/coffee. I also love their Afternoon Tea as well - their Chicken Wings and Fries are addicting and I would normally pair that with a Cold Iced Tea. I've had their Hot Plate Sets as well and the steak is on another level. They used to serve it with corn and broccoli but recently they've replaced it with tomatoes and potato wedges which I don't mind! Their gravy sauce is to die for! It's decent quality, decent portions and the typical type of service you would expect at a HK style cafe. Every time I come here, I either get the chicken stewed noodles ($6.50) or the All day breakfast #3 that comes with eggs, toast and the beef satay udon ($6.25). I honestly don't really know why I like the chicken stewed noodles, but the taste is great, portion is big and the chicken is tender. I've been coming here for many years and I mainly come here for late night food. The staff all know me pretty well. It's another HK style cafe, and they have a lot of combos and meals that you can order that come with a drink. They always have daily specials as well, that come with a soup and drink. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and their prices are very cheap and affordable. Spacious restaurant with plenty of seating for customers. Staff are knowledgeable as they have been working there for years. It's been the same staff for at least 8 years that I know of. The food also comes out really quick, so if you're looking for a quick and cheap place to eat, this restaurant is the place to be. read more

This time was not so great. Yeah they gave us our cream soup for free (soup is 3.50 - overpriced) but this is an anomaly at HK style cafes. Meals usually come with soup anyway. The one star is for when the waitress very rudely and loudly tapped the tray with our money on it and told us to tip more, because they had given us the soup for free... which honestly we were not even aware of until she mentioned it. It would have been fine if not for the last 30 seconds we were there. I don't expect stellar service from Asian places, especially HK style cafes. Didn't even care when she didn't even look at us or talk to us when she took our order. Or when she questioned why we we were only getting two meals for three people. I remember the days when D&R Wing's used to be in the Buttonfield Plaza, the same place as where Hai Tang Cafe is now. Those were the glory days of this place, but several years ago they moved to the Bamburgh plaza and I haven't visited here until a few days ago. Decorations were...well there isn't much, it's a HK style cafe focusing on bang for your buck. It's a family restaurant, take it or leave it. What I like about this place is that they have all day breakfast. I ordered a breakfast meal for my dinner...love it! For $5.50 you can get two eggs, bread, and a decent size of satay beef instant noodle (as an example). The quality is on par for the price you pay, hence the 4 stars. If you're a frugal person looking for something to fill you up...this is definitely the place for you. This and Yogi Noodle are both excellent choices in the plaza to be honest. read more

The Bamburgh Gardens plaza has been here forever and one of its longtime residents is D & R Wings's. It is primarily a HK cafe. The menu isn't as extensive as at some other cafes and some staple type items are only available at certain times during the day. I really had a craving for a french toast but that was only available during afternoon tea. Instead I wound up getting the baked pork chop that comes with a soup and choice of drink. There were three soups to choose from including cream, borscht, or the Chinese style soup. The Chinese style soup that day was a pork bone with chayote. It was a pretty big bowl of soup. In fact it was served in one of those Corelle/Corning ware bowls that you may have at home vs a soup cup, for some reference. The mains followed not much later. The beef noodles were a little greasy and they had a lot of wok flavour but I thought it needed more salt. It had a decent amount of meat in it but it was a little dry. As for the baked pork chop, that came with two huge pieces of pork chop on top slathered in sauce. There was no cheese for you dairy lovers out there. Only one of the pieces had a bone running down the length of it so it was a lot of meat. After removing the top piece of pork, I saw that they did add some of the frozen veggie mix to it (carrots, corn, PEAS ugh) but luckily it was minimal amount. I was discussing this with my date but the rice kind of appeared to be fried because there were bits of egg in it but it didn't taste or look like fried rice. I think that might add a little more to the dish. The best part of the meal was probably the milk tea which we had after the meal. Last night my wife and I were feeling a bit frugal so after glancing around where to eat in Bamburgh Plaza we ended back up at D&R. I haven't really been going back there for a while because there's just too much food at home now. They have repainted the place and the waitresses are in uniform now. Looks a bit cleaner now. Anyway, we decided to get the dinner special. I like coming here for dinners and figuring out what the dinner special of the night is, sometimes I like it sometimes I don't. However, last night wasn't too bad. It was a sirloin steak on a sizzling platter with corn, broccoli and gravy. It comes with potato salad and house soup. The house soup was a bit bland today, most likely because it was a new batch. Maybe they thought I liked it, but I don't really like chicken feet. The potato salad was okay. However, the quality of the steak is pretty good for the price we paid overall. The steak was juicy and fragrant. Easy to cut and the gravy enhanced the flavor overall. Also this is the only place that make cold honey lemon tea (tong ling ma cha) with no extra charge (aside from the cold drink upgrade) With the cold drink upgrade and a pop for my wife we paid $20.50 inclusive of taxes and tip. read more

I mean look at the place, it's just a small family restaurant with questionable coloured sauces and loud waitresses. My parents are the regulars of this establishment. Been coming here since I was a kid and things here don't change that much. The restaurant has renovated nicely but I'm too chicken to go into the washroom cause I know it's gross. If someone wants to go in and tell me it's fine, be my guest. Pretty cheap with their all day breakfast and dinner specials. Their specials usually come with soup and salad too. Since I only come here with my parents, who know basically everyone that works here (waitresses and cooks), service here is good. It's not hard to befriend them if you come here regularly, so talk it up~ They tend to accommodate to my mother's very bland and healthy palate so if you have dietary restrictions, don't hesitate! She's changed baked fish rice to boiled fish with rice...what. Parking is shared with other restaurants but it shouldn't be a problem. No free wifi unfortunately. The service here is below average. They put the menus down with an attitude, and proceeded to collect my utensils before I was done eating. The food is comparable to HK's fast food Chinese food. The food was lukewarm, and the chicken was so deep fried I couldn't tell if I was eating a rock or chicken. The worst part about all of this, is when we asked for the bill, she had the audacity to raise her voice and complain about the lack of tips, despite us not receiving any. If you're reading to determine if this place is worth going to, I suggest Pho 88 or JeonJuHyang next door instead. read more
